live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> what are you doing? >> disturbing video tonight as a bay area family accusing hayward police of using excessive force. good evening. i'm eric thomas. that family says the officers used excessive force on james greer even after he said he suffers from medical problems. dan noyes is here with an eye team investigation you will see only here. >> it began as a traffic stop, but the situation quickly escalated and was captured by four police body cameras. the eye team obtained video from all of them. we warn you that some of this is tough to watch. this is james greer as his family remembers him. >> he was the glue that always kept everyone together. >> even after their divorce james and dina and the kids

stayed close. in may of 2014 police pulled over james greer for driving erratically on mission boulevard in hayward. the police report said greer got out of his vehicle, but would not participate in a field sobriety test, but it appears pr the police body camera video obtained by the eye team that greer does cooperate with officers, at least in the initial minutes. >> do you have any weapons on you at all? >> no, i don't. >> you will follow with your eyes only and not your head. >> he is the greer family attorney. >> i think the officer that stops mr. greer that first engages him did a great job. i look at the video and i see a professional officer. >> at one point greer explains he has a stomach hernia and knee injury. >> put your feet together like this. >> okay. >> only one police camera is rolling and it is unclear how many officers are present. at some point many units respond including bart police. >> i think the situation escalates when mr. greer is spooked by the strong police

presence and takes a couple steps back. >> don't be walking away. >> wait, wait, wait, wait what are you doing to me? >> police attempt to handcuff greer who weighs 380 pound and his arms don't reach the cuffs. >> what are you doing? >> multiple officer get on top of greer. >> when was on the ground i hear him screaming in agonizing pain. >> mr. greer, you need to stop resisting or you will be tased. put your hand behind your whack. put your hands behind your back. >> police report tasing greer three times and then they applied a restraint device called the wrap designed to safely immobilize a suspect. six and a half minutes after putting him on the imrownd the -- on the ground the officer turned greer over. we are stoping the picture here because it is disturbing

twitter. crews responded to the area around 8:45 tonight. a car caught fire while mechanics were working on it. abc7 news was at the shop minutes ago and it was still smoldering. the firefighters evacuated next door as a precaution. they burned power lines and pg&e is outdoing repairs. no one was hurt. a portion of the great highway in san francisco is closed tonight. police shutdown the highway between lincoln way and skyline boulevard around 6:00 p.m. because of blowing sand on the roadway. the winds were as strong as 30 miles an hour. shortly before the closure the sand caused the motorcycle to skid and injure the driver. thousands took part in one of the wackyiest san francisco events today. sky 7hd was overhead for the the bay -- bay to -- beta

breakers. serming yow is live with more on -- sergio is live with more on today's clean up and aftermath. sergio? >> eric, as you can see this are picking up the pieces of the starting line of beta breakers. the pleat released the -- the police department released the earlier number. there were fewer citations and fewer arrests and a park official tells me their crews had to pick up less trash compared to last year. >> there were collections of bottles on the ground and plastic cups in chain link fences and food debris all over the panhandle. but they say this is an improvement. >> it is a whole different vibe. it is bad, but not as bad as it's been. >> the state of the park is just as bad for some visitors. >> we keep it altogether and keep it in the bag and keep it in boxes and bring our mess with us. >> figures on the amount of trash collected have not been released, but crews have collected more than 10 tons of

their family is asking for witnesses to come forward. >> we want justice. we want justice for my brother john. >> my brother didn't deserve this. who ever did this is a coward. you don't just stab a person in their neck and think they will walk the streets and not get in trouble. >> police have nomo tiff or suspect -- no motive or suspect information in the case. the pittsburgh city council will vote tomorrow on whether or not to install cameras. they have seen a half dozen shootings since last june. the most recent was last wednesday near railroad avenue. lilian kim is in pittsburgh tonight with the story. >> she was shot and killed in a car on wednesday and it was the third fatal shooting in the past 11 months. six shootings in all. she was stuck on the freeway when it happened. >> they veered everybody off the freeway, but i was stuck there for awhile. i knew somebody was dead, but we didn't know it was a senseless shooting. >> witnesses say the car was shot repeatedly by someone in a white mercedes. a vague description.

with cameras the hope is that police will be able to collect more information on such shootings. >> somebody said we saw a car, but it doesn't tell us much. they say we saw a white car and it doesn't tell us much. if we have a camera we have a visualization of what happened. we can see the car and see the actions. >> pittsburgh residents say that makes perfect sense to them. >> you get license plates and facial feature. i am for it 100%. >> the plan is to put cameras along the city property. the same type of cameras pittsburgh has throughout the i city, 80 total. they provide 360 degree views and can view up to a city blofnlgt the cost is $100,000. >> we need more cameras everywhere so we can catch these people because it is ridiculous and this is out of control. >> the mayor says the cameras he has has proven to be successful as they help them solve a number of crimes.

into a street fight. you can even see a man punching a woman. after the fight the truck driver backed into the car and sped away. the car took off after them. police are trying now to track down everyone involved. the suspicious device found at the manchester stadium was a training device left from a recent exercise. they found the device yesterday and the stadium was evacuated and the match postponed and a bomb disposal unit was deployed. the training device was accidently left by a private company following an exercise involving explosive search dogs. you are looking at new satellite images of the aftermath of a wildfire in alberta, canada. these images are available to evacuees released by an app from the government. they can see if their homes survived. 2400 structures have been
