a few extra times and squeezing on to the subway from yankee stadium to 178th street in the bronx not letting go of bernie sanders' recent comment to "the daily news." >> how do you get on the subway today? >> you get a token and get on. >> i think it was my first term when we changed. >> reporter: the empire state now the battleground. clinton for the first time talking about this comment from sanders. >> i don't believe that she is qualified. >> well, it's kind of a silly thing to say. >> reporter: sanders strolling down midtown manhattan streets. greeting fellow brooklynites. >> love you. >> reporter: after the new york primary, only three large states are left to vote. california, new jersey and pennsylvania. sanders needs to win all four with large margins to catch up to clinton. on the gop side, donald trump making sure his fellow new yorkers don't forget ted cruz's comments about new york values months ago. >> do you remember during the debate when he started lecturing me on new york values like we're no good. >> reporter: ted cruz trying to get past that and making the rounds across the state with a stop in the bronx.

matter. tell the truth. you are defending the people who cause young people to go out and take guns. i listened to them, and they don't listen to me. you will never learn anything when you're talking. >> critics say clinton's anti-crime bill led to mass incarcerations disproportionately affecting african-americans. now to the weather and the extent of destruction from the slew of tornadoes that tore across the southeast is just starting to become clear. 13 confirmed tornadoes pounded florida, georgia and alabama. at least one of those with winds of 120 miles an hour. the aftermath is really heartbreaking. homes crushed, properties wiped out, residents facing a long and costly cleanup. and look at this, the severe weather is moving away from there motorially heading offshore. some of those are moving north and could produce snow around

the great lakes and in the mountains of vermont, new hampshire as well as maine. more freezing temperatures again this weekend. the 20s in the northeast, and you can see that freeze there, it's dipping far south. well, breaking overnight, secretary of state john kerry is in iraq on a surprise visit. he'll meet with the prime minister and other iraqi leaders. topping the agenda on this diplomatic mission, the battle against isis. kerry was bahrain yesterday for a meeting on the conflicts in syria and yemen. well, nearly a month after the cold-blooded deadly attack in the airport in brussels, one man linked to the bombing is still on the run. investigators don't know his name or where he might be hiding so they released this new surveillance video hoping to get leads. abc's alex marquardt has the latest from brussels. >> reporter: those new images showing the so-called man in the hat walking calmly away from the airport. just minutes earlier the explosives from the two suicide bombers with him ripping through the departures hall. the third attacker in his tan coat joining the fleeing masses, even running like those around

him. then for almost an hour there were no cameras that picked him up. the authorities say the man was walking through this town which is just outside the airport toward brussels. when he's next seen, the coat is gone, sleeves rolled up, his right arm raised like he's on the phone. authorities believe he walked the six miles into town where he's seen strolling on the sidewalk two hours after the blast. elbow patches on the shirt, still wearing that hat. this small intersection is his last known location before vanishing. the police are hoping the public sees something they recognize to help lead them to the suspect. alex marquardt, abc news, brussels. president obama is on the west coast for a slew of star-studded democratic fund-raisers. the president landed last night at l.a.x. greeted by a waiting crowd. it came just hours after he took aim on republicans' attempts to block his nominee to the supreme court, merrick garland, until the next president is sworn in. at stake he says is the integrity of the nation's crucial judicial branch.

>> it's not just a matter of who is occupying that ninth seat in the supreme court. it has to do with how we as a democracy operate. >> meantime, republican senator lindsey graham is now reversing course saying he will meet with garland. a graham spokesman said, however, it would be out of courtesy as graham is still opposed to garland's nomination. a u.s. army colonel stationed in baghdad got a firsthand reminder that nothing gets in the way of drills, not even media briefings. >> duck and cover. get away from the windows. take cover and await further instructions. theater and dance major has stunned the campus. police say a man seen riding a bike in surveillance video and wearing a backpack is a suspect in the case. weiser is described as a uniquely talented dancer by professors and classmates. well, police in washington state have apprehended one of two dangerous patients who escaped from a psychiatric hospital. 59-year-old mark adams was spotted on a public bus, but 28-year-old anthony garver still remains at large. he was found not competent to stand trial two years ago accused of stabbing a woman 24 times in the chest before slashing her throat. police believe garver hopped a bus to spokane. what goes up must come down and after nearly a hundred years, that finally applies to the price of stamps. the price drops this weekend from 49 to 47 cents for a standard letter. a temporary price hike granted to the u.s. postal service in 2014 is expiring. the last time the postage rate decreased was 1919. the senate has rejected

legislation that would have prevented airlines from making airline seats even smaller. senator chuck schumer from new york was pushing an amendment to block any more reductions in seat size, legroom and aisle width. schumer complained that as a six-footer, he feels cramped in those seats adding, it shouldn't cost you an arm and leg just to have room for your arms and your legs. when we come back, stuck on a cliff and needing rescue. proof that love really does make people do crazy things. and a surfing scare. a man on a paddle board knocked off by a shark. soup and sandwich and cannonballs and clean and real and looking good and sandwich and soup and a new personal best. and a little help and soup and sandwich

his name is s.j. for smokey jr., and these were the moments immediately after firefighters rescued him from a 277-acre brush fire that damaged several homes just north of orlando, florida. you can kind of see his hair is a little singed, and florida, fish and wildlife is checking him out just to make sure he's going to be okay. if you're about to head out on your morning commute, expect wet conditions from california through west texas and from indiana to tennessee into the northeast. you may also find some ice around the great lakes. and if you're flying, you may find airport delays in chicago, detroit, las vegas and phoenix. well, the roads were slick in los angeles yesterday setting the stage for a particularly wild police chase.

>> wild is the word, and it involved a convertible with its top down spinning around in doughnuts on sunset boulevard of all places. abc's diane macedo joining us now with the latest on this crazy story. good morning. >> good morning to you. so this started with a burglary, two suspects, a convertible and some rain and ended with many viral videos and no doubt many confused police officers. it's hardly the first police chase captured on live television, but it might be the most bizarre. a convertible raced through the streets of l.a. in the rain with the top down for more than an hour with police in hot pursuit, sort of. it all began around 2 p.m. as the 'burgh cops started following the mustang and two suspects but while people running from cops try to disappear, these guys seemed to want attention or to get wet kicking things off by putting the top down. with the rain pouring, the car then picks up speed and drives so dangerously, the police cars back off, and with no cops behind them, the driver starts doing doughnuts across all lanes of traffic and makes two

different trips down hollywood boulevard as spectators cheer them on. it is just one of many areas where the passenger stands and even waves to onlookers as though on parade, a parade nearly stopped by a tmz bus but not quite. eventually though the car does pull over on a south l.a. side street, and here is where things get weird. the driver gets out and sits on the hood of the car as both men exchange hugs, high-fives and even selfies with a group standing on the sidewalk. >> he shook my hand. i told him, i said, hey, man, the police are going to be here pretty soon. don't resist, don't cause any problems, i say, because they're really mad at you guys. >> reporter: when sheriff's deputies arrive a few minutes later, the two calmly surrender because, you know, you don't want to make a scene. the mustang did clip another car, but luckily no one was hurt in the incident. tmz says the bus driver that nearly ended the chase didn't even know it was happening and just happened to be changing lanes. reena. >> that was incredible video, diane. thank you so much.

well, firefighters north of l.a. had their hands full with a dramatic rescue in morro bay. 27-year-old michael banks had scaled the 600-foot morro rock, got stuck, we're talking 80 feet up, and he did it all to propose to his girlfriend live on facetime. well, fire crews came to the rescue with a helicopter and a bill for the cost of the rescue, but that's not all. police say banks, banks was high on amphetamine. they arrested him for possession. the good news, though, is that his girlfriend, she actually said yes. >> that's the good news. well, some sports at the masters. defending champ jordan spieth picked up where he left off. he's in first place going into today's second round. for ernie els, well, let's just say things didn't get off to a good start. check out els on the 1st hole green here missing short putt after short putt after short putt. he kept going until he finally put it in

officially scores a 9. either way els set the dubious record of having the highest ever score on the 1st hole of the tournament. he finished the day in first -- in 81st place. and check out this frightening encounter caught on camera off jupiter, florida. paddle surfer maximo trinidad was enjoying the waves when he was overcome by sheer terror. a shark suddenly shot at him like a torpedo hitting the surfboard and knocking him into the water. as you can see maximo was not hurt but saying being close to such a beautiful animal was amazing. that might not be my reaction. >> no, not at all. mine might be calling for my mommy. up next in "the pulse," the new "star wars" trailer, checking it over frame by frame. what clues does it remain. a moving moment. a baby getting glasses seeing his mom for the first time. ♪ wait, did you just have that on your phone? it's time to mix it up.
