by a procefessor. two graduate students reported blake wentworth last year for sexual harassment. an investigation found he did violate the school's policy but the students say he hasn't been disciplined and is still teaching. they're holding a news conference today with their attorneys to discuss the complaints. this morning, another three-way shooting near rich owned at interstate 80. officers shut down some of the eastbound lanes as they investigated. no word yet on if anyone was hurt or if anyone was arrested. this is the 17th freeway shooting in the east bay just since november. a man accused of attempted murder by running over a chp motorcycle officer is expected in court today. overall michael ericsson grew up here in san rafael. he is still in intensive care at uc davis medical center. the chp veteran stopped to help

a driver in the median of as best 80 last thursday. chp said the driver, austin scott, intentionally hit him. the short chase ended in fairfield with an arrest. a missing two-year-old sources tell abc 7 news that the body found in mclaren park was her mother. abc 7 has more now on the search for this woman's daughter. >> i want answers to what's happened to my sister and my niece. >> reporter: grief and wory consuming these family members who are desperate to find their 2-year-old niece, arianna, now missing. >> we're hopeful we'll find our niece alive. >> reporter: police say arianna fitts hasn't been seen in public since february. her mother, nicole fitts, was

last seen april 1st and reported missing april 5th. tragically, abc 7 news has learned nicole was found dead on friday in san francisco's mclaren park, the victim of a homicide. the family says nicole had no enemies. they say she was living in san francisco and was working at this best buy store on harrison street. >> i can't imagine any reason why she would have any enemies or anyone would ever want to hurt her. she just did nothing but give. >> reporter: but where is arianna? >> i really don't know. >> reporter: a little girl with a big smile. >> always, always bubbly and laughing. >> there is foul play suspected. we need to make sure the public can help us in finding arianna as soon as possible. recorders whi . >> reporter: the family has started this facebook page spreading the word. >> if you have seen her, please call someone. >> reporter: this family praying for answers and hoping for good news. in san francisco, cornell bernard, abc 7 news.

happening today, a major change for families here in california. governor jerry brown is set to sign legislation increasing paid leave for people to bond with their newborn or take care of a sick relative. now workers could get as much as 70% of their income for as long as six weeks. last week san francisco became the first city in the u.s. to approve six weeks of fully-paid leave for new parents. tonight, the san mateo city council will hold a special meeting to discuss a plan aimed at helping middle and lower class renters who are facing high rent. under the plan, landlords who raise rents by more than 10% in a year could be required to pay up to help people relocate to someplace less expensive to live. this move to help renters come less than a week after city councilmembers voted down an ordinance that would have imposed a 90-day moratorium on rent hikes. commuters are being urged to keep a close watch on a sign on highway 101 that was defaced by

getting back to the breaking news in san bruno. >> police are looking for a hit and run driver after a deadly crash there. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is gathering information from the scene at skyline boulevard. >> reporter: here at skyline boulevard, there are two police cars here from san brauno poli department blocking traffic in both directions. they didn't have a lot of information. but they told me this is a fatal hit and run crash. a pedestrian was killed. i'll have my photographer ian show you exactly where this is taking place, probably a half

secretary of state john kerry is in hiroshima, japan this morning. he laid a wreath at the memorial to honor the japanese killed and the u.s. dropped the atomic bomb in 1945. despite what some expected, a u.s. official said secretary kerry did not go there to apologize for america's decision to use the atomic bomb. he's one of the highest ranked u.s. officials to visit. nancy pelosi visited in 2008

when she was speaker of the house. two bay area schools are taking action after finding high lead readings in their water. the recent crisis in flint, michigan prompted the analysis. the associated press look at epa data and found that nearly 1400 water systems nationwide reported high lead levels, including dozens in california. here at abc 7 news, we dug into the bay area data and found no large water systems were over the limit, but two bay area schools were concerning. lakeside elementary in los gatos found satisfied in sinks not normally used for drinking water. the school says it's now taking precautions. twin hills school recorded high lead in a staff room sink. that was closed. if you want to look up the water supply in your finishneighborho child school, go to our home page, abc7news.com. we show you a photo of a

fiery wreckage in upstate new york. it experienced engine problems. en route back to the airport, the single engine plane clipped several trees and crashed. as awful as it looks, the pilot and passenger on board, while hurt, are expected to be okay. federal authorities are still investigating. here in the bay area, two people walked away with no injuries after a close call on board a plane at oakland international. oakland fire live tweeted these pictures yesterday, as a private jet made a close landing. it belongs to an aviation company based in burlingame. the search is on for the first toy dog to reach the edge of space. this video is all over social media. young students at a london school tied sam here to a helium balloon along with a go pro camera and a gps tracker. the camera and the tracker made it back to earth but no sign of
