everything you've already done, but we've got work to do. and i really need your help to reach out to as many california voters as you possibly can. >> reporter: now, clinton was accompanied by the secret service, of course, there when she made her stop downtown. here at the school there was a tremendous amount of security, metal detectors and the like. it took quite some time for this large crowd to get through. there was a smattering of protesters, several bernie sanders supporters, and one woman who was upset that this venue was chosen, calling it disrupting to her child's education. she is a parent of a child here at the school. there were also a couple of hecklers inside the event. they called secretary clinton a liar. they chanted a bernie," but they were quickly drowned out by hillary clinton supporters. now, the secretary left here just a few minutes ago. she is now on her way to san francisco.

free and track live doppler 7 hd anytime. a jury must now decide whether an oakland man should be sent to death row following his conviction on charges of murdering two people. one of them an 8-year-old girl who was on a sleep-over. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas with the story. >> reporter: this outpouring of emotion from relatives of young alicia carradine came just moments after a jury found this man darnell williams of oakland guilty of her murder. >> i'm just so happy. >> relieved. >> nobody knows. >> reporter: alicia was just 8 years old in july 2013 and sleeping at aitd friend's house when williams came to the door and opened fire. apparently in retaliation for the killing of his friend earlier that day. he fired 15 shots into the home, killing alicia and wounding three others. he was also convicted today in the robbery and murder seven weeks later of 22-year-old anthony maderas in berkeley. >> yeah, i'm truly happy and truly thankful. i'm truly grateful my son is who

he was. >> we got closure today. we appreciate the closure we got. >> reporter: relatives of the victims were asked not to make any more comments until the stps sentencing phase of the trial is over and the lawyers are under a gag order. darnell williams was convicted in nine felony accounts with enhancements. they make him eligible for the death penalty. court reconvenes on monday may 16th. that's when the jury will begin deciding if darnell williams deserves the death penalty. in oakland, eric thomas, abc 7 news. there are several major developments in the 16-day-old hunger strike against police shootings in san francisco. supporters have stormed city hall and taken over the rotunda as we speak. the protest is happening after the five hunger strikers were taken to the hospital earlier today at the urging of a doctor monitoring their health. a spokesperson says the protesters will continue their hunger strike from the hospital

suing one of its biggest landlords, the academy of art university. here is a look at the school's sprawling real estate empire, 40 properties across the city. the city attorney says the properties are filled with permit violations. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is in the newsroom with the story. vic? >> dan, this is the lawsuit. now, city attorney herrera says the family that owns the academy has been getting away with violations of the planning code because they're rich and politically connected. >> academy of art quite simply is an egregious land use -- >> reporter: city attorney herrera minced no words. academy of art thumbed its nose he said at building code regulations for a decade, that it set up a web of corporate affiliates to purchase and lease properties for the school's use, properties that could have been used for low-income housing. >> they unlawfully deprived 300 residential dwellings we

desperately need. >> reporter: supervisor scott wiener. >> you can't buy up rent-controlled apartments and convert them to student dorms. >> reporter: the academy has been the subject of nearly two dozen planning commission hearings this past decade for permit violations. the commission has been working with the school to resolve problems. but herrera says he's run out of patience. >> again and again, aeu met our good faith with bad faith. >> reporter: supervisor aaron possess kin a long-time critic of the akd minute's real estate empire. >> the academy has played san francisco for a fool, but that is coming to an end today. >> reporter: herrera's lawsuit targets 23 of the 40 properties the academy operates in the city. james brosnahan, the school's attorney, says the lawsuit was unnecessary. >> we have made a settlement offer as i say, which is a very important part of this picture. >> reporter: brosnahan says they offered the city $10 million. the academy would lease an 89-unit building for affordable

housing and build new student housing in the future instead of buying existing buildings. in the meantime, brosnahan says he'll continue working with the planning commission. vic lee, abc 7 news. oakland mayor libby scaaf says a solution to the troubled dispatch system is closer than ever. it went down again yesterday, preventing officers from sending and receiving information by computer. >> the good news is that when the radios went out we were able to right away get up on that regional system and get everybody out in the field safely, in communication, and that is the permanent solution that we are making great pro dwres towards. scaat says the city is in negotiations to switch over. critics including the police union say the transfer can't come soon enough. sad news to report. a beloved penguin which caused a sensation by wearing a wet suit has died after decades of delighting fans.

and carmel valley and one toward monterey. the area of low pressure that's been trirging the thunderstorms around the state bringing high elevation snow, california is getting its share right now, it's going to keep the potential for some more showers and isolated thunder in our forecast. so san jose camera showing you the cloudy skies right now and the temperatures look like this. it's a cooler day, upper 50s san francisco, oakland san jose, 55 in half moon bay, a live look from lake tahoe, they've been seeing snow at the highest elevations above 8,000, 9,000 feet. now, going into tomorrow and sunday, they're looking at some more scattered showers and some thunder. temperatures right now in santa rosa 60, fin in napa livermore 61. and there is some low cloudiness and fog around the golden gate bridge. you'll want to be careful if you're stepping out tonight. scattered showers through tomorrow, chance of isolated thunder. it will be brighter and milder for mother's day. we bring in the storm impact scale, rate our storms 1 to 5. we've done this all winter and sprin. 5 is a severe storm. we haven't seen any of those.

most have been 1s and 2s. current system going into saturday is a 1, a light system. look for more showers, rainfall up to 0.40 inch and we can't rule out thunder as the low moves into southern california. and moisture wraps back around. 7:00 tonight we'll still see some showers primarily over the hills. we have a little bit of a break until tomorrow morning, 4:00 a.m. while you're sleeping hopefully another round of some rain comes through. 8:00 a.m. it's pretty widespread, light to moderate in intensity. then we head into noontime, just some scattered showers around, becoming spotty in nature until 7:00 p.m. when that next batch comes through primarily in the north bay and then slipping toward san francisco. by 10:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. it wiepds down saturday night. as far as your rainfall totals are concerned, i have to be honest with you, most models have been overdoing the amount of rain we're expecting. could see up to 0.40 inches, but it will be a lot like today where we saw the brief downpours and then it's done. temperatures low to mid-50s.
