you all. we begin with that violent clash outside a donald trump rally in albuquerque. >> anti-trump protesters squared off with police and torched campaign signs as trump addressed thousands of supporters inside the convention center. all of this as the presidential candidate won the washington state primary. that means he's now just 30 delegates away from officially clinching the republican nomination. it is "your voice, your vote." we get the latest right now from abc's stephanie ramos live for us in washington. stephanie, good morning. >> reporter: kendis, good morning. diane, good morning to you as well. well, the trump -- donald trump is back to campaigning and not without controversy. at his first event back, a swarm of protesters was there to greet him. angry protests erupting outside of this donald trump rally in new mexico. >> get back. get back. >> reporter: rocks and bottles flying. fires lit. demonstrators trampling police cruisers. police using pepper spray and tear gas to break up crowds as trump supporters come together inside.

some protesters even finding their way in. trump interrupted just over half a dozen times. >> how old is this kid? get out of here. >> reporter: trump back on the campaign trail after a short hiatus with his attention dead set on hillary clinton. the gop presumptive nominee responding to clinton's new ad that takes him to task for cashing in on the housing market collapse. >> i mean, i'm a businessman. so when the housing market goes down, i guess what she'd like to do, you see, if she did it, she'd want to buy at the top. >> reporter: hillary clinton sticking with her strategy, not letting up on trump's business record, then hitting him on his taxes, even his ego and campaign style. >> it may have started out as entertainment, but now it's really, really concerning. >> reporter: but clinton stopped short of almost praising trump on "the ellen show." >> you've got to give him what he's accomplished, but i think that once the seriousness of the general election really hits

people, he has to start being held accountable. >> reporter: donald trump seems to be in better standing with house speaker paul ryan. after a meeting to unify the gop, the trump campaign says speaker ryan will now endorse trump. but no time line was given. kendis and diane, back to you. >> yeah, that was quite the twist overnight there. stephanie ramos for us in washington, thank you. now to breaking news from the phoenix area. an intense manhunt is over after a series of highway shootings. >> it was a terrifying scene as a gunman took aim at other motorists and law enforcement vehicle in the suburb of gilbert. the trooper in the car was not hurt but another driver was shot and carjacked. and another victim either walking or driving on the roadway was also shot. at least ten miles of the beeline highway were closed with multiple crime scene investigations. police arrested the suspect hours later. also breaking overnight, severe storms in the midwest. radar shows intense systems

particularly over kansas and oklahoma. >> now, this area of the plains has been rocked by 24 hours of violent weather. >> big-time tornado. >> reporter: large and destructive, ripping through the plains. overnight the first pictures of tornado damage in kansas, buildings torn apart and debris everywhere. the powerful winds picking up this large propane tank and tossing it right into the middle of the road where it started to leak. >> we got a propane tank in the middle of the road that's leaking. >> reporter: just yesterday alone, 26 reported tornados in 5 states from michigan to texas. 18 in kansas alone including these two caught on camera, rare twin twisters. sirens also blared in oklahoma and colorado. a fourth consecutive day of damaging storms in the heartland. and in arkansas, raging floodwaters swept away a 13-year-old boy, and he was found safe several hours later. the teen pulled from a drainage ditch after police heard him calling from below a grate.

help another man get there. that individual turned out to be an undercover agent for the fbi. over in egypt relatives of those on board egyptair flight 804 have been called in to aid in the investigation. family members are now giving dna samples to egyptian authorities to help identify remains found in the mediterranean sea. now, there was some confusion yesterday when one egyptian official said body parts that were recovered suggested the jet was brought down by an explosion. later that suggestion was dismissed. president obama is in japan today, the second stop on his visit to asia. before leaving vietnam this morning, the president held a town hall-style meeting with young leaders in ho chi minh city. the president getting a rock star welcome with one speaker saying you're so handsome. he also fielded questions including one about his past marijuana use and then this, an inspiring musician. >> why don't you give me a little rap. let's see. let's see what you got. come on. would you like a little beat? this collision with an suv and an amtrak train killed two people in the san francisco bay area. a mother and her 3-year-old daughter were inside the vehicle when it was hit by the train in san leandro. no passengers or crew members were injured but this is now the second deadly amtrak crash there in two days. the bodies of a missing washington state couple have been found buried not far from their seattle home. two brothers have been charged with murdering the husband and wife over a property dispute. the sheriff's department says one of the brothers who is now in custody provided information that led to that discovery. but the other brother is still on the loose. the administrator of the tsa heads to capitol hill this morning to testify about those long security lines at airports. peter neffenger can expect questions about the dismissal of his agency's security director kelly hoggan. he was in charge when screeners failed 95% of undercover tests last year while receiving $0,000

in bonuses. now, to help the long line problems, the agency is implementing new measures that will be tested this weekend with the memorial day travel. news of a strong housing market is also boosting the stock market. new home sales soared nearly 17% last month to the highest level in more than eight years. that cheered investors so much that u.s. stocks posted their biggest gain since march, especially tech companies and home builders, and this morning, there are rallies, as well, in asia and europe. now, while the housing market may be booming, it's no thanks to millennials. more and more of them are continuing to live with mom and dad. in fact, pew research reports that for the first time on record living with parents is the most common arrangement for people between 18 and 34. the researchers say millennials are concentrating more on school and careers and less on forming new families and apparently getting their own home. >> so much for the empty nest syndrome. >> yeah. when we come back, new fears

neighborhood of st. petersburg, florida. the blast sent flames and a manhole cover shooting into the air. residents nearby were shaken up, but no one was injured. now for a look at morning road conditions. flooding is likely in central texas with wet roads in practically all of the midwest and drivers will encounter rain and snow in the western mountains. if you're flying storms could cause airport delays in kansas city and minneapolis and low visibility, the problem, in chicago. in pennsylvania, a stunning turn of events for the iconic entertainer once known as america's favorite dad. >> a judge has ordered bill cosby to stand trial for sexual assault charges. the alleged victim andrea constand did not appear in court yesterday. prosecutors say the actor drugged and sexually assaulted constand at his home near philadelphia in 2004. cosby's defense team wanted the charges tossed. >> there was no evidence of a crime here and that the inconsistencies that plague this since the beginning continue to plague it now and

this case should end immediately. >> cosby's lawyers also point out that after the alleged incident the accuser rather stayed in contact and even gave gifts to cosby. the actor waived a formal arraignment which means he automatically entered a plea of not guilty. now, this case is the only criminal case among dozens of accusations against cosby. if convicted he faces up to 30 years in prison. the justice department is seeking the death penalty against the man accused of killing nine black parishioners in south carolina. dylann roof is awaiting charges and trial in connection with the attack at a church in charleston. this is an unusual move for the justice department. federal executions are extremely rare but attorney general loretta lynch says in this case it's warranted. with all the concerns about the zika virus, picking a mosquito repellant is especially important and a new study finds that natural repellants don't last. ♪ time for "the pulse" and of course we're going to start with the new champions of "dancing with the stars." well, the season finale right here on abc last night. >> the new champs are nyle dimarco and his pro partner, peta murgatroyd. dimarco was once the winner of "america's next top model" and he also, by the way, is deaf. we caught up with him backstage and with the help of an interpreter, he said winning means more opportunity for deaf people. >> you know, i have my own foundation to inspire deaf kids and make changes in their lives. it's about the community. there's 70 million deaf people in this world. it's about them. >> so awesome. it was so emotional, the entire evening. mma fighter paige vanzant was the runner-up.

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. we have breaking news. >> look at firefighters battling a huge flame, a fire that is a four alarm fire. matt, we saw parts of the structure coming down including parts of the roof. what a fire, four alarms. we have firefighters in a defensive position. still an hour and a half after the first call came in for the fire at the strip mall in santa clara near lawrence expressway. as you come out here you can see the last stand of the flames as firefighters are surrounding and drowning the building. this building closest to me is actually an indian restaurant.

it probably is 30 seconds ago that the facade fell down. 15 minutes ago the sign fell down and burned. you cannot tell what this is supposed to be. there are several businesses in the strip mall. they were able to protect it will be easier to give you the names of the businesses that were not lost rather than naming the businesses that were lost. there is a dance studio, a sushi business, a dentist and a pizza parlor that were saved. the firefighters now are continuing to battle the flames and the facade just came down on the indian restaurant. the roof collapsed in the middle section. firefighters were continuing for put water and they with is success but when you removed the

water, flames shot back up. it is very flammable. there is an add jason business behind the mall they have kept the flames from. there are no residences in the area, but firefighters are not conditioned about -- are not concerned about residences. we will follow the fire out here in santa clara and we will let you know what started the fire, we will try to talk to a chief here so can get information on what started the fire. obviously it is devastating. businesses will not be in business today or for a very, very long time. we have seen people coming to the scene obviously very devastated on what took place at their brings this morning and early morning fire. the hope is that no one was inside any of the businesses when this took place. firefighters have not gone
