fulfill the purpose of my life. >> trump is making it clear he's sticking to his most controversial promises, last night he told nbc he still intends to ban muslims from entering the country and deport 11 million illegal immigrants. and trump has already launched the search for his running mate. he put former rivals ben carson and chris christie in charge. trump said he wants someone who knows politics and would be willing to consider kasich and marco rubio. south carolina governor nicki haley was also mentioned. she says she's flattered but not interested. some are speculating that trump may tap former house speaker newt gingrich. trump is trailing hillary clinton in the latest national poll by double digits as voters look at the general election. 54% would support clinton compared to 41% per trump. both candidates are struggling with favorable ratings. clinton is generally popular with her own party. clinton still has to get

it really is. it's always the first saturday in may. this year it's going to be may 7th. the quintessential drink is the mint julep. first of all, make a mint simple sir up. basically one part water and one part sugar in a pan. bring it to a boil. stirring to dissolve all the sugar and water together. then, add one part mint leaves, stems and all. off the heap, let it stir and steep like a tea. what's left over is this beautiful mint simple syrup. >> how long do you steep for it? >> for about 20 minutes. >> to build the perfect mint julep, it has to start with a little bourbon. and this is 2 ounces of whiskey reserve, which is the official bourbon, by the way, of the kentucky derby. >> i didn't know they had an official bourbon. >> they do. >> 1 ounce of our mint simple sur rip goes in. here is a twist, i like to have flavor setups. make the traditional mint jurks lep and then put in different

part of the discovery process. north of border a raging wildfire has forced nearly 90,000 people to evacuate western canada main oil city. the flames torched nearly 40 square miles and some 1,600 structures in ft. mcmurray. officials say all efforts to suppress the fire have failed. the cause is still unclear, unseasonably hot and dry conditions are continuing to feed it. fortunately so far no reports of death or injury. temporary cease-fire has taken hold in the embattled city of aleppo, in syria. the army made the announcement late last night. it's fighting opposition forces there. hundreds of civilians have been killed or injured during the attacks over the past ten days and hospitals have been destroyed. the cease-fire is expected to last only 48 hours. and an army captain has sued president obama over the legality of the war against isis, captain nathan smith seen there, argues the president failed to get the okay from congress. smith said his conscious and his vows to uphold the constitution

life. he opened fire, killing a co-worker and injuring at least two others before turning the gun on himself. police are calling this shooting a retaliatory act. a 27-year-old new mexico man has been charged with the kidnapping and murder of a 11 year navajo nation girl. the girl's brother said he lured him and his sister into the car after school, promising to take them to a movie. investigators say he separated them, sexually assaulted the girl before killing her with a crowbar and aabandoning the boy. he could face life in prison. new development into the investigation of prince's death. both the u.s. attorney and the d.e.a. have joined the probe. after a doctor said those close to prince called him in to help the music icon with a drug addiction. abc's eva pilgrim has the latest. >> reporter: a new bomb shell the very day he died, prince's inner circle was trying to get help for his addiction to pain pills. the wednesday night before his death, prince's reps contacted howard kornfeld.

an expert in pain medication addiction who runs a california clinic for what his lawyer refers to a life-saving intervention. >> did prince know about the intervention? >> yes. >> reporter: doctor immediately rushed his son andrew who works at the clinic on a red eye to paisley park. carrying a drug to help deal with addiction withdrawal. >> when he arrived he went looking for prince. staff representatives apparently found him in an elevator unconscious. one of the staff members started screaming. >> reporter: the plan was to give the medicine to a local doctor who was supposed to see prince later the same morning, but instead, according to his lawyer, andrew called 911. prince was pronounced dead at 10:09 a.m. just too late for prince to agree to go to california for long-term care under the doctor's supervision. sources tell us prince was found by his body guard. prince's personal assistant was also there that morning.

several buildings and hotels in the area lost power. crews finally managed to shut the water off, but the damage was already done. check out this huge sinkhole left right in the middle of the road. on the west coast, there it is, california has put a damper on youth smoking. the golden state has become the second state in the country following hawaii to raise the smoking age to 21. california will also start regulating electronic cigarettes, like other tobacco products. this includes chewing and smoking and vaping products as well. now the fight against the zika virus, somewhat unique approach the heah department is giving out free minnows to residents with backyard ponds in westchester, new york, that's just north of new york city. >> the idea for those minnows to eat the mosquito larva before they have a chance to hatch and potentially spread disease. we'll get some other ideas now about how to keep yourself safe.
