making news in america this morning, hillary clinton and donald trump regain the momentum but can they lock it up with the next big test less than a week away. we're live with the latest. breaking overnight, a wrestling legend found dead. the tributes pouring in for chyna as the investigation gets under way. and texas faces new concerns as aging dams holding back walls of water are deemed extremely high risk. plus, a home on the brink of falling right into a swollen river. and happy birthday, your majesty, the queen of england turned 90 pictured proudly in a new photo with the youngest members of the royal family. good thursday morning.

we begin with the race for the white house and the front-runners looking to the general election after crushing their rivals in new york. >> the other candidates, though, are not giving up. they're also hitting the campaign trail today hoping to score some more crucial delegates in the next round of primaries. it's "your voice, your vote." we get the latest from abc's bazi kanani. good morning, bazi. >> reporter: good morning, diane. morning, ryan. donald trump says his campaign is evolving. he is hiring new staff and working to change his tone. hillary clinton also moving on from the bitter battle for new york. hillary clinton turns her focus to the general election attacking her potential republican challengers' rhetoric. >> i mean, what they say is not only offensive, it's downright dangerous. >> reporter: after her double-digit new york blow-out clinton could lose the remaining primaries by wide margins and still have enough delegates to win the nomination. she's now appealing for party unity. >> to all the people who

supported senator sanders, i believe there is much more that unites us than divides us. >> reporter: but bernie sanders says not so fast. >> we believe we have the momentum, and we believe we have a path toward victory. >> reporter: clinton emerges bruised from the tough new york primary fight, republicans pouncing. >> you know what bernie sanders said about her twice, he said, bad judgment. she's got bad judgment. we are going to beat her so badly. >> reporter: donald trump also promises to clinch the nomination after winning nearly all of new york's delegates, now calling on ted cruz to drop out. but cruz balks. >> upon winning his home state donald with the characteristic display of humility declared this race is over. >> reporter: both cruz and john kasich insist they can still win at a contested convention. the next round of primaries is this coming tuesday in five northeastern states.

diane, ryan. >> bazi kanani live in washington, thanks, bazi. and later on "good morning america," a live town hall event with hillary clinton. we have some breaking news this morning now from southern california. it's a shocker for millions of wrestling fans, wwe legend chyna has died. anyone who watched wrestling in the '90s knew the superstar. who later became an actress. her given name was joanie laurer. she was found dead in her home in redondo beach, california. there's no word on a cause of death, but her manager says she died peacefully. wwe executive stephanie mcmahon tweeted chyna was truly a pioneer and will be missed. so many fans are also sharing their comments online expressing their love. chyna was 45 years old. over to michigan this morning where the first criminal charges have been filed in flint. three government officials could now face prison time for their alleged part in triggering the city's lead contamination crisis and then trying to cover it up. abc's alex perez has the latest. >> reporter: the first criminal

charges filed in flint in the wake of the crisis that found toxic levels of lead in the water poisoning a community. >> they failed in their responsibilities to protect the health and safety of families of flint. >> reporter: now facing felony charges, michigan department of environmental quality supervisor stephen bush and engineer michael prysby and city of flint water quality supervisor, michael glasgow. >> they failed michigan families. indeed, they failed us all. >> reporter: prosecutors allege prysby and busch tampered with lead test results that were reported to the epa, and officials say prysby approved a permit for the flint water plant knowing it would not provide safe drinking water. both officials pleading not guilty in court. glasgow, authorities say, filed false reports lying about which homes were tested for lead so that results would appear to be at safe levels. but his attorney firing back saying glasgow strongly opposed

the transfer of the source of water for flint. the attorney general insisting more charges will come. >> is the governor ultimately responsible, and will he face charges? >> no one is off the table. >> reporter: when asked if he broke the law, governor snyder only saying -- >> i don't believe so. >> reporter: alex perez, abc news, flint, michigan. the slow moving system that drenched texas is finally moving on. it's moving up into the ohio valley today, although it won't be as strong as it was in texas. enough of the storm is remaining behind to dump more rain on texas. by evening the rain will reach the northeast. and even though the rain is tapering off, there's still a threat of more flooding in the houston area. two aging dams that should have been replaced years ago are all that stand between reservoirs that are near capacity and catastrophic flooding. a major highway through houston is expected to remain under water for at least another month. and this epic flooding proved the final straw for a home about 40 miles north of houston.

it's been sliding into the san jacinto river for about a year. a slow motion disaster. unlike many people in houston, though, this homeowner had time to save her possessions before the house was destroyed. overseas some 500 refugees and migrants are now feared dead after their ship capsized off the greek coast earlier this week. only 41 people survived, among them one child. they say their group left libya last week before their smugglers moved them to an already overcrowded larger boat which capsized and sank. those survivors spent three days at sea before being rescued. and right now president obama is holding meetings in saudi arabia. the focus is on regional conflicts including syria and libya. yesterday the president's focus was on conflicts between the u.s. and the host country, saudi arabia, especially differences over iran, human rights and the best way to fight terror. president obama travels to london tonight. and here at home, first lady michelle obama was talking everything from politics to

health to a group of children. >> marking take our daughters and sons to work day, the first lady gave props to hillary clinton calling her impressive and phenomenal but pointed out she herself has no future white house ambitions. >> but what she is striving to be is healthy and active. >> i want to be like a 90-year-old lady that's really fly, you know. do you guys have grandparents that are still pretty fly, you know, they still dress like no, uh-huh. >> the first lady said after a new president is sworn in, she and her husband might take a vacation or they might just take a nap. well, still ahead, a change for 20. your money getting a makeover. new reaction overnight about harriet tubman replacing andrew jackson. plus, a classroom attack. a teacher's aide accused of going after the student. see the dramatic altercation caught on camera. and a first in space, how an astronaut plans to run a marathon.

federal agents have discovered a sophisticated drug tunnel running across the mexican border. the tunnel is a half a mile long going from a house in tijuana to a san diego lot, and it was covered by a large trash bin. the tunnel had lights, ventilation, even a large freight elevator. agents seized more than two tons of cocaine and 11,000 pounds of marijuana. the president of ecuador is announcing some new plans aimed at rebuilding his quake devastated country. his order that the sales tax be raised and that millionaires be subject to a one time tax. the president is also warning residents that the damage could run into the billions of dollars and take years to repair. the death toll is now nearing 600 as hope fades for any more

survivors. democrats on capitol hill say there is a deal to partially fund president obama's request for funds to fight the zika virus. the president wanted 1.9 billion. republicans have apparently agreed to just over a billion. a committee could vote on the deal later today. meanwhile, some residents in the florida keys are protesting a plan to release genetically modified mosquitoes to help battling the virus. an agreement is expected to be announced today to compensate volkswagen owners involved in the emissions scandal. vw has reportedly agreed to buy back some of the 600,000 diesel cars that were rigged to cheat on emission tests. individual owners could also be offered 5,000 in compensation, plus have their cars modified free of charge. final details are still being worked on ahead of today's hearing before a federal judge in san francisco. some comcast cable customers will no longer need a box in order to watch cable tv. roku devices have the needed software.

baseball analyst for inappropriate comments about transgender people. >> former red sox pitcher curt schilling made the comments on facebook while reposting a meme widely seen as anti-transgender. that's not the first time his controversial comments have gotten him in trouble with the sports network. espn like abc is part of disney. last month schilling made a comment about the presidential race and last summer schilling was suspended for equating muslims with nazis. six men arrested during the unrest following the death of freddie gray have sued the baltimore police department. all the men were eventually cleared of the charges against them. they claim they were beaten, abused and deprived of their right to protest. among those suing is larry lomax who is seen being pepper sprayed and yanked by the hair when he was arrested. new and disturbing video out of a milwaukee high school shows a teacher's aide attacking a student. this cell phone video shows the 39-year-old aide holding the 14-year-old

student down shouting expletives at him. the aide was arrested and besides possible criminal charges, he could be fired. the student was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries. and caught on video at a little league game outside of ft. lauderdale, florida, two coaches coming to blows after one coach reportedly switched out one player for a faster runner. and the other coaches had to intervene to break up the fight. no one was seriously hurt. no charges filed, and both coaches eventually shook hands but the league says both will now have to face a disciplinary board. a british astronaut is about to run the london marathon. and in case you're not impressed yet, he's doing it from outer space. tim peake is currently living on the international space station but he plans to take part in the race on sunday along with thousands of runners back on earth. peake will run on the exercise treadmail for four hours. the biggest challenge is the harness used to keep his feet down because, of course, he's in zero gravity. >> it's got to be like running 100 miles.

abc7 news begins with breaking news. in crockett there are two citizens turn the come mutt near the bridge into a traffic mess the one accident we know is fatal. our reporter is near the citizen. what happening? >> yes, a tragic situation. you will want to be careful if you come through this area on the commute. the second happened is the tragic accident. a driver died in the crash. a big rig and four other vehicles crashed on eastbound 80 at the exit. all lanes are closeed. cars are forced to exit. it happened at 3:30.

that was two hours after the first crash that happened. that was a cement truck and an ambulance colliding. two people were hurt. one victim had major injuries. and had to be airlifted. this is a construction zone. authorities do not know if they crashed because of the construction. the second accident was a result of backup from the first accident. at this point it is too early to say. i asked weapon they thought they would get the lanes reorder and they don't know. the lanes are close asked cars are forced to exit. avoid this area this is a massive backup building. avoid the area if you can. >> thank you for skinning us. i am natasha zouves. >> i am reggie aqui.
