woodrow joins us live with the details. melan melanie? >> reporter: ama, investigators pulled down the crime scene tape that had been surrounding a large perimeter of this park in front of the lake where this man haes body was found. they pulled down that crime scene tape late this afternoon but not before doing something else first. they drained the lake soifrping for evidence. san francisco homicide investigators along with the medical examiner's office spent morning investigating a suspicious death. a city gardner found a man's body facedown in the lake. >> that the point, all that homicide can say is that it does appear there may have been a strug elf. >> reporter: investigators drained the lake searching for clues. at least 12 evidence markers line the path outside the lake. at one point officers expanded their perimeter. >> it looks like there may have been more evidence. >> reporter: though investigators would not say what. >> i find it pretty odd it was in the front of the park. >> reporter: people who walk through the park to get to worker were surprised to see an

active crime scene. betsy ricks says the investigators asked if she recognized the victim. >> they showed me a picture of an older gentleman, said he was the person who had been found this morning, asked if i had seen him or if we had any camera that's might have picked something up. and i hadn't seen him. it's just eye very sad situation all around. >> reporter: several nearby restaurant employees said officers had been by their businesses as well. in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. santa rosa police say the shooting of a 15-year-old boy last night appears to be an attempted suicide by cop. officers responded to a coffee park around 11:30 last night after receiving a report of a man with a gun. now police say an officer shot the boy in the foot when he pointed a handgun at him. investigators say the weapon the boy had was actually an air soft pellet gun. they believe the boy removed the orange tip so officers would shoot him. they also say the boy was the one who actually phoned in the report of a man about a gun. that boy is now undergoing a

psychiatric evaluation. police are asking for help finding this man. they've now been looking for him for more than 24 hours. 53-year-old shoe make is accused of setting fire to his vallejo house sunday morning. his son 5-year-old died in that fire. police say shoemake set the home on fire while his family slept reportedly after an argument with his wife. she made it out but suffered severe burns. her 13-year-old son also survived. anyone with information should call the vallejo police department. right now san francisco police are searching for two men who followed a family home and then robbed them. this happened last night inside a home at twechth avenue and nor reaugh area street. they took a wallet and took off in an suv. one victim had a minor injury. animal act visits are trying to get a state bill designed to protect pets. it would allow people to smash animals to save animals from lot

cars. under the bill, people must first determine the vehicle is locked and try to contact the police, fire or animal control officer. there's a smelly problem on del monte beach in monterey. hundreds of thousands of dead red crabs are covering the short line there. experts say they're usually found off baja but el nino currents are pushing the crabs to the north. a seen like this played out on orange county beaches last week. this phenomena is also bad for local fishermen. the warm el nino waters are preventing nutrient rich water from rising in the surface. impacting squid fisherman. time to turn to our weather and take a live look ott our emeryville cam ray. >> spencer christian is here with our accuweather update. >> hi, a little bit gray and overcast today. we still have some instability in the atmosphere, but the active weather has been on the periphery of the bay area. here's a look at live doppler is

sailing into the holiday weekend i'll have the forecast in just a moment. >> thank you, espner. in san francisco, parents and teachers rallied this morning to sue pour 8 teacher who spoke against a district policy. parents say she did it to keep students safe. >> abc 7 news reporter lie an melendez with more. >> reporter: students have been choked. shave been slapped. they've been given death threats almost daily. errants say they have come from a single child in the first grade at monroe elementary. but parents are not blaming the student. instead, they are supporting the teacher who they say didn't get the needed resources from the school district to deal with this student. >> to me, she did a fantastic job dealing with this difficult situation. >> reporter: in 2014, san francisco unified adopted the safe and supportive schools policy which says teachers must use every tool to avoid expelling or sending a student to the principal's office. even the teachers union supports the policy. >> so the policy is something we

po believe in that kids should be in school. >> reporter: but parents tell us the teacher erica kill complained to the principal and was then asked to leave. >> that has remainchild has rem the classroom without proper support. >> reporter: san francisco union i fied said there's instructional coaches and behavior specialists available. because this is the teacher's first year with the district, she is a probationary employee which means that she can be terminated without cause. the district calls it nonreelected. but the school board could vote to bring her back. >> so in this particular case, which i'm not fully familiar with, certainly the school board could rescind the decision. >> reporter: but board apprecia member matt henney says it hasn't happened under her leadership. in the meantime, parents and teachers vow to keep protesting until the teacher is allowed back. in san francisco, lianyanne

burlingame. campbell and all the bay area. this is abc 7 news. abc 7 news was at the bay bridge, the old bay bridge, as caltrans began to lower and dismantle another truss. crews made an unexpected discovery just before the demolition today. they found four -- the international bird rescue group is incubating those eggs. caltrans is trying to discourage the birds from nesting in the old bridge but some tenacious ones got through. now, today crews began removing the third out of five truss that's need to come down. we've got a live look for you as the work continues on the demolition of that bridge and work ask expected to wrap up on this section tomorrow. working moms are getting a boost today from the city of san francisco. >> legislation has been introduced to help them continue breast-feeding after they return to work. abc 7 news anchor kristen sze is here with the details. >> larry and ama, for now the effort only involves for moms who work for the city. it does not apply to other homes. the legislation introduced today

make it's easier for moms to keep breast-feeding ave they return to work. it would allow employees to use normal paid breaks to pump. employees could also request additional unpaid break time. the legislation also calls for more rooms like this one. it's a converted bathroom at city hall that provides a comfortable lactation space. it includes a sink, refrigerator and hospital-grade pumps. the room even has inspiration posters for new moms a far cry from using bathroom stalls. >> if you're stressed or there's noise orring in going on, it's difficult for the milk to come out. when you're relaxed an you feel comfortable, then the milk flows a lot more easily. >> women account for 40% of the city's full-time workforce and 66% of its part-time workforce. according to a c dr c report from 2013, only 16% of women exclusively breest feed six months after giving birth. city health officials hope to boost that figure. the legislation will likely be

ifltsz users more troom to get their point across. the san francisco-based company sent out a tweet today saying in the coming months we're introducing new ways for you to express even more with a tweet. starting soon, photos, videos and other media won't count against what is now a 140 character limit. the change is yet another attempt by twitter to attract new users. the company has struggled for years to find a cue for slow user growth. >> i can't be contained by 140 characters. >> who can? magazine is getting exactly what it wanted today and that is attention. >> take a look. that's yahoo!'s embattled ceo marissa meyer kpikted as jesus christ on the cover of "variety" with the caption the end is nigh. abc 7 news reporter matt keller takes a closer look. >> reporter: reaction to the illustration of the yahoo! ceo carrying a y-shaped cross and the words "the end is nigh" drew some passion alt responses. good god, what was variety thinking with this marissa meyer

as jesus cover? with writer sophie kleiman calling it an exercise in poor taste. responses her in the south bay were mixed. >> it's just blasting a woman who's in power who's a strong person, ceo of yahoo! and minimalizing her. and i just think it's wrong. >> i mean, think he ne who what they're in to. i don't know. it doesn't bother me any. >> reporter: "variety" released the article at about 9:00 a.m. it was entitled yahoo!'s false prophet how marissa meyer failed to purn the company around. while the controversial cover got a lot of taepgs but the actual words seem to be more of the same criticism she's faced over her four-year tenure. it had people calling meyer out of her depth, a miej crow kmanger with no real understanding of the media business and liesing the revenue battle with heavyweights google and facebook. yahoo! does note issue a response to the art i kell but as for the cover a spokesperson said, running that cover illustration is variety's own burden to bear. and no matter what variety

overnight hours we'll see little pockets of moisture passing through the bay area, 5:00 tomorrow morning as the morning commute gets under way there may be a few isolated spots of wet pavement, bear it that in mind. we're not expecting widespread showers at all. overnight lows will be generally in the low to mid 50s then on we go to tomorrow's highs under partly cloudy skies with a chance of some isolated showers mainly in the higher terrain of the north bay. we'll see high temperatures tomorrow rang ranging from around 60 on the coast to upper 60s around the bay and a few low 70s inland. let's move ahead to the warm-up i talked about starting on zpa, we'll see highs on the coast ranging from low 60s to low 70s around the bay upper 70s to near 80 inland mid to upper 80s. let's move ahead to sunday, a similar range mid to upper 80s inland some 70s on the coast upperer 70s around the bay and monday memorial day? similar pattern as well, temperatures may drop a degree or two, a coast along locations and right around the bay from

sky7 hd shows emergency responders on the scene in san leand leandro. david louie is there and we'll have a live report an abc 7 news at 5. a hillsborough woman who is accused in the killing of her ex-boyfriend appeared in court today. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is on the story and tweeted this picture of tiffany li's mother and brother at court. hear from li's attorney ahead also in a live report on abc 7 news at 5. the zika virus is naiking headlines again world news tonight tweeted that officials fear thousands may have contracted the virus before returning to the u.s. at a conference today, federal health experts say they're concerned zika will continue to spread. comedian bill cosby will stand trial in of a sexual assault case. here he is leaving his first hearing in the case. abc news reporter elizabeth hur is in norristown, pennsylvania, with the new details. >> reporter: bill cosby and his defense team now preparing for a showdown against accuser andrea constand in court.

>> we're here because we want to seek the truth. we're here to serve justice. >> reporter: a pennsylvania judge siding with prosecutors and ruling there is enough evidence to proceed with a criminal case. cosby stands accused of drugging and sexually assaulting the former temple university employee in his pennsylvania home in 2004. the judge reaching her decision after hearing from three officers involved with that initial investigation. including the detective who interviewed constand. that detective testified that constand told police cosby gave her three blue pills an wine. she couldn't talk, had blurred vision and was paralyzing. >> it was intoxicating to her athat she was unable to consent. that's the crime. >> reporter: cosby's defense team has maintained the comedian is completely innocent of the charges and that the encounter was consensual. they tried to argue that were inconsistencies in constand's statements to no avail.

constand is one of more than dozens of women accusing cosby of sexual assault and misconduct, but this is the only criminal case filed against him. attorney gloria dd allred who represents several other women in civil utes reacted after the ruling. >> i think that was the right decision based on the law and based on the facts. >> reporter: and after the hearing, cosby's defense team said in a statement they have no doubt this case will be resolved in their favorite. elizabeth hur. an egyptian official is dismissing claim it's was an explosion that brought down egypt aerate 04. earlier today a forensics official suggested that burn marks and the small size of retrieved human remains suggest an explosion brought down the plane with 66 passengers aboard. the plane's black boxes have yet to be found. a s.w.a.t. team boarded a plane after a threat was made against american eagle to

houston. you see that plane operated by campus airlines sign sitting on the airline. 76 passengers an 4 crew were taken off the plane after investigators determined that threat was not credible. a republican lawmaker says the head of the irs should be impeached accusing him of misleading investigators. utah republican jason chaffetz testified today before the house injury committee. chafe etsz said irs boss john caskenen lied and openly disregarded a subpoena. today's hearing stems from four-year-old -- of the tax exempt status of conservative groups. >> now in fair years, mr. koskinen was not there for the initial targeting. he was brought in by president obama as a turnaround artist, somebody to work hand in hand with congress to fix the problem. from my perspective he didn't fix the problem. he maefd made it worse. >> koskinen didn't attend the

well, check out this mess that was left behind after what apparently was a wild weekend at shasta lakes slaughter house island just north of redding. park ranger as rived yesterday and they found dozens of techbts, full coolersable much much more. these photos were shared on a facebook page and they implicate university of oregon fraternities. school officials called the mess disgraceful and promised they would punish those involved. san francisco city officials

have had a change of heart about a park policy that outraged thousands of users. this all began with a plan to take reservations at dolores park. carolyn tyler joins us live from the park with the story. >> reporter: well, larry, rec and park believes there is confusion about what it calls a longstanding policy but because of the uproar they will step back and try to gather more public input. dolores park in san francisco's mission neighborhood is one of the most popular in the city, especially after a multimillion-dollar makeover. that's why when word went out that rec rec and pac was taking paid reservations not just for picnic areas but for the lawn itself, this has been the typical reaction. >> i think that's really ridiculous. >> reporter: in fact, just since monday, a change.org petition against reservations has gathered more than 13,000 signatures and counting.

avenue around 1:30 this afternoon. david louie is live at the scene with the latest. david? >> reporter: kristen and dan, investigators and police and train crews have just now cleared the track here in san leandro. no one knows exactly how fast the a.m. trok was traveling at the time of the accident, though we're toldly amtrak that the maximum speed is 79 miles an hour. last year, 244 people were killed at crossings. amtrak train 532 was going north from san jose to sacramento when it struck the dark suv at a crossing in san leandro. the impact pushed the suv about a quarter mile down the track before the engine could come to a stop. >> it appear that's the vehicle that was stuck today was trapped in traffic, was stuck there prior to the railroad arms going down and was unable to get off the tracks safely before it was impacted at a high rate of speed by the amtrak train. >> >> reporter: inside the train

were a woman and a child described by about 3 years old. rescue victims were able to extract one victim but not the other. traffic is often heavy in the area. police say drivers occasionally find themselves caught on the tracks when distracted and don't wait for trachk to clear before trasing. the bells lights and arms appeared to be functioning after the collision. nochbt 39 paechkz and crew members on the train were injured. they were transferred on to buses to continue their journey. this accident was especially difficult for responding police officers and firefighters. it was the second fatal amtrak accident in two days. a passenger was struck and killed at davis street in san low and droe yesterday. >> what i get from a lot of them is a blank stare. i get that because of the fact they are fathers. i get that because of the fact people in that vehicle are the age of their family members. >> reporter: first responders will have access to koujsors to deal with the tragedy. in san leandro, david louie, abc 7 news. on the
