live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> getting derailed cars back on track. this is a picture from sky 7 h.d. over sunol. this morning, new information about how the crowded commuter train left the rails. you can see it is still there this morning. >> i am kristen sze. >> i am reggie aqui. >> we will talk about the cause and romney indications but, first, what emergency responders heard. >> listen to the radio conversations as 9-1-1 calls started pouring in to the fire dispatch. they show a desperate effort. >> this is going to be difficult to access.

>> i need additional three ambulances at the location. >> they were dealing with 214 people on board the train. at one point you can hear emergency crews asking for more manpower. here is the latest on the number of people injured. two of the nine hurt are still in the hospital. they are expected to survive. a portion of the train as you can see is still lying on its side this morning. it hit a tree on the tracks at 7:30 last night. a spokesperson said that in the 17 years they have been running, this is a first. >> if you are not familiar with where the crash scene is, it is near sunol off niles canyon carry commuters from stockton and san jose and stops in between in santa clara, fremont, pleasanton, livermore, tracy. >> union pacific is on the scene with heavy equipment to put the lead ace car out of alameda creek but it is a tricky task to

pull off. this is a picture from sky 76 -- sky 7 of the effort. amy hollyfield is near the crash scene and talks with investigators. amy, we will start with you. >> reggie they are saying a mudslide caused this. they hope to is it cleared out of here by 4:00 this afternoon, an ambitious clear. they have a ways to go. they have cleared mud off the tracks. they have cranes in place to pull the car that is lying on its side in alameda creek out of here. first responders are also still thinking about the intense rescue effort that happened here. getting a look at the derailed train in the light of day was a shock for workers as they arrived this morning. many say they felt like they were looking at the set of a movie. >> unbelievable. you think the power of a train that is pushing the cars when they derail, and the train does not stop like a car, it keeps

going. that shift with the engine pushing the cars must have been terrifying. >> workers came up with a clean up plan. by daybreak they cleared three of the cars but moving the two derailed cars would pose quite a challenge. >> one car is down in the creek and they plan to bring it down parallel and bring it back up and try to rerail it. to see if they can rerail it and get it out of the tracks or on the tracks. >> the ace rain in san jose to stockton derailed at 7:30 in sunol along niles canyon road. nine people were hurt. four suffered serious injuries. everyone is expected to survive. at this point, investigators say it looks like recent rains triggered the cause of the derailment. >> there was a mudslide this caused the derailment. i don't know at what point the

exact hit the rail car or which rail car was hit first but there was a mudslide that had a tree, a big tree and it may have been the cause of the derailment. >> look at the current in the creek. first responders say it would be tough for a good swimmer and they cannot imagine trying to swim this in the dark with their work clothes on. there is great relief here that regulation cue crews got them out of the train window and up the side of the train so they could avoid this cold, fast-moving water. thank you, amy. this is niles canyon where the train derailed. well look in and you can see the front train car, right there in the water, right next to niles canyon road which is, of course, closed right now as a result. our coverage conditions with our reporter, live at the ace train station in pleasanton. janet, a big impact on both

train and scar commuters. >> yes. it certainly was. sometimes a day after the first day dealing with of a mat is the toughest. but pest ace riders knew of the closure and knew there was no train service. those that did not were getted by signs. like this. no sound of trains coming and going at the ace train, where many people board to head to san jose for work but michael this morning saw this message board alerting him that there would be no service. signs were also posted on the ticket box. >> i will have a long drive home tonight. i have traffic coming back here and it is pretty bad. >> drivers pulled and the packing lot surprised to see no one here but an ace employee and they turned around and hit the road, the morning land in a scramble. >> it is something, one more thing to worry about. >> she came prepared with a plan. >> we got a t at -- text at 9:00

be ready across the not bay for a few sprinkles and a light shower with a better chance this evening. i will track it on the storm impact scale next. >> new this morning, a san francisco official has declared a safety emergency on homelessness. the supervisor said that the city has not done enough to help the more than 7,000 people who are live on the streets. just last week, workers sweep the area neither division street to get homeless people off the streets. he is asking the colleagues to allow the city to build more centers to help the homeless. >> new you may have noticed a special countdown clock in the corner of the screened to. that is the countdown to the total solar eclipse happening later on today. our reporter, tiffany wilson, is at the exploritorium where all of the action is. >> good morning, kristen. you can see the path, where the evening cheeps is going to be the best view.

>> benicia. san ramon. san mateo. and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> a school board in president plume could be heated over this, parents and distribute officials squaring off on school-issued ipads. some say filters do not adequately block inproposes content. the district contends they are doing their best but admitted this is in way to block everything. they are urgeing parents to step up their own monitoring. the district was able to provide all 7,500 students with the ipads. >> we are learning more of the study facebook is funding to ease traffic on dumbarton bridge, located off the bridge if menlo park, will focus on whether to re-purpose the old rail bridge south of the dumbarton itself to be used by buses. facebook hopes a.c. transit and the san mateo and alameda transportation agencies will use the information to help with congestion.

disappear. reason why? the the air is so dry. this is a warm front, the lead edge of the warm moist air that will bring us significant rain over the next several days. there are sprinkles that are possible across the north bay while the rest of us just going to see increasing clouds today and temperatures are a little bit warmer than yesterday, and keep the umbrella happy, seven days, seven chances of rain starting with the north bay today and some of the systems will reap the moderate level open our storm-impact scale. temperatures today are upper 50s to low 60s in most areas and places like santa cruz and slow and oakland could reach the mid-60s. here is a look at our storm-impact scale with a ice look at what is going to happen with the storms from "1" light to "5" severe. the one tonight is going to affect the commute tomorrow more than anything else and leave less than half an inch of rain. i will show you the totals in consider neighborhood in a second. you can see the pert chance of light rain moving in at 9:00 and we will have drizzle with
