investigating the shooting of a man at a party packed with children last night. we are live at the senior center where the shooting took place. >> reporter: inside a first co munn yun ceremony was under way and outside one of the guests was murdered. just a few minutes ago police identified him as a 28-year-old man. the victim was one of nearly 100 people enjoying a celebration at the senior center. police say even though there were lots of children around, someone deliberately started shooting just after 7:30 last night. >> we do not believe at all this is a random act of violence. we believe this is a targeted homicide. >> reporter: according to the lieutenant as the shots were fired, a gray mini van with several passengers peeled out of the driveway and collided with another vehicle in front of the

center before hitting a utility pole. in fact, it was that crash that officers first responded to before learning of the murder. they haven't been able to catch up with those individuals in the mini van and aren't sure what role they may have played. >> we do not know whether or not they were involved in this homicide or whether or not they fled when they heard the gun shots and were trying to get away to safety. >> reporter: this woman said she heard the shots and saw the chaos. >> they were very loud. there were about eight rounds of shots. we looked out the windows and saw people running. >> reporter: police are reviewing surveillance video from the senior center and nearby businesses as they investigate. meanwhile the center which services hundreds of elderly clients cancelled many activities today. abc 7 news. right now police are on the lookout for a man wanted for the

death of a concord woman. they're looking for 26-year-old eric nelson. the woman was found dead in at duck pond early this morning. investigators have not said what happened. they believe nelson may be driving a black four door kia spectrum. they say not to approach him if you spot him, but call 911 immediately. some developing news we'll go back to now. a dog's death is is a criminal case. the dog died after visiting a groomer. abc 7 news reporter vick lee is live with the latest from the police station. >> reporter: all of this happened shortly after 5:00 yesterday evening at the petsmart store. police arrested the 38-year-old groomer at that store. the owner of the dog has three datsuns. he said there were no problems with the first dog when he took it in to be groomed, it was the

second dog that died. the owner told police it was soon after he left the dog with the groomer when this terrible thing happened. here is the sergeant of the police department. >> about three minutes after the groomer took the dog in the back to be groomed the groomer came running out saying the dog was having a medical emergency. the owner could see the dog was foaming at the mouth and had blood in its mouth. >> reporter: the groomer then reportedly rushed the dog to a hospital, a veterinary hospital which is right adjacent to the store an x-ray determined that the dog had two broken ribsened a a punctured lung. police say they are certain it was no accident. he has been charged with felony animal cruelty. he's been booked in the county jail. abc 7 news. >> all right. seven robbery suspects all under the age of 18 were taken into custody today after their car burst into flames during a

chase. cell phone video shows the car on fire before firefighters were able to put it out. police were searching for the vehicle since last night. they say it's suspected in several armed robberies in oakland. today officers spotted it on park boulevard and chased it for 20 minutes. abc 7 news was on hand as won't down. >> there was this car stopped in front of the neighbor's house which is right next to ours, fire underneath the car and the policed their guns drawn telling the kids to get out. >> yeah, a lot of excitement here. >> the oldest suspect arrested for their crimes, 17 and the youngest just 13. no one was hurt. the sexual misconduct investigation involving oakland police widened today. a fourth officer is on leave. no officers have been named.

claims of sexual misconduct surfaced after the suicide of an officer last year. he left a note in which he named the officers he claimed were involved with the underage daughter of a police dispatcher. for three days an east bay neighborhood was attacked by what may have been africanized bees. leah will explain how they could have gotten here in the first place. >> reporter: you can see these are european hives and they're gentle and they don't bother anybody. the owner of that hive was about to collect honey and move his hives when he encountered a major invasion. these are not africanized bees.

still they're known to dwattackn large numbers. that's what happened last friday. >> i'm pretty sure they're africanized. it was a huge cloud of bees. >> reporter: they aren't meant to be here, but in 1956 the african bee was brought to brazil. bee keepers thought they could produce more honey and they made the africanized bees and have been moving north. >> they slowed in coming up to our area. they stalled for a long time. in the last 150 miles it took about ten years, but they're still progressing. >> reporter: they are hyper defensive. somehow they invade in the original hcive and they stung to people and killed two dogs. >> if it wasn't for the two dogs

getting killed it wouldn't have been that bad. >> reporter: the took the owner three days to get rid of the hive. he says there is a way to manage the africanized bees. >> it's why we need more bee keepers is to be able to monitor that and then reclean with a queen. >> reporter: a gentle queen would begin the process of recolonizing the hive. we are live now over the arena because the warriors will be in action tonight together it's going to be busy there. >> you can see the traffic situation as the fans start to arrive. the warriors tip off against the oklahoma city thunder in game one of the western conference finals in less than an hour. >> we have coverage of the action. abc 7 sports director is inside the arena. >> but we'll begin with laura

anthony with one fan attending the game tonight. >> reporter: this is the hottest ticket in town and much of the country, but for one family this is a chance tonight to share some good times to make some good memories out of a very tough situation. >> we are so excited to be able to see this game. >> reporter: scott whittamore has been watching the warriors for 25 years mostly from home and like his life his team has seen tremendous highs and lows and now in the toughest of times he will see his team in person. >> we're going to have a great time seeing the warriors. it's really special. >> reporter: the 58-year-old man has terminal brain cancer and he and his family are at the point where they can only make the best of the time they have together. >> people were so generous.

>> reporter: that's why his 25-year-old daughter and friends set up a go fund me page so they could see a game together. >> throughout this whole or deal he's never complained once so we'll followed his lead and focussed on what positive things we can do together. >> reporter: thanks to the go fund me page and a donation from the site game time they have tickets to the game one western conference finals. >> what warriors give to us is all was the hope that never gave up. >> reporter: scott and his family haven't given up, but they have learned to accept the hand they've been dealt and embrace the good times their favorite team has given them. >> i predict that the warriors will win six games. >> reporter: in oakland, abc 7 news. >> they're going to do it. >> yeah, they are. steph curry is healthy, but the warriors have some injury questions tonight.

>> larry is inside the arena. hi there, larry. >> reporter: before we get to some of those stories, i want to touch on the scott situation because i moments ago talked with a member of the warriors community relations staff. they're aware of his situation very sensitive to it and care a lot about all of their fans. they said they're going to reach out to the family tonight. i don't know if it's going to be tickets to future games, but they promise they're going to take care of him and contact him tonight. as for what's going on behind me, we have warmups. green is in a unique situation. he has four tech in practice he has been practicing keeping quiet if you can imagine that and the warriors hope that he can remain in control. >> he knows when to draw the

line and if he comes close he walks that line, but i would be shocked if he picked up a seventh technical. i would also be shocked if he didn't pick up a fifth and sixth. >> no call has ever been changed based on somebody arguing, but just focus his energy on playing and he should be able to do it. >> reporter: he is so important. he can't afford to be suspended. the challenge is less lip. andrew update, watched him warm up for about 15 minutes, appears to be fine. doesn't look like the thigh injury is going to be a problem. i would expect he would start tonight for the warriors against the thunder. we'll be back at the top of the 6:00 news with another preview of this game as we look ahead to game one. live, abc 7 news.

electronic carmaker tesla is facing a shocking charge that one of its subcontractor is paying foreign workers below minimum wage. abc 7 news reporter is live at the tesla factory with reaction. david. >> reporter: tesla says it is investigating what happened, assuming it's true. it says company values kindness and fairness, but a worker says he's a victim of no one taking responsibility for what happened to him. this 42-year-old man was recruited last year to bork on a new paint ship addition to the assembly plant. he was promised $12.70 based on a 40 hour work week. he would get some deposited to his home country now. he fell from a scaffolding a

year ago today suffering multiple injuries that put an end to his work and pay. he has received pay equivalent to only $5 an hour. >> they didn't take care of him and they were making decisions to speed up production for -- you can figure out the reasons they want to speed up production and they took short cuts and people have gotten hurt. >> reporter: the question is who is responsible, tesla or the contractor working on the paint shop project or the subcontractor who hired him. daniel is with the economic policy institute. >> i'm surprised that somebody got caught. i think that companies will do whatever they can get away with and in the immigration system there's not a lot of enforcement going on. tesla issued this response to the investigative story. if they were being paid $5 an hour, that is totally unacceptable. if the claims are true tesla

shows airlines are getting better overall at letting us use the miles. there are big differences between airlines. southwest honored nearly every requester fo a seat, honored every request for a seat making it the top domestic carrier and american had seats only about half the time. 56% when picking a frequent flyer program. you must check on how fast can you acquire miles and how easy is it to use those miles. there is a new use for your 529 college savings plan money. you may be able to use am so of that cash to buy your student a computer. there are new rules for the upcoming fall enrollment and it includes allowing 429 money to be used for computers, software and internet access. this must be used for education while the student is enrolled in an eligible college.

sunshine at sfo and a live look right now temperatures in the low 80s. 76 napa and 79 in livermore. today's high so far in the upper 50s to upper 80s. we're going to bump those temperatures up. we see a beautiful day in santa cruz. breezy and cooler later this week and showers are possible by the weekend. so we have something for everyone in this seven day forecast. fog around near the coast tonight. it's going to be with us for the morning commute so it's not completelily going away just yet. we're looking at some patchy fog for the morning commute along the coast. upper 40s to 50s for your range for temperatures and watch what happens for the afternoon. the fog will burn off. sun will be out and everyone will see the warming continuing. 70s at the coast line to the 90s inland. it is going to be a warm to hot tuesday afternoon. highs for your tuesday will look like this. 89 in gill roy. 87 in san jose.

gun groups sued the county over an orderance banning the selling of guns. the law expands the second amendment to protect gun sellers. one of the three judges dissented calling the case a zoning dispute dressed up as a second amendment challenge. members should not expect to see a tow truck. the company says instead of trucks it will deploy bicycles equipped to supply what they call rapid response. the bikes are made by the uba. aaa says 60% of calls don't need a tow truck. that's a good way to get exercise. exercise can reduce your risk of more than one dozen types of cancer. a new study shows that people who did an average of 2 1/2 hours of exercise a week reduced their risk of cancer by 7%.
