good morning. evan. we can expect some pleasant weather conditions today. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> a record rain over a half inch. certainly seasonal dry and conditions to enjoy over the weekend. it's clear. we do have a few areas of fog but the tower camera is showing the golden gate bridge. you can see some of that with the low cloudiness there. low 50s in san jose, mid 50s in mountain view and 60 in oakland. the city in the background there and cloud cover with upper 40s.

51 in livermore. partly cloudy and mostly sunny today. it's certainly cooler. anywhere from 3 to 7 degrees cooler. cooler than that in napa and nava toe and emeryville right now. looking at a pretty nice afternoon. 60 on the coast. 63, san francisco. mid-60s around oakland. chris? >> lisa, thanks. we also have developing news out of oakland this morning. a fire crew sent us this video of a two-story structure on high street. a person had to be rescued by ladder from the second story and has been taken to the hospital. we're told the fire broke out just before 7:00 this morning and that took about ten minutes to knock down. investigators are still trying to determine a cause. >> b. acha.r.t.'s fleet of the future may have ended in a pile of dirt. the brand-new 2 million dollar car crashed during testing in hayward but we're told it could be a good thing. >> reporter: this week's old b.a.r.t. car plowed into

something called a sandbox. the car didn't deray. instead it came to a stop at the end of a test track used to test operators and test systems. >> none of the wheels came off of the running rails, so it was easy to pull it off the sand berm and put it where it was sup poised to be. >> reporter: since it didn't jump the tracks there was no damage to the wheels. there was no damage to the other parts of the vehicle either. >> we buy them and then do our testing and that's exactly what this test track is for. >> reporter: at nearly $2 million each, this is the first of ten new b.a.r.t. cars that will be tested and eventually added to the aging fleet. right now b.a.r.t. is trying to figure out if this was operator error or some other problem. if this is a technical problem, it's a good thing that we can test before we begin service

with passenger fleet in the future. they plan to test nine more. if they cheg out, they're expected to carry passengers at the end of the year. b.a.r.t. officials took to social media and sent out this tweet, quote, the test car was going five to ten miles per hour, no major damage, wheel never left the rail. this is why we have test tracks. in other new this morning pittsburgh police are investigating a two-car crash that sent three people including two kids to the hospital. they say a distracted driver ran a red light just after 8:00 last night. that car hit another sending the second car crashing into the two children walking in a cross walk and then into a guardrail. all three, though, are expected to survive. now to sierra where these skiers took advantage of the ten

inches that fell. that's at least two more feet than last year. the resort is projecting its longest ski season in ten years and is slated to close on may 30th. some good news about a sinkhole in san francisco. crews hope to reopen part of sacramento street by tomorrow night. it caved in on thursday near baker street. they blame a broken sewer line for the mess. you can see how big the hole was. you can see this. workers filled parts of the hole with sand yesterday. they're going to replace the broken sewer and repave the seat later today. a jazz memorial for prince will be held in new orleans on monday complete with the leasing of white doves, and as the many tributes to the music icon continue, authorities are reconstructed prince's final hours. ♪ >> reporter: this morning we're getting a fuller picture of how the life of a virtuoso came to a

close. 8:00 wednesday night according to the local sheriff prince was dropped off by an acquaintance at paisley park studios where he live and worked. the next morning his staff members got worried. >> they tried to reach him and were unable to reach prince. they responded. >> person not breathing. >> 9:47 a.m. first responders arrive. they tried and failed to revive him. at prince declared dead. stunning his fans especially those who attended a dance party at his house five days earlier. >> he seemed great, totally energized. >> what you're saying doesn't sound like a man on death's door. >> i certainly didn't get that impression, that's for sure. >> reporter: the sheriff said there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body. >> we have no reason to believe at this point that this was a

suicide. >> reporter: the medical examiner released prince's body to his family friday afternoon saying they won't release the autopsy results until they can get prince's family medical history and run a complete toxicology exam which could take weeks. >> it could be days depending on the types of tests and most likely weeks before we could have the complete results available to us. >> reporter: meanwhile people all over the world remembering prince singing his songs songs, buying them too. the man behind "little red corvette" now at the top of the charts. it's expected to hit the top of the billboard charts, the fifth time he's done that. ♪ purple rain, purple rain purple rain, purple rain ♪

this is the suspect, 32-year-old fernando maldonado of concord. he serve at both the fellow baptist church and grace baptist church in pleasant hill. he's currently being held at the jail. his bail is currently being set. gloria allred attended the high school. she wanted to counter the 49ers player's visit in february. about making good choices. >> i think under the circumstances there are better merges for high-risk students in a public high school than someone charged with a felony for the rape of an intoxicated woman. >> the parents expressed regret. mcdonald has pled not guilty to felony rape. his trial is scheduled to begin next month. some local school districts

have gone from handing teachers pink slips to giving them green as in cash bonuses. teachers can get up to $500 for teaching. >> so our factors now are x minus 3. >> reporter: math and science teachers seem to be valuable assets for many school districts. >> we're really looking for math, science. >> reporter: pittsburgh's two high schools are desperate to higher more of them, offering a $5,000 bonus for anyone in that field who wants to teach here. that would be in addition to their salaries which range from $50,000 to northeasterly $80,000 depending on their experience and levels of education. >> there are some conditions. we're looking at a two-year commitment and basically what you would do is give us that baseline. >> reporter: that signing bonus would also be given to spanish

and special education and learning. substitute teachers, bus drivers, and cat tear ya workers. but they wouldn't get a bonus. during the recession they found that between 2008 and 2012 california lost more than 80,000 school-related jobs. many college students thinking of going into education decided otherwise. >> after the recession many teachers decided not to go into teaching for a while, so there is a shortage. >> they're offering other incentives like paying for student loans. they hope those will be two selling points for any teacher. in pittsburgh lyanne melendez, cbs news. a job fair will be at harbor

view, san jose. half moon bay. good morning, morgan hill, 54 for you. we can see mostly sunny conditions and the winds problematic tomorrow certainly on the tarmac. 478 in santa rosa. still cool up in the north bay with 50 in novato. good morning, livermore. 51 degrees. some areas could see about 70. i love this picture with some ice on the lens. in the sierra nevada, a little snow. they say a rain/snow mix tomorrow and another opportunity for precip on wednesday. so look for cooler conditions this morning. you're probably feeling it. partly to mostly sunny skies today turning windy along the coast. perhaps over 40 miles an hour. today we do have a beach hazard statement through the evening hours through the national weather service from sonoma to monterey. look at the wind currents. pretty high. we have this. we have the possibility of

strong rip currents and those large breakers at the coast. so we'll see sunny skies there but it will be cool. notice the wind direction now. out of the north the winds are nice and light. by the coast it will be a little breezy today taking you into tomorrow. watch the color. you can see from the coast and the speed picking up throughout the afternoon, stopping this by late in the day. notice 41-mile-an-hour gusts. and around the bay, it will be breezy as well around the later afternoon hours. certainly a less windy day today and precip in the sierra nevada come late tomorrow and monday. we're going to stay dry for the next few days and into the middle of the week, it looks like by wednesday we could see some activity by 9:00 in the morning. we'll keep you posted, loving any more extra rain. for now it will be dry. palo alto.

"abc7 news" has learned that the nurses will not be negotiating next week. they say that 84% of its more than 3,000 nurses are in favor of striking for more money and better benefits. both corona and the hospital say they will work in good faith with the federal mediator. nurses at stanford and packard walked off the job last in june of 2000. the organization raises money to provide diapers to needy moms. this is video from last year's event.

different crime scenes in pike county, ohio, 70 miles east of cincinnati. the victims included seven adults and one child. each was report lid shot in the head. three children and a 4-day-old baby survived the shooting. police say responsibility is darjs. a 50-year-old gunman shot himself in the head. police believe it was a domestic dispute that led to the violence last night saying some of the victims were related to the gunman's wife. now to the race for the white house and what could be a new donald trump. his new campaign aide was caught on tape saying trump's fiery image has only been a role he's been playing. his rival ted cruz say as what he's been saying all along is true, that whatever trump is saying can't be trusted. >> go ahead gorks ahead. what the hell. let's have some fun.

miles an hour. for this morning, it's cool. we're looking at partly cloudy skies today and the winds tomorrow. if you're picking day to enjoy the weather or head to the coast or the higher elevations, today would be the day because tomorrow it's going to get quite gusty, certainly above about a thousand feet as well. looking to the high surf, 10 to 11 feet right now. beach hazard statement through this evening with strong rip currents and large breakers. with the sunshine it's going to be warm at the coast. this afternoon, winding up to 15 and 20 miles an hour out of the northwest at the shoreline except if you're here. tomorrow look what happens. the winds begin to gust 30 to 40 miles an hour here and even around the bay, 20 to 25-mile-an-hour winds. keep that in mind for your sunday afternoon. remember the snow and the rain. head to the sierra nevada. so far doing pretty good at 99%

of normal and napa, 102% of normal. mountain view, san jose, 104%. you can see oakland at 84% of normal. we could add to the totals. we have a weak weather system head ourd way tomorrow. that one misses us. it will bring us wind. sierra precip into tuesday. here we are wednesday morning with a chance of rain then. it really kind of holds together. this shows it staying with us through the afternoon some of maybe another tenth to two-tenths. in san jose, looking in the upper 60s. all week long, very pleasant. getting warmer by the end of the upcoming workweek. looking at temperatures around the bay, 61. half mooi moon bay. breezy. 66 oakland, vellejo. 69 in san jose and looking at the game today, 62 degrees.

65. cool. bring extra layers. the accuweather seven-day forecast featuring 60s for most with a gusty wind tomorrow. a little change temperature-wise but less winds the early part of the week and maybe rain by wednesday and slightly warmer. looking pretty good. >> lisa. thank you. california is still under a statewide order to save water, so why are sought bay air yeah yhencys now blaftsing water out of their fire hydrants? it may look wasteful but it's keeping our drinking water safe. here's ama daetz. >> reporter: this used to be standard practice all over the bay area. fire hydrants periodically opened up and left to run. high velocity water scours the pipes of chemicals so they don't end up in your drifrging water. when the drought hit many

communities stopped regular pipe flushing to save water but that's beginning to change. >> we're looking at it. it's over on our boards and spillway. >> reporter: this reservoir providing about 40% of their water. now that it's full water officials decided it's time to clean the pipes. crews let the water run at each hydrant until it's clear. this one took 9 minutes. >> this is clearing up faster than expected. >> reporter: they also test the hydrants to make sure they're ready for an emergency. >> we have 170 plus fire high dranltds to do. it will take a few months. >> reporter: this process is also happening in other bay area communities. but not all the reservoirs are full and still below normal so not every agency is doing the same thing. here in san francisco and east bay mud area, officials say they're considering flushing
