>> announcer: abc 7 news starts right now with live breaking news. >> go home! slurs and flames at donald trump's south bay rally as angry protesters clash with supporters of the gop front-runner. tonight police are still at the scene. good evening. welcome back to abc 7 news at 11:00. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. take a look at sky 7 hd from just a little while ago. you can see san jose police attempting to surround a large number of protesters who stuck around after tonight's event at the san jose convention center after it let out. >> police announced by helicopter to disperse, calling it an unlawful assembly. san jose police tell us they arrested a few people and one officer was assaulted. >> abc 7 news reporter tom llamas was in the middle of the

protesters and has the story from san jose. >> reporter: for at least 45 minutes tonight there was complete chaos in downtown san jose as the trump rally was ending skirmishes between protesters and trump supporters took place right in the streets. we saw several fights. and at one point mobs of protesters just started beating up trump supporters as they were exiting the rally. we saw people getting punched in the face, people getting sucker punched. couples getting harassed as they were walking out. at one point protesters even stormed the garage and started hitting cars as they were trying to leave the convention center. now, the police were here on hand the entire time, but they never seemed to intervene as people were getting beaten up. it seems they were trying to hold the perimeter. this has by far been one of the worst clashes we've seen between trump protesters and supporters since this campaign has begun. tom llamas, n abc news, san jos. >> it was a mostly peaceful scene inside the rally. trump recited many of his standard campaign lines to a few thousand supporters.

[ crowd responding "mexico" ] >> download the abc 7 news app and enable push alerts to get election updates as they happen. the man accuse of shooting two police officers was a nortenno gang member with a violent past and wanted for meth possession and identity theft. the new information good verld villabrille comes from our media partners at the news group. cell phone video shows the moment he shot a police officer. because the video is graphic we've edited the moment the shooting happens. here's abc 7 news reporter vic lee with the story. >> reporter: police say the suspect shot the first officer after ramming his patrol car. the officer pulled him over for a traffic stop near the auto

zone store on fremont and washington boulevard. video obtained by abc 7 news shows the officer already out of the patrol car shouting repeatedly for the suspect identified as gerald villabrille to get his hands up. words are exchanged. the officer seems to give the suspect the benefit of the doubt. he waits. then shots are exchanged. three distinct rounds. and the officer collapses on the ground. the suspect darts away down fremont boulevard. he appears to be bleeding from the back. meantime a man and a woman get out of the suspect's truck and calmly walk away from the crime scene. it's now 50 seconds since villabrille ran from the first shooting. he rushes back to the crime scene and tries unsuccessfully to scale a fence in the back. in his desperation he pulls down a chunk of the fence and disappears into the neighborhood. a split second later responding officers appear. you can see them rushing to their fallen comrade before fanning out looking for the

suspect. one footnote. the person who shot this video told us he's talked to fremont police and he says he's also given the video of this cold-blooded shooting to investigators. in fremont, vic lee, abc 7 news. >> abc 7 news was at san jose regional medical center where the officer we saw in that video is in critical condition tonight. the other officer's condition is stable. police from other bay area agencies have been stopping by to show their support, of course. the suspect died after a house fire overnight. police say after shooting the two officers gerald villabrille broke into a stranger's home nearby, shooting the lock off. the people who live in the home were not there at the time. police fired two rounds of tear gas to get him to talk to them. the second round started a fire. >> we made rescue attempts, repeated rescue attempts to get into the house. but he had barricaded himself into a location that we were unable to safely get to.

>> police found villabrille's body that i closet. they also recovered the gun they believe he used to shoot the two fremont officers. the couple who lives there told us their dog died in the fire. stay with abc 7 news for continuing coverage of this fremont shooting. we're going to bring you updates as they come in. and you can get them on your phone the moment they happen with our free abc 7 news app. turning now to the warriors. the dubs conquer the cavs tonight in game 1 of the nba finals. it was an incredible match-up at roaracle. >> really was intense. we have live team coverage. nbc 7 news reporters cornell barnard and leslie brinkley are talking to excited fans. >> but let's begin with sports director larry beil who is live inside oracle. hey, larry. lights are barely still on there. >> yes. they haven't turned them out on us yet. the they went out on the cavs a couple hours ago. cleveland really wanted a rematch for the warriors in the nba finals. be careful what you wish for. the doubles did not get big

performances from the splash brothers in game 1 and yet they still won by 15 points. this game tonight was not nearly as intense as the previous okc series was. yet steve kerr as you see right here still pretty frustrated. a burst of anger right there when cleveland went ahead. speaking of burst, leandro barbosa still got, it scoring over matthew dell ved rah. the blur had 11. a 21-4 burst. harrison barnes with 13 and shaun livingston had 2037 the warriors bench outscored the cavs bench 35-15. splash brothers had only 20 combined. 104-89. >> we have a lot of talent. we have a lot of guys who can make plays. the biggest thing is if we defend like we did tonight and we take care of the ball. we're going to be tough to beat. we had nine turnovers and we held them to 38%. that's a great effort. doesn't matter who scores the points. >> the challenge for golden

appearance in the finals. >> abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley is also live at oracle and has this story. hi, leslie. >> reporter: what a remarkable story. a remarkable woman. talk about having your heart in the game. i met this warriors fan that dub nation is dubbing game heart lady. she just might bring the team some luck. 81-year-old phyllis calavoda got o'come in the vip entrance of oracle for game 1 of the finals and she felt lucky to be here. >> this year's been wonderful because last year i was too sick to make the games. >> reporter: heart failure was to blame. she and her husband jack had been season ticket holders for 25 years. those tickets are why she married him. she's made it to all of this year's playoff games and even scheduled getting this heart monitoring device implanted on tuesday so she could get the thumbs up from her doctors to come to this game. next up -- >> i'm going to have a pacemaker

tonight we know drugs killed prince. but we still don't know how he got them. the toxicology report shows he died from an accidental overdose of the prescription painkiller fentanyl. the night before his death prince's representative called in an expert on pain medication addiction. he didn't say who provided him with the opioids. a medication that can literally reverse a deadly drug overdose is becoming much easier to get. >> pharmacies are now able to furnish naloxone without a prescription and experts say the drug has already been frov to save lives. >> reporter: at the mission wellness pharmacy in san francisco shelves have been stocked with naloxone for years. what's different is the opioid blocker will now be available without a prescription, not only to users of drugs like heroin but also their friends and family. >> i walk the patients through what needs to be done in terms of overdose. >> reporter: head pharmacist maria lopez says the staff has

undergone a specialized counseling program. >> to train you and make sure you that would not have an allergic reaction. >> so in a kit we would give out two syringes and two vials. >> reporter: eliza wheeler runs the harm reduction coalition's drug overdose presentation program. she says naloxone blocks the receptors in the body that absorb opiates. >> in the course of the last 15 years or so i've administered naloxone six times to people who were overdosing. >> it can be given through standard injections nasal dispenser and even commercial versions with voice instruction. >> injection complete. >> reporter: while wheeler's group hands it tout at risk users in san francisco she says many areas around the state don't have similar programs. those gaps led to a move in the legislature to expand access to the drug through pharmacies. so with the new law in place a growing number of pharmacies including the cvs chain have begun signing on. >> reporter: dr. phillip kaufman directs substance use research

at the center for public health in san francisco. he says the number of recorded overdoses has dropped significantly since the city began supporting nal okayown distribution. >> as high as 180 in the late 1990s to around 10 in 2010 through 2012. >> reporter: back at mission wellness pharmacists believe the new model will get antidote into the hands of more people. >> we can increase the availability of naloxone in the community and save lives. >> now, the price can vary depending on the dispensing system. cvs pharmacy charges, for example, between $60 to $90 for a kit. mission wellness pharmacy is charging about $30. time to check on our weather and how long the heat's going to be hanging around. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is following it very closely for us. >> dan and ama, at least tomorrow we'll see those trim digits and then the heat will retreat a little bit over the weekend. i do want to show you right now a time lapse from earlier this

evening. this is from our sutro tower camera. the reason i bring this in is notice how shallow the fog layer is and notice how it's not advancing. it's primarily right there over san francisco. tonight it is limited in coverage, which is why the temperatures are going up some more tomorrow. it's really right near the coast from san francisco down toward the santa cruz coastline. here's a look at those temperatures. they're in the 50s and 60s. far inland you're still hanging on to the warmth with those 70s showing up. and a beautiful live picture from our east bay hills camera as we look across the bay here. coastal fog overnight. trill'll-digit heat tomorrow. it is going to be a little cooler over the weekend but not a big cooldown as we originally had hoped for. air quality will continue to run poor for the inland east bay and santa clara valley. a second spare the air alert has been issued for tomorrow. so just keep that in mind. fog will start off your morning just near the beaches. temperatures will be in the 50s to low 60s when you get going. and then here's a look at the full range of your summer

microclimates. they're coming early. half moon bay 65 degrees where the fog will be sitting tomorrow afternoon. downtown san francisco 72, a warm day in downtown oakland, 82 degrees, walnut creek you'll be cooking at 99 and a hot 102 degrees in antioch. here's how the rest of your friday looks for the rest of you. san jose 92 degrees in the south bay. 74 in santa cruz. it will be on the hot side in los gatos, morgan hill mid 90s. cupertino 91. on the peninsula 90 in palo at 87 redwood city 76 in millbrae 84 in san mateo fog lingers near the coast mid to upper 60s. so you also will see a little bit of a milder reading tomorrow. milder readings i should say. but not really warm. 66 daly city, 72 downtown san francisco. and in the north bay you'll see those 90s around napa, sonoma, santa rosa, 86 in san rafael. warm day in the east bay 84 san leandro 89 in fremont. inland spots 99 degrees in fairfield.

good evening, everybody. larry beil live at oracle arena. game 1 of the nba finals was really kind of strange. the warriors, they get 20 points combined, combined from steph curry and klay thompson. and they still beat cleveland by 15 points. we'll check out the highlights. warriors fans thinking another championship banner coming. harrison barnes got the start over andre iguodala. great first half. beautiful feed here. andrew bogut. what a wonderful passer. barnes and one. leandro barbosa, the brazilian blur, still got the burst. the warriors' bench outscored the cavs' bench 45-10. look at barosa go to work. warriors led by six at the half. four

third quarter the cavs took the lead briefly and steve kerr obliterating the whiteboard. his third whiteboard smash this season. steph and klay combined for 20. here's steph late with a kiss off the glass. lebron james could only shake his head. fourth quarter warriors on a 21-4 run as barbosa pushes that lead up to 14 and barnes had 13 points. nice more inside. shaun livingston was the star of the show, led all warriors scorers with 20. he matched the splash brothers by himself. and the warriors take game 1. 104-89. >> it's jufts staying confident in my shot, understanding my game, you know, where the shots are going to come from. you know, and trusting it. >> they're going to make life tough for steph and klay. it's our job as the rest of the unit to be aggressive, attack if you have openings, take them and try to make the most of it. >> winning three straight to just get here. and that taught us a great lesson of how important it is to
