>> it's saturday, may 7th. thanks for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. here's lisa argen, meteorologist, she's tracking the green on the screen. hi, lisa. >> hi, chris. we rate our storms from 1 to 35. the light system today could spread from a couple hundredths to over .2-inch. rain and possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. it's confined in the north bay and the delta right now. dough bagga bay, marshall, dillon beach getting wet weather. out toward the north bay and further north throughout the delta looking at mount st. helena and middletown some showers and then through vallejo, highway 37, 80 and perhaps a little further south maybe some showers across the

san pablo bay. as we widen the va you notice the cloud cover across the golden state. this has to do with an area of low pressure that continues to rotate in some showers around the top of it. it will eventually slide to the east and we will be enjoying some dry, sunnier, milder days starting tomorrow with mother's day. 56 san jose. 55 half moon bay. the winds relatively light. pretty much out of the south today. and those mid-50s from napa to concord, 53 in livermore. so we will look for some showers to sneak through the rest of the bay. time it out for you and look at the week ahead featuring warmer conditions coming up. chris lisa, thanks. break news out of sacramento. a chp officer has been hospitalized after being hit at a traffic stop. it happened around 4:45 near the 15th street off-ramp. the freeing is now closed in that direction as the investigation is underway. at this point it's not no one if the officer was inside or outside of the vehicle when the

collision occurred. developing news out of the san francisco this morning. 25 angry and frustrated protesters, part of a huge crowd of demonstrators, were arrested and booked after refusing to leave city hall while demanding the resignation of police chief greg suhr. protesters accuse the department of police brutality and unnecessary killings. the crowd actually knocked down a metal detector and used it to prop open one of the doors. demonstrators chanted outside mayor ed lee's office before being forced downstairs. the protest was in sympathy with the hunger strike of the so-called frisco five. all five have been hospitalized but are refusing to be force-fed. they said they may take it outside the mission police station where the hunger camp has been cleaned up. >> more news out of the

san francisco. a prominent attorney killed at her own home. marla zamora worked for the san francisco public defender's office for 29 years. a man found at the crime scene is being questioned. here's dan ashley with the details. >> flowers lie on the sidewalk out outside the potrero hill home of marla zamora, a former long-time public defender in san francisco who was stabbed to death friday morning. >> poor marla, i can't believe it. i've known her since she moved in in the '80s. >> the neighbors watch as investigators walk in and out of the building on arkansas street. the next door neighbor did not want to be on camera, but told us he heard yelling and saw some more with bloody inher backyard. he said he's in shock. >> marla had a heart of gold. she was everything you would want a public defender to be. she fought hard, she had tremendous compassion for her

clients, and she handled some of the toughest cases. >> this includes defending edwin ramos, sentenced to life in prison for the triple murder of a man and his two sons. he had mistaken him as rival gang members. police have not released information about the suspect, but if the public defender's office is asked to represent that person -- >> for obvious reasons our office could not represent anyone charged. marla was one of us. >>. >> and that was dan ashley reporting. hillary clinton brought her campaign for president to the bay area on friday and did not play any favorites. she visited both sides of the bay beginning with this campaign rally in oakland and ending in san francisco. here is abc7 news reporter leslie brinkley. >> the next president of these united states, hillary rodham clinton! june 7th. in san francisco, leslie brinkley, abc7 news. >> last night in oregon donald trump attacked hillary clinton and bill clinton. he said bill's affairs and hillary's treatment of the women involved goes beyond any comments he's made. >> he was a disaster and she was an unbelievable nasty, mean enabler, and what she did to a lot of those women is disgraceful. as they are going after me with women? give me a break, folks. no one respects women more than donald trump, i'll tell you, nobody. nobody. >> next week donald trump will meet with house speaker paul ryan and other gop leaders to make a case for their support. tomorrow donald trump will appear on "this week" with george stephanopoulos. you will hear what he says about earning support from the american people. longer need an election information pamphlet sent to them. they can see it on their tablet. there is a dashboard where voters can find out about the candidates, propositions and issues on the june ballot, as well as mark a practice ballot. the dashboard can be found on the home page of the election department's website. and just a reminder, even with the dashboard, you still have to vote. in the east bay, el~cerrito police are on the lookout for this package thief. surveillance video shows her walking up to a box on monday on richmond street carrying an empty decoy box. she rang the doorbell, and when no one answered, she switched boxes. the resident said the box contained clothes for her daughter. 6:07 is our time. the mother of a seven-month-old girl with a rare heart condition has decided to leave her on life support at the children's hospital as they lack for other options. she was denied a heart transplant by boston children's hospital this week. transplant was thought to be the last hope for her condition that

caused only half of her heart to develop. doctors in boston and stanford and ucla denied the transplant because they believed her body would reject a new heart. a bay area family said they were trying to protect their highly allergic flight and they were kicked off a flight. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo tells us it was all about peanuts. >> this two-year-old has a severe peanuts allergy. the doctors told them to be cautious. >> we casually told the flight attendant our son had a peanut allergy and asked that peanuts not be served in their area. they refused. >> but they were still willing to fly. >> we were just sitting there like normal and they came and said you need to get off the plane. >> it was an alegionent airline flight. they released a statement saying in part that the third-party

organization that includes on-call medical doctors available to provide guidance advised they not fly on that flight. >> he was not expecting all the attention his story received and he was not expecting hate mail. >> weaver been called overprotective helicopter parents, called all sorts of names. >> he said they are only trying to bring attention to the allergy issue. >> it's a bigger issue than we got mistreated and kicked off the plane. that's not why we want to be in the press, but more to just help those in the future. >> we spoke to a passenger whose child also has a severe allergy. she said she understands the airlines' decision, but the parents understands reality better than anybody else. as long as they surround their surroundings they can usually manage. >> allegiant ended up booking the family on another airline. abc7 news. >> lisa is here now. you are tracking rain in the forecast? >> that's right. it could be on the light side. numbers range from 51 in los gatos to 58 in oakland. from the roof camera you see the

>> one of san francisco's biggest landlords is facing a lawsuit from the city. the academy of art the university owns 40 properties in the city and the city attorney says they are getting away with numerous code violations. vic lee has the story. >> academy of art is an egregious land use. about >> he minced no words. academy of art thumbed its nose at building code regulations for a decade. that they set up a web of corporate affiliates to purchase and lease properties for the school's use. properties that could have been used for low-income housing. >> you deprived san franciscans of housing in the midst of our

affordable housing crisis. >> the academy has been the subject of two dozen planning hearing meetings. they have been working with the school to resolve problems. a supervisor, a long time critic of their real estate empair. -- edge pier. >> the academy has played san francisco for a fool but that's coming to an end. >> the school's attorney said the lawsuit was unnecessary. >> we have made a settlement offer, as they say, which is a very important part of this picture. >> he said they offer the city $10 million. the academy would lease an 89-unit building for affordable housing and build new student housing in the future instead of buying existing buildings. in the meantime he says he will continue working with a planning commission. herrera is asking for hefty fines, as well as a permanent injunction, ordering the academy to restore units which the city attorney said it took illegally from the city's housing stock. vic lee, abc7 news. >> in fremont community members

are stepping up to support the meals on wheels program after its delivery truck's vehicle was hijacked thursday. two people are booked on multiple charges. now the program is hoping to move forward. >> it is a bold act that left many people stunned. >> how awful is this to happen and to all the people who needed that food. >> in fremont two people tried to take a car from a woman at walnut plaza but were unsuccessful. following that attempt they ran to city hall and took a meals on wheels truck. it was being stocked by volunteers. >> i heard the screaming, turned around and chaos. >> volunteer deborah powell was there and saw all of it. >> i have never seen anything like that. >> having the truck be stolen like that is unthinkable, unbelievable >> the two suspects led officers on a pursuit from fremont to castro valley which not only ended in their arrest but major damage to the truck which is

only a year and a half old. program officials said it will likely be a total loss and are relying on a backup truck built in the 1980's. >> we have 380 people we have to serve every day and they count on our meals. we have to be here no matter what. >> the fire department will house the damaged truck until it can be officially assessed by the insurance adjuster. meals open wheels said they will need to raise thousands of dollars. meal recipients say they are grateful the program will press on despite the unexpected expense. >> a lot of bad things, and we still have good people. we meet a lot of good people this way. >> to learn more about how you can donate, we have a link on our website, abc7news.com. happening today, the wait is -- a chance for your fourth grader to become a junior ranger. this is part of the golden gate

national recreation area. the jamboree is celebrating 1900th is birthday of the national park service. as part of the celebration young people will be encouraged to learn about national parks and they will even be sworn in as junior rangers. the fun begins at noon. lisa argen is here now with the accuweather forecast. when all the kids head out there, how will the weather be? >> there will be scattered showers around. we won't get rid of the showers until later on today. that's why it's a 1 on the storm impact scale. we rate our storm systems from is to 5 throughout the winter and spring and this week not only have we seen showers but even some thunderstorms. over a third of an inch yesterday in livermore. gilroy picked up a tenth of an inch and we heard some thunder. a system that's encompassing much. state will allow for some activity to continue throughout the day. here's live doppler 7hd. you knee a smattering of some light rain hear. it's been mainly in the north bay. a few showers around santa rosa.

right now we are looking at wet weather around heelsburg. highway 1 and out toward the coast lane. also around pope valley. but towards the delta, 580, vacaville and fairfield. some wet roads is and through the sierra nevada it should be wet. a see the activity is off the shoreline now. as we put it into motion you notice from the sierra nevada, reno through the sacramento valley, that's the trajectory from the north and east. kind of different. we are looking at the rivers and streams running pretty high here. throughout the day today not only the northern sacramento valley but the san joaquin valley and even los angeles could see some showers. we will start out with the mild temperatures in the 50s and by the afternoon with all the cloud cover, not going too far. and look at the shower activity. really from chico all the way down to san diego. could see some scattered showers. 61 in yosemite. and yesterday around stockton they saw over a quarter inch of

rain. so throughout the valley here and the coast, some light rain perhaps and as we take a look outside you will notice all the cloud cover out there. san francisco 55. as well as half moon bay. it's 56 for you in san jose with oakland coming in, one of the warmer lockings. 58. 53 morgan hill. from the roof camera today giants game, we will see the chance of a shower. temperatures will be about 60 by 1:00. right any we are in the low 50s for the north bay. east bay valleys and 55 concord and fairfield. so from our roof camera, cloud cover out there. and is a cool average with scattered showers on tap today. a chance of an isolated thunderstorm. brighter and milder tomorrow for mother's day. when the sun returns, temperatures will climb into the low to mid-70s. so this is how isolates going to look the rest of the day. by 10:00, 11:00, notice very, very light shower activity, north bay, east bay. and continuing noontime. we could see some showers into

southern marin county throughout emeryville perhaps and hayward. 680. then by 2:00 in the afternoon, could see a thunderstorm perhaps and the south bay getting set up with some wet weather. 8:00 still the possibility of some showers and we will look for high pressure to build in after that. in terms of amounts, we are looking at lax like light amounts from livermore. a couple hundredths here, maybe a tenth in santa rosa and perhaps less than that throughout san carlos and oakland. so if you get caught in a shower, you could see a little bit more than that. but overall with the cloud cover, uniform temperatures, 66 in oakland with 67 san jose and livermore. the accuweather seven-day forecast. so tomorrow mid-70s inland with sunshine for mother's day. upper 60s around the bay. about 5 degrees warmer monday. we will keep the temperatures kind. stare stepping, increments 2 to 4 degrees warmer each and every day through the middle of the week and slightly caller by friday. so today just a little bit unsettled.

extends through knoxville and down through be mount state helena. hercules, 80, richmond and across the richmond-san rafael bridge, maybe a light shower for you. a broad area of low pressure continues to spin in light showers throughout the day today. here's a look at emeryville. temperatures ranking from 54 in morgan hill to 58 oakland, 55 half moon bay and mountain view and sfo right now the wind are pretty light. you see the cloud cover. 54 napa, fairfield and concord with 53 in livermore. san jose looking at gray skies this morning. throughout the afternoon we should see about 67 there. a slight chance of a thunderstorm and low 60s on the coast. we talk about sunnier conditions for mother's day. chris. >> thank you. canadian officials fear a massive wildfire could double in size by the end of today. it's burning out of control in alberta and showing no signs of slowing down. shifting winds could blow the flames into a nearby forest and more than 80,000 people have

all ready been forced out of their homes. abc news reporter neil tells us some people watched their houses burn to the ground. >> the dramatic image, flames bursting into a house by the living room door. james o'reilly and his wife barely managing to make it out. their fish tank and all their belongings left behind. watching it all play out on a security camera connected to their phone. smoke along the ceiling, filling the whole room. then flashes of light and crackling as their home is consumed by flames. scenes like that turning into this, row after row of charred homes and cars. trying to exit through had thick smoke and flames, the only way to get out. >> what's it been like driving through there? >> been mostly like an apocalyptic horror. >> dan and his family among 1500 cars escorted through the charred remains. flareups are keeping fire crews so busy, equipment cooled down with water. at least four moms going into labor as they fled, including

susan hardy. >> we are very fortunate and lucky that all of us got out. >> abc news, near fort mcmurray, canada. investigators say they want to interview a mill valley doctor and his son about a prescription drug brought to prince a day before his death. after an urgent request by the singer's staff. the doctor sent his son andrew to the paisley park home on april 20th with the drug. cornfeld runs the mill valley rehab recovery without walls. investigators are saying they are trying to determine if prince had a long-term relationship with the cornfelds. ♪ >> thousands of people, many dressed in purple, gathered at city hall in los angeles last night for a memorial concert to

honor prince. music legend stevie wonder sang purple rain, his signature song. he said losing prince was like moving a member of his musical family. the 57-year-old prince was found dead last month at his minneapolis home. >> a california climber and his friend are in the process of climbing mount everest and you can follow it all on snapchat. this is a video of him, his mountain guide and a friend. their goal is to reach the top while document being the entire thing on snapchat. >> we just finished right here. over 25,000 feet. aim pretty sure the highest human on the planet. >> man, is this beautiful! really intense! >> you can follow their journey by becoming friends with their everest no filter snapchat account. they appear to be getting very close to the top. >> this year's top student at u.c. berkeley is a millennial

who shies away from things like twitter and facebook. instead, she said, she has a greater connection to math and she will be receiving the university medal and deliver the commencement speech at cal next weekend. abc7 news reporter lyanne melendez has her story. >> we've proven a bunch of theorems. >> when she's not teaching a class in math to a cal students or volunteering at an after-school literacy program, this is what she enjoys doing the most, pure mathematics. >> it really never stops. we ultimately realize it's never ending. and keep questioning and dig deeper and hopefully arrive at something. >> hollywood has made a few movies about the math struggles and their struggles to make some kind of contribution in their world.

she has had her own struggles. >> i really was struggling to find motivation and reason to do anything. it took something pretty strong, i think, to kind of make me feel like i had a purpose. >> she found motivation and passion through her professors at cal. today she wants other women to know math is within their reach. >> oftentimes women haven't necessarily been welcomed by the majority of men, but i think we are in a changing society and i'm definitely optimistic. >> her other passion is playing harmonium, an instrument played in classic indian music. all of her work acknowledged with the university medal. >> in that sense it's been very encouraging for me personally, but at the same time i'm just -- feel a little overwhelmed by all of this. >> from here she's headed to mit m. i. t. to work on her ph.d. lyanne melendez, abc7 news. >> still ahead, a new look at google class. the device that simply didn't at first take off with consumers. coming up, lisa argen will have the full accuweather forecast in just a few minutes.
