sprint away up the hill. buckley and other officers took him down and arrested him. that's when they found a gun. public defender jeff adachi has a different account. >> they went into court and just told bold-faced lies to the judge and to the u.s. attorney. >> reporter: after buckley testified, simpson's lawyers showed the court a security video from an apartment building near the intersection. it shows officer buckley and his partner arriving first and breaking up the dice game. they interact with simpson. there's no evidence he acted aggressively nor did he try to escape by sprinting up a hill. they grab him quickly and take him down. other cops arrive and help as they struggle with simpson on the ground. >> they went up to this man and basically grabbed him for no reason. >> reporter: after viewing the video, prosecutors asked judge breyer to drop the charges. the judge said the officer purr jurored himself and it was an affront to all of us and that he

was deeply saddened. in an unusual move, judge breyer ordered prosecutors to give copies of the video to chief greg suhr. brandon simpson was released yesterday, thanks to the video. vic lee, abc 7 news. a san francisco bicyclist ended up in the hospital after he was sprawling to the street after an accident with an officer. you can see the buy lick sift, the police car appears to be making a right turn on mission street. watch now. the light turns yellow. that's when the police car suddenly pulls left and hits the rider. this video was captured with nex ar, an app that turns your phone into a dash cam. we first saw it on street blogs sf. you can find a link to it on our website abc 7 news.com. a 26-year-old man is in the hospital with a fractured back after getting run over in an apparent road rage altercation in san francisco yesterday. police say it happened around 5:00 p.m. near fourth and market

streets. the cyclist got into an argument with the driver, the cyclist then banged on the driver's window and rode in front of the car. that's when the 18-year-old driver allegedly ran over the bicyclist. she was arrested. a car crash seriously injured a person in san francisco's mission district today. it happened at guerrero and liberty street early this afternoon. this picture from mission local shows a vehicle dented and impaled. look at that. firefighters were able to revive the injured person who was then taken to the hospital. they have not said what caused the crash. a tense standoff ended peacefully in san francisco today. abc 7 news was on folsom street when police escorted out a suspect. the man barricaded himself inside his apartment about five hours earlier when police arrived to arrest him. police said his wife received a restraining order against him yesterday. he'll be booked on suspicion of felony domestic violence. we are learning new and very graphic details of the shooting

death of a man in his home in the santa cruz mountains wednesday morning the the suspect andrew redman was captured trying to escape during a police pursuit. david louie is live at the hall of justice in san jose with new information on this. >> reporter: andrew redman is faig facing two counts of murder in the first case for murder during the commission of a robbery. but in a strange twist, the second count of murder is for a john doe. the only john doe we know in this case so far is the suspect's accomplice. 53-year-old andre redmond sat alone in his jail jumpsuit as the judge decided to keep him in custody without bail. prosecutors say he's the man who led sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase along highway 17 in this prius with a severely wounded man in the back seat. the sheriff's office report describes the two men as accomplices. redmond is accused of shooting and killing 52-year-old robert harden in his santa cruz mountain home with a shot to the hid. >> this was a violent home

invasion that took place. as a result of that home invasion, the victim, the individual who lived at that house, was murdered. >> reporter: harden was not home when the men entered the house. they encountered one of his children, a son, and held a gun to his head. they also beat him with a mallet demanding access to money and other valuables. when harden arrived home, there was a struggle and the accomplice described as an asian male was injured in the arm so severely the deputy said they found him covered in blood in the back of the prius when the car chase ended in campbell. the prosecutor is not speculating if that man had any connection to the victim. >> because of the fact that we have not even confirmed his identity, i don't want to speculate as to what his relationship to the victims may have been. >> reporter: the wife, siblings and close friends of the victim attended the court appearance but said they were not ready to talk to reporters. redmond's public defender says he may hire a private attorney. his next court appearance is may 31st. in san jose, david louie, abc 7

news. the trial for the man accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar nearly four years ago has been delayed again. we were in court today as the defendant appeared before a judge. his trial was scheduled to begin today. torres' public defenders told the judge they needed more time to prepare to represent him. lamar disappeared while walking to a bus stop back in 2012. her body has never been found. hayward police say someone stole a squad car from the headquarters parking lot early this morning. the officer had stepped away leaving the car locked with the engine running. police used gps tracking to find the car about 15 minutes later abandoned iks, intact and as you can see nothing was stolen. a vandal leaves his mark on a cross at the center of controversy in santa clara. you can see the "x" painted on the 14-foot granite cross located inside memorial cross park. it appeared after an avowed atheist filed suit against the

city demanding the cross be removed from public property. he calls it an affront to the first amendment. he's been joined in the suit by national group that advocates for separation of church and state. a man went to the hospital with burns from a fire in mountain view this afternoon. firefighters found the man in the back of this home on alice avenue just off highways 85 and 237. they pulled him out and gave him medical attention before sending him to the hospital for more full treatment. the fire started in the garage, which had several items stored inside. >> it always presents a challenge when you have a lot of stuff in there. we were able to get it open and firefighters were able to get him out. >> the house is listed for sale. neighbors say an open house was scheduled for this weekend. new video takes us inside a plane that crashed near lodi yesterday. the plane full of skydivers started having engine problems shortly after takeoff. the pilot tried to return to the airport but the plane dipped into a vineyard. it crashed into a truck and

flipped. here's some gopro video showing the moment of impact. >> oh, my god! >> you've got it. >> the skydivers relatively calm under the circumstances. none of the 17 passengers were hurt. the pilot had a bloody nose. some passengers got on another flight and actually continued to skydive. federal investigators plan to look at maintenance records now, weigh calculations and the pilots' qualifications to figure out what really happened. well, the lucky few are enjoying something truly amazing out in the bay and along our coastline. so we want to make sure that you get to see it, too. here is a live view from sky7 hd here the golden gate bridge, and what you are looking at are whale watchers watching just a really terrific show out there the last few days. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live by the water with the story.

>> reporter: you know, they just don't want to leave our area, and i don't blame them, dan. now, i spotted them at about 4:00 this afternoon and really nice. it was actually spectacular right behind me. now, about 3:00 this afternoon we spotted 3 three humpback whales at baker beach. they were spouting and feeding. proof of that were all of the marine birds around them, and that's exactly why they're here, attracted by a large number of anchovies that are going in and out of the bay. they prefer, of course, krill but they are found in colder, deeper waters. when a humpback finds a good source of food, they stick with it for a while. and when they run out, they quickly leave the area. and that -- >> they hunt around in the areas and if they don't find something in a certain amount of time they leave. these whales will probably stick around until they don't find

seek to accelerate the hiring of 768 new transportation security officers. >> we're not going to compromise aviation security in the face of this. we will not compromise aviation security in the face of characterizations of this as a national crisis. >> tsa officials say travelers need to take responsibility for the wait times as well. they released individuvideo tod showing some of the items passengers try to sneak through security. >> these are going to close the checkpoints and delay passengers, really delay passengers, until we can have an expert come and determine these are not real, and inert. still they're not able to bring them onto the plane. >> officials hope to make some progress before the summer travel season begins. as it stands now, some airports are telling passengers to arrive as much as three hours before their scheduled departure time. >> look at those lines. always amazing what people try to take on the plane. if you're heading to the airport, here are tips if you're

el cerrito high school says accommodating transgender students really hasn't been an issue on their campus. >> a lot of people look at theirself different. i mean, i can't -- i'm not nobody to judge somebody else. i just let people live how they want to. >> reporter: in 2014, california enacted a law the school success and opportunity act requiring school districts to provide access to school programs and facilities consistent with their gender identity. at el cerrito high, for instance, that means making sure transgender students have access to bathrooms. but that's just one step. >> i've not heard of any concerns about it from our folks who listen to those kinds of complaints and our principals and the folks at the schools. >> transgender people, they are what they want to be. like the whole point of the united states is to be free to be who you want to be, do what you want to do. >> honestly, i don't know why anybody would be upset about it. it's more frightening to have somebody hide it and for that to

lead into more consequences. >> reporter: besides the bathrooms, california schools are required to make sure locker rooms and other facilities accommodate transgender students without harassment or discrimination. in el cerrito, laura anthony, abc 7 news. some san francisco high school students got a valuable learning tool today. abc 7 news was at galileo high school as fire chief joanne hayes white handed over the keys to one of their retired ambulances. the ambulance will allow students to experience pre-hospital scenarios to better prepare for real-life experiences. >> a piece of equipment like i said saved many lives and helped people and will continue to do so as we train the next generation. >> our students will have the opportunity to use real-world equipment and apply their skills. >> galileo's health academy is a program designed to teach students science and explore

careers in the health field. >> that's fantastic. speaking of fantastic, this is a really good time to be a bay area sports fan. both the warriors and the san jose sharks are in the western conference finals. >> today abc 7 news was at the warriors practice facility in oakland as the team got ready for the oklahoma city thunder. steph curry got plenty of shots in and says he hopes to be 100% for game one monday night at 6:00 at oracle arena. and sharky from the san jose sharks helped ring the friday the 13th bell at the winchester mystery house in san jose. >> yes. last night the sharks advanced to the western conference finals of the the sharks haven't made it this far in the playoffs since 2011. i guess there was no friday the 13th bad luck. no. get ready to sit on the couch and watch these two teams. starting sunday, the sharks and warriors effectively play every other day until the end of may.

high. livermore dropped nine degrees, 70 as opposed to 79. as you're feeling it in gilroy, down to 66 today from 80 yesterday, 14 degrees. here is a live look at hazy skies from our mt. tam cam. temperatures in the low to mid-60s, currently 59 in half moon bay. as we look out toward the bay from our south beach camera, water is pretty calm right now, 66 in santa rosa and napa, near 70 in firefield livermore and concord in the mid-60s. sutro tower camera, you can see hazy conditions here over san francisco as well. drizzly start tomorrow morning, cooler than normal for the weekend. we are looking for a warmer pattern setting up next monday through wednesday. tomorrow morning, if your kids have games, there will be some damp areas due to the drizzle, upper 40s to the mid-50s. and it is going to start out with the overcast skies. now, take a look at our time line here in case you're stepping out tonight. 11:00 p.m. we'll have the low clouds and coastal drizzle. watch what happens as the system
