. >> thanks for joining us, we are off to a mild start across the bay area. here's lisa argen with a first look at the weather. we are looking fourth a couple systems to drop down from the gulf of alaska. there's not a lot of moisture associated them but an increasing cloud cover and cooler air mass today in advance of those systems. some mist and drizzle, and you can barely see the top of the

transamerica pyramid. with the low clouds those will evaporate burks high clouds will filter in and low temperatures from the up upper 50s to lower 60s. still mild in the upper 60s in our inland valleys. we will time-out the rain coming up. chris. >> lisa, thank you. developing news overseas. we are learning new details about the airline that crashed in southern russia, killing all 62 people on board. investigators now say both of the flight recorders have been recovered. the boeing 7337 was coming from dubai. surveillance video captured what is believe to be the moment the crash happened. it burst into flames. there's no official cause but investigators say one likely factor was a strong wind gusting to near hurricane level. officials say the plane crashed about 800 feet short of the runway. back home in the bay area, the search is on for a groper. police say a man inappropriately touched a young girl onboard a public bus.

abc7 news reporter tiffany wilson has the story from san mateo. >> take a good look at this man. he's accused of touching a 17-year-old girl shortly after 7:00 a.m. tuesday. police say that he boarded the bus at 1st and south b, and then sat down next to her. >> he did several things that made her uncomfortable, touched her leg, put his arm around her several times and touched her face. >> the victim repeatedly told the suspect to stop. he did notice. >> at one point he tried to put his hand on her shirt, which she resisted. it continued until he got off the bus near a shopping center. no one on the bus was aware. the riders are disgusted by the suspect's alleged actions. >> i think it's crazy. it's crazy. >> it's not okay to invade someone's face.

>> ms. vasqez girl is 17 years old, the same age as the victim. >> i've had a few men give me certain looks, but i've never had anyone come at me. >> police are encouraging parents to talk to their children about what to do if a stranger makes them uncomfortable. >> vasquez said she already has a plan. say no, get the attention of someone close to you. make it known. >> now that she knows this man's face -- >> you will be on the lookout now? >> most definitely. >> police hope all riders will do the same. in san mateo, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> a major road closer is happening right now on the peninsula. caltran shut down parts of highway 101 in burlingame to demolish an overpass. this morning and tomorrow morning from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., all roads between mil brea and broadway will be closed. one lane heading north will also be blocked off. traffic on the overpass will be rerouted over the weekend. a fix for bart could take months. there will be no service between bay point and the concord -- the north concord station until it at least monday.

the transit agency is trying to figure out what's behind a mysterious power surge that is damaging trains. katie marzullo has the latest. >> baby bart riders are just in a better mood at the end of the work week. >> it's not an inconvenience at all. i enjoy riding bart. things happen. >> they are killing my sleep! [laughter] >> that's about it. other than the commute, you have to deal with it. >> bart riders have been dealing with it for days. >> you get stuck in a lot of traffic because everybody is doing the same thing. it adds at least another half-hour on your commute. >> bart is trying to doing what is causing a voltage spark on the track. the initial urge is on wednesday damaged 50 cars and forced the closer between north concord and pittsburgh-bay point. an industry expert is testing the tracks. >> he's a specialist in terms of identifying voltage problems. >> the tracks will be closed through monday, at least. we told the transit agencies helping with the buses to expect through tuesday even. >> uber is pitching in too.

the ride share company is expanding their carpool options into affected areas of the east bay until bart gets back on track. >> one of the questions we asked is how do we provide a lower cost option so people can more easily get from home to bart station and get to work? >> bart will be fixing cars the next couple weeks while waiting to an necessary part that can take months to order. in concord, katie marzullo, abc7 news. >> the delays are starting to wear on bart attention. riders were more than eager to share their frustrations with abc7 news. >> good days it's an hour and a half but today it's 2 hours. >> it's the worst part of your day because you just don't know what's going to happen. it's usually every morning and every evening you have a problem. >> besides the track problem, bart also experienced delays yesterday morning through the tube and around the daly city station because of an incident that involved police. you can get updates on bart

sheriffs deputies in byron shot and killed a child molestation suspect after a twelve-hour standoff. of the deputies arrived at a home to arrest him. the s.w.a.t. team helped everyone inside the house get out and pumped chemical agents inside. the suspect quickly exited. >> he exited a window of the residence carrying a firearm, at which time he raised the firearm up in the direction of our deputy sheriffs and the deputies, in fear of their lives, fired, and ultimately struck the subject. >> investigators tell us the victim was the man's foster child. 6:07 is the time. >> there's a new petition online to prevent an ikea store to be built in dublin. it calls for a 339,000 square foot store. they said any benefits would not outweigh traffic and other issues caused by the store. the petition is asking for 1500 signatures.

a hive look at the golden gate bridge. we will find out how long the fog had stick around when lisa returns with the full forecast. a peninsula couple is awarded $8 million in the wrongful death case of their baby daughter in 2010. a red wood city jury found that seven-month-old abigail was suffocated by a mattress pad made by evenflo. her parents are sharing their story, but evenflo is defending their product. here's abc7 news reporter katie marzullo. >> just seven months old, she stopped breathing at daycare. her father was out of the country. >> i'm running through the are streets of berlin and praying she's still with us and calling out to her, don't leave, abby, don't leave. >> abigail died at the hospital. she'd been asleep on her back in another room at the daycare. the coroner called it sids, and they believed it. until little plaices report concluded that abigail had actually been put on they are stomach. >> putting a baby on her stomach is not a crime, and it happens,

and she should have been able to breathe on the mattress. >> it was a mattress pad inside an evenflo play yard. they said it was the equivalent of a plastic bag, the jury concluded. >> you put the baby on your product, the baby cannot breathe, and the baby will die. >> he hopes the legal victory will lead to change. >> what we need is a law or a regulation that says babies need to be able to breathe through the top layer of a mattress pad period. >> it's crazy. people want to say the baby died in a crib, its sids, let's go home. >> the jury awarded the family $8 million. >> there's no amount of money that will bring her back. but if somebody else doesn't have to go through this, i think it's worth it. >> at trial, evenflo cited the fact that all treating emergency medical friars and the coroner determined abby died from sids. in a statement the company said,

in part evenflo stands behind the design of their mattress pad and remains confident it was not the cause of her death. we are disappointed with the verdict of the jury and are considering all options, including an appeal. in san mateo county, abc7 news. >> and the family has started a petition to make these mattresses safer. there's a link on our website, abc7news.com. >> the head of the o'clock system announced new steps to address sexual harassment and sexual violence. it was issued vn a two-page letter issued by janet napolitano. you. >> students were eager to show their love for the golden bears while they still had appear chance againsts hawaii.

two key players were out due to injury, and a popular assistant coach was fired just before the start of the tournament. assistant coach terminate ford allegedly sexually harassing a reporter. >> it's terrible, and it's been happening all-around campus s it's never something up wanted to see or something you want to associate with the university. >> it's definitely not a good look for cal. not something to be proud of. >> she denies any wrongdoing and is exploring legal action to get his job back. but he's not alone. just last week the dean of the u.s. berkeley law school resigned with allegations that he assaulted his assistant for months in 2014 and 2015. >> i'm appalled this happened bushes i'm not the surprised. >> the last october, respect end astronomer, resigned catch allegations he sexually harassed and groped students for a decade. there is a blog about going zone at the universities and said it's got to stop.

and talked about his relationship with the late leonard nemoy or spock. >>s and santas from all over gathered in gatlinburg, tennessee yesterday to see who is the best snow tube racer. the santas went head-to-head for five grounds of rounds. the winner gets a trophy and two years of bragging rights. it was the fourth santa event. speaking sufficient the snow, how are things looking up in the syria, lisa? >> pretty good. the second system is more significant than the first system. we have two weak weather systems. we will call them storms. first arrives tomorrow, the second on its heels on monday. in advance of all the systems right now, live doppler 7hd showing the cloud cover. low clouds and high clouds from the north bay, on securing the visibility for some, but allowing for mild temperatures for everyone. so a three-mile visibility for half moon bay, and up to the north in santa rosa six miles.

inland we are clear in concord. we will see more clouds overspread the area today, and several pieces of energy dropping down from the pacific northwest will begin to invade the state. high pressure is holding on to southern california and the central coast. this is the golden gate bridge where you can barely see, just because of the low clouds. kind of foggy out there. but overall it's mist and drizzle that will greet you across this area. with 56 in oakland, 54 in san jose, 50 in morgan hill. and from our exploratorium camera you can't even see the transamerica pyramid. low clouds on securing that. 51 by the delta with the southwest wind. we will look for the cooler temperatures all around the bay. 50 a napa. santa rosa 50, as well as livermore. 24 hours ago we were looking at slightly cooler numbers. with the cloud cover we are up a few degrees. 3 degrees warmer in livermore. two degrees cooler in san jose. and from sfo, the peninsula, just the clouds cover now. no delays so far at sfo.

mist and drizzle in spots. spring begins tonight. the equinox at 9:30. equal amount. day light and darkness. we look for the sun to come up at 7:14 this morning. two light storms tomorrow into monday. second one on monday slightly stronger. that will lower the snow levels. a review of march in san francisco, fantastic. average rainfall about 3.25 inches. we picked up 6.25. livermore we picked up over an inch over their two inches, and about the same daily in san jose. most points south of san francisco doing pretty well at 100% of normal or better. santa rosa a little shy of that, as well as oakland. next storm to impact us will be a light one a1 on the storm impact scale. a tenth to a third of an inch with light winds. here's the way it will play out tomorrow. you see the potty showers in the north -- the spotty showers in the north bay. it will sink to the east by the

afternoon and fall apart by 4:00. not much expected from fremont and haywarded and san jose. by monday we are dry in the morning and by the afternoon we are looking at more showers all around the bay for the evening commute. the first system anywhere from a tenth of an inch in mountain view to a third of an inch. and we could see a quarter inch in hayward. snow levels will continue to come down with the second system. seven inches in kirkwood. we could see about ten inches above 5,000 feet. 67 in concord. mild, despite the cloud cover. light rain tomorrow with a 1 on the storm impact scale. the second system also a weak one. and maybe a slight chance of showers on tuesday. partly cloudy. then look at the sunshine and 70s will be revealed for the second half of the work week. >> we are looking ahead to more clouds. >> yeah. >> thank you. coming up, an abc7 news viewer lends a hand to another bay area family. how she and "7 on your side"

a california high school held a basketball fundraiser last night to raise money for the family of a fallen chp officer nathan taylor. the boys and girls basketball team played a game against highway patrol officers and other police departments. taylor died last week after being hit by an s.u.v. while directing traffic at an accident site. of the game raised nearly $35,000 for officer taylor's family. christmas came three months late for a family in oakland. a generous viewer stepped up after watching the family's plight in a recent "7 on your side" story. our michael finney was glad to help make it happen. request where >>. >> is it mary paid a surprise visit to tiffany lewis and her two children last week. >> i saw your story and it really moved me. >> we introduced you to tiffany and her two children in january. she purchased $600 of toys on layaway at toys-r-us. the retailer accidentally gave the toys to another family and tiffany's children were left without most of their gifts on christmas morning.

but that didn't bother them. >> i'm all right. i can take my money and buy some. i still appreciate what she did, and she's a good mom. >> mary surprised tiffany with a shopping spree at target to buy the gifts her children never got. >> here we come! >> here we come! had. low 60s along the coast. upper 60s, perhaps 70 around gilroy and santa cruz today. so there are two systems arriving. spring arrives tonight's. we will time they will them out for you. chris >> lisa, thank you. new this morning, the fatherful france train hero spencer stone is facing charges for his alleged involvement in an arson fraud scheme. they are accused of collecting more than $1 million in insurance money collected from seven fires in sacramento. stone is charged with 13 counts of mail and wire fraud. investigators sale he consulted and assisted the two other men with insurance claims. captured, one of the most wanted suspects in connection with the paris terrorist attacks is in custody. security forces cornered salah abdeslam just yards away from his family's home in brussels, belgium. he's wounded, but alive. alex is in brussels where it all went down. >> gunshots ringing out as he heavily armed s.w.a.t. teams moved in. residents running for cover. one of the world's most wanted men is cornered on this brussels street. salah abdeslam, believed to be the man in the hooded sweatshirt, dragged off the pavement by police. shot in the leg, you see him limping as they force him into the car. the special forces training their guns on nearby buildings, looking for possible accomplices. an ambulance whisked abdeslam away to the hospital. now in custody and guarded by masked men. the 26-year-old abdeslam was the only survivor of the group of terrorists who carried out the highly coordinated paris attacks that claimed 137 lives. a french citizen in belgium drove the car that took him to the soccer stadium. a match between germany and frances was underway and interrupted by the powerful

blasts. he rented the car who dropped off a gunman at a theater with an american band was performing, freezing in fear as shocks rang out. and a pregnant woman hang out the window, begging for help. not far away, abdeslam's brother opened fire on this cafe and later detonated a suicide vest. the chaos captured in this "daily mail" video. they believed he was planning to carry out another attack that night himself, but got cold feet. authorities learned he then called two friends in belgium, asking to be picked up. this surveillance video was taken at a france gas station before he slipped across the border into belgium, where his brother later spoke with reporters. >> we do not know where he is, he said. in the months that followed a massive manhunt. belgian authorities conducting more than 100 raids, arresting more than 58 people. his friends cold abc news he was trying to get to syria.

this is emeryville where the sun comes up at 7:14. sets at 7:51. spring arrives tonight at 9:30. equal hours of day light and darkness for the next couple of days. it's 50 napa, 52 by the delta with the southwest winds. in advance of the system we will have breezier winds, a cooler air mass. lots of cloud cover, bringing the numbers down. and finally from mt. tam you can see just a sliver of light there with about 30 minutes until the official sunrise. so it looks pretty good out there. we have the mist and drizzle. we covered that. also spring beginning tonight. and by the second half of the upcoming work week it will feel and look more like spring. a couple opportunities for rain and unfortunately not much. we will take anything we can get. average rainfall right now is about 85% in oakland. upwards of over one hundred% in salinas and down in san jose. that's good news. we are looking at the fog

somewhat along the coast. and then as that lists, more mid- and high-level clouds, bringing us mostly cloudy afternoon. so we are looking at high pressure holding on along the central coast. and southern california upper 60s to low 70s. 1 on the storm impact scale is what we are expecting tomorrow and monday. so with the weak weather system coming in, you will notice the rain is in the north bay for the first part of the morning. second half of the day, sliding to the south. just a couple hundredths to about a third of an inch for that one. this is the second one arriving monday afternoon with more rain in the north bay. holds together a little better in the east bay and south bay. we add the two systems today. the first one about a tenning in mountain view to .2 in the north bay. and snowfall amounts, about a half a foot from donner. and today ahead of the system low 60s san francisco to about 68 in livermore. 65 oakland. and the accuweather seven-day forecast, here comes our storm
