good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top headlines we're following for you this morning on "world news now." we have breaking news from fort hood, texas, where flooding is being blamed for a fatal accident. at least five soldiers were killed when their truck overturned in a rain swollen creek. the situation continues for several others. we have full details straight ahead. >> the midwest medical examiner's offices says prince died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl. a powerful pain killer that's much more potent than morphine or even heroin. investigators are still trying to figure out whether the drug was supplied illegally. boxing legend muhammad ali is hospitalized in the phoenix area where he's battling some respiratory issues. sources say those issues are being complicated by ali's

parkinson's disease. his spokesman says the 74-year-old is in fair condition. the golden state warriors, they defeated cleveland in last night's game one of the nba finals. final score 104-89. game two sunday night right here on abc. those are some of our top stories on this friday, june 3rd. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning, everyone, on this friday. we're going to get started with the serious story, the breaking news coming out of the army's massive ft. hood in texas. flooding on the 340 square mile base is being blamed for a fatal accident. >> at least five troops were killed after their truck overturned in a rain swollen creek. right now, the search continues for four more soldiers still missing. three soldiers were rescued and hospitalized. more than half the lone star state remains under flood watches or warnings. you can see why by taking a look at the radar. rain and storms just seem to

spin right across texas. forecasters say some areas of the state could receive up to 10 inches of rain from now through tomorrow. officials say some evacuees may not be able to return home for a week. >> a crisis situation there. >> we want to get to the latest of wild clashes in the race for the white house. more violence erupting overnight outside a donald trump rally in california. mobs of anti-trump protestors descending on downtown san jose last night throwing rocks and bottles as trump supporters left the rally, some people were chased, punched and even beaten. look at that scene. others were taunted, egged and shoved to the ground. protesters also stormed a parking garage and banged on cars trying to drive out. police in riot gear had a tough time gaining control. at least one officer was assaulted and several people were arrested. now, inside the rally, donald trump hammered hillary clinton over a foreign policy speech that she made earlier in the day. he fired back because she called

tragedy for the famed blue angels. one of its pilots killed in a crash in tennessee. captain jeff kuss had just taken off when his f-18 crashed during practice for the great tennessee air show this weekend. kuss joined the elite squad in 2014. he had more than 1400 flight hours. the show this weekend will go on but the blue angels will not be taking part. the navy is investigating what caused that crash. at about the same time that that took place, there was a crash in colorado, as well. this one involving a member of the u.s. air force thunderbirds. that crash just moments after this flyover for the air force academy graduation. major alex turner ejected from the plane parachuting to safety. officials say he suffered no serious injuries and is in good condition. president obama was at the graduation and asked to meet with the pilot after that crash. german police have arrested three men they say were planning a terror attack on the city of dusseldorf. the three syrian nationals are accused of plotting to detonate suicide bombs near a busy

transportation hub and have snipers fire on people running from the scene. german authorities say isis commanders in syria approved the plan as early as may of 2014. the ucla community is in mourning after that stunning murder/suicide on campus. overnight more than 1,000 people students, gathered to honor professor william klug. he was shot by mainak sarkar who then turned the gun on himself. police say sarkar targeted others in a kill list. he had already carried one of those murders out in minnesota. the victim his estranged wife. authorities say that was just the start of a violent rampage. >> he had multiple magazines of ammunition and multiple loose rounds of ammunition. he was certainly prepared to engage multiple victims. >> police say sarkar had also targeted another professor but he was not on campus at the time.

that kill list was discovered because sarkar left a note asking someone to check on his cat. bp is paying up once again in connection to the 2010 oil spill in the gulf of mexico. the company agreed to pay $175 million to its shareholders who brought a class-action lawsuit accusing bp of misleading them about the severity of the spill. bp is paying nearly $19 billion in penalty to the government and five states. those new settlement claims will be paid over the course of the next year. and this be might be the best news of the morning. today, friday, june 3rd. national doughnut day. >> whoo-hoo. >> so, clearly a day for national celebration because there's nothing quite like some fried dough, lots of sugar. >> yeah. >> and maybe some chocolate and sprinkles. >> bring them on. >> look at that. >> now the good news is we're not the only one who gets to enjoy doughnuts today. >> is that right? >> that's correct. >> who else? >> all the doughnut chains have promotions going on to celebrate the big event. >> just to be clear, today is

♪ in health news this morning, women who suffer from migraines may have even more serious health problems to worry about. a new study suggests those women are more likely to suffer a stroke, a heart attack, or die from heart disease. researchers say they aren't sure how migraines hurt the heart but enough women were affected that they believe migraines should now be considered a risk factor for heart disease. the fda looking into patient complaints about a patch used to create migraines that causes burns. in some cases the battery powered patch has left permanent scars. the patches are supposed to be used only once and then removed after four hours.

in dallas, texas, it was an emotional arrival for a couple who spent nearly an entire year trying to get their baby back. >> such a crazy story. their newborn son was switched at birth at a hospital in el salvador. but their struggle to reunite is finally over. rebecca lopez of our dallas station has that story. [ applause ] >> reporter: it's been a journey for rich kushworth and his wife mercy. >> hey, man. oh. >> reporter: the young couple is now back on u.s. soil after a long battle to find and bring home their 1-year-old son moses. >> it's been a long and painful process. i just can't believe we have this beautiful little miracle boy here with us in dallas. >> reporter: their ordeal started a year ago when mercy who is from el salvador went back home to have her baby. she and her husband were married in the u.s. after meeting at cries for the nation's missionary school in dallas.

mercy was on a temporary visa so had to go back home. her husband stayed in the u.s. after giving birth in el salvador, the couple was given the wrong baby. >> when i got him, i said this is not the baby i saw last night. >> reporter: after a couple of months, mercy had a dna test and learned the baby they named jacob was not her child. >> and i fell on the floor. >> the couple had only one hour to say good-bye to jacob before he was taken away. >> i think that's the most difficult part because we raised him like ours. >> reporter: they found their biological son moses but had to battle with the government in el salvador who wouldn't give him a birth certificate or a passport to travel to the u.s. until last week. finally clearing the way home. >> very thankful and happy. >> reporter: their attorney says baby moses has a three-week visa but has faith the family can get permanent status to stay here. >> i think the story is if you stick through it, there is a good ending to it.

i cut them lengthwise like this. right? and look at that. >> it's beautiful. >> so i just put a little salt and pepper on that. >> okay. >> and then i'm just coating them in a tiny bit of regular oil. we're going to do two things on the grill first. i'm going to put a little more of the oil in here in a pan. >> all right. >> and just put some pine nuts in there to toast. that's our nice rich component. we'll put the zucchini on the grill. we're going to char the zucchini a little bit and get it ready. and then we'll cook the clams. i know you love to mince garlic. >> i don't know what it meant. >> going to cut them up really small. oil over the clams and melt a little bit of butter. pop that in here. this is like -- smell that. stir and smell. >> there's everything that is possibly good in life is in this bowl. you have nuts. you have butter. you have garlic. >> good stuff, right? >> amazing. it's been about five minutes.

this is "world news now." and we do say good morning to you, everybody. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm diane macedo. we begin with another violent blowup outside a donald trump rally in california. >> hundreds of protesters clashed with trump supporters in san jose last night. people with trump t-shirts and signs were taunted, attacked and spit on as they left the rally. some were chased down and beaten bloody while others were egged. demonstrators also stormed a parking garage and started bashing cars. police in riot gear struggled to control the crowd before making several arrests. inside the rally, trump railed against hillary clinton over her e-mail controversy saying she has to go to jail. he also slammed a foreign policy speech clinton made earlier as pathetic and sad and adding it was a political speech and had nothing to do with foreign policy. in that speech, clinton said electing trump would be a historic mistake and warned that a trump presidency would trigger nuclear conflicts and lead to

economic catastrophe. she also ran down a list of people he insulted including the pope and calling him thin skinned. to the floodwaters in texas taking a more deadly turn. the search continues in a flooded area of the army's massive ft. hood where a truck carrying troops overturned in a rain swollen creek yesterday. at this point, at least five soldiers were killed in this incident and four remain missing. three other soldiers were rescued and are hospitalized. >> elsewhere in the flood stricken state, water levels aren't receding because of new storms dumping more rain. can you believe it? officials say the hundreds of residents who have evacuated could be out of their homes for the next week. we look at the radar and it's a bad scene there. the drenching rain seeming to spin over texas. by the time it is all over, tomorrow, get this up to 10 inches could fall in the hardest hit areas. bottom line, the flooding situation isn't getting any better. >> german authorities foiled a major terror attack in the city

plotting to plant bombs and plant snipers to fire on people running from the scene. german authorities say isis commanders approved the plan as early as may of 2014. iraqi forces are making progress pushing their way into the isis held city of fallujah. they say they've secured the outskirts but limiting the number of air strikes because fallujah is so heavily populated. they hit fighting positions, a weapons cache and a tunnel system. >> back here in the u.s. tragedy in the air as the pilot of a blue angels jet is killed in tennessee. marine captain jeff kuss had just taken off when his f-18 crashed. he joined the elite aerobatics team in 2014. he had more than 1,400 flight hours. the show this weekend will still go on but the blue angels will not be performing.

in colorado springs, moments after a dazzling display at the graduation ceremony for the air force academy, one of those jets doing the flyover crashed. it was an f-16. the pilot there major alex turner ejected from the plane and landed safely on the ground. president obama who delivered the commencement address learned of the crash while in his motorcade. the president then met with turner, thanking him for his service and expresserelief he was okay. here's turner's mom in massachusetts. >> you have to trust that he knows what he's doing, that he has good training but it doesn't stop you when you're a mom. you just worry, you know? and i was just relieved that he was okay. and he's going to be fine. major turner has logged 1,200 flight hours as an air force pilot. he has more than 270 combat hours over libya as well as iraq since 2005. there are some alarming new details about the ucla gunman including what's being called his kill list as the campus mourns a beloved professor. hundreds of students attended an on campus vigil last night to

remember bill klug, the young father gunned down on wednesday. the gunman planned to kill another professor, as well and he had already carried out a murder in another state. abc's kayna whitworth reports from l.a. >> reporter: chilling details in a deadly murder plot that left a beloved ucla professor dead, and a second victim, nearly 2,000 miles away. police say 38-year-old mainak sarkar targeted and killed professor william klug, before taking his own life in a blast of gunfire, as thousands of students ran for cover. >> we are conducting a search for the active shooter. >> reporter: police revealing that sarkar's plans were even more sinister. a note found next to the bodies at ucla asked for someone to check on sarkar's cat, which led authorities to his home in st. paul, minnesota, where they discovered a kill list with three names. >> a list was located that had professor klug's name on it. another ucla professor's name on it.

and the name of the female victim. >> reporter: that other professor was aware sarkar had issues with him, but on that day, he was off campus and escaped unharmed. for the minnesota woman on the kill list, it was too late. that woman believed to be sarkar's estranged wife. >> they did locate an adult female, who was found deceased from apparent gunshot wound. >> reporter: officers believe sarkar may have killed her before driving in his 2003 nissan sentra to ucla loaded with ammo. >> he had two semiautomatic pistols. he had multiple magazines of ammunition. he was certainly prepared to engage multiple victims. >> reporter: police now investigating this blog post from march, where sarkar called professor klug "sick," and accused him of stealing his computer code. an accusation police say was unfounded. police still not releasing the name of the other professor on that kill list, but they did tell me that when they informed him that he was on that list, he wasn't necessarily surprised. of course, police adding, they

we saw several fights. mobs of protesters started beating up trump supporters as they were exiting the rally. we saw people getting punched in the face, couples getting harassed as they were walking out. at one point protesters stormed a garage and started hitting cars as they were trying to leave the convention center. the police were here on hand the entire time. but they never seemed to intervene as people were getting beaten up. it seems like they were trying to hold the perimeter. this is by far been one of the worst clashes between trump protesters and supporters since the campaign has begun. tom llamas, abc news, san jose. >> our thanks to tom in california. inside the rally, donald trump railed against hillary clinton over her e-mail controversy saying she has to go to jail. trump also slammed the foreign policy speech that clinton made earlier as pathetic and sad in his words. he said it was a political speech and had nothing to do with foreign policy. >> hillary clinton minced no words in that speech that trump was referring to there coming out guns blazing. she said electing trump would be a historic mistake, calling him

win the election. in response, trump tweeted they will be both working hard to make america great again. a fatal accident at the army's ft. hood in texas is being blamed on the flooding rains that are pounding that state. the search continues for four soldiers missing after their truck overturned in a rain swollen creek. the death toll from the incident is up to at least five troops. three soldiers were rescued and hospitalized. more than half of texas remains under flood watches and warnings. the worst part is more rain will continue through tomorrow. and there have been hundreds of water rescues across texas during the flooding emergency. you can see a man in a raft being pulled to safety by rescuers. he told police a wall of water swept his vehicle right off the road. he was found on top of his car. more rescues are likely with up to 10 inches of rain expected in some areas. >> there is another military tragedy to tell you about. it's under investigation this morning. the fatal blue angels crash near nashville. captain jeff kuss was taking off for an afternoon practice session when he crashed. the blue angels were scheduled

to perform this weekend in the great tennessee air show. the show will go on but the blue angels will not perform. the 32-year-old is a colorado native, and he had more than 1,400 flight hours. he joined the blue angels two years ago. at about the same time yesterday, there was a crash in colorado involving a member of the u.s. air force thunderbirds. that crash just moments after a flyover for the air force academy graduation. major alex turner ejected from the plane parachuting to safety. officials say he suffered no serious injuries and is in good condition. president obama was at the graduation and asked to meet with major alex turner after the crash, thanking him for his service. it's unclear what caused that crash which left a trail in the field outside colorado springs. it's official the midwest medical examiner says prince died of an accidental overdoes of fentanyl, a powerful opioid that's being blamed for a recent surge in drug related deaths. although prince was known for

his clean living, he had started to take pain medication to ease pain in his hips and knees. tolerance and look for stronger drugs without realizing how dangerous they can be. federal health officials described the drug as 80 to 100 times stronger than morphine. and 25 to 40 times more potent than heroin. in florida, the former police officer charged with the fatal shooting of a musician has posted bail. nouman raja made his first court appearance for manslaughter and attempted murder charges on thursday. he is expected to remain behind bars until later today after posting a $250,000 bond. corey jones was on the side of the road after his car broke down. prosecutors say raja never identified himself before shooting jones. and the man accused of shooting and wounding two northern california police officers during a traffic stop was found dead inside the home where he later barricaded himself. that home in the city of fremont had caught fire after police fired tear gas inside trying to force the man out.

one officer is in critical condition, the other listed as stable. >> a 7-year-old boy missing in a japanese forest for nearly a week has been found unharmed. his parents say they made him get out of the car as punishment for throwing rocks at people and then they drove away. when they came back a few minutes later, he had vanished. he turned up in an army training hut, a little dehydrated and scratched but okay. >> back here in the states in game one of the nba finals, it is in the books and advantage warriors. the defending champs golden state showing their strength in numbers against the cavaliers. >> the warriors took last night's game by a score of 104-89. abc's t.j. holmes was there. >> guys, coming into the finals it was all about the splash brothers, you know, klay thompson, steph curry. they've been putting on a show the entire playoffs. they did not make too much of a splash in this game, if you will.

going into the fourth quarter, midway through the fourth quarter, both guys curry and thompson, both were in single digits. but their team was up by double digits. the bench showed up in a major way for the warriors and essentially won this game for them and won easily. on the other side, the cleveland cavaliers i'm not sure how they're going to be feeling when they get up tomorrow. this was a bruising game, it was very physical. lebron put on his typical show and scored his big points but didn't get a lot of support from some of the other big names on his team. they've got regrouping to do. could never get this thing under control. but the celebration is dying down a little bit as i talk to you here now, but this place was rocking. i couldn't even talk to my producer who was sitting right next to me, it was so loud in here during this game. if this is any indication of what we'll see in the future, this is going to be a fantastic finals. back to you guys. >> i bet it's really hard to have a conversation when you're in front row seats, t.j. it must be really tough. >> tough assignment for him. >> it was a fun game. it was a fun night. unless you're a cleveland
