live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> everything about this attack blows up your mind that why would somebody do that? >> local pakistanis worry about the emotional toll is taking on loved ones back home. good evening. i'm eric thomas. suicide bombers targeted a public park in the capital city of pakistan. dozens are dead, many women and children. lilian kim is in our newsroom with more. lilian? >> pakistani americans living in the bay area got word from their friends and family. a heartbreaking situation as they have seen more violence in their home country in the last few years. >> they started their day with horrible news.

custody. people were joined by others around the world as they mourned the victim. pope francis denounced blind and brutal terrorism as they held a vigil at st. peter's basilica. the pope cited recent attacks in belgium, turkey, nigeria and iraq and he prayed that the victims of terrorists hillary ject the -- will reject conflict and instead work together. abc7 news was in san francisco as worshipers packed saint mary's cathedral. today's services marked the end of holy week. it follows good friday, the holiest day of the church year. 10 people are without a home tonight after an intense fire raced through a santa rosa fourplex.

flames tore through the roof at 5:30 this afternoon. it started in a downstairs unit and quickly spread. two residents went to the hospital for smoke inhalation. the sonoma county task force is investigating the cause of the fire. >> a crash in san francisco's mission district left one person dead this afternoon. it happened after 5:00 a ererro street between 17th and 18th street. the driver who died had a medical emergency causing him to swerve and hit another car head on. the other driver had minor injuries. police are investigating the second incident of racist graffiti found in san leandro earlier this month. police discovered racial slurs painted on a wall at morena park near a playground. alyssa harrington has the story. >> kids play by the

don't think they should be doing this especially when there are kids and it is a public place and you are not supposed to be showing that to kid. >> police are asking the public for help to keep an eye out for anyone suspicious. alyssa herring n to, abc7 news. oakland firefighters freed a young construction worker trapped in a trench. abc7 news was in oakland after the ground gave way on 17th avenue and east 20th street. they had to shore it up before they freed someone under two concrete slabs. >> he was right under the window. and a couple pieces were pining him against the wall. the 17-year-old was taken to highland hospital and he is expected to be okay. >> police are asking for your help finding this man, perez reyes, a resident of anchorage, alaska. he has the mental capacity of

a 6-year-old and speaks limited english. he was visiting the city with his caregiver when she left him with her boyfriend. both men disappeared and haven't been seen since. chp is working with richmond police after a rash of highway shootings, both of which are fatal. melanie woodrow had a chance to ride along with one of richmond pd's gang experts. she has the story tonight. >> on this afternoon the richmond police officer is patrolling santa fe. the gang members also have a name for it it. it is one of several areas terry o is showing us. >> gangs have determined this to be their territory. >> no matter how many times gang fro fee tee is paint -- gang graffiti comes down it goes up again. they remember when it was worse. >> when we first moved in you didn't see children out there. >> why?
