abc 7 news reporter serio is in the news room. >> four additional officers are involved and the whole me mess could threaten all the cases those officers investigated. >> this latest text message heing scandal centers on officer jason lye. internal investigators found a series of texts he exchanged with three other officers while being investigated with sexual assault. he was charged last week with illegally using police computers to look up confidential bmv records. >> the language itself was republic hencive and defamatory. >> his office will immediately begin reviewing all the information connected to the implicated officers for bias. >> there are these festering views within the police

department, which, unfortunately, are now coming to light. >> d.a.gosko is especially concerned because this latest batch of derogatory conversations were happening while the first text messaging scandal was unfolding. during the 2014 investigation of sergeant thurmager, he was were investigated. seven other officers were reinstated after a judge said the statute of limitations ran out on efforts to remove them from the force. 13 cases handled by those officers were dismissed. >> it continues to create this concern that we have that there are issues that need to be addressed. >> as soon as the texts involving jason lye were discovered, he suspended all four officers involved. one has been fired and another retired. abc 7 news. the man known as the birdied bandit appeared in federal court today to face bank robbery charges. sketches of kenneth ellis showed him getting emotional inside

court. he confessed to robbing 11 banks, including some inside the bay area. here is what ellis hooked like before he was caught. police arrested him last week in brentwood after a resident recognized him. we now know how much money morago wants to fill a large sinkhole. certify officials are asking the state for $3.5 million. traffic has been diverted in the area ever since the sinkhole opened up. the damage includes hundreds of feet of storm drain piepg, the sidewalks, curb and its pedestrian ramp. governor brown will sign legislation next monday that eventually will give california the highest minimum wage, $15 an hour. state lawyermakers approved a deal today and sent it to the governor's desk. the state raised the minimum wage to $10.50 and it will hit $15 an hour in 2022.

seven people are recovering after a whale watching ship slammed into a pier in san diego. the throttle got stuck. passengers describe a hard hit. 144 people were on board. up to seven injured. three went to the hospital with neck, back or leg injuries. new at 11:00, a seven-week old baby boy is safe and unharmed tonight after police say he was kidnapped by a stranger. officers arrested this woman caught on surveillance leaving a shopping mall near philadelphia. they say she be friended a family and spent about half an hour with them in the food court. police say the family let the suspect hold him while the mother took a phone call. the stranger then walked away with the baby. police found her and the boy unharmed in a town about six miles away. pfizer got pranked the day before april fools' day. according to fortune, a news release was put out saying pfizer would no longer increase the price of its drugs. but the announcement as well as
