expressing regret about hayward's visit after some parents got upset. the trial is set to begin next month. happening today, terrific news for riders of san francisco buses and light rail vehicles. trains and buses will now arrive more often and let late night riders can now enjoy night owl services. 20 lines are getting expanded service and 8 expand the hours. this is the fourth round of improvements launched by the transportation municipal agency. some local school districts have gone from handing teachers pink slips to giving them green, as in cash bonuses. they can get up to five thousand dollars if they teach certain subjects in one district. we have the story. >> so x minus 3. >> math and science teachers seem to be valuable assets for many school districts. >> as many of us add college

technology education pathways, we are really loocking for math, science. >> pittsburgh's two high schools are desperate to hire more of them. offer a $5,000 bonus to anyone in that field that wants to teach here. that's in addition to their salaries which range between $50,000 and $80,000 depending on the level of education. >> we are looking at a two year commitment and basically what we would do is give them that once they sign. >> that signing bonus would also be given to language emersion and special education teachers k-12. the district is also look to fill other positions like bus drivers, substitute teachers, clerical workers, but these wouldn't get a bonus. during their concessions the labor department found between 2008 and 2012 california lost more than 80,000 school related jobs. many college students thinking of going into education thought otherwise. >> after the recession many decided not to go into teaching for a while so there is a

shortage. >> other school districts are providing incentives like for forgiving student loans, payingi for teachers to continue their education and subsidizing their housing cost. pittsburgh has a lower cost of living and the pittsburgh hopes that will be a selling point for any teacher. abc7 news. the job fair will be held this morning at the pittsburgh high school gym. it is located at 1750 harbor street in pittsburgh. the event goes from 9:00 to 11:30. >> 450 sounds like a lot to pay for a camera lens unless that lens was in space. that was the amount of the winning width in an auction for this camera lens used in the 1971 apollo moon figures. it was used by glen scott, who decided to keep it until he decideed to auction it.

several other space items were sold there including a neil arm stopping signed photo showing his giant leap for mankind back in 1969. it sold for more than $38,000. for some high school students going to the prom is a pipe dream. that's because they are in the hospital, fighting life-threatening illnesses, so a bay area children's hospital stepped in bringing some normalcy to these young patients' lives. alyssa shows us the fun. >> prom is a right of passage for high-schoolers but a lot of these teenagers are forced to miss the event, like iris. she has spent the last six years in and out of the hospital for surgeries and treatment. >> being in the hospital all the time, you miss so many normal high school teenager things. >> this dance is at ucsf children's hospital at mission bay. all the teenage patients are invited. some came directly from their room. >> you get to be with so many lifelong friends and people that understand you in ways that nobody else can. ♪

as we check out things right now we have some cloud cover. a little fog forming in parts of the north bay, but overall shaping up to be a pretty nice sunrise. the sun coming up 67:23. sets at 7:53. that's 13 thundershowers and 30 minutes day light. temperatures around where we should be for this time of year, which rinks from about the low 60s to about 70. but that feels cool in some spots of the bay area because we will have some of those northwesterly winds. not so much today but really tomorrow as the weak weather system drops down from the north and really the precip will be well to the east of us in the sierra nevada. so what we will receive is the breezy winds picking up throughout the later afternoon and evening hours. so a live look outside. a little hazy from this vantage point. temperatures ranging from the upper 40s to low 50s. it's a cooler start. we are looking at mostly clear skies, though. right any it's 50 san jose, 51

mountain view, 48 morgan hill and half moon bay. there's the nice clear sky from sfo where temperatures on the peninsula on the north bay have been on the cool side. we are at 43 santa rosa, 42 napa. looking a the 49 in concord. livermore at 48. mid-40s in novato. compared to yesterday, we are looking at about 5 to 11 degrees cooler from palo alto to mountain view. you have the clouds and rain, as well as the entire bay area pretty much throughout the day on and off. and that resulted in some record rainfall for san francisco. over a half-inch throughout the day yesterday. this morning sitting in the low 50s. so this camera was mt. tam. cooler conditions this morning with partly cloudy skies today. a lot of sunshine, though. we will see windy conditions as that system drops to the east of us tomorrow. and those northwesterly winds much winds keeping temperatures pretty much at or a little bit below normal. beach has starred statement from

the national weather service, looking at the possibilities of large rip currents and large breakers as they continue to increase the swell. 10 is feet half moon bay all the way down the coast to monterey. certainly dangerous. rainfall 102% of normal. san francisco 1 hundred 4% of normal. right now in san jose 90% of normal. oakland about 84%. and sfo87%. 93% in santa rosa. could add to those totals with this system. by the time we get to wednesday morning could see wet the pavement and then throughout the latert part of the morning hours still some light precip. this is wednesday. so looks like between now and then we will enjoy some sunshine. mixed in with some clouds. 68 on the peninsula with about 69 palo alto. look for low 60s from downtown san francisco, upper 60s santa rosa, 66 in vallejo, 67 union city. you head inland and more upper 60s to near 70 in livermore

still rain to talk about throughout the week ahead. chris. >> lisa, thank you >> developing news out. ohio this morning. the search for a mass murderer is underway after the brutal death of at least 8 family members had. it was about 70 miles east of cincinnati. the victims included seven adults and one child. each was reportedly shot in the head. three children, including a four day old baby and a six-month-old survived the shootings. police say whoever is responsible should be considered armed and dangerous. >> more developing news out of georgia this morning where authorities say a man suspected of killing five people has killed himself after unsuccessfully trying to set his house open fire. the 50-year-old shot himself in the head. police believe it was a domestic condition that led to the violence last night. they said some of the victims were lated to the gunman's wife.

sunny and breezy throughout the early part of the week with average temperatures and maybe more rain next wednesday and slightly warmer into the end of the work week. any rain we see, a welcome rain. >> a pleasant forecast. thank you. california is still under a state-wide order to save water so why are some bay area agencies now blasting water out of their fire hydrants? it may look wasteful, but it's actually keeping our drinking water clean. here's abc7 news anchor ama daetz. >> they are flushing their waterpipes releasing 1,000 gallons a minute on to the street. it used to be automatic. fire hydrants end up and left to run. high-velocity water scours the pipe and clearing out sediment and chemicals so they don't end up in your drinking water. when the drought hit many communities stopped to change -- to save water, but that is

beginning to change. >> we are looking at a full reservoir, which we are happy and pleased about. it's lapping over the top of our boards on the spillway, and that's about as much water as we can store here. >> it provides about 40% of calistoga's water. now that it's full, water officials decided it's time to clean the pipes. crews let the water at each hydrant run until it's clear. this one took nine minutes. >> it is clearing up a lot faster than we expected. >> they also test the hydrants to make sure they are ready for an emergency. >> we have 170-plus fire hydrants to do. so it will take a few months. >> this process is also happening in other bay area communities. but not all reservoirs are full and the sierra snowpack is still below normal. not every agency is doing the same thing. >> here in san francisco and in the east bay mud service area, officials tell us they are considering flushing some hydrants for routine maintenance but for now they say they are still only doing it when

absolutely necessary. >> in the south bay the san jose water company is one of the first to use a new truck-based flushing system that saves water. this company video shows out the truck cop next to hydrants and flushes the pipes by running water through a filter so very.÷ little water ends up on the street. san jose's system costs half a million dollars and many districts don't have the money. so for now expect most agencies to keep flushing their pipes the old-fashioned way. >> and that was abc7 news anchor ama daetz reporting. once again, water officials say that even if you see water flushing out of the hydrants, don't assume the drought is over. the state water board is expected to decide next month whether to ease up on current restrictions. >> coming up, the annual cesar chavez festival and parade in san francisco. how you can celebrate the life and work of the
