now to primary day in new york. donald trump is predicting a big victory after a string of bruising losses leading his rivals by more than 30 points and he's hoping to sweep all 95 gop delegates up for grabs today after making several stops in new york, ted cruz is already looking ahead. he told voters in maryland that he can stop trump and he'll watch today's results from pennsylvania, two of the five states holding primaries next week. the democrats were busy crisscrossing new york. hillary clinton is 13 points ahead of sanders in the latest poll. she said she's hoping to wrap up the nomination with a win today. but sanders is still attracting thousands of supporters at his rallies. his campaign accused the democratic party of improperly allocating money from joint fund raising to clinton. the dnc denies the allegation. the clinton camp accused sanders of resorting to false attacks. and later there half hour, we'll have a closer look at all the successes and failures the

candidates have had in trying to impress new yorkers. ahead of president obama's visit to saudi arabia tomorrow, his support for the kingdom is generating some heat. there is suspicion in the u.s. that parts of the saudi government were involved in the september 11th attacks. the president opposes legislation that would allow lawsuits against countries that aid terrorism. hillary clinton, bernie sanders and ted cruz are among those who say the families of victims should be able to sue saudi arabia, but the president disagrees. >> if we open up the possibility that individuals in the united states can routinely start suing other governments, then we are also opening up the united states to being continually states to being continually sued by individuals in other countries. >> some 9/11 family members are outraged that the president is going along with saudi arabia

which is warning that it will sell off hundreds of billions of dollars worth of american assets if this bill passes. experts aren't sure that's a credible threat. >> the death toll from japan's recent twin earthquakes is up to at least 45. things are more serious in ecuador where more than 400 people are dead following saturday's powerful quake. abc's linzie janis is there. >> reporter: this is the moment a 7.8 magnitude earthquake strikes. panicked screams. and then, the lights go out. entire city blocks leveled. homes collapsed with people still inside. more than 350 dead and thousands more injured. this overpass is one of the busiest roads in guayaquil. the powerful earthquake causing it to collapse, shredding tons of concrete and steel. american teacher brian bayer inside this badly damaged building when it struck. >> the entire building was jumping up and down. it was the scariest moment of my life. >> reporter: these firefighters working for hours to free this man. nearby, a man talking through a tiny hole to his family, stuck

have now been pulled out of a collapsed shopping center where they were trapped for more than 32 hours. linzie janice, abc news, ecuador. >> the scaffolding collapses in toronto sent three people to the hospital. the crash happened yesterday afternoon at a construction site. a mother and baby in a stroller were briefly trapped in the rubble but later pulled to safety. the stroller might have saved the child by absorbing the impact of the crash. now to the markets. asian stock marks mostly higher. investors are encouraged by wall street's rally to its highest level in recent months. the dow closed just about 18,000. it's now within striking distance of the all time high set last may. target meanwhile is increasing its minimum wage to $10 an hour following the lead of other retailers and states. walmart and sam's club employees got an increase in february and new york and california have new laws to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. sales of the hottest sparkling white wine in the world could soon run dry. prosecco sales have grown by a

down. >> reporter: for now, new york promises to be a welcome reset for both front runners. megan hughes, abc news, washington. >> more than 11,000 people turned out at a hockey arena in buffalo for donald trump's final rally before the primary. he tried to invoke the 9/11 attacks while praising new york values but he misspoke. >> because i was down there on 7-eleven, and i watched our police and our firemen down at the world trade center. >> trump kept talking apparently not realizing he mistakenly said 7-eleven instead of 9/11 and supporters didn't seem to mind. 200 additional u.s. troops mostly special forces are heading to iraq to join the battle against isis. secretary of defense ash carter made the announcement during a stop in baghdad and for the first time in the fight against isis, eight apache helicopters are also being sent to iraq. the arrival of the troops marks the first major increase in u.s. forces in nearly a year.

now to a bizarre incident at a u.s. base in turkey when two turkish nationalists tried to put a bag over a u.s. soldier's head. members of the turkish youth union posted the incident online claiming it was in retaliation for u.s. troops wrongly arresting members of the turkish military in 2003 and putting bags over their heads. that was viewed in turkey as a deliberate insult. >> israel vowing to quote settle the score with terrorists it says are responsible for a bus bombing in jerusalem. more than 20 people on board the bus were injured. two seriously. the incident has raised fears about a return to the deadly palestinian suicide bombings on buses a decade ago. hamas praised the bombing but didn't take responsibility for it. survivors still being pulled from the rubble of ecuador's massive quake. the latest are three people rescued from a flattened shopping center trapped under the debris for nearly a day and a half. the death toll from saturday's

7.8 quake has climbed to more than 400. at least one killed was an american. now to a natural disaster in this country. the torrential rains in the south. at least five people have drowned in the floods in and around houston and hundreds of homes are damaged. there have been nearly 900 rescues from the flood waters. roads are closed throughout south texas all but paralyzing the region which is under a flash flood watch through the night. we'll have much more from the region in our next half hour. the eight justices on the supreme court appear evenly divided over president obama's plan to shield nearly 4 million people from deportation. if the court splits with a 4-4 vote, that would leave the program in legal limbo. abc's jim avila has the latest from the court. >> reporter: immigration, the flashpoint dividing the nation. tonight, on the doorstep of the supreme court, in perhaps its biggest case of the term. texas leads 25 other states,

claiming president obama has gone too far with executive actions, granting millions of otherwise law-abiding undocumented immigrants the right to stay and work in the u.s. >> one person doesn't have the unilateral authority to change the law or make new law. >> reporter: texas admitted under tough questioning from supreme court justices that congress has not given the president enough money to deport all 11 million immigrants here illegally. so obama does have the legal right to make decisions about who gets to stay. with the death of justice scalia, the court now appears divided, 4-4, along conservative and liberal lines. because we don't have scalia, what does 4-4 mean? the government loses, if it's 4-4, right? >> if it's 4-4, the federal government loses. the lower court opinion, which found against the program stays in effect. >> reporter: that would be a big loss for president obama. his immigration policies and the court itself concerned about appearing partisan and ineffective. jim avila, abc news, at the

supreme court. also at the supreme court, google scored a victory. justices turned down an appeal to stop the company from scanning millions of books and making them searchable online. authors are said that the google books project was copyright infringement on an epic scale but google has said this gives readers a new way to find books and therefore, is good for authors. >> did you file your tax returns by last night's deadline? did you. >> i did. last minute but i got it in there. >> i got an extension in. >> procrastinator. >> if not, the irs will assess fines and penalties but notice indian city of bangalore, they have gone even further. >> this city literally drums up embarrassment for companies that don't pay up. the bands stand outside of businesses that haven't paid their taxes to make sure everybody knows. the message seems to be working after getting a visit from one of these bands, businesses usually take care of the tax bill immediately.
