today starting at 2:00 p.m. eastern time. and in their final meeting on the court, kobe bryant seriously faked out lebron james last night. early in the cavs/lakers game. james had the last laugh though. cleveland won the game by 18 points. bryant is retiring at the end of this season. those are some of our top stories on this friday, march 11th. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning, everyone. we're going to get started this half hour with that historic and deadly flooding in the south. >> ten states already under flood watches and warnings. the hardest hit, louisiana, where the national guard has rescued hundreds of stranded victims. abc's phillip mena is in the flood zone. >> reporter: the never-ending rain sending a warning -- get out while you can. over a foot and a half of rain in louisiana already. many roads, even interstates, overtaken by floodwaters. fish swimming in the streets. subdivisions blocked off.

the levee is already overflowing in this bossier city subdivision. officials worry if it breaks, it could be catastrophic. more than 3,000 families here under mandatory evacuations. sarah and her father jim taking her 5-year-old son tucker to safety. he has special needs. >> you have to have access to an ambulance. and they can't get an ambulance back there. >> reporter: the fire chief stacy madden says he's never seen anything like this. >> if the water comes up, you lose power and you're in the dark and your house is wet, you'd rather be somewhere else. >> reporter: the national guard here, too, using trucks that can drive in high water, rescuing nearly 400 people in the last 24 hours. a warning, flash floods can swamp your car in seconds. just 18 inches of water is enough to lift an suv. of the three people who have died, two were in their vehicles. the flooding stretches for hundreds of miles from texas to arkansas and beyond. this is far from over.

they're expecting about another foot of rain in the coming days. and officials expect the flooding to continue into next week. phillip mena, abc news, bossier city, louisiana. >> it's going to be a long clean-up effort there as you can tell. let's take a look at today's forecast. as phillip mentioned, heavy rain again today in texas and the gulf coast. that pineapple express, that storm system, is hitting the southwest with flooding, downpours and up to 5 feet of mountain snow, spring-like in the midwest. >> 70s and 80s in atlanta and miami. 60s in l.a. and minneapolis. 50s in great falls and boston. now to politics and the republicans keeping it civil as they squared off in miami. in a stark departure from earlier debates, all four candidates refrained this mud-slinging and talking over one another. instead they delved into issues like immigration and trade, but trump doubled down on an earlier comment that islam hates us. sparking a heated exchange with marco rubio.

this vacancy will not be filled this year. we will look forward to the american people deciding who they want to make this appointment through their own votes. >> but according to an abc news/washington post poll, 63 prsz of americans don't think the selection process should be stalled. president obama says he will do his job and he expects that the senate will do it as outlined in the constitution. police outside of pittsburgh are searching for two men who open fire at a backyard cookout, killing six people, including a woman who was eight months pregnant. three of the victims were siblings and two others were cousins. it happened in the largely black suburb of wilkinsburg, known for drug trafficking and gun violence. authorities called the attack planned and calculated and announced a $20,000 reward. the owner of a small aviation insurance company in georgia is now requiring workers to carry guns. lance toland has told his 12

employees to get conceal carry permits and training. then gives them a revolver called the judge. toland says the guns are meant to keep the workplace safe. he also says that he's had 100 100% participation. lawmakers in california have voted to raise the legal age for buying and using toe back co-and e-cigarettes from 18 to 21. the higher age limit won despite intense lobbying from the tobacco industry and opposed by republicans who said that the state should butt out of the people's personal health decisions. that legislation needs the governor's signature before it can become law. a major recall under way involving very popular frozen foods. nestle is pulling nearly 3 million boxes of digiorno pizza, stouffer's lasagna and lean cuisine meals after customers can reported finding glass in their food. the company says the glass may have come from the spinach packaging used in those foods. we have a quick reminder to

but first, former first lady nancy reagan will be laid to rest today right next to her husband at his presidential library. thousands of well-wishers paying respects to mrs. reagan over the last two days. relatives of every president dating back to jfk will attend her funeral today. first lady michelle obama will be there as well, along with hillary clinton and george w. bush and laura bush. abc news will have live coverage of the funeral starting at 2:00 p.m. eastern time. ten states in the south are under flood watches and warnings as almost 2 feet of rain has triggered historic flooding. at least four people have been killed by floodwaters stretching hundreds of miles overtaking streets, highways and entire neighborhoods. more than 3,000 families in one city outside of shreveport alone are under a mandatory evacuation. >> be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice because when the water starts rising, things can get pretty terrible pretty quickly. >> and it's not over yet. louisiana and mississippi could

see another 10 inches of rain through saturday. an eight-day manhunt for a dangerous murder suspect has ended in dramatic fashion. rafael mccloud was shot and killed in mississippi after he broke into a home and held a family hostage. abc's linsey davis reports on the terrifying hours inside of that home. >> reporter: relief in a mississippi community after police say this man, a fugitive, was killed during a terrifying home invasion. police say rafeal mccloud, who faced rape and murder charges, broke out of jail last week after holding an officer at knife point. >> we consider this man dangerous. he was armed with a homemade shank when he left the jail. >> reporter: his escape sparked an intense manhunt. less than a mile away from that jail, police say mccloud forced his way into a home, taking a man, his wife, and their 5-year-old child, held hostage for hours. >> 30-year-old male stabbed in the back is in the bathtub. >> we believe there was a struggle ensued inside the home with the homeowner. >> reporter: that man was tied up and then stabbed in the shoulder.

his wife was able to grab a gun. once her husband could get free, he shot and killed mccloud. mccloud was pronounced dead at the scene. while the husband was hospitalized, police say his injuries were not life-threatening and his wife and son were not harmed. linsey davis, abc news, new york. details have just been released about a rather unique drug bust at new york's jfk airport earlier this month. officers noticed inconsistencies when they x-rayed seed cakes being carried by a man from mexico. those inconsistencies turned out to be packages of cocaine. oh, so that's seed cakes. i was wondering what it was. two pounds of it in total. the street value of the coke was about $33,000. the man who was carrying them was arrested on the spot. i never had seed cakes before. >> i wouldn't want that type. >> you wouldn't want that. another target for drug smugglers. this is surprising. students on spring break unknowingly being turned into blind mules. smugglers target americans
