into the possibility of using sensors to detect when debris falls on their cracks. today, the trains are up running again. amy is live for us. how did it go today. >> hi, reggie, it was smooth. they sloughed down to 10 miles per hour at the crash site because they wanted to be careful because of the heavy equipment and inspectors in the area, but that gave riders good chance to take a nice, long look. train passengers couldn't help but look out the window this morning at the site of the train derail m. some felt a little anxious for their own safety. all said they had the victims on their minds. >> just trying to imagine how those people felt. it was dark out there at the time the train derailed. >> must have been scary. >> the drop was down an

embankment and down into the creek where two of the cars landed. nine people were hurt in the crash. all survived. crews cleared the wreckage by late yesterday afternoon and service was restored today. >> happy to have her back, yeah. so, pretty much my only mode of transportation. >> ridership was down today by about 200 people. officials don't know if that's because people were nervous about taking the train or just didn't know that trains were running again. those who did decide to ride say this still beats driving. >> no, i don't want to drive. i drove yesterday. traffic was really, really bad. >> they're expecting the three ca cars on the train to be back this service by monday and the others, it could be a few weeks. >> thanks.

a new round of a stinky mess on the peninsula this morning. neighbors already frustrated with raw sewage seeping into the home this is week are dealing with it affect. janet, what happened this time? >> well, the suer main got backed up and flooded jason behind us. his house was o tthe only one t get frooded, but crews are out here working to fix the suer main. they have hired a private contractor to replace it. it's about 40 feet long. neighbors say the situation is far from over. >> it's been a nightmare after nightmare. >> jason chen has been up all night. he was staying at a hotel with his family when he was told his house flooded again. he arrived to find a toilet overflowing. he hired crews to set up dehumidifiers but the stench was

overpouring. the flooding first started on monday when we brought you to peter's home. raw soounlg could be seen spewing from the vents. >> ten rooms. >> five homeowners have been affected. they tell us it's so bad, their homes have to be demolished. they say it appears a private contractor left the cap off a suer line that connects to the main. chen she has this photo shows some of the rocks found clogging that line. neighbors don't know how long it will take before the mess is cleared up. >> just imagine from one hotel that they said you could stay, we paid for you, then said, no, we can't pay, then move in another cheaper hotel. >> the city says prior to this incident, the suer main had no issues whatsoever. the city tells me this morning, it's too soon to say who said to blame and who and how much will

be compensateded for the neighbors affected by this situation. >> thank you. police in san jose state university have arrested a man they say went into a library restroom and attacked a woman around 9:00 last night on the educational background floor of the dr. martin luther king library. the woman chased him out of the bathroom. police arrested this man. the university is going to release more on this incident later today. the system is arranging tra security. the five day faculty walkout would impact all 23 csu campuses. a meeting in long beach today, the two sides remain at odds over salaries. right now, they are $70 million apart. faculty members want a 5% increase, the university is offering 2%. if not contract agreement is

reached, union members say they'll strike starting april 13th. and happening now, this is a live look at the reagan library in semi valley where a motorcade carrying nancy reagan has arrived just momenting ago from the funeral home home in san a ta monica. in a few moments, a prooif ceremony will begin. the public visitation starts at 1:00 this afternoon and will continue on thursday. nancy reagan died on sunday from congestive heart failure. she was 94. she's going to be lying in repose there. her funeral is on friday morning and it's closed to the public. to follow what goes on inside california's high court will do it online. the state supreme court will begin streaming all arguments starting in may. a spokesman says they're fighting the live stream. san francisco arguments first. los angeles segs will come later. the state's top judicial officer

says it's part of an effort to retain diversity. parents and students of st. mary's school are angry this morning. after they announced they were suspended school operations. >> they have raised over $15 million. >> an angry crowd let their views be heard last night at the cathedral. the archdiocese says the enrollment in dropping. the cultural program, preschool and language school will continue to operate. the parish says it will help place families at new schools. two baltimore city school police officers are charged with second degree assault are now out on bail. cell phone video shows one of them slapping and kicking a teen while a second officer stands by. according to court documents, the officer seen hitting the teen told a colleague he needed

pictures coming out of seattle are stunning. we want ed to give you a closer look. debris and def strags that stretches for blocks. alyssa harrington has pictures. >> may day, may day. i need a full response. to 213 north 85th street. i have firefighters missing. >> seattle firefighters can be heard radioing for help. they were investigating a natural gas leak at a mini mart when it exploded. the massive blast levelled builds and sent nine firefighters to the hospital. these ariel shots show what's left. not much but a pile of debris.

the blast was captured on surveillance video. it happened about 1:45 this morning north of downtown. a spokesman for utility companies claimed they were not able to plug the leak because tracking down the source can take time. >> it's a dangerous job. a difficult job and very often, usually called in and you have the time. their equipment is sensitive. it will have to narrow in and find the leak source. >> workers will now investigate whether there was a problem with gas service to the building or something else inside. amazingly, no one has been reported missing or killed. >> a lot of the firefighters were released with just minor injuries and that is a miracle. bernie sanders is is bringing a lot of momentum to tonight's debate in miami. he scored an upset overhillary clinton in the michigan primary. >> that would astonish even the

most veteran of political reporters. he was widely expected to lose. some thought by a lot. on the republican side, donald trump won three primaries in michigan, hawaii and mississippi. the next big primaries happen on tuesday. voters in delegate rich ohio and florida are going to take to the polls. this morning, you're hearing reaction from paul mccartney and ringo star following the death of george martin. he is considered to be the fifth beatle. he produced most of their albums. starr broke the news of his death on twirt last night and tweeted this photo of the band with martin, thanking fans for their support. he tweeted, the room has lost a truly great man. george martin was 90 years old. >> don't put away the rain jacket. mike is ahead with your forecast. also, noise complaints on the peninsula.

this is abc 7 news. san matteo county is now officially set iting the noise from planes fly in and out of the san carlos airport. neighbors in east palo alto say they're being impacted. noise complaints about general input have increased significantly. next month, staff will present possible solutions to the board of supervisors. >> michael is reminding us it's march. he is going to anchor live

rs opening up a little bitful we're putting the umbrella t away for sunglasses for now. you can see the radar returns in the hills and mountains on other side of the san the clara valley. right up the peninsula and into the north bay. that's going to be the peninsula, has the best chance of drizzle in the pockets of light rain throughout the afternoon. in fact, you can see with the golden gate camera, it's kind of socked in with rain right now. moderate to heavy rain tomorrow through friday and flooding likely and a few trees may fall. here's our abc 7 storm impact scale. it's almost over. it's going to be at least moderate, especially across the north bay where we'll have heavy rain and flooding concerns. here we are at 5:00 tomorrow morning. you can see yellows, oranges, even reds across the northwest part of the county. moderate to heavy rain falling. by 1:00 and then it starts to

dry up a little bit and shift back to the north during the evening and overnight hours, then friday morning is when the cold front will push through and sweep through by mid afternoon. if we're lucky, we'll see clearing. because wer ging to have so much rain falling across the north bay, nearly 3 inches in santa rosa. nearly an inch in concord. about three quarters of an inch in san jose, so there's going to be a wide des crepesy. that is the latest forecast for the russian river. you're with us morning, we were look at a crest of 32 feet, now, at 10:00, saturday morning, we're at 31.6. still means there's going to be spillover in low lying areas around the russian river and could still be in harm's way, but as overall widespread flood, hopefully, that's starting to taper, so, thursday and friday,
