80s, 30 degrees warmer. liver more already at 60 degrees. chris? >> lisa. thank you. developing news from newark where a busy boulevard at closed at cedar because of a hazmat incident. a gas tanker hit a fire hydrant at around 4:00 this morning. the accident sheered off the hydrant and the gas tanker's supply valve. gas from the tanker has been leaking onto the street. because it's so windy out there this morning, a hazmat team has been called out. surrounding streets are closed as crews work to clean up the spill. we are told that some of the gas has leaked into nearby storm drains. the closures will be in effect for the next two hours. this morning a salvage crew will work to tow a car that plummeted 100 feet off a cliff last night. it happened just before 10:00 p.m. the car went over the hill of grizzly peek near south park

drive south of tildone regional pa park. witnesses say they heard a loud screech and watched the car go off the clip. it cartwheeled down the hillside. >> i was like, whoa, that car is going to roll off the hill and then it rolled off the hill. >> authorities aren't sure where the driver went off the accident or if that person was injured in the wreck. for the second night in a row a police chase ended with an accident. it started yesterday along highway 13 in oakland before 8:00 p.m. chp officers say they tried to pull over a red mercedes sedan for missing license plates from the driver took off. a helicopter followed the car all the way to pittsburgh where police in that city used spike strips to disable the car. the driver ran and

unsuccessfully tried carjacking another car near highway 4. the suspect was arrested by police. democratic front-runner hillary clinton spent last night at a high priced fundraiser with a high profile guest. but the event also attracted protestors. >> reporter: here's a brief grips of george clooney leaving this fundraiser. the event held at venture capital list knob hill home attracted dozens of demonstrators. they were mostly bernie sanders supporters. the vermont senator had called this fundraiser others like it obscene because of the amount of money ponied up by attendees. >> $353,000 is what they're charging to have a seat at the table with hillary clinton as part of this fundraiser. you can't buy a home in san francisco for that amount.

it's incredible. >> reporter: sanders is pushing for a strong showing in california. his campaign just released this ad here. >> let's transform america. >> reporter: sanders touched down in rome for a conference at the vatican and urged people to reject what they call immoral economy. before flying here, clinton celebrated a small victory, playing dominos at a senior center in harlem. clinton will head to los angeles next for another event with george clooney, a fundraiser at his studio city home. abc7 news. hillary clinton and bernie sanders will join abc's george stephanopoulos tomorrow morning for "this week" for a round of tough questions before the new york primary on tuesday. "this week" airs sunday at 8:00 a.m. right here on abc7. it's a question most drivers have after they've dropped their car off at the shop. who's going to drive it and where. a local man says his dash cam

captured a joy ride while his luxury car was in for repairs. at this wheel apparently an auto mechanic. this video is raising a lot of questions. we have the story from the audi dealership in palo alto. the owner of the car, brian thornton says the man behind the wheel is an employee. thornton is accusing the employee of joy riding and speeding. mark noble is a customer at audi palo alto and says he would be very irritated if it were his car. >> spend a lot of money on these cars and the last thing i would expect is somebody taking it out for a joy ride. >> dennis roth had already seen the video. he works on his own audi. >> the question is how the background checks were on their employees. >> reporter: owner pamela pike is skeptical. >> that could have happened but honestly most of the mechanics are pretty well certified and i

think the guy might have made up a little bit of a story. >> reporter: palo alto says in part, we immediately began an investigation. we are working with the customer involved and have thanked them for bringing this mere atter to attention. mark noble is taking his car in next week. i asked him if it has changed his mind. >> probably not but i'll ask about it. breaking news from pittsburgh where firefighters have brought a large gas fueled fire under control. this started at 5:00 a.m. near snowflake way. contra costa firefighters say a broken gas meter at one of the homes kept the fire burning in that home. the flames quickly spread to a neighboring home. it took about an hour for firefighters to bring the fires in both homes under control. seven people have been displaced. the cause is still under investigation. deputies in ma rin evacuated

a campground at dylan beach last night after a fire started in the dunes near. it fires burned about five acres. deputies blocked several roads so firefighters could do their jobs. campers were taken to the beach as a precaution. investigators say the cause is suspicious. witnesses saw people running from the scene. thankfully no one was hurt. the red cross has put up dozens of people in the south bay after an apartment fire there. this is over the twin pines apartment in sunny veil. more than 30 people were evacuated. some had to climb down ladders to get out. firefighters were able to save several pets. sunny veil tweeted this picture. police are looking for two suspects who violently attacked a store clerk. [ shouting ] on march 8, police said two men

ran into sunny's quick stop. the ran in the red bandana assaulted the clerk, then demanded money. after a heated exchange, the man shot the clerk. police say that the clerk should survive. after a big week, the warriors' title run officially kicks off this afternoon on abc7. the preshow starts at noon. abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington is live at oracle arena and has a preview of what promises to be a very big day. good morning. >> reporter: so excite, especially since the ws did so well this season. there's a t-shirt draped over every single seat. that's more than 19,000 shirts and that's for people lucky enough to have a ticket to today's game. they say strength in numbers which as we know is the team's slogan. the game starts at 12:30 against the houston rockets for game one of the post season. as we all know, the warriors have had tremendous success here

inside oracle arena. a couple days ago they beat the bulls' record for the most wins during a regular season. a lot of people thought that record could not be broken but the warriors did it again. steph curry also hit his 400th three-pointer. fans went crazy and warriors' playoff frenzy is now only beginning. we've seen people decked out in team colors, warriors' flags hanging off of cars. fans hope that the team can do it again and take home another championship. i want to come back live here into oracle arena. you can see the large scoreboard has been dropped down. they're making sure that everything is working properly. we've seen crews washing the back boards, washing the court, making sure everything is perfect for today's game. fans are extremely excited. oracle arena is holding a tailgater on the south side of the stadium. you can go there and take part in all the fun here in oakland.

animal dashed off campus before they managed to tranquilize it. they released this picture of the mountain lion back in the wild again. a concord family had a huge scare when an 11-year-old autistic boy disappeared from school. with help from family and friends, there was a happy reunion. >> reporter: an enormous hug for little zachary jordan smith. san francisco police released this photo of a happy ending to a frantic search across the bay. a family reunion made possible by a vigilant woman. >> i said, lord, give me favor right now, clear the freeway so i can get this kid. so when the freeway cleared up, i ran across and i grabbed him. >> reporter: alice carothers spotted him in san francisco trying to cross i-280. zachary traveled all the way from concord, more than 30 miles away. the mood was somber earlier in the afternoon when his parents and police joined volunteers to

search for him after he sneaked out of school in concord. >> i can't imagine if kelly was missing. >> reporter: as the search was about to begin, this call came over the radio. >> stand by. we're on the phone with san francisco pd advising that they found him. >> reporter: mom got to talk is to him on the phone. >> i'm glad you're safe, baby. i'm glad you're safe, okay? >> reporter: it was all thanks to alice. >> i said are you lost? he said i'm lost. i said where do you live. he mentioned a street i never heard of. he said concord. i said how did you get here. he said bus. i said so you're missing. i said i'm going to get you safe and i promise i'll get you to your parents. >> reporter: sergeant lisa springer answered the phone and it just so happens she knew the boy. her own son went to preschool with him. >> the stars aligned today.

to an amc theatre near you. the company dropped the idea after people almost threw popcorn at the screen when they heard the proposal. thursday the company's ceo told variety magazine he was contemplating changing the rules. a former san francisco landmark, play land at the beach, is the inspiration behind a street festival taking place today on balboa street today. the free art and music festival will be held from 2 to 6:00 p.m. 1,000 people are expected to partake in today's event in celebration of the outer richmond neighborhood. there will also be a screening of the documentary, remembering play land, remembering the beach park, until it closed in 1972. >> if you're partaking in that party, 70s in san francisco. at the beach you'll reach about 70 before that sea breeze kicks

are now looking forward to sleeping peacefully and lump free. people in four bay cities have some of the greenest commutes in the entire nation according to the pew research center. they take transit more often instead of driving. daily city, oakland, berkeley and san francisco made the top 50 on the list. the city with the greenest commute in the u.s.? new york city where more than 60% of people take transit to work. workers are putting the finishing touches on a new hospital in one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in san francisco. we're in china town where the ceo of the new hospital gave us a tour of the facility. it's a big upgrade from the old hospital. patients will have their own room, a new mri machine and a meditation room. there are a lot of pictures from the original 1925 hospital to remind people why the hospital

out the upper 70s, the low 80s. we're not done yet. the warming trend continues for a few more days. i'll show it to you coming up. chris? >> lisa, thank you. happening now, pope francis is making a short visit to the greek island of less bows where the heart of europe's refugee crises is being felt. he was greeted by the leader of the greek orthodox church and the prime minister. the holy family was scheduled to visit refugees locked in a detention center during his visit. the vatican says he will bring back 12 syrian refugees, including six children, two italy. the pope has been a vocal advocate on bringing attention and sympathy to migrants. bernie sanders traveled to the vatican to attend a conference on climate change. the pope spent about five minutes with the pope. >> he was on his way to greece.

he was apologetic that he couldn't get to the conference yesterday where we were supposed to meet. he was on his way to greece and we just spent a few minutes together. >> sanders says he's in line with the pope's work to speak on behalf of the poor and to highlight growing global wealth inequality. the death toll in a second earthquake to rock japan within two days is up to at least 19. rescue crews are still searching for any survivors in the rubble. our abc news reporter has the latest. >> reporter: before residents could recover, it happened again. japan rocked by another earthquake saturday morning, the quake devastating the region, land slides swallowing roads and buildings. look at how this highway crumbled. this ground beneath this historic castle collapsed, this bridge snapped in half and transportation at a stand still, the airport damaged and trains derailed. this region first rocked by a 6.3 magnitude before saturday's

7.3 level quake. >> stay in a safe place until the tremor is felt. >> reporter: concrete was crushing cars and firefighters battled blazes at burning structures. >> 20% of all medium to large scale earthquakes on the earth take place in japan. that's because japan sits on the juncture of three earthquake faults. >> reporter: nearly 70,000 have fled their homes. emergency crews evacuating patients from this hospital, fearing it could collapse. a race against time for rescuers searching for hundreds reportedly trapped underneath the debris, tirelessly combing through leveled buildings, including this college dormitory with students stuck inside. a light of hope in the destruction, crews miraculously saving this baby girl buried beneath the rubble. take a look at this car that's hanging over a ledge in japan. the damage from the two

earthquakes caused part of this parking lot to crumble. the u.s. army has approved 22 women to combat positions. they will be allowed to serve as second lieutenants. 13 are approved to become officer and nine for the infantry. this comes after ash carter announced in december the military had to strike down gender barriers. to the growing outrage after a video was released showing two adults preparing to paddle a 5-year-old child in georgia where it's actually legal just as it is in 18 other states. steve 0 sun sammy with the video and the debate. >> you're going to get a spanking. >> reporter: what you're about to see in a public grade school is perfectly legal. the 5-year-old's mother gave her consent to school officials to paddle her son after they say the boy fought with her children and then spat on a teacher.

>> help me! >> reporter: for many parents who z seen it it's deeply disturbing and for many others says it's fine. the mother felt pressured after more than three weeks of unexcused absence. >> i wish i would have said take me to jail, i don't care. >> reporter: georgia is one of at least 19 states that allows corporal punishment in schools. an estimated 167,000 public school children are physically disciplined every year. authorities here in jasper county say they never threatened perez with jail. >> so you do spank him? >> yeah. but i mean they were shaking him around and holding him down. i mean, you don't do something like that to a 5-year-old baby. >> reporter: the school says because of privacy issues they can't discuss details of this case but tell us they're re-examining discipline issues underlining that corporal punishment is allowed here with

welcome back. the co kjell la music and arts festival is drawing thousands to the dessecembe desert this week. they're hoping to see 225 bands. it runs next weekend and now the people who put it on want to put on the classic rock concert of the century and are looking to book the who, and pink floyd. all of them are hall of fame inductees. the concert would take place october 7 to the 9th incgyññ riverside county. bringing the legends together. i wonder how much the tickets would cost. >> plenty. are they $400 or $500? >> around there. >> just for the weekend. >> too much. we are looking at a quick warmup in some neighborhoods.

hernandez had himself a game to remember against madison bumgarner. he ripped his first pitch deep to left center to give his name a 1-0 lead. kershaw had his problems as well. this pitch allowed bumgarner to tie the game. l.a. regained the lead in the third as hernandez connects again. he had a two-run double and a four-run fourth. dodgers win 7-3. before the as took on the royals, blue and henderson were honored. lorenzo cain with the rbi single. the as cut the lead in half as vogt hit his first home run of the year. he has this fan's vote. the royals got a big insurance run in the 9th. kansas city wins 4-2.

oakland has now lost four straight. after winning a record 73 games this season, some are wondering if the warriors can go unbeaten in the playoffs. we'll start to find out this afternoon when they host the rockets in game one. the warriors worked out yesterday at their brak facility. public perception has changed when they won their first nba title in 40 years. now they're the odds on favorite to win it all. >> last year even though we won 67 games, people wondered if we could get it done. it's a different feel, a different dynamic, but still got to win 16 games. >> reporter: if the rockets have a chance of an upset, james harden will likely be the key. this year he joined lebron james, oscar robertson, and michael jordan as the only players to average 29 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds in a season. he says bring on the warriors. >> you got to face them anyway no matter whether it's first round or coverage final.
