the bay area. abc 7 news was in east san joes aas firefighters fought a fire that jumped to a mobile home park. at least two mobile homes burned. one resident lost everything. >> i tried to open all the hoses with water, but the fire just started to my face. so my neighbors said you cannot stay there so they pulled me out. >> other neighbors grabbed hoses and did what they could to try to stop the flames. this is video provided by the fire department. what caused the original fire is unknown. a crash on an east bay freeway left a truck drive badly burned. we show the charred remains of a big rig that caught on fight on interstate 580. two trucks crashed with one becoming ungulfed with flames.

the fire spread nearby. two lanes are open in the area. another fire today gutted a houseboat on the oaklandest we're. no injuries, but a close call. we are live at the marina with the story. >> reporter: this boat, the damaged one is right behind me here. they moved it to this location and put a boom around it to contain any fuels that might be leaking. this is actually someone's home. two other boats were damaged, but nothing like this. it went up in a matter of minutes just afternoon the 35-foot houseboat at the end of the marina and quickly spread to the boat in the next berth. >> it was a very long way out here. there's no fire hydrants in close proximity to this location, but once we were able to make access we had the stroech line down the pier. >> reporter: small harbor patrol

boats converged on the ma are reasona. >> as you see the damage had been done. >> reporter: brown is the harbor master. are you feeling lucky it didn't spread more. >> yeah, the wind was blowing in the right direction. >> reporter: the houseboat where the fire started was completely destroyed. the boat next to it also had some serious damage, but roxy survived with just minimal damage. >> one of the sails is a little melted and the sail covers got a little bit sinned and the glass port holes cracked. >> reporter: the woman who lives on the boat was not home when it started. in oakland abc 7 news. it's been a noisy day as crews got ready for the upcoming fire season. abc 7 news caught up with the

crews as they trimmed back brush. there's lots of brush this year. they want to make sure if there is a fire embers won't set off fires. >> reducing some of the brush in there so they're carrying it to something not as likely to catch fire. >> the brush control will allow residents on top of the hill to evacuate safely if there's a wildfire. peak fire season starts in july. the toll from last summer's wildfires will be felt for quite some time. a new report says the number of new housing units in the state dropped for the first time since the start of the economic recovery. the report says it's due mostly to the 2,000 homes lost in those fires. a drifter accused of two separate killings pleaded guilty and will testify against two other suspects in court. he pleaded guilty to second degree murder which has a sentence of 15 years to life.

the two other suspects still face charges. the victims were killed last october. the da believes the testimony will help put the other two suspects in jail for life. >> it's important to us that the remaining two defendants face what we believe is appropriate which is the possibility of a life without possibility of patrol sentence for these murders. >> the da will not seek the death penalty. the police department plans to require all its officers to complete crisis intervention training. the department says the training is meant to better equip officers to interact with mentally ill people in crisis. it aims to give the officers the tools to deescalate situations. this is a collaborative effort with the county mental health department. the sheriff's office is looking

for a 27-year-old man missing since thursday night after he went out to meet somebody. we are live with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: this is the apartment complex where keith was staying and his friends tell me that he left and went across the street to the pancake house where he was supposed to meet with someone. they say he was wearing black sweat pants and a white zip up and he hasn't been seen since. friends spent the day wallpapering missing person's posters. green was last seen thursday night around 10:10 p.m. >> he vanished and nowhere to be found. there's so many stories going on i don't know what to believe. >> reporter: detectives say here's what they know. >> his cell phone was found unattended the next morning in san francisco's golden gate

park. >> reporter: a hiker found the phone. it's unclear how it got there. green left key items behind at the apartment complex where he stays across the street from the pancake house. >> he left his car and wallet so that raised some suspicion with us. >> reporter: suspicious to detectives. >> as of right now we have no information that suggests any foul play of any kind. >> reporter: green had been staying with a family friend the last six months. >> he's a little bit like having a grandson. >> reporter: she says he was going to meet his exgirlfriend to work out a custody issue. >> i gave him a hug and said stay true to yourself. >> reporter: friends are desperate to find him. >> he has two beautiful daughters that need their dad. >> reporter: they're hopeful someone will recognize him from pictures and call detectives. a youth swim club is still without a pool to call home after the one they had been using for decades suddenly

closed. they had been using the pool at the gulf course. the course said they had to close it right before the start of swim season because of financial problems. they are meeting with the gulf course to try to reach a compromise. people who use the bridge that crosses the openest area are going to need to find a new way to get around for the next two years. the bridge will be replaced with a new and improved one that will allow kayakers to cross under it. it will close next wednesday and not reopen until may of 2018. the city is asking bikers and pedestrians to use 7th street as an alternative way around. the chicken that's ruffling some feathers in the north bay. >> they need to stick within what the guidelines are and they haven't. >> coming up. the metal sculpture that some say is more eyesore than art. the airplane seating that triggers air rage. what apple just did that it

from one end of the state to the other and they all serve with their own unique cultures, but bound together by honor and by duty and courage. >> two of the officers were from the bay area officer michael johnson and sergeant hun ward. apple stock did something it hasn't done since 1988. it closed down for the eighth consecutive day. it reported a drop in shares for the first many years. it's been a rough year for apple. the stock dropped five points on the first trading day of 2016 and is down nine points overall this year. airlines are flying high in the u.s. the transportation department reports that america's 25 passenger airlines had a profit of $26 billion in 2015 up from 7.5 billion in 2014.

isolated showers may show up wednesday morning, but a better chance of showers for thursday morning. at noon time we're still seeing a few showers. we fast forward thursday night going into friday and computer models are bringing in a chance of rain. friday around noon continuing into the evening hours. as far as rainfall totals they're going to vary by friday evening and that covers a couple of days. tomorrow you're looking at mostly cloudy skies and the south bay you may see partly cloudy conditions. temperatures will come in lower than most areas. inland areas are quite mild. seven day forecast the temperatures will continue to go down through thursday of this work week so you'll notice upper 50s to upper 60s on thursday and holding there on friday when

three new planet may provide the best chance yet of detecting life elsewhere in the universe. the earth like plan it's orbit close to a small star that's about 1/8th of our sun. all three have one side facing the star and one side facing away. one side is hot and one side is frigid, but areas in between might be perfect. the plan it's are 40 light years away which is practically in our backyard. the ultimate goal is to find not just the ingred ants of life, but some indication that alien life is there. a small city is challenging the idea that girls are better at leading than boys. researchers found that boys outscore girls on reading tests if they're told the test are a game. boys scored lower than girls when told the tests are an assessment of reading skills. girls read more often than boys.
