coastal hills and valleys and the saturated soils and swollen creeks are running pretty fast. as we look outside, from our explore tore yum camera, it is wet. upper 40s to low 50s and this is the way it will play out throughout much of the day. we'll have scattered light rain showers but bulk of the heavier rain and front will be hung up into the north bay throughout much of the mid morning hours. gusty winds will accompany the system and just afternoon time we'll see more showers south and breezy south winds will track the rest of the day today. the stronger system tomorrow coming up. >> thanks, lisa. we're tracking developing news this morning out of oakland. police in the highway patrol are investigating a shooting on the freeway involving a party bus. it happened around 2:30 at the eastbound interstate 80 and 880 interchange where drivers get off the bay bridge. many windows were shot out by someone who drove by and opened fire. the bus driver pulled over at fifth and union in west oakland

and called for help. at least one person was injured. at this time the extent of that person's injuries is unknown. the highway patrol is canvassing the freeway for shell casings and evidence. no arrests have been made. we'll be sure to bring you more details as they become available. >> we also have developing news out of new york where a tug boat has overturn eed on the hudson river. about 25 miles north of midtown manhattan, one person has died. two others are missing and five crews have pulled two people from the water. the tug boat was holding ferry workers who are constructing the new bridge span in new york. >> developing news in san jose, police are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead. it happened last night at the bon miller restaurant on tully road in east san jose. police say the victims were shot just before 11:00 p.m. two men were taken to the hospital where one of them died.

investigators were called to the scene earlier this morning. and the shooter has not been located. police say they are working on a description of the gunmen. >> turning to our bay area storms, an enormous tree slammed into an oakland hills home last night damaging the home so badly it's now uninhabitable. trees are six feet in diameter and 80 feet tall. no one was home when it came crashing down just east of holy name university. it ripped down power lines as it fell, knocking out power to the neighborhood. crews will work today to clean up the mess. >> there were also big problems in pacifica, take a look at this giant tree that fell on a house taking down power lines with it. today demolition will begin on an apartment building sitting on a crumbling cliff. how crews are preparing and the new issues facing residents in this coastal community. >> crews were prepping this site for demolition, two large

excavators were brought in to begin ripping down. >> they have to tear the front of the building down first and deal with the back of the building with the long arm. >> you can see debris from 320 that tumbled down to the water below. wind and rain also caused major trouble for residents of this pacifica home. a massive tree came crashing on top of it and knocked out power to the whole neighborhood. >> i came home about 4:00 and the power was out. i left and came back. and they wouldn't even let us up the street for an hour. >> from sky 7 hd we also spotted new trouble spots along the avenue. residents of the bluffs apartment told us off camera the crane is part of a construction crew that has been on site for the last few weeks trying to shore up the cliff with cement and steel rods. back at 320, a wind tunnel, the winds can get gusty to 50 miles an hour. just last week they were clocked

at 77 miles an hour and blew the roof off the southern portion of this building here and landed out in the street. >> he says weather could make the planned tear down complicated. in pacifica, abc 7 news. crews in napa county will keep a close eye on creek and river levels. many waterways are swollen with more rainfall on the way. yesterday brought less rain than expected so the national weather service canceled a flood warning for the napa and russian rivers. 8:05 is our time. residents in the north bay continue to be concerned about the potential for flooding this weekend. abc news reporter emily woodrow shows how they are getting ready. >> reporter: stepped out to see just how high russian river was getting. >> that yellow gate when it gets up there, it's starting to make people nervous. >> reporter: when the river rises, their home floods. >> the creek cannot empty into

also in the north bay, these guys decide to go wake boarding on east side road in sonoma county after the road flooded and was closed. they told us they plan to continue wake boarding all weekend long. the south bay was spared major trouble last night although drivers did have to contend with wet roads during the commute. new potholes seemed to pop up giving people another hazard to avoid. over at uss touch-up auto body, employees are working overtime with a dozen more cars than usual. >> this has been mostly collisions front bumpers destroyed and back rear ends smashed in. some frame damage. when i say heavy pouring down with lots of rain, i do notice, it's going to be busy, more accidents. >> we found a few locations in the south bay where trees or branches had come down but none that caused any damage. you can use the free abc 7 news app to track the weather

conditions where you live and enable push alerts to receive breaking weather information. we also have resources to help you plan for the storms at abc 7 news.com/el nino. the time is 8:08. investigators hope dna found from two human skeletons found in napa this week will help them identify who they are. they got a call wednesday about a skull found at bucks canyon and snell valley road. enough bones for who whole bodies but one skull. if dna can't identify them, investigators will try to reconstruct a face using the skull. one of the grand marshalls of this year's san francisco pride parade is not just one person. the title of organizational grand marshall this year goes to the black lives matter movement. the pride parade typically has several ground marshalls and they are selected for being local heroes who have made significant contributions to the bay area lgbt community and this year's pride parade ajune 26th.

happening today, one of america's biggest celebrations of irish culture and heritage will take place in san francisco. the annual st. patrick's day parade and festival begins later this morning and abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington is there to give us a preview. how is it going out there? >> reporter: good morning, chris. getting the stage ready and vendors preparing their booths and the theme is the 100 year anniversary of the easter rising. that was a pivot alley vent that shamed the ireland we know today. a group of irish nationalists rebelled against the british government and ireland had been under british control at that time. >> rising the leaders of the rising, if you read the pro clamation behind me, it's very much inspired by the words of the american founding fathers, interestingly enough, a lot of american founding fathers had irish ancestry.

newly proposed legislation would require employers to give three paid days off so parents can participate in school related activities. >> a study showed this greatly i am proves child's educational chances in life. without forcing them to make the tough decision between paying bills and being involved. >> assemblyman mike gotto introduced the bill this week, less than a quarter of parents with annual income below $30,000 a year describe themselves as very involved in their children's education. he hopes the bill will change that. now back to our rain this week. the heavy downpours spent billions of gallons of much needed water to our reservoirs. we flew over the largest one, andser son reservoir, 51% full. statewide regulators continue to stress the importance of water conservation. >> in santa clara county, many are holding out hope we'll get enough rain to help us get out

of the drought. these men came out to see it full and spilling over. >> like in the middle of a storm. it's very exciting to see the dam fill up like it has. >> reporter: this view from sky 7 hd shows stevens creek reservoir is close to capacity. others aren't quite as fortunate. lexington at 44% and anderson, the valley's largest isn't faring much better at 51%. overall the ten reservoirs in the south bay at 56% of capacity as of friday afternoon. while water in the reservoirs is at least visible, ground water supply levels are currently low. >> we don't know what's going to happen next year. this would be one decent year followed by several dry years. >> reporter: officials say despite the rain, conservation efforts still need to be taken seriously. >> until we're fully recovered and our ground water levels and statewide reservoirs are back to normal, we should be still continue those good water conservation habits that we have

adopted. >> back at the reservoir, visitors take a moment to reflect. >> i took a few pictures and don't get to see that often. i lived here over 30 years and only get to see the creeks flowing this way when there's el nino type weather. >> officials say the water at the reservoir will continue to spill over throughout the weekend. time 8:19 on our saturday morning. and lisa, that rain is on its way. >> that's right. after such a disappointing february, it's nice to see our percentage of normal really creeping up to where it should be this time of year. we've surpassed the march averages in san francisco and we also have daylight saving time to look forward to this weekend with two more storms on way. the first one today is a one on the storm i am fact scale. it's a light one and will bring a burst of rain the afternoon in the north bay and late afternoon and early evening hours in the south bay and east bay with anywhere from a quarter inch to a half inch of rain. a stronger system quickly on its

heels, we have seen very light showers move across the bay and into the north bay this morning as we go in a little bit closer, you'll notice to the north, just north and east of san pablo bay, vallejo and 80 around hercules and martinez. east bay, 580 has been wet around walnut creek. a few showers and concord as well, just around san ramon valley and westward from southern mare in. rain showers will be on the way towards the dinner hour with those breezy winds. and it's all with this frontal band that continues to sink south today and bring those gusty southerly winds. season to date it looks impressive, considering how dry february was with over 13 inches of rain. oakland airport, about 80% of normal of the downtown san

francisco, closing in on 19 inches with nearly 100% of normal and upwards of 28 inches in santa rosa. 95% of normal. even with small amounts the past couple of days in san jose, over 12 inches of rain bringing 101% of normal and livermore, you had about a little less than half an inch of rain and you too in the 98 prosecuti 98% of normal. flash flood watch for sonoma and marin due to saturated soil and rivers and creeks running pretty quick. flooding could be a possibility there and roof camera showing drops on the lens, low 50s for most. morgan hill, 47, half moon bay, 54. you can see a little damp around the airport. not doing too bad on the peninsula right now. wait for the rain throughout much of the morning hours but it will be slick and slippery for us in the afternoon, 51 in livermore and 52 in concord. kind of fogged in with the rain showers. two storms this weekend, light

one today, moderate tomorrow and dry and warmer next week. follow the colored bands here and this is the front that's going to sweep through the bay with the gusty winds. 25 to 35-mile-per-hour wind gusts and then by 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, it's sinking south in the east bay and peninsula and into the south bay. it will being a breezy afternoon and the rainfall will accompany those gusty winds and bulk of the first half of the day in the north bay. by 3:00, 4:00, it does sink south taking the rain with it and you'll have showers throughout the evening hours. our next system is a two on the storm impact scale. quickly on the heels of this one. this will give us periods of rain tomorrow. look what happens through the middle of the day. we are wet and we'll see this continue right on through the evening and we combine the two systems and see anywhere from perhaps 3/4 inch rain from half moon bay to santa rosa and quarter inch in san jose. they had a whole inch there for

insane. >> reporter: jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. 8:46 is the time. lisa argen is here with a full accuweather forecast. is the weekend a total washout? >> it does look pretty wet. we're looking at the flash flood watch continuing in the north bay through 5:00 tomorrow, we have two storm systems on the way. with the saturated soil, we're looking at the possibility of additional rainfall creating flooding from marin to snoonoma. keep that in mind if you're in the north bay. this is the one on the storm impact scale. a weak system will continue to track to the south today bringing gusty winds anywhere from a quarter to half inch of rain. from this loop the past four hours, you can see how the light scattered rain showers are dotting the landscape but the more organized rain is to the north around cloverdale. highway one and front of north of here. we'll look for this to slowly

sink south. throughout the rest of the morning hours, we have scattered showers from novato and 101 near marin and it's been damp on the 680. the santa cruz mountains, not too much going on here, hit or miss shower around 280. san mateo. this is the front and with it we'll have gusty winds and burst of rain throughout the mid morning hours. in the south bay and east bay. a live look outside. you can see the drops on the lens with low 50s from mountain view to oakland and san francisco. 54 in half moon bay and looking pretty gray out there. the winds will continue to pick up throughout the day today and ey'll be strongest with the passage of the cold front. 52 in concord and 51 in livermore and santa cruz it looks gray there but rain will be on the way for you too. with two storm systems this weekend, the stronger one is tomorrow and everyone will be

warmer and drier next week. you fom the time line here. with the yellow and oranges, this is where we're seeing 25 to 35-mile-per-hour winds throughout the day today. it will be quite gusty through 4:00 in the afternoon. as we time out the rain for you, the first half in the morning you'll notice the activity in the north bay and from 2:00 and 3:00, it continues to sink south. we'll have a rainy peninsula throughout the dinner hour and through 7:00 so rain shower activity keeping it rather damp if you have plans throughout your saturday night, keep that in mind. quickly on its heel is a two on the impact scale. we'll pick this up tomorrow morning and notice the shower activity. then by 9:00, we've got more showers developing, all over the bay into mid morning bringing periods of rain throughout the afternoon. and when we add these two days together, rainfall totals could be anywhere from just a quarter inch -- little bet better than that around san jose to a third of an inch in hayward.

a 10-year-old born without arms and hands was able to pursue his passion for baseball during spring training. he was signed on by the new york yankees for a day. he inked a real contract and paid by the team. he joined the bronx bombers in tampa florida. the disease makes it difficult but with the help of the yankees and specially designed gear he was able to live out his dream for a day. 8:56 is our time.
