abc's neal karlinsky is on the scene for us in booth, texas. good morning, neal. >> reporter: robin, good morning. this neighborhood tells the tale of what so many are dealing with. with the help of our live drone camera which you can probably hear you can really get a sense of things. the water isn't that deep but just so widespread and the people dealing with this for day after day are really beginning to get tired of it all. >> oh, my god. no, no, no. >> reporter: overnight flooding rains turning deadly. >> get out. get out! >> reporter: in grandbury, texas, this suv getting swept away. >> get out! >> reporter: pinned against a tree miraculously everyone escaping. but near ft. hood, texas, a fatal accident leaving at least five soldiers dead. their truck overturned in a rain-swollen creek. three soldiers rescued and are now hospitalized. this morning an active search

and rescue continues for the remaining soldiers. the governor declaring a state of disaster in 31 counties. more than half the state remains under a flood watch. here in richmond, texas, it's the perfect example of what the brazos river has done. it's been smashing records. now, four feet higher than its previous high water mark set all the way back in 1994. over the past several days, there have been more than 550 high water rescues. let's take a last look at the drone camera and you can get a sense of the waters. they are beginning to recede but the flash flooding is the problem with the intense bursts of rain we've been getting which will continue about the next 24 hours. robin. >> all right, neal, thank you. we turn to ginger for more on the flooding in texas and severe storms heading to the northeast. >> exactly. i have two big headlines. stay with me on this. the upper level low talking about for days in texas still spinning, tapping into that gulf moisture and we'll keep bringing

more storms with flash flood potential through about saturday. so it's not until sunday it moves out then it moves east. look at the watches that have now extended into louisiana, parts of mississippi, the warnings that will be obvious as we go through the weekend and come right along the gulf in places that will get anywhere from 4 to 5 inches and can happen quickly. the second headline, just south of minneapolis, severe storms but it is on sunday afternoon and evening where we watch for potential for hail, damaging wind, even an isolated tornado from raleigh up to philadelphia. a big weekend of weather and we'll cover it all along the way. george and robin. >> a lot coming. thanks very much. now to that breaking news overnight those violent clashes at donald trump's rally in california. you see the protesters attacked trump supporters just after trump spoke and abc's tom llamas was there. he's on the scene now in san jose, good morning, tom. >> reporter: george, this was one of the most violent scenes i have ever witnessed at a trump rally. at one point it seemed like the

police had lost complete control. people were getting beat up right in front of them. these were not clashes. they were pure attacks. trump supporters, men, women, even the elderly left this building and walked right into danger. overnight, all-out brawls outside the trump rally in san jose, california. trump supporters harassed, beaten and bloodied by mobs of protesters. >> they were like spitting on me and stuff. >> reporter: this man says he was sucker punched. his clothes torn off his back. >> seven more people just come and started punching me, tore my lip pretty bad. >> reporter: this lone female trump supporter tried to stand her ground. her sign, torn from her hand, her glasses ripped off and shoved in her face. >> a woman wearing a trump jersey cornered and then egged in the face. fights breaking out in the streets all over the convention. inside, trump spoke to a large and welcoming crowd. >> we're going to build that wall.

don't even think about it. >> reporter: but outside protesters accuse trump of being a racist and hunted down the people that support him. >> another fistfight is about to break out right now. that supporter is getting pummeled right now. >> reporter: that man fighting his way back to police. >> reporter: another point protesters followed this couple, violently harassing them then storming the parking lot where they tried to escape. protesters shaking cars and smashing taillights. drivers forced to hit the gas to get out. police were there armed in riot gear but from what we witnessed reluctant to initially stop or engage the protesters. then this, a young man running in fear from protesters, then getting tackled before breaking free. we pointed to police. >> there's a cop over there. >> reporter: this trump supporter walking with his wife spat on, bottles thrown at them. then punches. he says it was the only way he could get out.

>> what am i going to do? ten people throwing punches at me. >> reporter: now there were some peaceful demonstrators last night but many of the people we saw were young men and young who came here to do one thing throw punches and inside those mobs we did see young people throwing up gang signs. robin. >> all right, thank you. >> now to the democrats. a new poll showing hillary clinton neck and neck with bernie sanders ahead of tuesday's california primary. but her focus is on donald trump. now saying he's unfit for the white house. abc's cecilia vega has the latest joins us from los angeles this morning. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you. this was 33 minutes of donald trump bashing. hillary clinton said her republican rival could send the country into nuclear war because of his thin skin and that was just the beginning. hillary clinton's newest attack on donald trump, attack, attack and attack again. >> we cannot put the security of our children and grandchildren in donald trump's hands.

>> reporter: surrounded by flags and teleprompters for a speech on national security clinton using some choice words to describe her gop rival. >> incoherent, bizarre, thin-skinned and quick to anger. lashes out. >> reporter: she called trump dangerous. >> do we want his finger anywhere near the button? >> all: no! >> reporter: she basically called him unhinged. >> he is temperamentally unfit to hold an office that requires knowledge, stability and immense responsibility. [ applause ] >> reporter: clinton may be taunting trump but she is still locked in a primary fight and hoping to avoid a california upset making four stops in the golden state yesterday alone. bernie sanders still drawing the crowds. and protests too. secret service agents rushing to his side as animal rights activists rushed the stage.

but sanders got right back down to business. >> we will win and a very large turnout. we'll win big. >> reporter: sanders had sharp criticism for hillary clinton over that foreign policy speech saying we cannot forget she voted for the war in iraq, what he calls one of the worst foreign policy decisions in modern american history. george, she is, though, receiving a lot of praise this morning especially from supporters who wanted to see her take a tougher stand against donald trump and they certainly got that with this big speech. >> they did. cecilia, thanks very much. let's talk about it with matthew dowd and jon karl. matthew, let me begin with you and that speech from hillary clinton. she emptied the dump truck on donald trump yesterday. you boil it all down. she says he is too dangerous to be president. is this the argument for the next five months? >> well, i think this we'll see if she stays disciplined with this over the course of the next five months through the conventions and debates and into the fall it could be effective. george, let me boil this down for you. they are fighting over voters who both dislike or who dislike both of them.

one says he's crazy. the other says she's a crook and that's what we'll debate over the course of this. if voters want inspiration and aspiration they'll probably get more from an episode of "scandal." >> they won't get it this year. i think that's right. jon karl, a lot of news yesterday in the presidential race. not just that speech and the protests but donald trump and the issue of trump university making a new attack on the judge in that case in california. saying he has an absolute conflict of interest because of his mexican heritage. pretty extraordinary statement. >> it sure is. trump has gone after this judge before. he has mocked his name. he has mentioned he is hispanic but in this interview with "the wall street journal" he goes further quoting the judge's mexican heritage and says i'm building a wall. it's an inherent conflict of interest. an extraordinary statement. the judge has and always been an american. he was born in indiana. his parents were

mexican immigrants. and trump said because of that fact he is unable to judge this case. really extraordinary. >> so by that standard, no one of mexican heritage could judge donald trump fairly? >> that is precisely what he is saying in this interview. >> jon, matthew dowd, also we saw paul ryan, the speaker of the house saying he would endorse donald trump and slipped it under the radar while hillary clinton was speaking. >> it didn't make a big show of it but said i'll do this and went away in the course of this. i think this will be problematic for many republican leaders and feel they have to endorse him because trump has united the party but they'll own every outlandish thing that donald trump says through the course of this campaign. it could be problematic as i say for them in the long haul even though their party wants donald trump as the nominee. >> but, jon karl, what paul ryan is saying is that donald trump will support his, paul ryan's agenda. >> exactly and by the way, he did this in an op-ed in "the janesville gazette."

his hometown paper. he couldn't have done it in a more low-key way but has a better chance of getting his agenda enacted into law with donald trump president. the democrats responded by saying it's donald trump's party now. >> jon karl, matt dowd, thanks very much. you can all tune in to "this week" on sunday. an exclusive interview with hillary clinton. robin. >> all right, george, now to those two military air crashes, one deadly in tennessee and in colorado the pilot is lucky to be alive this morning. he ejected moments before his thunderbird crashed just after flying over the air force academy graduation where president obama was speaking. abc's clayton sandell has the latest. >> reporter: in colorado -- >> class of 2016, dismissed. report of an airplane crash. >> reporter: major alex turner an experienced combat pilot manages to avoid homes, ejecting just before the jet hits the ground carving a long gash in the dirt. >> we are very happy the fact that major turner was able to walk away from this. >> reporter: he is flown to a base in colorado springs just in time to shake hands with the commander in chief. it was the second crash of the day for the military's prestigious and popular fighter demonstration teams. >> oh, no, no. >> reporter: this morning military investigators are asking why an elite navy blue angels f-18 fighter went down in an enormous fireball. >> we've had some kind of explosion near the rec park. >> reporter: it was during a training flight for a weekend show at an air show killing jeff kuss, a colorado native with a love of flying. >> i wanted to fly the fastest, meanest thing i could and that's why i'm here today. >> reporter: and now the thunderbirds and blue angels canceled performances they had

for this weekend as investigators try to figure out why each of those planes crashed. george. >> clayton, thanks very much. we turn to new revelations about prince's death. an autopsy confirmed he died of an overdose of a popular painkiller and eva pilgrim has the story. >> reporter: this morning the weeks of speculation are over. the midwest medical examiner's office determining prince died from an accidental prescription drug overdose, self-administered fentanyl. >> at paisley park, 7801 audubon road. person down not breathing. >> reporter: noting that the music giant, a petite 5'3", 112 pounds was found april 21st in his paisley park elevator fully dressed and turned their attention as to how he got the powerful painkiller. fentanyl is 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine, 25 to 40 times more potent than heroin. even small amounts equivalent to a few grains of salt can be

lethal. >> they die in bed. they go to sleep and stop breathing. this means he was so intoxicated in the elevator he fell down, fell asleep and then stopped breathing. he must have been taking a very large amount of medication. ♪ this is what it sounds like when doves cry ♪ >> reporter: the music star's friends told abc he struggled with pain for years. >> he was on top of risers and jumping down off risers in those heels, you know. it damaged, you know, parts of his body. >> reporter: the night before his death prince's reps called a pain medication addiction expert in california for help. the doctor put his son on a red-eye for what he called a life-saving mission. their lawyer saying it is abundantly clear the two had nothing to do with prince's death. the statistics on opioid use in this country is stagger, while they have 5% of the population we use about 80% of the world's opioids.

>> reporter: police say mainak sarkar, a ph.d. graduate of the engineering school began his killing spree in minnesota and authorities discovered the body of ashley hasti believed to be his estranged wife thursday and police finding a three-person kill list in sarkar's st. paul apartment. >> a list was located that had professor klug's name on it, another ucla professor's name on it and the name of the female victim. >> reporter: according to police, sarkar may have killed hasti before driving his car packed with guns and ammo to california with two ucla professors' names to cross off his list. >> he had multiple magazines of ammunition. he was certainly prepared to engage multiple victims. >> reporter: one of those professors who remains unnamed surviving sarkar's plot. thankfully not on campus wednesday morning but telling investigators he was aware sarkar had issues with him.

beloved professor william klug could not escape. the father of two gunned down in the engineering building. >> just a hard-working, sincere, well-intentioned guy. >> reporter: overnight professor's klug widow thanking the community for support saying in a statement, i will miss him every day for the rest of my life. police saying sarkar then turned the gun on himself leaving behind a note. this morning police combing through evidence including this blog post from march where sarkar calls professor klug sick and accuses him of stealing his computer code, an accusation police say was unfounded. i also had the opportunity to speak with one of professor's klug's colleagues who said the statements were untrue. adding that professor klug was well spoken well liked and gentle. you can see the outpouring love

and support from the campus of their professor who will certainly be missed at ucla. >> kayna, thanks. sad and sick story? and his wife saying seeing the tributes to him is bringing them some sort of comfort at this difficult time. an abc exclusive. the yellowstone national park tourist who put that baby bison in their trunk that led him to being euthanized. those two are revealing why after facing fines of outrage on social media, linsey davis sat down with them both. >> this morning the father and son at the center of that baby bison controversy are telling their side of the story answering the question why did they put a newborn bison in the back of their suv and also share how they would handle the situation now if they got a chance to do it all over again. this morning, for the first time, the yellowstone national park tourist who sparked a global firestorm are now setting the record straight. >> do you think that people were unfairly critical and way too harsh? >> i think so. >> i think people didn't know the whole story.

>> reporter: shamash kassam and his son shaquille were the subject of scathing headlines after putting this baby bison in the back of their suv, an act park rangers say caused the baby to be rejected by its herd and ultimately euthanized. >> i was so shocked. >> it was the way it was presented. it was like we didn't know what we were doing. we picked up the bison because it was shivering. that was not the reason why we picked up the bison because it was abandoned by the herd. we thought we were doing a nice thing by taking it to the rangers. >> reporter: this video taken by a different visitor shows the same little calf earlier struggling to make it across the river and keep up with the others. you can see it here appearing in distress and trembling. >> it was totally huddled next to the engine of the other car and we decided we would leave it alone and go. >> reporter: but about a half mile down the road his dad had a change of heart. >> i told him let's go see what is happening because that thing is going to be eaten alive.

>> reporter: shamash and his son regularly take trips centered around wildlife. polar bear, tigers, elephants and bears. >> i am a farmer from africa and many times it has happened that the poachers kill the mother and we pick up the phone and give it to the rangers and they look after it. >> reporter: with no cell service to call a park ranger and with the herd long gone, they loaded the newborn into the suv and took it to the park ranger. >> did you have any reservations about that? did you think maybe this isn't a good idea? >> the hair was standing a little bit on that one. i wasn't 100% sure but when i saw the calf outside shaking i felt that, you know, this was the right thing to do. >> reporter: they say they never imagined how fiercely critics would pounce. online this petition justice for baby bison requesting harsh punishments to tourists who

loaded a buy -- bison calf into their vehicle and were ultimately responsible for its death. i'm asking you to speculate here, but do you think there was any way that that baby bison would have survived along the side of the road? >> no way, 100%. >> no way. it would have been either killed by a car or something or worse. eaten alive. >> baby, get your strength. >> reporter: you wanted to help. >> that's the point. >> if you had to do it all over again, how would you react now? >> in yellowstone park we would just leave it because they say let the nature take the course. >> reporter: yesterday shamash went to court ordered to pay a $230 citation and make a $500 donation no yellowstone and the park has gotten backlash for euthanizing the baby bison but park officials say they don't have the facilities to care for a bison that can't care for themselves. as for their story, regardless if you

assistant says he never sent those texts. kate coyne, executive editor of "people" magazine is weighing in. what do you make of these texts? do they exist? your thought? >> the texts absolutely exist. what remains to be seen is whether or not they were doctored in some way. if they're actually authentic. but certainly those close to amber heard say that they are real. we haven't actually heard directly from this assistant yet. he hasn't been quoted speaking. and i think everyone is really interested in what he has to say. >> can't you follow texting? can't you find out who is texting to? i mean i feel like we've heard a lot about texting and using it as evidence. >> certainly the texts that we have seen and that have been put out there quite clearly come from amber -- what appear to be amber heard's phone going to someone named steven's phone.

you know, and what has been alleged so far is that perhaps the actual texts were doctored in some way. these are all screen grabs of texts. no one is actually holding the phone that contains them. >> we've seen so much so fast in this fight between amber heard and johnny depp. kind of went nuclear. where does it go next? >> i think there's a lot more to come. as long as the courts remain in the story which they very much are there are depositions to come. there are hearings to come. there's going to be a lot more because this isn't just a nasty breakup. this is a motion for protection. there's a domestic assault charge being made here. it's not going to go away any time soon. >> we will stay tuned. amazon are taking on reviews right now and the fake reviews, becky worley. how big a problem is this for amazon?

>> huge problem, george. those five gold stars are practically worth their weight in gold. study last year from market research for mintel say they trust reviews on line by more than 70%. from toeflt -- total strangers more than a personal recommendation. my sources said they had to go on the offensive telling me if consumers can't trust reviews it's a huge threat to their business. >> last year they sued the people for writing the fake reviews. now why the change to go after the companies for allegedly paying for these fake reviews? >> right, it's kind of like a game whack-a-mole to go after those who write the fake reviews getting $5, $10 a pop but to go after the bigger fish, the companies that allegedly bought the reviews making fraudulent claims. their goal shut down the sellers and send a message.
