this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, may 15ing. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, carolyn. nice to have you back. good morning, everyone. we are look at low clouds and fog mainly along the san mateo coast. could see some patchy drizzle here but it's not going to last long. we begin to see the fog evaporate and we get into full sunshine. a slightly warmer day today. 57 mountain view, 49 in napa, 55 los gatos, 56 san mateo. warmer from san jose and livermore. the bay to breakers, we will have a few clouds around early, but they will soon , by 9:00,

be gone. so we will see sunny skies, near 60s. low to mid-60s by 1:00 and it will be breeze itzy by the coast. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. you mentioned that happening today and in just a few hours thousands of runners, maybe 60,000 or more than that will take to the streets of san francisco for the annual bay to breakers race. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana shows us the preparations. >> the barriers are going up. the tents are getting put in place, and the starting line arches are being assembled. bay to breakers is just a few hours away. >> nothing like running there. it's beautiful in the morning. >> michelle reyes just ran the boston marathon a couple weeks ago. she's part of the 40,000 participants that electric run from the bay to the breaking waves of the ocean beach. she's ready. >> a lot of energy, a lottery cup of monk whiching, not a lot of clothing. >> yes, there's the

scantily-clad runners and, of course, the elaborate and not so elaborate team outfits. >> what costume are you going to be wearing? >> an '80s theme. one of my best friends and i are doing it. >> as in recent years, alcohol is not allowed or the course and they have been working with neighborhood groups you have to porta-potties regularly available along the course. backpacks are also not allowed as a safety precaution. >> it came out of the boston marathon a few years back. >> starting time for the first group is 8:00 a.m. anyone hoping to get through the city in the morning needs to plan around the course. in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> and abc7 news will have complete race coverage this morning. we will stream live be aerials just before the start of the race, which is at 8:00 this morning. you can watch it through the abc7 news app, and enable push alerts to get race information as it happens.

workers are hoping africanized bees will be gone this morning. they are being blamed for the deaths of two dogs and attacks on several people. lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> this is the man tasked with containing and removing all of these aggressive bees. they took over a hone beehive in his backyard. >> they were quite aggressive yesterday. i got stung, my wife got stung and my son got stung through his bee suit. >> he's an amateur beekeeper. when he tried to collect hone, a swarm of bees that took over the hive escaped and attacked. the bees went to the neighbor's house. >> the dogs were killed. >> then the bees started stinging people in the street, including the mail carrier. >> she was shaking violently and said they are on me.

>> they were following us and going after us and banging on the windows. it was like a horror movie. >> this is a wick tower she took from her window. the bee association sent a member to investigate. >> this is the worst action i've heard of in our area. >> experts aren't sure how the africanized bees got here, but once they do it's only a matter of days before they can overtake and repopulate a honey beehive. they issued an alert, warning people to stay inside. abc7 news. >> in the north bay chb officers rescued a one-year-old and a five-year-old girl from a burning car. these are pictures from the firefighters facebook page showing the fire on highway 101.

it happened friday night. the children were not hurt. the press democrat reports their mother, laura jones, was speeding and refused to pull over for officers. they used spike strips to slow her down and sparks from the car rims then started that fire. the chf beliefs jones, the motor, was high on meth. in sacramento an armed man was arrested after are a tense standoff yesterday. he surrendered after officers had a house surrounded for nearly six hours. when officers arrived they say a man pointed a weapon and also threw a pipe bomb at them. fortunately no one was hurt. four people were inside the home. police believe they are friends of the suspect. it's unclear what set that man off. police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl near the el~cerrito bart station thursday night. the man shoved the girl to the ground and attacked her.

she fought back. the man ran away on the green way toward the bart station. he's described as a hispanic man in his 30s. he might have scratch marks on his face and neck because the victim fought back. disturbing video has a bay area family ever accusing hayward police of using excessive force. they have this video ever what happened recording what happened after a traffic stop. >> what are you doing? >> now this man's family is raising questions about how police should handle and restrain a suspect. it's a story you will see only on abc7 tonight at 11:00 "quantico." >> people gathered yesterday urging state lawmakers to take a stand. they were at city hall for the

rally organized by the group "transform california." members called on state leaders to sign a pledge opposing discrimination against gay people. and this man's 8-year-old granddaughter is transgender. >> it will take a lot of patience and love on our part to make sure they move through this journey in a way that will be positive so our young people don't have to be through this fear. >> as you might know, last week president obama directed school districts nationwide to allow transgender people to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity, not their birth certificate. >> santa clara's mayor has this message for the 49ers. pay the city back. our media partner, the mercury news, reports the mayor lisa gilmore has ordered a $200,000 audit to find out what the team owes for police and firefighter

staffing at levi's stadium. some costs were paid by the city's general fund. the 49ers have an agreement to cover safety and security costs at all nfl games and special events. this morning pg&e crews will begin work in castro valley above i-580 to make improvements to electric towers and powerlines. from 6:00 to 9:00 this morning workers will use helicopters to install a safety net above the freeway between crow canyon road and eden canyon road. two lanes in both directions of 580 will be closed between those exits. if you are driving that way, you should expect brief delays or plan to take a different route. lisa argen here now talking weather. >> yeah. it should be pretty nice. it was cool yesterday. we finally saw some sun, and the sun earlier. it should be slightly warmer. still a pretty aggressive sea breeze if you are at the coast. 55 san francisco. 58 oakland.

temperatures today on the rise after a rather cool day yesterday. lisa argen along shortly with the full accuweather forecast. state lawmakers want california's coastal commission, the agency that makes decisions on shoreline development, to be more transparent. a newly-proposed bill would ban members of the commission from meeting privately with lobbyists, developers and environmentalists. legislation came after the commission quietly fired their executive director in february. supporters of the bill told the l. a. times the firing was an attempt to make the agency more friendly to developers. last thursday the commission voted to support the bill. >> my hope for you is that you can find that gratitude, not just on the easy days like today, but on the hard days when you will need it. >> that's facebook cheryl sandberg delivering a deeply

moving, profound commencement speech at yesterday's graduation ceremony at u.c. berkeley. sandberg spoke about the sudden-death of her husband just over a year ago. she urged graduates to show resilliance and gratitude even in the most difficult times. in her speech sandberg said her husband's death taught her to be more thankful of the simple things in life. the family of an oakland man killed in a crash has received a college degree in his honor. this video from lincoln university in missouri, where the family of darryl blackman, received an honorary degree in sociology yesterday morning. back in 2014 he was on his way home after working three jobs when his car slammed into a guardrail on highway 101 in mill valley. the abc news eye team reported a flaw in the guardrail's design may have led to his death. police in san bruno are keeping a close eye out for drunk drivers and educating

teenagers at the same time. abc7 news was in one of the police cars for a special dui saturation patrol ride along last night. san bruno police have a program called you deter that allows students to sit shotgun and see how officers spot impaired drivers and what happens on a dui traffic stop. program is designed to stop teens from driving drunk. it also helps inspire those who hope to join the force one day. >> i want to be in the near future a police officer myself, and i want to get a real feel of how this whole things work. having some experience knowing about all of this, and i can tell my friends and family members how it's just not safe to drive under the influence. >> for more information on the you deter program, head to our website abc7news.com. it looks a lot different. >> yeah, it does. thousands of people are celebrating the return of a key

art institution in san francisco. after three long years of expansion work, the new sf museum is now open and it may set the standard for how museums are built. cornell barnard shows us. >> a shower of confetti rained down on howard street, signaling the grand opening of the san francisco museum. three years of renovation and $305 million of private donations later the wraps finally came off thena museum and folks got their first look. >> what's the wow factor here? what do you think? >> the building. >> we are bigger but we are much better. >> he said there's a lot more room from the original museum built 21 years ago. >> we have tripled the amount of square footage we have dedicated to art in the building. >> the new collection is impressive. several norse house the private

the demanding course covered hundreds of scenic miles throughout the state. cyclists start in san diego today and they will make their way up to santa rosa next saturday for the seventh stage. santa rosa will be the only bay area host city this year. the tour will also feature a four-day, four way women's race for the first time and that that's thursday, may 19th. but today all eyes on the bay to breakers, lisa. and the weather? picture perfect. >> that's right. we will have some clouds to start out and maybe some drizzle along the coast, but by 9:00 it should be getting pretty sunny out there. live doppler 7hd. we have a couple areas of clear skies in the north bay. that's a switch from sonoma to santa rosa. elsewhere we have the low clouds and we will be looking at the visibility to be improving. here's our roof camera where you can see the warriors blue there in san francisco in the

mid-50s. 58 in oakland, mountain view and morgan hill. san jose checking in at 59 degrees. from our sutro tower camera, looks pretty good. we just have some low clouds and numbers ranging from the upper 40s santa rosa and napa. that's where it's clear and we are getting the cooler numbers. 50 in novato. 54 by the delta with the southwest wind about 10 miles an hour. 56 in concord and livermore 57 degrees. we start our warmup today. but we will be looking at that breezy wind at the coast. so the sea breeze kicks up. it could be up to 30 miles an hour by this afternoon. low clouds and fog this afternoon for some. and we will look for sunny skies with the winds up to perhaps 30 miles an hour once that see breeze gets going and the warmer days, even though we are coming up a few degrees today, really the warming trends that you will feel pretty much around the bay tomorrow, tuesday into wednesday. and then things are really going to dramatically switch. so you will notice how quickly that fog evaporates and by 3:00

not only do we have sunshine but the temperatures will climb to the 70s in the inland east bay. here's a look at the beach forecast. maybe a little cool for you today, but at 56 degrees the water temperature, you will see that we are looking at numbers even at the shoreline to be pretty comfortable. but remember, you will have that good west wind at numbers in the low 60s from ocean beach to half moon bay. so we will look for the warmup to begin really in ernest on tuesday. notice the 90s coming into play. you have to go far inland for that. and then really by wednesday you will notice that the numbers begin to come down just a few degrees. it's short lived again. tuesday, wednesday, this is what like what we had last week. it didn't materialize as much as we thought it would this week. still comfortable to cool on the coast. mid-to upper 60s. how about 72 in san jose, as well as los gatos. sunny in sunnyvale at 70.

san francisco mid-60s today. remember the winds kick up later on in the afternoon. 74, santa rosa. napa 75. so really a better day today. we waited pretty much all afternoon some of you for the sun yesterday. 69 in san leandro, 70 union city 80 antioch and 74 livermore. this morning we have the clouds, maybe a little drizzle. san mateo coast. then quickly clearing, 60 at 9:00. and by 11:00 to 1:00 loto mid-60s. the accuweather seven-day forecast. we have the breezy afternoon today, and then more sun. look at the warmup. it's a quick one tuesday, wednesday, and then a big cool down, could even see showers in the north bay into friday and maybe saturday. so another kind of impressive trough headed our way. are you holding up, carolyn? you need some coffee or something? >> it's been a long time. three months. had the knee surgery. and thank you for coming and hanging out with me a few times. >> oh, yeah, fun.

overboard from a carnival cruise ship 200 miles after the texas coast. the coast guard was not contacted until hours after she disappeared. abc news reporter marcy gonzales has more on the race to find her. >> the coast guard scouring part of the gulf of mexico for this mother of four who went overboard from a cruise ship. the carnival liberty was heading from galveston to cozumel when they say samantha somehow fell into the water from the tenth story of the ship. her friends didn't realize she was missing until later that day and notified carnival staff. as the crew searched, they also checked surveillance video, discovering her fall was caught on camera. soon after 5:00 friday evening, the coast guard said they were notified. a full 15 hours after she went overboard. >> because see much time passed, it definitely makes it more difficult to find somebody and

save them. >> cases like this are extremely wear n2014 there was one overboard incident for every 1.2 million cruise hangs. carnival says as a save guard they are now testing alarm systems like this. [whistle] >> that sound when someone goes overboard. although the cruise line claims those systems have historically not been reliable. >> the coast guard said they will keep searching for broberg for as long as she could still be alive. her family says they are hopeful. a about. c news, new york. >> a group of teenagers is talking about their brush with disaster after escaping from a burning limo on the way to the prom. the high school students from massachusetts smelled smoke in the wide stretched limousine friday night. ten teenagers and the driver escaped unharmed moments before the limo burst into flames. >> smoke started flying past the

windows. smoke was everywhere. we got out and backed away and two minutes later flames started flying. >> it was very scary. >> it's unclear what caused the fire. the group caught a ride to the prom in a passing trolley. >> you might remember this limo fire on the san mateo bridge in 2013. five women died. opening statements began earlier this month in a lawsuit against ford for that accident. an investigation by the da's office determined the cause of the fire was a mechanical failure. not any criminal negligence by the driver or the limo company. the women's families are suing ford for wrongful death. the hillary clinton campaign has released a new online video taking aim at donald trump's refusal to release his tax returns. the video features a series of interviews with trump on several tv networks, including abc news. when asked by george

stephanopoulos what his tax rate was, trump responded, it's none of your business. clinton has yet to release her 2015 tax returns either but ♪ other tax information is available on her website. trump says his returns are still being audited and will not be released until that is done. donald trump is working to win over gop leaders as the presumptive republican presidential nominee. today the chair of the republican national pension, -- convention, along with the committee chair will weigh in on "this week." i can watch those interviews on "this week" with george stephanopoulos at 8:00 this morning right here on abc7. a pie hot is dead after his plane crashed while performing a stunt at an atlanta airshow yesterday. the pilot crashed while flying in tandem with another plane during an aerial acrobatic stunt. witnesses say that plane was doing a maneuver and was unable

to pull out of a dive because of high winds. the faa and ntsb are investigating. it was the first accident in 30 years of that atlanta airshow. you have seen the stories, car thieves hack being their way into cars by penetrating the wireless technology that's become standard in newer models. well, now a security researcher who is working with car manufacturers has found out how criminals are gaining access. >> the criminal would essentially take this device and plant it underneath the car. as soon as the user of the car unlocks their vehicle, this now has a code that is stored and can be used later on. when the criminal returns to the vehicle they can take this device from underneath the car, press the button and unlock the vehicle. >> right now the thieves can only break in, but the researchers say it's just a matter of time before the hackers will figure out how to start your car and drive off.

running of the bay to breakers today. so thousands of people expected in san francisco. the weather here and elsewhere? >> well, you know, no real changes to the beach forecast anyway today. in terms of the sea breeze. that will stay intact with the sun yesterday. more sun this afternoon and starting out with the cloud cover along the san mateo coast. even patchy in san francisco. live doppler hd we are looking at mostly cloudy conditions for some of you, but this will quickly clear and we will begin to enjoy a sunnier day but the sea breeze will kick in. you will feel it here and at the beaches. it will be quite gusty at times. 55 san francisco and half moon bay. 59 in san jose. 58 mountain view and morgan hill. oakland, a pretty decent start. from our sutro tower camera, look at that. some of the low cloudiness there coming in under the golden gate. very patchy. but the san mateo coast could

see a little bit of drizzle w the clear skies in santa rosa 48. looking a the 54 by the delta. southwest wind at 10. novato 50 degrees. 56 concord and livermore speck speck -- checking in at 57. some patchy clouds. some on securing the official sunrise in about ten minutes. pretty nice out there. patchy low clouds to morning. sunny skies, breezy winds at the coast and up to 30 miles an hour at times. we look for the significant warming trend tomorrow into tuesday. beginning to cool in some spots on wednesday. and as for today, we are going to see a bit of a warmup away from the shoreline. look how quickly this clears. by, say, 10:00 we've got full sunshine. and looking at temperatures coming up just a little bit in some parts of the bay. partly cloudy skies in the northern sierra at 59 degrees. it is windy around san diego.

look for 67 there. some clouds along the coast from monterey to 83 in chico. we will look for temperatures to warm quickly into tuesday. look at that, some 90s for this forecast model. 92 concord. 89 in livermore with lots of 70s across the bay. still cool at the coast. not looking at anything except that onshore flow here. as we go into wednesday, notice some of that red begins to retreat. we will be in the 80s still in san jose and near that on the peninsula. in terms. highs today, throttle once again lots of 60s and 70s. a couple numbers out toward fairfield and antioch reaching near the upper 70s or 80s. low 70s today in san jose. 70 san rafael. breezy at the coast and 66. and palo alto checking in just a tad under 70 degrees. so this morning starting out with the clouds. certainly south of san francisco.

upper 50s by 7:00. 60 at 9:00 and then it's sunny and cool. the winds kicking up throughout the day in the mid-067's. the accuweather seven-day forecast. near average tomorrow, warming up. less wind on tuesday and wednesday. that will allow temperatures around the bay and inland to warm significantly. then the sharp cool-down. this is the system from the pacific northwest that not only will bring the cooler temperatures. we could see some showers in the north bay friday and saturday. so kind of not totally unusual, but not ready to put it on the seven panels there. >> quite a change. >> yeah. >> thank you, lisa. the warriors play game one of the western conference finals against o k.c. tomorrow night at oracle arena. before the warriors use that slogan strength in numbers, there was "we believe." abc7 news reporter laura anthony has an insider's look you will see only on abc7 news. >> he's open! >> it's hard to remember now,
