new details just in on the breaking news we're following out of san bruno. police are investigating a fatal hit and run on skyline boulevard. this is not far from skyline college. >> san bruno police told us they expect south skyline to be closed at college avenue for the next three or four hours. >> northbound traffic should open in about an hour. if you use that route, you're advised to avoid that area and find another way to get around. >> police are still looking for the driver who hit a pedestrian there just about 3:00 a.m. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live on the scene and we'll have an update at 6:30. i'm natasha zouves. >> i'm reggie aqui. sue hall, we're looking at two different hit and runs that both ended up with a person dead. >> unfortunately, yes. the first on skyline boulevard,

"the chronicle" also reports the costs on the project have soared to $360 million in the last two years. new details this morning about a shooting near san jose state university. it is now being investigated as a homicide. police say the victim died this weekend from the gunshot wound he suffered in last thursday night's gunfire at east william and 10th street. the gunman is still on the loose this morning. police are asking witnesses to come forward. fairfield police recovered this gun five years after it was stolen from a northern california home. officers found the gun hidden in a secret compartment in a car after a traffic stop led to a chase saturday night. the 20-year-old driver of the car, paul perkins, was arrested on several charges including evading police and driving on a

developing news out of india. police say at least ten people associated with a deadly fireworks fire are now on the run. this morning, rescue crews are sifting through what's left of a hindu temple. at least 110 people died when an unauthorized fireworks show ignited a separate batch of fireworks that were stored at the temple. the temple was packed with thousands who gathered for a religious festival. more than 500 got hurt. police have already detained five people who are thought to be responsible. new this morning, a senior north korean military officer is defecting to south korea. the officer has not been named, but the defense ministry in seoul said he left last year. there have been some reports of

lower level north koreans defecting but it's very unusual for a colonel to do this. happening today, a major protest inside the north carolina state capital. demonstrators are planning a sit-in over the state's controversial religious freedom law. the governor claims it's aimed at protecting people whose religious believes contradict local laws protecting the lgbt community. protesters say it allows for discrimination. nba player charles barkley is calling for the nba to take a stand. >> i'm supposed to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. i think the nba should move the all-star game from charlotte. >> that game alone with worth $100 million. bruce springsteen has cancelled his concert.

the nyaa says they plan to protest. >> bryan adams is following in springsteen's steps, cancelling his concert over the mississippi law. he says people are being denied silver rights due to their sexual orientation. he's pushing for other artists to follow suit. the state transportation committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on the use of disability placards. the bill would force the dmv to proactively retrieve expired parking placards. the legislation would also allow cities to charge motorists displaying placards for the costs of parking. new video of a kayak rescue off a south carolina island. two men went kayaking saturday and were supposed to be back before sunset. a friend notified the coast guard that they had not returned. crews rescued one of the two men, a 21-year-old. they're still looking for the other kayaker this morning.

a busy thoroughfare on the peninsula is closed as police investigate a deadly crash. i'm reggie aqui. i'm reggie aqui. >> i'm >> abc 7's matt keller has more. >> reporter: we're told the northbound lanes will be opening up in the next ten to 15 minutes. the southbound lanes will be blocked for at least a few more hours. this investigation started when san bruno police received a call of a pedestrian being injured at about 1:30 this morning. when they arrived on skyline boulevard they found the victim, only identified as a male. he died at the scene. the driver of the vehicle took off. detectives are now following up on some leads.

win number 72. we would like to thank our instagram user for sharing this picture of his daughter. happening today, two uc berkeley graduate students are demanding answers. they say they were sexually harassed last year and say he is still teaching at the university. they reported professor blake wentworth for sexual harassment. the paper claims a university investigation found that wentworth did violate the sexual harassment policy in october. but they say he has not been disciplined and is still teaching. they're holding a new conference with their attorneys today at 11:30 at cal. chp investigates yet another freeway shooting in the east bay, this one at richmond, interstate 80. officers shut down some of the eastbound lanes as they

investigated. we don't know if anyone was hurt or arrested. this is the 17th freeway shooting in the east bay, just since november. the man accused of attempted murder by running over a chp motorcycle officer is expected in court today. officer michael ericsson grew up here in san he stopped to help the driver of a pickup truck in the median of interstate 80 in sacramento last thursday. chp says the driver, austin scott, intentionally hit officer ericsson. police arrested scott in another stolen pickup truck after a short chase that ended in fairfield. san francisco police are still looking for arianna fitts. that's the missing 2-year-old girl. sources tell abc 7 news a body found in mclaren park on friday was her mother, nicole fitts. nicole was last seen april 5th. police say she was the victim of a homicide. officers have not said how she was killed. her family says they don't know

anyone who would have wanted to hurt nicole. she was living in san francisco and worked in a best buy store on harrison street. family members want to know what happened to nicole and are desperate to find arianna. there's a picture of her right there. >> i can't imagine why she would have any enemies. she is just did nothing but give. >> the family has started a facebook page to spread the word about arianna. happening today, a major change for families here in california. governor jerry brown is set to sign legislation increasing paid leave for people to bond with their newborns or take care of sick relatives. now these workers could get as much as 70% of their income for as long as six weeks. last week, san francisco became the first city in the u.s. to approve six weeks of fully-paid leave for new parents. tonight the san mateo city council will hold a special hearing to discuss a plan to help middle and lower class

secretary of state john kerry is in hiroshima, japan this morning. he laid a wreath that honored 140,000 japanese who were killed when the u.s. dropped the atomic bomb in 1945. a u.s. official says secretary kerry did not go there to apologize for america's decision to use the atomic bomb. kerry is among the highest ranking u.s. officials to visit. in accordan nancy pelosi was there in 2008 when she was speaker in the
