welcome back. welcome back. an update to a story we brought you earlier this week. the first uterus transplant in the u.s. has failed. doctors at the cleveland clinic were forced to remove the uterus after the 26-year-old patient known as lindsey developed complications. earlier this week she spoke how she prayed to god for a chance to be pregnant. yesterday she thanked her doctors, saying they acted quickly to ensure her health and safety. >> we're glad she's okay. that's the big thing. a number of people made sick by a bacterial outbreak in wisconsin has grown to 48. investigators from the cdc have not been able to find the source of the blood infection that's left 15 dead. a variety of potential sources have been tested including health care products, water sources, even food. most of those who have gotten sick were elderly patients with underlying health issues. we're going to turn now to a big health alert when what looks like the flu could actually be a sign of something even more serious. >> like a heart attack.

for one woman, recognizing the difference likely saved her life. abc's juju chang has the story. >> reporter: as a hard charging prosecutor, sue palmer has seen her share of tragedy but nothing could have prepared her for the near tragedy that almost took her life. >> i just kind of felt funny and i laid there for a minute and thought, well, that's weird. and after about a minute, i knew that i was going to be sick. >> reporter: assuming it was a 4-hour virus, she wanted to crawl back into bed, but her husband tim, also an attorney, objected. >> i thought, you know, this could be more and looked at the -- grabbed up my tablet and looked at it and googled heart attack symptoms in women. >> reporter: tim's father had died of a heart attack, and his wife, just 46 at the time, was a healthy nonsmoker who wasn't feeling any of the classic telltale signs of a cardiac event. >> he said, i think we should get to the er. and i said, well, why? >> reporter: tim wasn't ready to take the chance. he whisked her to the er. once there an ekg revealed a

this was a story about my own children. >> i like their choice in rides. glad they're okay. that's all i have to say. youth football league, pop warner, is settling its first ever concussion-related lawsuit. >> the mother of a former player blames the sport for her son's suicide years later. abc's linsey davis has the latest on the case. >> reporter: the nfl is known for its big hits on the gridiron which can result in big injuries. it's no longer the nfl being affected. now the youth football organization, pop warner, just settled its first ever concussion-related lawsuit. pop warner is the largest youth football organization in the united states. more than 250,000 kids play each year. 25-year-old joseph chernach at 11 years old played four years with pop warner. then ten years later committed suicide and was later diagnosed with the brain disease caused by head trauma, chronic traumatic encephalopathy or cte.

>> mrs. reagan was a woman of incredible strength and grace. >> reporter: some vips like house speaker paul ryan got a few private moments with her casket. now the public is getting its chance. the library expecting tens of thousands of people. lauren lyster, abc news, simi valley, california. there are questions this morning how a man wanted for attempted murder in idaho was able to board a plane in washington, d.c. kyle odom appeared in a washington courtroom yesterday after he was arrested for throwing items onto the white house lawn. he's also accused of shooting an idaho pastor sunday outside his church. the tsa says it does not screen passengers for outstanding criminal warrants unless notified. the kansas factory where a shooting left four dead begins operations again today. employees returned yesterday to excel industries under increased scrutiny. the factory had been closed since february 25th, when a worker open fire, killing three of his fellow employees and then killed by police. seattle fire investigators say an explosion that leveled a

building was accidental. clean-up is under way after the powerful early morning blast. it housed two cafes and a grocery store but as many as three dozen other businesses were damaged. more now from abc's neal karlinksky. >> reporter: the blast was so powerful, a nearby business's surveillance camera captured the shock wave. immediately, seattle firefighters, who were already here checking on reports of a gas leak, were down. >> may day, may day, may day. battalion 6, i need a full response. i have firefighters missing. >> reporter: nine firefighters were caught in the blast at this local market. >> we've got two buildings that have been heavily damaged. >> reporter: the building, decimated by the powerful explosion. and surrounding businesses heavily damaged. >> at that moment, i was thrown on the ground and there was broken glass. >> reporter: again and again, we've seen the result. a gas leak, followed by a powerful explosion. like this house in new jersey. and firefighters, often the first ones on scene, even before gas lines can be safely secured,

risking their lives. >> the firefighters had all of their personal protective equipment on, otherwise the injuries would have been more significant. >> reporter: the blast zone is massive. you can still see parts of the building scattered up in the trees there. amazingly, those nine firefighters are out of the hospital with only minor injuries. neal karlinksky, abc news, seattle. so the city of flint, michigan, will stop sending out water bills until they can straighten out the billing. residents have been paying for water they can't drink for two years. the state legislature authorized $30 million to assist them with their bills. the average customer will get a credit of about $600. there's a lead scare in new jersey's largest school district. water is shut off in 30 school buildings in newark after tests showed high lead levels. investigators said they believe the contamination poses no serious health risks. no lead has been found in the drinking supply.

screaming just before midnight. the mexican national accused of killing five men in kansas and missouri is being held in a missouri jail overnight. he appeared in court yesterday while officials decide where he will be tried first. but a mistake by immigration officials may be to blame for allowing him to remain in the u.s. more now from abc's alex perez. >> reporter: pablo serrano vitorino, behind bars. investigators revealing the mexican national suspected in a murder spree that left five dead wasn't even supposed to be in the country. authorities believe the suspect, an undocumented immigrant, gunned down his neighbor and three other men monday night in kansas city, kansas. the suspect then fleeing, driving more than 170 miles to montgomery county, missouri. by tuesday, his dodge ram pickup found abandoned. 20 minutes later, another man shot dead at his home five miles away. choppers, canine units scouring the area until the suspect is finally cornered in a muddy

ditch. >> confirming subject in custody. >> reporter: serrano vitorino was deported to his native mexico in 2004, but re-entered the country undetected. after a traffic violation and an arrest for domestic assault last year, i.c.e. sought to have him detained. but local officials had already released him. >> something needs to be corrected so that the system works properly. >> reporter: the suspect has been arraigned here in missouri on murder charges and still faces charges in kansas. the big question, a possible motive remapes a mystery. alex perez, abc news, montgomery city, missouri. there are flash flood watches from south texas to central illinois. nearly a foot of rain has fallen in some parts of the region with more on the way. a state of emergency declared for 16 parishes in louisiana where the national guard is helping rescue residents from rising floodwaters. the rain is expected to continue through friday. all signs pointing to a

welcome back. welcome back. an update to a story we brought you earlier this week. the first uterus transplant in the u.s. has failed. doctors at the cleveland clinic were forced to remove the uterus after the 26-year-old patient known as lindsey developed complications. earlier this week she spoke how she prayed to god for a chance to be pregnant. yesterday she thanked her doctors, saying they acted quickly to ensure her health and safety. >> we're glad she's okay. that's the big thing. a number of people made sick by a bacterial outbreak in wisconsin has grown to 48. investigators from the cdc have not been able to find the source of the blood infection that's left 15 dead. a variety of potential sources have been tested including health care products, water sources, even food. most of those who have gotten sick were elderly patients with underlying health issues. we're going to turn now to a big health alert when what looks like the flu could actually be a sign of something even more serious. >> like a heart attack.

for one woman, recognizing the difference likely saved her life. abc's juju chang has the story. >> reporter: as a hard charging prosecutor, sue palmer has seen her share of tragedy but nothing could have prepared her for the near tragedy that almost took her life. >> i just kind of felt funny and i laid there for a minute and thought, well, that's weird. and after about a minute, i knew that i was going to be sick. >> reporter: assuming it was a 4-hour virus, she wanted to crawl back into bed, but her husband tim, also an attorney, objected. >> i thought, you know, this could be more and looked at the -- grabbed up my tablet and looked at it and googled heart attack symptoms in women. >> reporter: tim's father had died of a heart attack, and his wife, just 46 at the time, was a healthy nonsmoker who wasn't feeling any of the classic telltale signs of a cardiac event. >> he said, i think we should get to the er. and i said, well, why? >> reporter: tim wasn't ready to take the chance. he whisked her to the er.
