live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> new video tonight of two people stealing thousand of dollars worth of items from a bay area charity including a donated scooter from san francisco giants star hunter pence. i'm matt keller in for eric thomas. the scooter was recently sold for charity in an auction and it is the second time pence's scooter has gone missing. tonight police are searching for the two thieves. lilian kim is live outside the make a wish foundation in san francisco. lilian? >> matt, the make a wish foundation is located on the eighth floor of this office building and it was the only floor the thieves targeted which is why make a wish believes this was no random burglary. >> there is a high volume everywhere. we are very fortunate to have

generous donors. >> she is the auction manager for the make a wish foundation greater bay area. two men broke through the backdoor and took a handful of items, but the most available and most precious, hunter pence's customized motor scooter. the outfielder donated the item and it recently sold for $40,000 at auction. >> did you tell the owner? >> we reached out to her. >> what did she say? >> she hasn't gotten back, but she is an incredible make a wish supporter. >> it is scooter gate all over again. his first scooter was stolen outside a restaurant. he got it back after someone turned it into police. this time it is not a crime of opportunity. make a wish believes security knew exactly what they were looking for. not only was it is one targeted, but a key is needed to get into the building. >> you look and you can see everywhere on the walls we have our mission everywhere.

it breaks your heart there are people like this out there. >> make a wish greater bay area is the chapter that granted the wish of miles scott, the 5-year-old cancer survivor who got to be that kid for a day. they said rest assured i will ask that kid bring justice. >> abc7 news. a drug over dose problem that has killed 9 people in sacramento has reached the bay area. paramedics with redwood city fire and central county fire on the peninsula tweeted they responded to over doses involving fentanyl. in those cases the people did not die. investigators say the buyers think they are getting mild painkillers called norco and instead it is fentanyl which is 100 times more powerful than morphine. one of the victims was a 32-year-old man who broke his ankle in a skateboarding accident. he needed surgery and a steal bar. >> i know it was painful for

him. even when it was cold he could feel the bar rattle on his bones. the fake norco was to heavy relieve the pain. i hope it did, but he didn't take that knowing he wouldn't wake up again. >> on friday federal authorities issued a warning about the drug. several deaths in the bay area and santa cruz county was linked to fentanyl linked to look like xanax. they have damaged vehicles looking like bb guns and now they are turning their weapons on people. they have shown the suspected it shooter. cornell bernard has the story from san leandro. >> morgan show us the pellet holes lodged in the bar. on march 25th the bar was sprayed with bb's from a passing car and one of his customers was hit.

>> it was two inches in size. >> the man went to the hospital and several hours later another drive by. a man was shot in the forehead leaving a meeting at this methodist church. he was not seriously hurt, but the pastor is concerned ji. we -- >> we want this to continue to be a safe place. not just in these walls, but when people leave. >> they believe the same vandals are to blame. since december they damaged at least 125 cars and shot out several storefront windows downtown. one of the suspects was even caught on surveillance video. the shootings are now more brazen. >> now they are getting increasingly violent and starting to shoot people for no reason whatsoever. >> the suspects have been seen driving this toyota 4 runner with a unique fuel cover. >> we are deploying the officers hoping to find this car driving around san leandro. >> you and i can be the next

victims. >> he said he is afraid to be outside at night and cans the shootings to -- and he wants the shooting to stop. >> it is stupid and immature and childish. >> police hope a tip from the public will help catch the bb gun vandals. cornell bernard, abc7 news. tonight monterey police are holding the decapitated head from the statue of saint junipero serra as evidence. the vandals knocked the head off the statue at the presidio of monterey last october following pope francis' can fannization. cannonization. the man being seen beaten by sheriff deputies is expected to appear in court tomorrow. we will find out about the new charges. the criminal complaint against him are expected to be unsealed. the fbi and san francisco police arrested him on friday at a home on teddy avenue in

the city's visitation valley neighborhood. someone had been shot at the home earlier in the day. it is not clear why petroff was arrested, but it is not related to the shooting. investigators are you can taying to this woman. she and her 17-month-old daughter were found safe yesterday. they were reported missing on friday. sources tell abc7 news that she is is the ex-girlfriend of petroff and petroff is the suspect in a domestic violence case. after a weekend of testing, the electrical problem between north concord and pittsburgh bay point stations is unsolved. they asked them to take a fresh look at what is causing the problem. riders have been inconvenienced for the next two weeks. they will operate two shuttle trains every 10 minutes. a heads up for train riders. many of the trains will make longer stops and have new

departure times. an additional bike car is being added to the train. get the latest at abc7news.com. governor brown is set to sign and finalize the minimum wage deal. critics say it will kill jobs and raise prices for consumers. but the plan to raise minimum wage to $15 an hour does so in a responsible way and provide flexibility if economic conditions change. under the plan the hourly wage will increase to $10.50 next year and then go up each year reaching $15 in 2022. san francisco may become the first city in the u.s. to offer fully paid leave for new parents. supervisors are slated to vote on whether employers should pay 45% during family leave. it would keep local parent from keeping a pay cut while at home with a child. and tesla may need to raise more money if they hope

another reminder from authorities to be careful when observing california's beautiful scenery. a man lost control while driving in a canyon near malibu. he slammed into a guardrail. he managed to get out on his own, but on his way to safety he was hit by a passing tour bus. incredibly he survived both accidents. he was being treated for several injuries. it was a close call on the bay bridge this morning for a little dog. a tine gnaw chihuahua -- a tiny chihuahua lead police on a chase stoping traffic on the way. leslie brinkley is live in san francisco with the story.

leslie? >> reporter: what a little dynamo this 10-pound chihuahua is safe tonight, but a little stressed out. after all, he took officers on a wild, crazy ordeal running through traffic andy vasing getting pecked up. >> 7:00 a.m. on sunday and a motorist phoned in a report of a black chihuahua on the bay bridge. the dog ran westbound toward san francisco into the on coming lanes of eastbound traffic as you can see in this chp video. motorcycle officers joined in the chase as other units ran a traffic break across the bridge. >> it took awhile. he was fast and he was running and we set up several road blocks, but he ran around us. we were able to coral him and box him in. the motor officer came up and took him into custody. >> they even chased the little guy on foot for five minutes and he didn't let up steam. the whole pursuit lasted 30

minutes. no one has stepped forward to claim the dog. he is being held at animal care and control. >> animal services said he had on a collar with a decorative skull collar. no name, no number. >> they nicknamed him ponch after the old tv show "chips." they don't know if ponch escaped from his owner on treasure island or was abandoned there, but he ran for his life and in the end survived. if the owner is not located ponch will be put up for adoption. leslie brinkley, abc news. former president bill clinton and daughter chelsea joined bay area students today for a day of action. abc7 news was there as they spruced up school grounds. volunteers planted trees and painted murals. had too's event was hosted by the oakland unified school district. 9,000 people are resting up after the trans america

rock and roll half marathon. they captured a portion of the race and they started along the great highway and finished along the civic center. they provided this video from the finish line. the winner is from couldy staw recaw -- costa rica. a skateboarding icon visited san francisco today. >> abc7 news was in the maybe as tony hawk and other pro skaters showed off their moves. they attended a series of events in the low income areas. he also encouraged the younger generations to take up the sport. >> skateboarding will be as common as others to choose. more kids choose to skateboard than play little league these day. >> hawk held a special fundraising dinner raising at least $700,000 for his foundation to build those skate parks.

made $10,000 for crying on camera? >> no. but i was like that. when i left my mom, boom, the tears would come. in the weather department we are tracking a whiplashing weather. we will start out with spring-like temperatures and then surge to summer-like warmth and then cool off with a chance of rain. right now we are dry and temperatures are in the 50s across the board. 54 in san francisco and 55 in san jose. 56 in hayward and fairfield and checking in with a temperature of 54 degrees. live doppler 7hd and you notice this river of clouds moving on shore. it is adding clouds into our atmosphere overnight. what it will really do is keep temperatures in check the next 24 hours. it is a very seasonal afternoon. we are in the upper 40s to the lower 50s. 51 in san francisco and we will drop to 47 in fap paw and 47 morgan hill. overnight dropping to 50 degrees. future weather as we go hour by hour on your monday morning, 7:00 in the morning a fair amount of fog along the

another unicycle record has fallen to a bay area 16-year-old. he sent us this video showing him climbing stairs in the foresthill neighborhood in san francisco today. he is going upstairs and not down the stairs. he bounced up 1005 stairs in 44 minutes. the old record for most stair climbed was 670. just yesterday he broke the record for solving the most rubik's cubes.

tonight an 8-year-old boy desperately wants a diabetes service dog to look out for him. those dogs aren't cheap so he has been saving everything he can to get some money and he needs help. >> aidan has been saving his pennies since he was four, just after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. >> there are dogs that help you with your diabetes and i thought i really want to get one of these. >> they are especially trained to monitor glucose levels.

it is something they must do. >> they can sense it 20 minutes to 30 minutes before the blood meter actually tells you that you are low. >> that can be life saving. this dog sensed that luke's levels were low and woke his mom in time to give him a shot. it would mean his mom wouldn't have to check on him through the night. but the dogs cost $15,000. aidan's 34078 encouraged him to save. save he has one penny at a time in jars. >> aidan comes with a friend and they haul a red wagon into the bank. >> so many pennies he nicknamed him brinks. his neighbors help. donating on-line and even putting penny jars in their businesses. >> as they say every penny counts and i want to thank everyone. >> he is now $9,000 away from bringing home a new best friend with four paws. gloria riff -- riveara, abc
