>> it's sunday, april soth. thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen, sitting in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, chris. this is a 1 on the storm impact scale. about a tenth of an inch. and rain fell pretty much while you were sleeping unless you were up early. we saw the area of low pressure coming in from southern california. rain will taper off from north to south. but santa cruz and pescadero, wet weather. things have cleared out in the south bay. the check out san leandro, and along the coast from half moon bay it is wet. but the few showers into oakland.

danville, 680 and walnut creek we have the shower activity. in the north bay, along the coast, this is far north into napa and st. helena where we have some height activity. overall look at the next couple of hours. things begin to taper off. a giants game, a cloudy afternoon ahead. less shower activity throughout the day but not totally gone. i will explain coming up. >> lisa, thank you. the ongoing rain has oversaturated soil across the bay area. yesterday this oak tree fell, taking out powerlines in mill valley. crews had to shut down the road as they removed the tree n lafayette, another tree came down. hundreds of customers didn't have power last night. and at this high school in mill valley the rain didn't slow down this soccer match. parents said a little wet weather isn't enough to keep their kids off the field. >> this isn't much rain, we've played in much worse. >> i enjoy the rain, actually.

it's nice for a change. >> fans outside at&t park also weren't deterred by some light rain. some fans were ready with their umbrellas, others wore ponchos. the giants play again this afternoon. with more rain coming, be sure to download the abc news app to track the weather where you live. breaking news. former nfl star will smith is being remembered after being shot in an apparent road rage incident last night. this morning the suspect is charged with second degree murder after police say he killed the defensive end on the streets of new orleans. michelle was also shot. a rummer rear-ended his mercedes. the two drivers exchanged words and that's what the driver of the hummer pulled out a gun and smith's wife crying out as paramedics carried her away, also shot twice in the lig. police say a hummer hit his s.u.v. and the stew drivers began arguing. >> a male down with about six

gunshot wounds to the west. >> he was at the scene of the shooting shortly after the incident. >> according to police smith was driving and he was struck from behind by another vehicle. two drivers exchanged words and at some point smith was shot multiple times and he was pronounced dead at the scene. >> the alleged gunman, this man seen here, as he was taken into custody. hours earlier smith posting this selfie of him with his wife at the new orleans french quarter fest writing "having a blast." he was member of are the 2009 saints team that brought thezy their first championship. they tweeted our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. new this morning smith's family releasing this statement on his facebook page. we are thank full for the outparring of support and prayers. we ask that you continue to respect the family's privacy as they grief the loss of a devoted

husband, father and friend abc news, new york. >> back here in the bay area we are following developing news out of san francisco where police are looking for a missing two-year-old girl. this is arianna fitts. she was reportedly missing tuesday along with her mother nicole. nicole's sister said she was last seep the night of april 1st at 8:00 p.m. the last text message they received said she was in fresno with a friend named sam but her body was found friday. police believe arianna is at risk because of her age and suspected foul play. >> the daughter was last seen in late february. the mother was last seen on april 1st and they were both reported missing on april 5th. on the 8th we located nicole. she was a victim of a homicide. >> police did not say where her body was found but said she has ties to the bay area, fresno and southern california new video of a crash that

killed five people that happened last night around 5:30 on highway 12 about two miles east of highway 160. -- 1 s.u.v. near rio vista. tomb of the victims were toddlers. chp officers say they and three adults died when their car started to pass another car, went out of control and was hit by a pickup truck. the four people in the pickup suffered minor injuries. president barack obama wrapped up a quick trip to the bay area yesterday. he's back in washington, d.c. but before leaving he got in a little golf at san francisco's olympic club. new video shows him on the greens there. alyssa harrington has more about the president's 24 hour visit. >> president barack obama ran up the steps to air force 1 and waved good-bye, ending a short visit to the bay area. across the water in milbrae, norman graph took pictures of the departure. >> everything shuts down, no planes in the area. everything is ramp hold.

and then we see the s.u.v.s come up, he gets in and takes off. >> the president flew into san francisco with his daughter, malia. the white house won't tell us how she spent her time there but social media lit up with sightings at stanford. she graduates from high school this year. >> the president was in town for a quick 24-hour trip. the visit jam-packed with fundraising events for the democratic party. and later a fundraising event in pacific heights. a lavish event. tickets were more than $33,000. a crowd cheered as the motorcade traveled down billionaire's row. at the dinner the president blasted the republicans for blocking his supreme court pick. streets were closed around his hotel, the intercontinental, and before leaving town president obama took in a soggy round of golf at the olympic club. san francisco, abc7 news. san francisco police are planning to re-interview some of

the witnesses to last week's deadly police shooting of a homeless man. abc7 news was at 19th and shock row yesterday where some of the neighbors were moved to a homeless shelters. public works tells mission local the overnight move was motivated by the rain and space opening up at the shelter, but not the shooting. >> get on the ground! [gunshots] surveillance video shows the moment police officers shot him thursday morning. police had released a photo of a large kitchen knife they say he was carrying. at least one witness said the knife was on the ground at the time of the shooting. an advisory for bart passengers. there will be no train service this weekend between the san leandro and bayfair station. it's the second of six weekend closers. bart crews are repairing equipment and tracks. however, bart is running a bus

bridge for passengers, but that could lead to delays . >> the chase for number 73 continues on. the warriors hung on against the grizzlies in memphis last night for win number 71. the dubs trailed by as many as 10 points in the last quarter but fought back to beat the grizzlies 100-99. their second of back-to-back games is tonight against the spurs. that would tie the '95-96 chicago bulls regular season record. tip-off at at&t center is at 4:00 p.m. our time. mike shumann will have last night's highlights a little later in sports. of. >> developing news this morning a magnitude 6 .6 earthquake in pakistan's capital and other cities across the country. it happened just before 3:30 our time. the witnesses say the quake shook homes and office buildings. so far no reports of injury or damage. more developing news in india, more than 100 people were killed in a massive fire that broke out in a temple at 3:15 local time. at least 200 others have been injured. the fire started when the spark from an unauthorized fireworks show ignited. the explosion trapped hundreds of others inside. it holds a competitive fireworks display every year but this year officials denied granting

permission. rescuers are sifting through the debris for any survivors. new this morning, spacex made their delivery to the international space station with the first april flightable room for astronauts. it arrived two days after launching from cape canaveral, florida. the room won't be inflated until next month. it's their first delivery for n.a.s.a. in more than a year. a launch accident last june put the shipments on hold. romance can be a little rocky sometimes. this man proposed on a 600-foot rock, but then he had to be rescued. we tell you that guy's side of the story.

>> meet 27-year-old michael banks and his puppy, moses. banks wanted on extra special backdrop when he proposed to his girlfriend so he climbed the morrow rock early thursday. he turned on the videorecorder. >> you see this rock. this rock i would love to put on your finger. if i could buy a diamond this size, i would, because that's what you are worth to me. ultimately, i will never let that go, so will you marry me? >> the problem was, climbing the rock was illegal. that's what he found out when firefighters and the rescue helicopter descended on him. >> i shouted out to the firemen, i said is there a because you guys are rolling in by the numbers right by the numbers right now, and i don't understand what's going on. >> the chopper eventually lifted him off the rock and put him on the ground where he was cited for misdemeanor trespassing. later banks spent the night in jail for being under the influence of methamphetamine. he said it's medicine he was prescribed by a v.a. doctor. in addition to the trespassing fine, emergency responders plan to bill him thousands of dollars for the rescue. but there is one piece of good news. >> she said yes.

may is when the families can move in. to find out how you can donate we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. a bay area man is running 100 miles to celebrate the amazing transformation he's made to his body. jake mcclusky of san jose has lost 102 pounds. -- 180 pounds in two years. he expects to arrive there this afternoon. abc7 news was in novato to talk to mccluskey about his journey. >> start small. little things definitely will add up. just start with just walking around the block, but just go out and get active, find something you like to do and just do it. >> the run is not just for mccluskey, it's also for charity. last year he ran from san francisco to san jose raising $18,000 for the silicon valley children's fund.

9:18 is the time. hopefully some dry weather? >> very impressive. we are going to be getting some dry weather. by the scattered showers are going to linger around parts of the bay area through the early afternoon. but they will be more widely scattered. our storm impact scale rating this system a 1. it's the same one we were dealing with yesterday. a couple hundredths to a tenth of an inch. for those who have had the steady rain this morning, up to a third of an inch of additional rain. here's where we started to with the area of low pressure. the northwesterly flow pivoting around this system here. but there's another one that may keep some of the showers going around san jose throughout the second half of the day. for the most part things have been winding down. you see some showers, and also around morgan hill and in and around san jose things have dried up a little bit. but milpitas still looking at a little bit of wet weather for you, out toward 680.

and we head north around san ramon, diablo here and into pleasant hill. 580 and 680. san francisco right now is dry and in the north bay more scattered showers. napa, sonoma and even napa picked up nearly a half-inch yesterday or santa rosa about .. but out toward the east bay, concord, livermore, picking up three quarters of an inch of rain. this is a foggy, misty mt. tam. 56 in mountain view with mid-50s morgan hill. and half man buy. we have somewhat a few in san jose. and 55 novato, fairfield and cop cord. livermore 54. mid-350's in napa and santa rosa. pretty nice shot, isn't it? we had bursts of snow yesterday in the sierra nevada. but today 50s and looking at

showers. the rain and water content of the snowpack and pretty high and that is good news. we are looking at more showers this morning, and then by the afternoon they begin to become more widely scattered. wednesday night into thursday our next opportunity for rain. but this system coming in from the north. so i don't think it will be as moist. looks like most of the activity continues to wind down through 11:00, 12:00. then 2:00 still showers. san jose, gilroy, cupertino. but by the afternoon we are basically left with the cloudy skies. rainfall amounts from this morning through late tonight, still about a third of an inch in oakland. about that, and a little more san carlos, mountain view and san jose along the coast. but just about one to .2 up in the north bay. we will be looking at maybe a slight chance after shower tonight in the south bay. that could linger right on through tomorrow. we are dry on tuesday and then here comes the next opportunity

wednesday and thursday. then by the end of the work week not only are we dry, but we are warming up. looks like we will be rain-free. we had the delay yesterday. still a few showers before we get to 1:00. but at that point it looks like most of the activity sinks to the south. some scattered showers the first half of your day, then 63 in fremont and san jose. the seven-day forecast, a little storm system winding down. namely showers from the morning. and them another chance of rain come plates wednesday into thursday. that's more for thursday morning's commute could be a little soggy, then are back to the 70s. pretty nice to be in and out of the rain i think. >> keeping it positive, at least the weekend wasn't a total watchout. you have sunday afternoon to enjoy. >> yes. >> thank you. ahead, buried under junk mail is a problem for many but

mailings and now he's inundated with simple advertisements, along with scams and schemes, and he just wants it to stop. the postal spokesperson for the bay area, he says steven has a way out, but there's a catch. >> he can go to dma.org, direct mail association. he can go online and go to their mail preference service and he can opt out of getting any advertising mail. but bear in mind, not all advertisers belong to the dma. >> and scammers don't belong and don't stop mailing just because you ask. >> oh, boy, this really illustrates the danger of responding to any suspicious offer because once you do, if it is a scammer, they will share your information with other scammers and you wind up on what is called a sucker list. >> there isn't much you can do when you are on a sucker list other than stop responding and

about good morning. april showers continue to playing much of the bay area. about a ten together a third of an inch. additional rainfall forecasted for much of the morning hours and a little bit into the afternoon. a couple areas of low pressure rotating to the south of us. and that is bringing us on the back side of this system. and the rainfall from santa cruz to monterey and also the south bay, the coast. you see pescadero, half moon bay. becoming more scattered from sunnyvale and cupertino. wet pavement south of milpitas and on to the peninsula and wet weather all around 280 there. take it easy. dublin, san ramon and pleasanton looking at still some shower activity. in the north bay it's scattered, as well. from mount st. helena to vacaville. 80 fire field. and marin county not too much but rainfall totals the past 24 hours continue to be impressive from a third of an inch in redwood city, half-inch

>> authorities say abrina's dna was found in brussels apartment, a bomb factory, from where he and the other attackers left from the airport. new audio released believes to be of one of the men calling for a taxi. abrini has now been charged with belgium with drift murder and participation in a drift group. the same charges for this man, a 28-year-old swedish national who authorities say was at the malbaek metro station with the suicide bomber. his family in swede he shocked. all of a sudden he just disappeared, his aunt said. known in the family new. abc news, brussels. >> and again, that was at abc news reporter alex marquart reporting. european authorities are connecting with anyone connected

with the brussels and is other attacks. all the suspect involved in attacks are now either dead or arrested. new york is the next big stop on the presidential campaign trail. in nine days nearly 100 republican delegates and 300 democrat delegates are up for grabs. ted cruz and bernie sanders are fighting for every last delegate. abc news reporter elizabeth herr has the story. >> reporter: the two taking the fight to the frontrunners. ted cruz and bernie sanders said they will compete all the way to the convention floor. >> all right, news almúk/hut just won wyoming! >> bernie sanders late saturday declared the winner of the wyoming caucus. the vermont senator now claiming victory over hillary clinton in seven of the last eight states. with the new york primary just a week away, sanders is closing the gap with clinton on pledged delegates, although clinton is

>> janet jackson fans who bought tour for their world tour reportedly can't get their money back. she had more than 50 shows scheduled, including next month at the concord pavilion. she announced wednesday she would put the tour on hold indefinitely to start a family. ticketmaster is not giving refunds because she has not officially cancelled her tour, just postponed t it's unclear when she will reschedule her tours. she already delayed them once because of a surge cal procedure. a man got the shock of his life when he saw men sneaking around his home. he then made a call to the police. the high-tech device is making the difference. >> no, these men are not dropping by this boston home, they are breaking in. watch as the burglars wasted no time casing the house, making their way from room to room and inspecting their inventory.

in sports, the warriors chase at nba history resumes later today in san antonio. golden state faces the spurs at 4:00 p.m. san antonio is just two wins away from becoming the first nba team to ever go 41-0 at home. last night the warriors won their 71st game with a thrilling come back against the grizzlies. abc7 sports anchor mike shumann has the highlights in this morning's sports report. >> well, the warriors with a must-win last night in memphis to have a shot at the regular season record held by th'95-96 bulls of 72 games. they stole a victory. now at 71 wins with two to play. before the game steph curry practicing his putting. his boy, jordan speith, leading the masters. and bogut getting rest yesterday.

the points. dubs up 3 at the half. third quarter steph, 150th consecutive game. he and klay, 5 of 24 from three point land. grizzlies go on an 11-0 run in the third. warriors trail by as many as 10 in the fourth. draymond, the lay-up and foul. he had 23. the first shot of the quarter, harrison barns hits the three. less than 1:40 left. warriors up one. 8 seconds left. grizzlies down one. he drives and misses, gets it back, tries the desperation heave. and warriors escaped memphis. they are now 71-9. >> we had our own play, and the run they made in the second half was one you -- there's still time left on the clock and this game meant a lot to us. it's a big win. >> and klay doesn't need to come in for us and score. we need to come in and get

stops. we do that and we will score. we need to stick with it and pick up our intensity level up. it was garbage to that points. >> sharks and coyotes at the tank. and my producer scott weren't here, he would be at the game dressed like that. one goal a kim on the five-on-three in the third. and captain joe pavelski with his 38th of the year. sharks win it 1-0. they will face the kings or the ducks in the first round. the playoffs. giants look for their third straight win over the dodgers with madison bumgarner facing clayton kershaw. giants announced a new contract for brandon belt. it kickstarts in 2017. job security a big plus for athletes. satisfy a nearly 41-minute rain delay, they are ready to roll. bottom of two, no score. madison rakes one off kershaw. tied for the active lead among pitchers. kershaw can't believe it, but the dodgers end up winning in extra innings, 3-2. that series finale is set for this afternoon.

lisa is here with the accuweather forecast. >> the scattered showers don't want to leave the east bay, peninsula. here's a look at the storm impact scale. a couple of 1s visiting us, meaning a light system and a tenth to a third of an inch of a additional rain is expected before it departs. the same one that had us in the rain yesterday. you can see the circulation over southern california. another piece of energy l. add to that today, keeping the showers going for parts of the bay into the afternoon. so check out 2830, san jose and up toward fremont. that's where we have the activity. but right now from morgan hill, highway 101, and the santa cruz mountains, highway 82 looking wet. a closer inspection here of campbell and saratoga, looking at the wet weather. very light rain to you. but to the north around union city, we've got rain for you still from hayward and out

toward 680, 580, dublin you have been wet just about all morning long. it's still with you. and further west we are looking at bell hospital and san carlos with showers holding together around 280. up to the north you haven't seen as much but still it's wet along the coast, by the delta and in fact highway 80 toward fairfield and napa. just a few light showers. as we look out toward emeryville this morning you can see some breaks out there but certainly is cloudy. we will hold on to the clouds throughout the day today. goodgood morning, san francisco. and 56 with the damp conditions here in the south bay. so not an all-day rain. it's becoming more widely scattered and there will be some sunshine as we get going tomorrow. today, though, 54 in livermore. still showers for you around concord at 56. mid-50s santa rosa and napa. yesterday the steady, light rain and this morning the penins lay is in and out of the light the

shower activity. so showers this morning lingering into a portion of the afternoon in the south bay and peninsula. otherwise it will become partly cloudy tomorrow. a slight chance of showers tuesday into wednesday and wednesday night into thursday. next system comes out of north. this has been certainly unusual. a couple systems very slow to move out, encompassing the entire state from southern california to the central coast. but by the next hour or so you will still notice the smattering of showers. then wither into the noon hour 1:00, 2:00, about we still have showers in the south bay around gilroy. even along the coast. so keep that in mind. you are headed to the game this afternoon, looks like we will have dry skies. but how much rain from this morning to tonight? we are adding up about a couple hundredths and then you see what is left. not very much. between early this morning and late together tonight there's one to two-tenths. look for tomorrow a renewed
