warriors game. the stabbing death of a long-time public defender. alyssa harrington is live. >> reporter: police sources say marla was stabbed multiple times. friends are horrified. they've been stopping by throughout the day to leave flowers outside of her home. they tell me they believe she was trying to help this family member when she was killed. >> she was a force of nature. >> reporter: maria tearfully remembers her friend, marla zamora, who police say was killed by her own nephew yesterday morning. the women worked together until zarmora retired. >> she took me under her wing. >> reporter: we don't know what happened between her and her nephew. neighbors say they heard yelling, then saw her bloody in

the backyard. she had been stabbed many times. police arrested 20-year-old angelo zamora, found inside covered in blood. >> all i can say is she loved her family very much and she was always trying to help her family. >> reporter: all day, friends, former clients and co-workers stopped by to pay respect to the long-time attorney outside her home. gale added to the growing pile of flowers. >> she was kind and generous. she was a good neighbor. >> reporter: she worked for the public defender's office for 29 years. she set up a private practice and was still taking cases until her death. in san francisco, alyssa harrington, "abc7 news." in a rare move, the entrance doors to the main jail in san francisco were locked this morning because the jail was overwhelmed with protester arrests. last night, police armed with batons wouldn't budge as

protesters pressed into them calling for chief's firing. deputies arrested 33 people fortrefor trespassing. nine protesters were still being processed this afternoon. the weather now. a soggy saturday across the bay area. we're getting showers on and off throughout the day. "abc7 news" was in san francisco's mission bay neighborhood where the rains started late this morning. and we can expect more showers. you see the cloudy conditions live from our bay bridge camera looking east. drew tuma is tracking the rain on live doppler 7 hd. drew? >> a lot of cloud cover and the early morning showers. live doppler 7 hd right now, though, will show you the majority of the region is getting a break from the wet weather. we'll zoom on in, some isolated showers just to the east of fremont, but more wet weather is on the way.

officers followed the suspects to this hotel parking lot about a mile away in oakland. the driver lost control, crashed and several people inside ran away. police are looking at evidence recovered at the scene to figure out what happened. a missing elderly man from san jose is safely back home. 91-year-old roberto luis was last seen yesterday. police reported that he was safely located. fire damaged an apartment building today in san jose. an "abc7 news" viewer shared these photos with us. several people were forced out of the building. ten units were damaged by smoke or water. the fire department is still assessing whether people can return. not known how the fire started but preliminary findings suggest it was accidental. new was in south berkeley where flames damaged a building

education. there were events for kids and great food to try out. today, comic book shops across the nation handed out bags filled with free comic books. "abc7 news" was in berkeley for free comic book day. it's one of more than two dozen shops handing out the comic books. it's to thank fans for their support. publishers have handed out more than 12 million free throw comics in six years. you can save hundreds on leather furniture by buying an alternative. but some question the quality of bonded leather. tomorrow at 11:00, michael finney takes a look at what you're really buying in a special "7 on your side" investigation. right now, drew tuma investigates where the next round of showers might come in. a temporary lull in the activity after some light morning showers that moved across the region. live doppler 7 hd right now, overcast skies, just one lone

the showers tonight is a one and rainfall less than a quarter of an inch. midnight tonight, the showers beginning in the north bay, fairfield, going to sink south. in the early morgue hours on sunday, 2:00 in the morning, light showers across much of the region. 7:00 tomorrow morning, that shield of moisture is moving offshore, but we may have an isolated spot area of drizzle. midday, especially inland, we may see peeks of sunshine by the later afternoon and early evening hours. the clouds break down and we should see a good amount of sunshine to finish off our sunday. breaking down the forecast hour by hour, starting off with the overcast first thing storm morning, we'll call it peeks of sunshine out there and into the evening, more in the way of sunshine. by 7:00, we're drying out our skois under partly cloudy conditions and temperatures holding in the 60s. highs for tomorrow, 63 in san
