city but not today. >> and on the peninsula, san mateo bridge, a bridge going into nothingness. drew is tracking the rain. >> muggy out there, a lot of moisture in at the moatmosphere. the radar showing a thin light of line showers. we'll get you down to street level. this is very light rain indicated by the light green we have on live doppler 7 hd. similar story setting up north of burlingame. and even daily city, we have light showers. storm impact scale, today and tomorrow, it's a one. a light storm, rainfall about 0.9 and a chance if ifor isolat thunder. after 4:00, and before 8:00 tonight, there will be some pockets of downpours. first starting in the south bay and slowly marching their way

motorists say numbers are alarming. as a gas station, drivers know there are risks to the word. however he's alarmed to hear the danger comes from someone with a gun and not a steering wheel in their hands. last month a party bus was shot. and about in february, 39-year-old leslie graham was killed while driving westbound on 80. and in december, a portion of highway 242 was shut down after an suv pulled up next to a mercedes-benz and shot the driver multiple times. these are just a sample of the 16 highway shootings in the past five months. >> i think it's terrifying. to be honest, i didn't know that it was that many shootings happening or like an epidemic. >> reporter: albert is in town to check out the boat show. >> obviously just minding my own business, going to a boat show and to end up in the middle of a shooting would be a threat traumatic estimate.

>> reporter: chp says the highway shootings are gang related and not random. but that doesn't put rick at ease. >> they can always shoot the wrong person also, right? >> reporter: and investigators say because they're gang related, victims and witnesses often refuse to. >> these days it seems like gangs are pretty merciless with retaliation. >> reporter: a task force started in march. so far officers have taken 29 guns off the street and put 77 in jail. on saturday, mccoy was arrested for attempted murder related to one of the freeway shootings in pittsburg. he's being held on $1.3 million bond. chp says it's a priority to make an arrest in all 16 highway shootings. tiffany wilson, abc 7 news. san jose state students are on alert after a shooting just a block from campus. take a look at the map. it happened late last night on south 10th street and east

williams. now live with the latest on the investigation. janet. >> reporter: yeah, this is a popular spot where many students hang out, grab tacos, but last night they were witnesses to the shooting. students tell us they position this is gang related. >> gang members from the people i talked to that were here. >> reporter: kree memanuel was g home from school when he saw the shooting victim on the ground. >> he wasn't moving. >> reporter: police arrived a few minutes later at 11:00 last night. the victim an adult male was taken to the hospital where he is now being treated for life threatening injuries. police say they don't know the motive for the shooting. the shooting suspect or suspects are still on the loose. crime scene investigators finished gathering evidence early this morning and that included bullet casing. the taco truck owner says he had a line of student waiting for food when the shots rang out. >> and i heard like four are or five gun shots. >> reporter: witnesses say it all happened so fast, they didn't have time to react.

>> pretty scary. things happening like this. >> reporter: no one else was hurt in this incident. now, police say that they do not have a suspect description at this time. they are asking witnesses to give them a call. reporting live in san jose, janet oh. and sheriff's office releasting dramatic body camera video showing the arrest of a teen suing xeg differences for excessive force. take a look. >> he grabbed all of us. >> come here. no. no. >> the teen was thrown to the ground and suffered facial swelling and bruises. she's now filed lawsuit against the county. that is on hold because the sheriff is facing resisting arrest charge.

deputy says he was suspecting domestic abuse. and the share arrive office also released audio in which she refers to the deputy with a racial slur. >> new details about a dental assistant arrested for molesting a young girl and may have arrested as many as 50. she also worked at two dental clinics. he was arrested after a young girl he touched her will inappropriately while she was under the influence of nitrous ox side. police say evidence shows that he recorded and gave them directions. he's being held on $8.1 million. stanford university students are taking matters in to their own hands to give us a real gauge of how serious the sexual assault problem is on campus.

today students are voting on a referendum. stanford is accused of down playing the problem after its even survey found nearly 2% of students have been assaulted. a survey of similarly sized campuses reported much hire rates, 43%. results of the refer deendu deeg will be released tomorrow night. in less than two hours, president obama will be in san francisco. only a few wealthy donors will spend time with him. the rest of us, it could mean major traffic and airport delays. sfo you can see live already experiencing 50 minute delays because of the rain. later on when he arrives at 1:30, expect to see even more delays because, well, they have to shut down the air space. daughter malia is also traveling with president obama. so if you have an afternoon flight, be prepared to wait. air traffic control allows the president to come in while everybody else stays put for a while. once he lands, traffic will be impacted on the ground as freeways and streets are closed

in houston, a massive fire at a texas chemical plant this morning. residents right near the area was told to shelter in place in that area. officials were concerned about air quality. you can see the thick black plume of smoke there. now they say it's fine. no word yet on what caused this fire. just yesterday, an exxon refinery caught fire in bay town, texas, just about 20 miles away. >> and in san antonio, officials a the a u.s. air force base say an air man shot and killed his sxhander commander in an apparent murder-suicide. they found two handguns. the fbi is assisting the investigation. they say this was not an act of

terrorism. officials are notifying family before they release identities. also new this morning, bell dwan authorities may have arrested a key suspect in the brussels attack. and they called on the public to help find this man. he was seen with two suicide bombers at the airport just before the march 22nd the attack that claimed 32 lives. officials are not are arresting those arrested today, but media says the man in the jacket is among those taken into custody. they have identified him as mohammad an brbrini and say he' also wanted in connection to the paris attacks. bernie sanders is headed to italy next would he eek. he will be attending a conference on soerl issues. sanders said he was very moved by the invitation to the vatican. also new this morning, speaking of the pope, pope francis is calling on catholics to be more tolerant. in a new church document called the joy of love, the pope says

this is a really light storm from today into tomorrow. rainfall up to 0.9 in the heaviest locales. but something that we will watch this afternoon, not out of the question to have isolated thunder possible. so future weather, hour by hour we go, we will watch something happen right around 5:00, future weather is indicating heavier downpours going to try to move into the south bay. future weather shows you these pops, it's a good indication of very heavy rain falling. maybe isolated hail possible around 5:00. but by 7:00 in the evening, it's more widespread light rain south of the golden gates. what you want to know, too, this system will have a hard time getting to the north bay. so there may be a fine line of who sees the rain and who does not. continues through saturday morning. by 8:00 in the morning, some light rain around the heart of the bay area. and then the system quickly wraps up. so saturday afternoon, could have an isolated shower, but it won't be widespread. you take a look at future rainfall, there is a definitive
