>> it's saturday, march 12th. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. each chris nguyen. we're off to a mild start for our day today. here's meteorologist lisa argen with where we found the storm impact scale. hi, lisa. >> good morning. temperatures are cooler this morning. the winds will pick up, as well. we are looking at rain around our sweep. mourn st. helena from calistoga, southward toward highway 1301. from novato to san rafael and eastward to hercules. the richmond san rafael bridge, maybe a few showers north of that over over the bay. and the livermore valley looking

at a few showers spotted in the higher elevation. here's maine band of rain. it's holding together near the north coast. as it continues to sink to the south we will see the bay area impact bid a is 1 on the storm impact scale. just a quarter inch but upwards of a half-inch elsewhere. the north bay we still have a nash flood watch until 5:00. we've had a lot of rain, anywhere from 1 to 2 inches, even 3 inches in spots. additional rainfall may cause the streams and rivers to rise quickly. we will time out the rain and talk about the stronger system arriving tomorrow. chris. >> we are training breaking news out of oakland. police and the highway patrol are investigating a freeway shooting involving a party bus. is is it happened around 2:30 this morning where the people get off of the bay bridge.

nearly all the windows on the driver's side of the bus were shot out by someone who drove by and opened fire. the bus driver pulled over and called for help. at least four people inside the bus were injured. some were taken to the hospital by ambulance. others drove themselves. at this time the extent of their injuries is unknown. the highway patrol is canvassing the freeway for shell casings and evidence. no arrests have been made and we will keep you updated with any new information throughout the morning. now to developing news in new york where a tugboat overturned on the hudson river about 25 miles north of midtown, manhattan. one person died, two others are missing. fire crews have been able to pull out two people from the water. the tugboat was holding ferry workers who are constructing the new bridge span in new york. now to developing news in san rose. police are investigating the a double shooting that left one person dead. it happened last night at a restaurant on tully road near quimby road in east san jose.

shot the victims just before the victims just before 11:00 p.m. the two men were taken to the hospital where one of them died. investigators were called to the seen earlier this morning. the shooter has not been located. police say they are working on a description of the gunman. now turning to the storms. an enormous tree slammed into an oakland hills home last night, damage the home so badly, ice now inhabitable. the tree is about six feet in diameter and tall. no one was home when it came crashing down. it ripped down powerlines as it fell, knocking out power. crews will work today to clean up the mess. there are also big problems in pacifica. take a look at this giant lee that fell on a house, taking down tower lines with it. >> crews were prepping the site for demolition. two large excavators were brought in to begin ripping down a building at 320 esplanade avenue.

>> >> they have to teardown the front of the building first and then deal with the back of the building with the long arm. >> from sky 7hd you see debris from 320 that tumbled down to the water below. wind and rain also caused major trouble for people of this pacifica home. a massive tree came crashing down on top of it. it also knocked down power to the whole neighborhood. >> >> i came home about 4:00 and the power was out. i left and i came back. they wouldn't even let us up the street for an hour. >> from sky 7hd we spotted new trouble spots along esplanade avenue. residents of the bluffs apartment told us off-camera the crane is part of a construction crew that's been on-side for the last few weeks trying to shore up the cliff with cement and massive steel rods. meanwhile back at 320 esplanade, a wind tunnel. the wind can get gusty out here

to 50 miles per hour. in fact, just last week they were clocked at 77 miles per hour. blew the roof off the southern portion of this building here and landed out in the street. >> he says weather could make the planned tear-down complicated. abc7 news. crews in napa county will keep a close eye on river and creek levels this weekend. this is hopper creek where homes are just a few feet away from the water. many waterways are swollen with more rainfall on the way. yesterday brought less rain than expected, so the national weather service cancelled a need -- a flood warning for the napa and russian rivers. but residents in the north bay are concerned about the potential for flooding this weekend. abc7 news reporter melanie woodrow shows us how people were preparing in forestville. >> they stopped out in guerneville to see how high russian river was getting. >> the yellow gate, when it gets up there, it's starting to make people nervous.

>> also in the north bay these guys decided to go wake boarding on the east side after the road closed. they plan to continue wake boarding all weekend long. the south bay was spared any major trouble last night but drivers had it contend with wet roads during the evening commute. new potholes seem to pop up, giving people another hazard to avoid. at usa touch-up auto body, they are working with about a dozen more cars than unusual. most live collisions. front bummers completely destroyed, impact bars, the back rear end smashed in. some frame damage. when i see it heavy, parring down with lots of rain i think i'm going to be busy, more accidents. >> we found a few locations in the south bay trees or branches came down but none caused damage.

>> tahoe could get more snow this weekend from 2 to 4 feet. this is showing the snowy roadways. right now chains are required on sections of both 50 and 80. the snow is expected through tomorrow with the dry week beginning on monday. pg&e is stocked and ready for the el nino season. here's a look at a warehouse where there are 14,000 parts from transformers to cables. there are in-house meters to track the storms, and they use. meter data to pinpoint the outages. you can use the free abc7 news app to track the weather powered by el nino and create push alerts to get breaking weather information. we have resources also to plan for the storms at our website. investigators hope dna from two human skeletons found in napa this week will help them identify who they are. they got a call wednesday about

a skull found in pope valley. they recovered enough bones for two whole bodies, but just one skull. if dna can't identify them, investigators will try to reconstruct a face using the skull. >> one of the grands marshals of this year's pride parade typically has several grand marshals. they are selected for being local heroes who have made significant contributions to the lbgtx community and the community at large. this year's pride parade is june 26th are >> one of the oldest and largest events celebrating irish culture take place today in san francisco. more than 100 colorful floats, irish dance groups and marching bands take part in this morning's 156th annual san francisco st. patrick's day parade. this is video from last year's celebration. the parade connection off at 11:30 on market street and ends

"7 on your side." >> a bay area lawmaker wants the public to have more say in how immigration agents operate in local sales. the assemblyman introduced the truth ability in oakland. it would require public hearings before police and sheriffs departments can participate in deportation programs. county supervisors would have to sign off on any agreements. the agreements between a law enforcement agency on one hand and i.c.e. on the other are being made privately in secret without public input. we think there should be public input. >> he said his bill to ensure that immigration authorities comply with the state law that limits deportation hold requests by local police departments. >> newly proposed legislation would require employers to give three paid days off owe parents an participate in school-related

fell up like it has. >> this view shows stevens creek reservoir is also close to capacity. however, other reservoirs aren't as fortunate. lexington is currently at 44%, and anderson, with which is the valley's largest reservoir, is 51%. overall never are at 56% of cassette as of friday afternoon. while water in the reservoirs is at least visible, ground water supplies levels are currently low. >> we don't know what will happen next year. this could be one decent year followed by several more dry years. >> officials with the water district say despite the rain, conservation efforts still need to be taken seriously. >> until we are fully recovered and our ground water levels and statewide reservoirs are back to normal. we should be still continue those good water conservation habits that we have adopted. >> back at uvas reservoirs, visitors take a moment to reflect. >> i took a few pictures. you don't get to see that very

often. i've lived here over 30 years and only get to see the creeks flowing this way when there's el nino type weather. >> officials say the water at uvas reservoir will continue to spill over throughout the weekend. >> as us see, eats really tough to see. >> that's the officer williams taking abc7 news on a ride through dangerous conditions along highway is 01 in south san francisco. most accidents happen in the rain because drivers don't slow down or keep a save driving distance. stand being water can also be a problem. >> if you start to feel yourself losing control, start to hydroplane, ease off the gas. don't hit your brakes. when you feel yourself regaining control, apply more gas and keep going. >> hitting the brakes in standing water may cause a car to spin out. also remember to check your wipers and headlights to make sure they are working properly. the wet weather obviously a good reminder for all of us to do those things.

good information. >> that's right. we are happy about the past storms, but as you know, el nino , they aren't all created equal. we had super dry february and flooding concerns this weekend. there's a flash flood watch for the coastal flew areas. storm impact scale indicate questioning have a 1 on the way today. it will be a quick burst of rain from a quarter inch in the east bay and south bay, half-inch in the rest of the bay area. with those streams running pretty quick, we could have some problems here with that additional rainfall. this is the weaker of the two storms. the stronger one comes in tomorrow. the live doppler 7hd shows the smattering of light shower activity in the north bay. anywhere from about calistoga,etna springs and southward towarded windsor highway 101. san rafael, mill valley, light showers across the bay into vallejo. highway 37 pretty wet for you, as well as the point and

hercules a few light showers. we've had a few very, very light areas in the livermore valley and the higher elevations. it's the cold front that will be sweeping southward across the bay area today. in advance of this some gusty southerly winds. but so far we are doing pretty good. march has been good to us. we are making up some lost time with napa anywhere -- about 20 inches of rain almost. probably later on today you have that for the season. giving you upwards of almost 90 inches for the season. a little less than that in oakland. 80 percent of normal with 13 inches of rain. 101% of normal. folks in san jose and livermore and concord would like more rain. a little more is on the way today, about you, of course, the past storms have focused in the north bay. the with untomorrow should bring more generous rainfall across the entire bay area. 48 today. right now in san jose we will have temperatures on the balmy side with southerly winds later on this afternoon. 44 morgan hill. 51 san francisco. and our sutro tower camera shows

the gray i sky and cloudy conditions in the city. 48 santa rosa, as well as fair field. 46 in livermore and the golden gate bridge. some dry pavement there. no problems right now. but we have two more storms this weekend. one today will be light. moderate tomorrow. dry and warmer next week with widespread 70-degree temperatures. southeast winds gusting ahead of the front. in san francisco you can see the color coding here from 25 to 30 miles an hour thought the day today. certainly it will be breezy. and thought the early morning hours the rain stays in the north bay. 11:00 it's a narrow band of rain inc. ising south by the afternoon into the east bay, and by 5:00 showers on the peninsula into oakland and emeryville. it's throughout the evening hours in the south bay, the santa cruz mountains, perhaps hayward and for you in fremont. we are looking at the stronger storm to arrive tomorrow, bringing periods of rain. anywhere from a half-inch to an inch of rain. we go through the morning hours with scattered showers. then by midday we have showers all around the bay.

trump blamed the protesters, saying they left him no choice but to cancel the rally. but these demonstrations are happening more often. >> reporter: the race for the white house continues. but rising tensions cause clashes and violence at donald trump's rally in chicago. while fights were erupting inside the arena, protests outside caused the campaign event to be cancelled. earlier in st. louis trump was interrupted several times by protesters. >> our country has to toughen up, folks. we have to toughen up. these people are bringing us down. >> trump fired back at the growing number of people disrupting his rallies. >> go home to mommy. get them out. troublemaker! go home and get a job. >> the incidents are becoming more frequent and more of a concern.

and we will see very breezy conditions, as well. so still we are looking at a flash flood watch in the higher elevations and also around the valleys of the north bay, the coast. so marin and sonoma, additional rain fall could cause flooding here. we are hooking at the rain showers not only in the north bay but they are smattered about. and you see around middle up to some more organized showers. north of winds sore and also around the san pablo bay. more showers around vallejo, highway 37 and towards hercules, highway 4. scattered showers out toward the livermore valley. but this is the organized system that we are waiting for. it's the cold front and out ahead of it with he will sea some breezy winds. over the days how much rain did we get? we got enough to bring our season to date close to where it should be in mountain view, 94% of normal.

11 inches of rain has fallen since october 1st. santa rosa, that would mean over 28 inches of rain to bring it up to 95% of normal. with more expected, we should be right around average. although the march averages have been shattered. certainly in san francisco, well above 3 inches of rain. 48 mountain view and san jose. it's cooler for most. this is a view from mt. tam where it's cloudy. a few light scattered showers for you in the higher elevations and it's breezy, as well. windier and rainier throughout the day with two more storms this weekend. the weaker one today and the moderate one tomorrow. dry and warmer weather next week. so follow the color here open the wind profile. you will notice the passage of the cold front. so with the cold front we've got the gusty winds, up to 35 miles an hour along the coast. and by the evening hours it's in the east bay and the south bay. so it will be quite breezy today. and the rainfall accompanying the gusty winds.

so with the narrow band of rain it stays up in the north bay for the bulk of the morning. but by the afternoon it's engine ising south is into marin, into the east bay by the later average. and along the peninsula. it stays pretty much from san francisco south at about 7:00. and then we will look for things to quiet down before our next system heads our way tomorrow with this one a little bit stronger, anywhere from a half-inch to an inch of rain. and through 9:00 tomorrow morning we have scattered showers. by 11:00 they are just about anywhere and everywhere, and they fill in throughout the afternoon. periods of rain right through the day tomorrow. we will look for the rainfall totals from today into tomorrow to be heaviest in the santa cruz mountains and the north bay. about three quarters of an inch, a half inch in oakland and only about a quarter inch for you folks in san jose. but once the snow gets going midday, the winter storm warning will take us right on through monday. and that bring the snow measurement in feet once again. you see that right.
