sacramento. steven mayor took this picture of his back deck and allen of hail in his backyard. >> the north bay saw some rain this morning, but more could come in the next few hours. drew tuma is here with a look. >> we're seeing sunshine in spots, it's initiating more showers. live doppler 7 hd, we'll press you to street level. i want to take you to the south and east of fairfield. notice a stronger cell has moved through the region with the pops of yellow indicating downpours. also you'll notice lightning strikes on doppler 7 hd. 15 in the last 15 minutes. youghville, moving into napa in the next 15 or 20 minutes. we'll track this whole line for you. it's moving to the south and will likely cross over to the water into antioch and concord in the next hour or so. storm impact scale, we track storms all season long from 1 to 5, gives you a good idea of what

shot dead in a conference room at apple's corporate headquarters today. >> the coroner hasn't revealed the identity of the person, but this morning's incident resulted in a big response from sant kmrair ra county sheriff's deputies. >> melanie is live at the campus with details on this. >> reporter: the campus here was not locked down at any point. we've seen employees coming and going all day long. the santa clara county sheriff's office says that nobody else was at risk and nobody else was involved in this incident. calls for help to apple's cupertino headquarters came in just after 8:30 this morning. >> a head wound possibly has a gun. looks like security was reporting the employee down. >> reporter: the santa clara county sheriff's office confirms a male employee was found dead inside the building. >> it was up to the coroner to determine the manner and cause of death. >> reporter: dispatch initially suggested there may have been others involved. >> they're advising that there's

a body in one of the conference rooms with a gun. so we're not really sure if there's multiple people involved. >> reporter: but the santa clara county sheriff's office said nobody else was at risk. >> what happens next is the coroner will arrive and conduct an investigation as well as our investigators to determine all details of what happened here. >> more than four hours after the initial incident, the coroner was still on the scene. apple's campus remains open for business. the santa clara county sheriff's office says they are not looking for any suspects. in cupertino, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. san francisco's district attorney george gascon has fil d d charges against chris lue for obstructing a rape investigation. lue is -- raping a woman last august and failing to report the information to fellow officers.

even though officer jason lie confirmed he was the person the rape victim was referring to, lew allegedly allowed a police report to be filed with the suspect listed as unknown. 580 is back open this afternoon after a deadly crash during the morning commute. >> it happened just before 6:00 this morning in the dublin/pleasanton area backing up traffic to tracy. a >> reporter: someone just driving in a bmw on westbound 580 near dublin was suddenly rear-ended and killed. >> the big rig for an unknown reason rear-ended a bmw, i'm hearing speeds between 40 and 50 miles an hour with no braking application rfrnlts the bmw slammed into the car in front of it and the domino effect continued until three cars were damaged, three bursting into flames. thick, black smoke filled the air and the morning commute came to a halt. all but two lanes were shut down

for three hours considerating a backup that stretched at least 30 miles long. eight other people were hurt but walked away with minor injuries. officers don't know why the bmw had slowed down, only saying that is pretty typical here. >> traffic is stopped here almost every day. that's kind of the frustration. this is a major thoroughfare for commuters and people that drive this regularly should know that the traffic does come to a stop at times in this area. >> reporter: they reopened all lanes at 9:00. it started raining soon after. rain was not a factor in the accident. investigators are interviewing the big rig driver to try and find out why he crashed. in dublin, abc 7 news. b.a.r.t. blames a damaged power cable that led to last week's slow-speed crash of its new train car. the agency explained today the cord was crimped by a closing cabinet door that cut off power to a pump that supplied hydraulic brake fluid to the

car. coming up on abc 7 news at 5, eric thomas will have more on the b.a.r.t. fleet. now let's turn to the dubs, tonight's big game. a warriors win could wrap up the series. >> larry is live at oracle tonight. >> reporter: i think that's what 19,000-plus are going to be hoping for tonight. a warriors victory. right now we're 3 1/2 hours before game time. we've got the cheerleaders getting ready to warm up, a battle of assistant coaches in a little one-on-one here as jaron collins tries to rekindle his old touch back in his stanford days. but let me focus on tonight's game a little bit because we've been talking and really been so obsessed with steph curry's injuries and whether he's going to be able to go or not. but the one thing that has been a little bit overlooked is actually the fact that they will be playing game five tonight and have to win game five in order

to advance. we've been wrapped up with the injury talk. everybody is kind of assuming a victory over the rockets here. but you still have to play the game. the warriors really seem to rally after they saw steph goz down after halftime in game four. they came out, lit up the rockets for an nba-playoff record 21 threes. the warriors are keenly aware of just how quickly life can change, everybochange everything altered in a flash. one minute you're odds-on favorites to win a title, next wondering how you can survive the first round and get by with life after steph? at least for the next few games. draymond green, klay thompson talked about the urgency to finish off the rockets tonight. we'll hear from them later on in the hour as well as a rockets guarantee which has some people laughing. that's the story inside. right now let's go outside to laura anthony with a look at the fans and the anticipation heading up to tonight's game five.

bazi kanani, abc news, washington. >> hundreds of classes were canceled today after faculty members at city college of san francisco walked off the job in a one-day strike. >> we want justice for our college! >> the faculty members are upset over stalled contract negotiations. cpsf has offered a 7% wage increase over two years. the faculty wants 16% over four years. union organizers say state accreditors are complicating the negotiations. >> they're telling the board that if they give us what we want they will put the accreditation in the future at risk. >> ccsf chancellor susan lamb says the school can't afford what the teachers wants. the faculty is threatening a longer strike this fall if they don't have a contract. a group of special kids from san francisco got to attend the giants game this afternoon. and it all began with an abc 7 news story. >> that's right. abc 7 news anchor kristen sze is

as we get in closer to street live on live doppler 7 hd. we have a lone shower working through vacaville, fairfield right now. the light green indicating some light rain. we do have more moderate downpour, the pop of yellow you see around colinville. we'll track that cell for you. it's moving slowly to the south at about 13 miles per hour. in about nine minutes around pittsburg and 20 minutes the shower moving through the antioch area. we're all feeling those winds. look at in. current wind gusts at sfo airport 44 miles per hour. those are going to be some rough takeoffs and landings at the airport. 31 right now at half moon bay, even around the day between 20 and 30 miles per hour. and with that northerly wind, it's keeping us on the cool side, currently 58 in san francisco, 62 in oakland, 64 in concord, 60 fremont and 60 in san jose. we rate our storms from 1 to 5, 1 light and 5 most severe. it just gives you a better idea of what to expect. with this system working just to

the east of us right now, the next four hours we titled it a 1, just an isolated shower. if a stronger shower pops up, not out of the question to see a little bit of thunder. future weather, hour by hour, 6 oox 30, likely wet weather moflg through on concord, san ramon and hayward. as the system begins to exit to the east, the showers are really going to fall apart. by 8:00, much of the region will be in the clear. overnight tonight, we'll start to see mainly clear skies. lows in the north bay, 43 in napa, 49 san mateo, 50 overnight in san francisco and 48 overnight in oakland. a much drier and brighter day thursday. future weather, not a cloud in the sky, really lots of sunshine and the good news as we take a look at future tracker wind gusts will begin to relax around bay. the only spot likely with the windy conditions right along the immediate coastline between 25 and 35 miles per hour. but most cities as you move inland generally winds between 10 and perhaps 18 miles per hour. highs on your thursday, lots of

7 news. a pregnant woman who was shot in the head today in pacifica gave birth a short time later. both mother and baby are expected to survive. a manhunt is now on for the suspected gunman, the woman's ex-boyfriend ricardo kalidruz. police locked down three nearby schools earlier today as they searched for the suspect. there's sadness and shock today at apple's cupertino headquarters. matt keller tweeted that the sheriff's department confirmed an apple employee was found dead in a conference room. a gun was found nearby. investigators say there's no threat to the public. it is sunny now, but rain is not off our radar. abc 7 news meteorologist dan tuma tweeted that there is some weather coming up later. people in san jose's evergreen neighborhood tell abc 7 news they are worried following the killing of a married couple inside their home. investigators are now trying to find the couple's oldest son.

abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen is live at san jose police headquarters with the story. >> reporter: police have not said much about this investigation emphasizes they don't want to promise it. neighbors tell us that they won't be able to rest until more information is released. police say it wasn't a random act. ga lom and shamima rabbi were found dead by family members after not hearing from them in days. >> it's really nerve-racking because you never know what kind of person you're dealing with. >> reporter: neighbors close to lucas court in san jose say it's too much to process. >> it's just a feeling of uncertainty and fear until the du culprit is caught. >> reporter: whomever last saw the couple who had two sons wrote disturbing messages in the family's home. residents nearby are hopeful that surveillance video in the area will help police with the investigation. over on evergreen valley high

school where the youngest son attends school district officials tell us counselors are available for any student. evergreen students and alumni are offering condolence and support. >> juch an uneasy feeling for the whole neighborhood. i see a lot less people walking around in the neighborhood these days. ever since it happened over the weekend. >> reporter: friends and family say they're concerned about the older son's safety. he hasn't been seen since his parents were discovered dead. meanwhile, officials with the evergreen islamic center of san jose say they're now worried about the victims' muslim funerals being delayed. under california law, the bodies of the couple must be released to their oldest son. but because he hasn't turned up, the coroner will have to wait for a week to allow others to take possession. the youngest son is currently in protective custody. in san jose, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. a judge sentenced former house speaker dennis hastert to 15 months in prison in a hush money case centered on sexual abuse allegations. he appeared in chicago court

saying he was deeply ashamed and apologized for, quote, mistreating some of the athletes that he coached. the 74-year-old pleaded guilty last fall to violating banking laws in allegation that he had paid hush money over the years to one of his victims. >> because of law enforcement's efforts and tenacity, the curtain has been pulled back. we followed the case where it led. we brought the charges we could bring. and through that, mr. hastert's legend and legacy are gone. >> the judge also ordered hastert to undergo sex offender treatment, two years of supervision after release from prison and pay a $250,000 fine. robert durst could soon be headed to southern california to face charges in a 16-year-old murder case. today a judge in louisiana sentenced the real estate heir to seven years in prison under a plea deal on a firearms charge. prosecutors say durst killed susan berman in 2000 to keep her from talking to authorities about the disappearance of

durst's first wife in 1982. >> thousands of people are without power after severe storms hit the heartland overnight. the damage is extensive in some areas and now the storm is moving east. abc news reporter brandi hitt is in oklahoma city. >> reporter: after a long night of severe weather striking the heartland, hail and lightning revealing tornadoes forming in the darkness. >> i can see the dust kicking up. >> reporter: this is the aftermath. a roof ripped off this home in luther, oklahoma, debris scattered hundreds of feet away along with more damage throughout oklahoma city. >> extremely loud. very quick. very fast moving but very loud. >> reporter: funnel clouds were also spotted in texas where powerful storms barreled through flipping tractor trailers onto their sides. >> seconds, like it was here and it was gone. >> reporter: more houses damaged, roofs torn to shreds. you can see inside this house from above. >> after it hit, wind just all

inside the house and rain. >> reporter: cleanup is also under way at this texas medical facility. >> i was in shock, still am in shock. we've got about an hour's sleep last night. >> reporter: some using foam and cardboard to try and protect their cars from large hailstones. in kansas, tornado sirens were heard blaring. but across the plainsed damage was not as severe as first predicted. that storm system is moving into the midwest now and south, bringing the threat of strong damaging winds, more hail and possible tornadoes. take a look at this house. when the storms hit, the family of five inside took shelter. 30 minutes later, this is what they found. their home destroyed, their roof tossed across their front lawn. they're just happy no one was seriously hurt. brandi hitt, abc news, luther, oklahoma. harvard university officials are beginning to worry about a mumps outbreak on campus. 40 people have been sickened in the last two months. officials are becoming increasingly concerned because the outbreak continues to spread

despite all efforts to isolate patients. harvard's health director says next month's graduation ceremony could be affected. mumps is spread through saliva, mucus or respiratory droplets. >> it's an effort to ban concentrated caffeine products that have proven deadly. the parents of logan steiner are lobbying the -- concentrated caffeine can easily be purchased online as powder, liquid or inhalant. it's often advertised as a health supplement with little or no warning about its potency. >> if you look at one cup of coffee, it has 200 milligrams of caffeine in it. one teaspoon of the poudor is the amount in 28 cups of coffee. that can be really dangerous. >> dr. besser says one teaspoon can cause nausea, vomiting and heart palpitations. a tablespoon can in some cases cause death. still to come on abc 7 news at 4. the new olympic uniforms that could help fight the zika virus.

100 days and counting until the summer olympics in brazil. today the official olympic torch hand-over ceremony took place in athens. organizers of the games in rio took the torch following a six-day relay around greece. one of those who participated in the event is a 27-year-old syrian athlete and refugee who lost part of his leg during his country's civil war. olympic organizers hope today's pomp and circle boost ticket sales to the summer games. almost 40% of the tickets are still unsold. with the clock tick being down,

there are concerns that rio may not be ready to host. brazil has been plagued by problems from a political corruption scandal to the zika health crisis. south korea has an answer to the zika crisis at the olympics. zika-proof uniforms complete with mosquito repellent. uniforms were unveiled today. they include long pants, long sleeve shirts and jackets worn during ceremonies and training. the u.s. team doesn't appear to be worried. their closing ceremony outfits reveal shorts. they'll be made by ralph lauren. >> maybe some bug spray or something. larry is out at oracle tonight. >> that will come in handy. >> reporter: interesting uniform choices there or attire at least in the closing ceremony. you figure, we're okay, we're out of here. we'll survive one night in shorts. the rockets may be on their way home. that would be the plan for the warriors tonight if they close them out in game five. drew has the forecast coming up. inside, we anticipate it raining threes.

>> yes. drew? >> of course we want to see that. right now we're zwrust tracking one isolated shower. live doppler 7 hd, slowly sinking to the south, collinsville, some light rain. right on the fringe of entering pittsburg and antioch. it's slowing moving and really just a light shower indicated by the light green you see the on the screen. nonetheless, we saw the storm just to the east of us on the storm impact scale we rate our storms all season long from 1 to 5, 5 the most severe. we're tracking the next four hours, an isolated shower and it stays gusty and it stays breezy. tomorrow we are dry, lots of sunshine on the way, 65 in san francisco. it is breezy along the coast, 59 at half moon bay, 70 the high in fremont, about 72 in oakland, the same san jose, 79 fairfield and 74 in livermore. then a warming trend, the week ahead san jose, take a look at the numbers. 70s thursday and friday, quickly jumping to the 80s on saturday and that warmest day on sunday, in the mid to upper 80s.

discussing a proposed 65,000-deceit domed stadium. officials in nevada told abc 7 news no voting will take place tomorrow on funding. if funding is approved, any vote on that if and when it would happen would be several months away. it's time now to "ask finney." 7 on your side's michael finney is here to absence questions. our first one comes from megan m. from e-mailed, i'm looking for a personal loan to pay property taxes but i'm afraid of scams. what is your advice for the best loan? >> i'm glad you came to me now rather than after you had a problem. there aren't any loans out there specifically to pay for your taxes. let me give you a couple options. first, if you have good credit and your taxes rbt that much, i would like to to get a zero interest credit card. right now you can get zero interest credit cards for up to about 50 grand depend gd on how much you make and all of that that last 21 months without any interest. that's nearly two years. now, if you can't do that, then you're looking at a home equity

line of credit or a second mortgage, would be generally the way you would go. those rates are pretty good. about 5% or under right now. go to the bank that currently has your loan, a credit union. go to a big name if you're worried about being ripped off. that's your best way to go. you could go get an unsecured loan, but right now those would run you 15% to 18%. you don't want to do that. >> good information. paul a. from walnut creek e-mailed, michael. is owners title insurance needed? we're buying a house and saw this pricey optional item. should we agree to pay for it? >> it's pretty much not an option if you're financing your home. title insurance protects you or the lender or both of you if there's a problem with the title. like the guy who sold it to you didn't really own it or there was a lien on it that somebody didn't find. title in the united states is kind of a sketchy thing sometimes. this really protects you. i've done stories where people had homes and an owner came up and said, that's mine. >> oh, wow.

>> and it was. you want title insurance. you may want to shop around for price. >> danny b. from san francisco asked via facebook, i want to know why apps ask for permission to view your contacts and pictures before downloading them? do we have a right to deny the option? >> it's pretty tough to deny it. why would they need that? let's say they're a photo app where you change the way the photo looks. that would be a legitimate reason. another reason they do it is they just want to make sure there's no way their app can get into trouble if some of that information falls into there. so that's the lawyers part. third is they're a bunch of sneaks who want to steal your stuff. there's a lot of apps out there doing that. you can go ahead and sign up, give them permission. then go back into your phone and deny them permission. but that isn't always foolproof. one way to go. >> thank you, michael. moving on, in today's wellness report, the first signs of alzheimer's. >> and the fallout from spanking. here's jane king. long before alzheimer's can be diagnosed clinically, increasing difficulties getting around can be an early sign.

new research from washington university in st. louis says spatial navigation or finding your way around a place was more sensitive about predicting alzheimer's than other tests. spanking a child leads to bad behavior. that's according to researchers at the university of texas at austin and the university of michigan. the study analyzed 75 different research reports involving more than 150,000 children that spanned 50 years. it found there is no positive outcome between spanking and behavior. spanked kids they said are more likely to be aggressive and anti-social. childhood obesity is not down in the u.s. despite some reports to the contrary. in fact, the duke university study says severe obesity among children is on the rise, especially among minority children. 10% of teens now have severe obesity according to the researchers. and the yogurt giant dannon tapping into the public's growing concern about the source of its food. so it's establishing a direct pipeline to some farms that supply the company with milk. the new supply system announced

. the drive to develop self-driving cars is evident and federal regulators are setting safety rules. david louie is live at stanford. >> reporter: ama, it's an interesting dilemma. with autonomous vehicles you try to make driving safer and give

mobility to people who may not have it. but do you potentially stifle innovation if you create too many regulations? competition drives innovation. and a major focus is on creating autonomous vehicle that's are safer than cars with human drivers. >> we're here in silicon valley and everyone wants to talk about google. every major manufacture has work on autonomous vehicles going on. they need to work with all of us to make sure this reaches its life saving potential. >> reporter: the national highway safety aadministration is developing regulations for autonomous vehicles hearing from stake hoerlds? >> vehicles that are totally autonomous challenge us. even if the data suggest that's humans are pretty bad drivers some people feel we need proof that cars without humans is safe. >> reporter: one of those critics is john simpson with consumer watch dog. he cited 15 months' worth of failure data from the google self-driving cars.
