trump called the colorado convention last weekends where cruz was awarded all the delegates unfair. saying it was stacked against his campaign. he added he doesn't think the rnc wants him to get the nomination. dominating the town hall were stories from his four children who called trump a great father, their role model and someone who treats women and men equal. on who tweets, trump said during the day when he's in the office, he'll shout a tweet to one of the young ladies ho works for him. at night he tweets himself. when eric and ivanka trump were asked why they can't vote for their father on tuesday, ivanka blamed it on her being an independent and new york's registration rules for the primary. >> well, i knew that ivanka was independent and i was fine with it and i understand why she is. you know, it's hard to be thrilled with what's going on in politics, either party. if you look at what's going on. and she was an independent. she's going to switch over to be a republican i guess at some point and perhaps she wants to see what's going on. but i have a feeling she'll be voting in november for me. >> reporter: in terms of the way

taking on donald trump and bernie sanders. clinton is still hitting sanders on gun control telling voters that weak gun laws in sanders' home state of vermont clear the way for many guns to end up here in new york as thousands of supporters turn out to see him in new york, he is continuing to hammer clinton about releasing transcripts from her paid wall street speeches. in ohio, police officer wounded in a weekend shooting has passed away. officer steven smith was a 27-year veteran of the force in columbus. authorities say a suspect shot smith and head police at bay for several hours on sunday. that suspect is in custody this morning. this was the second time smith was shot in the line of duty. an ex-con is being held on $2 million bail in connection with the gruesome murder of a seattle area woman. family and friends of ingrid lin gathered last night at a church to mourn her death and pray for her surviving daughters. abc's lauren lyster has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: after this seattle mother of three went missing late last week, now a suspect in custody.

37-year-old john charlton arrested in the homicide investigation. appearing in court tuesday, where a judge set bail at $2 million. they follows a gruesome discovery saturday. body parts found in a homeowner's curbside recycling bin. >> all the evidence leads in the direction of that particular victim. >> reporter: authorities saying the remains likely belonging to 40-year-old ingrid lin. she disappeared friday. lin's friends telling authorities she had planned to go on a date that night with someone she met online, heading to a mariners game according to news reports. friends soon realizing something wasn't right. >> saturday, when she didn't pick up her kids, that something was very wrong. >> reporter: neighbors responding. >> the first the telephone was in the house. call, call, no ingrid. >> a pretty quiet neighborhood. quite cul-de-sac. so it was a little weird. >> reporter: after seeing the seattle crime scene the site

where human remains were found in the news, friends' worst fears soon confirmed. >> devastating. sick, wrong. >> reporter: authorities say the suspect has a criminal history in six states including convictions for assault and robbery. no murders on his record. friends tuesday telling abc's seattle station the victim ingrid lin had been dating the suspected killer for six weeks and didn't see any red flags. kendis and diane. >> thank you. the so-called after lew enza teen is due to make his first appearance in adult court today. ethan couch turned 19 on sunday. his case moved out of the juvenile system. in 2013, couch was driving drunk when he crashed killing four people. he was given probation but fled to mexico. meanwhile, we're learning new details about his court ordered rehab treatment in 2014. taxpayers apparently covered most of the $200,000 bill because his parents could not afford it. in massachusetts, the wife of bill cosby has been ordered to continue with the deposition

in the defamation lawsuit. it was filed by seven women accusing cosby of assaulting them decades ago. camille cosby wanted to end the proceedings because she found the first one outrageous and improper in her words. the judge did limit the types of questions. students won't be playing much basketball at a los angeles high school anytime soon. that's because the courts there have collapsed. the gaping hole is what's left of a retention basin designed to collect storm water so that it could soak into the aquifer instead of pouring out into the street. the hole is about eight feet deep. this morning, the clean-up continues after a monster hailstorm in northern texas that had families huddling together fearing for their lives. abc's phillip mena shows us the incredible images. >> oh, my gosh! >> reporter: terrifying storms blasting up to softball-sized hail. families running for cover outside dallas. >> get in there. find the cat. >> reporter: donna ruth cole getting her son to safety as giant hailstones shatter windows. >> i was a little bit worried, but i didn't have any clue it

in mogadishu. at least five people were killed in this incident including children. there's word of more air strikes against isis in iraq and syria by the u.s. as well as its allies. the coalition says its bombing runs hit islamic state tactical units, fighting positions and more. eventually the coalition will try to retake the iraqi city of mosul. the u.s. military is also dropping so-called cyber bombs on islamic state to increase the pressure on the i will mants. the governor of north carolina is taking action to address concerns over a state law some are calling the most anti-lgbt bill in the country. his new order extends to states equal opportunity employment policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity and says private companies can establish their own bathroom and locker room policies. >> we're also a state that strives to allow our people and businesses to be as independent as possible without overreaching government regulations. >> still the order does not address the most controversial

part of the law, which requires individuals use public bathrooms that correspond with their gender at birth. this morning there's a new twist in the death of former football star will smith. new orleans police say they found a fully loaded gun inside his vehicle. however, there was no evidence it had been fired. smith and his wife were shot in a road rage incident saturday night. louisiana law allows someone to claim self-defense if they feel threatened. meanwhile, there will be a parade in new orleans honoring smith this evening. in texas a panel is urging sweeping reform in a jail where a young woman was found dead. sandra bland was found dead three days after being arrested after a routine traffic stop in july. the panel's recommendation includes how inmates are treated for medical and mental health issues. bland's death was ruled a suicide but sparked protests and questions about the conditions in the small jail outside houston. and in chicago, a task force is recommending that the police department acknowledge a history of racism. it also calls for overhauling the handling of excessive force complaints. the panel was formed after video showed a white police officer

shooting a 17-year-old black male. the report condemns the police department and its oversight agency. turning our focus now to the new efforts in the battle against the zika virus. the house passed a bill offering incentives to companies working on drugs to treat the virus. but a vaccine could still be several months away. here's abc's steve osunsami. >> reporter: authorities at the cdc tell us they're worried about what's happening in puerto rico. they believe hundreds of infants like these, with smaller brains, will need life-long care could soon be born to infected mothers every day they learn something new and it's not good. besides birth defects and smaller heads, babies are being born premature and blind. health officials are racing to prevent an outbreak here in the u.s., working with states like florida on mosquito control, and warning travelers to cover up. and pressuring congress to release $1.9 billion in emergency money that the president requested in february. >> we're in a situation with a lot of unknowns. there really isn't any time to spare. >> reporter: and it's not just

saying in a statement, the loaded handgun in nfl star will smith's car was a.9 millimeter which had not been fired. police also saying they found a loaded gun in hayes' car, in addition to the one they say he used to gun down smith. that new video obtained by abc news may help clear up the murky details surrounding the deadly shooting of former nfl star will smith. this surveillance footage provided by a restaurant two blocks from the shooting captured just minutes before gunfire erupted. a car matching the description of smith's suv rear-ends a hummer resembling the vehicle of the alleged gunman, cardell hayes. then, as the hummer appears to pull over, the suv speeds off. seconds later, the hummer appears to follow. hayes' lawyer saying his client was not the instigator of the road rage incident. >> my client trailed behind this person in an effort to get their license plate number. my client also called 911. >> reporter: hayes' attorney claims it was during that 911 call when the accident occurred. police say an argument ensued,

and that hayes then shot smith in the back and torso. now behind bars, hayes' defense suggesting someone else was posing the threat. are you saying that your client felt threatened by the presence of something smith had or someone in his party had? >> everybody out there felt threatened. >> reporter: by smith? >> by someone other than mr. hayes. >> reporter: we called the police department about the new video. they have not commented. fans remembering smith with this memorial. as for hayes, if convicted of second-degree murder, he faces life in prison. ryan smith, abc news, new orleans, louisiana. turning now to politics and a resounding no from house speaker paul ryan as the republican inches closer to what may be a contested convention. ryan is ruling out a white house run. speculation escalated last week when he posted a video that some say looked like a campaign ad. but ryan is now making it clear that he will not accept the republican nomination in 2016. >> if no candidate has a

majority on the first ballot, i believe that you should only choose from a person who has actually participated in the primary. count me out. >> okay. so if this sounds familiar because it is. ryan also said that he did not want to be house speaker, but ended up taking that job. he says this is different, like apples and oranges. ted cruz is firing back at donald trump with some of his harshest rhetoric to date. cruz blasted trump as a bully comparing him to the godfather and union thugs. he also accused him of using dirty tricks, inciting violence and intimidating voters and delegates. cruz told glenn beck saying given how he runs his campaign, it appears he can't run a lemonade stand. but trump is doubling down on his complaints against the delegate selection process. he made an appearance on cnn last night with his wife and four adult children, saying the gop nominating rules are stacked against him by the establishment. his family praised him as a

great father, husband and leader. and daughter ivanka explained why she and her brother won't get to vote for their own father in the primary. >> new york has one of the most onerous rules in terms of registration and required us to register a long time ago, almost close to a year ago. and we didn't do that. we found out about it. >> when asked about her dad being presidential, ivanka says at times she does advise him to withhold his fire. as for the democrats, hillary clinton is using her latest ad to launch attacks on donald trump and bernie sanders. clinton is still hitting sanders on gun control, telling voters that weak gun laws in sanders' home state of vermont clear the way for many guns to end up in new york. as thousands of supporters turn out in the empire state to see sanders, he's continuing to hammer clinton to release transcripts about her paid speeches on wall street. now to the politically charged battle over gay and transgender rights in north

carolina. the governor taking action following outrage over a new law in the state, but his order leaves the most controversial part of that law unchanged. here's abc's elizabeth hur. >> the people of north carolina are entitled to both privacy and equality. >> reporter: the north carolina governor bowing to pressure on the state's so-called bathroom bill. pat mccrory, issuing an executive order, rolling back portions of the controversial law. >> the private sector can make its own policy with regard to restrooms, locker rooms and or shower facilities. this is not a government decision. >> reporter: but people using facilities in government buildings and schools will still have to use the bathroom according to the gender on their birth certificate. >> i know these actions will not totally satisfy everyone. >> reporter: the change comes after more than 80 businesses asked for the law to be repealed. paypal pulled 400 jobs and a $3.6 million project and bruce springsteen canceled a weekend concert in protest. singer bryan adams canceled a concert in mississippi over a

similar situation there. >> somehow we seem focused on passing a bill that will kill our economy. >> reporter: that new law allows public and private businesses to refuse service on religious grounds to gay and transgender people. and not just wedding venues but adoptions, certain medical services and counseling. >> simply all we're trying to do is say that people of faith have some protection from an overbearing government. >> reporter: the governor defending the law, but a group of lawmakers are now introducing a bill to have it repealed. for now, this new law in mississippi is set to go into effect july 1st. diane and kendis. >> elizabeth, thank you. the southeast is in for another day of unsettled weather. there will be heavy rain and sometimes thunderstorms but no severe weather is in the forecast. flooding, however, is possible with some gulf coast areas getting 2 to 3 inches of rain. and jackson, mississippi, has probably had enough rain. that's what probably caused the
