we want to thank all of you for sharing with us using social media. san jose police have arrested an assistant track coach they believe had sex with two students. 21-year-old enoch garcia works at mt. pleasant high school in san jose. police say the victims are a 17-year-old student and 14-year-old student. the school called police monday and the investigation began. officers arrested garcia on tuesday. in berkeley tonight, police are increasing patrols in response to an attempted kidnapping. a 9-year-old girl says a man tried to abduct her while she was walking along harper street on her way to malcolm x elementary school on monday morning. she says the man got out of a green van and started following her. police are trying to determine if the incident might be connected to a series of atermed kidnappings last fall that involved a green minivan. san jose state university students say they feel like they're back in the civil rights

era when they have to fight for their rights. this comes after a verdict in a case where three white students harassed a black roommate and put a bike lock around his neck. janet o is live at san jose state where there was a rally today. janet. >> reporter: and kristen, student protesters say the punishment wasn't severe enough. two got short jail sentences. a third sentence didn't get any jail time at all. this case set up a platform for students to talk about other race issues here on campus. >> black lives matter! >> reporter: students here say they will not tolerate racism on campus. they have a strong message following monday's outcome in the dj williams' case. >> it is disgusting. it left a bitter taste in my mouth. >> reporter: students say what's even more disappointing is a lack of leadership at san jose state surrounding this incident. >> and for the administration to not even mention it, saying,

we're deeply saddened for the verdict. >> reporter: in the fall of 2013, williams told school officials he was being harassed and called racial slurs. his three white roommates were tried and found guilty of putting a bike lock around his neck. a judge sentenced two of the three defendants to a mere 30 days in jail. >> we're disappointed as well in the verdict. >> reporter: san jose state has since expelled the three white students and today, they said they're trying to take the right steps to make sure all students feel safe. >> we made some strides. we know that we have some ways to go, as well. >> reporter: san jose state says it has implemented many changes, including diversity orientation for incoming students, training for staff, and the university is hoping the biggest change will come when they hire the school's first-ever chief diversity officer. >> we hope they'll bring a breadth of leadership in terms of how we assess our campus climate, what is the student

experience in the halls and campus lives. >> reporter: the four finalists will be on the campus tomorrow to meet and talk with students and staff. in san jose, janet o, "abc7 news." the fbi is releasing new information this evening about the santa clara man accused of stabbing four people last november. investigators believe that the 18-year-old self-radicalized and they found no ties to co-conspirators or foreign terrorist organizations. officials say muhammad's laptop contained pro-isis propaganda and he visited isis and other extremist websites prior to the attack. since december, vandals with bb guns have shot out windows on more than 120 cars. this is video of one attack in january. the vandals struck again yesterday, shooting out windows on eight cars on santiago road. it's the third time on this street this year.

>> we're still searching for a motive and that hopefully will come out when we identify who the suspects are, that are responsible for this. because it makes no sense. >> police say the attacks usually happen between 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning. police are on the lookout for this man, accused of stabbing someone in november. today, investigators released surveillance video of the moment it happened. the suspect got into an argument with another man outside the willow den bar on lincoln avenue. he stabbed the man and then ran off. a popular east bay trail is closed because part of the roadway has collapsed. it's at the entrance of the rifle range road trail in wild cat canyon regional park. crews have set up sandbags to keep it falling farther.

retires could take weeks. saving birds at the highway 101 bridge has been ongoing for years. in january of 2014, caltrans agreed to take down tests that were killing the swallows. now there's a new effort to protect the birds at the new bridge being built. jonathan bloom is live in petaluma to show us what's happening. jonathan? >> reporter: not long ago, the autobon society was suing caltrans. but today, they held a press conference together, along with the assembly member who brokered the deal. they figured out a way to protect the birds without delaying construction. it's a little bird having big problems. this video shows the cliff swallow's intricate nest. >> to watch them build their colony of nests is like watching a busy group of architects. >> reporter: it started three years ago when caltrans began

construction to widen the u.s. 101 bridge over the petaluma river. >> the bridge is home to some of the most congested traffic in the north bay. >> reporter: it's also home to 800 nesting swallows who migrate here every april from argentina. >> their drive to continue nesting there is very intense and they will do anything they can to achieve that goal. >> reporter: so when contractors put up nets to keep the nets out -- >> that netting has an opening that is about half an inch in dime, just enough to squeeze their head in there and get stuck. >> reporter: after nearly 100 birds showed, they sued and won a settlement. contractors would led bird experts monitor every day. if a bird starts a nest, they'll remove it by hand. >> there have been no bird deaths at the bridge since june of 2013 due to construction.

the same period, with a median bay area home selling for $609,000 in february. google's parent company alphabet is selling its robotics division. boston dynamics purchased in 2013. alphabet sees the company as a liability, too. bloomberg speculates the toyota research institute or amazon could be potential buyers. starting tomorrow, uber will be allowed to cross into tijuana, texas from san diego. until now, they've been required to drop off passengers at the border. for now, passengers will have to find another way back across the border, however, into the united states. you know about this all-juice cleanses.
