the goal was not to abridge free speech but the lines formed to separate the two didn't protect everyone and some did get injured. san jose mayor similar liccardo told me by phone he supports what police did. now a task force will be created. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. today the san jose police officers association condemned the violent outbursts at last night's rally. the group said it shows how important it is for the department to hire more officers. >> we deployed our entire force yesterday, and we did the absolute best we could, maintding with police practices. i think it was incredibly hard for everyone to watch people get assaulted last night and the police not be able to immediately apprehend those. >> reporter: the police officers association also called for any witnesses to share their videos with police. hillary clinton is hoping to lock up the democratic presidential nomination after tuesday's california primary.

clinton made several campaign stops in southern california today. this is video of her meeting with supporters in santa ana. clinton will be in sacramento tomorrow. the former secretary of state slammed donald trump today for his attacks on a judge overseeing a lawsuit against trump university. the judge is of mexican descent. >> if our president doesn't believe in the rule of law, doesn't believe in our constitution with the separation of powers and independent judiciary, that is one of the most dangerous signals that we are dealing with somebody who is a demagogue, who would rip up our most valued beliefs. >> after the speech, clinton wanted to take a group picture with everyone on stage. she tried to remove the podium for a better shot when all of a sudden it just collapsed. everyone was okay. there it goes right there. down it goes. they moved on to take the picture. everyone was fine. >> little excitement there. meanwhile, democratic presidential hopeful bernie sanders stumped in fairfield at

a rally at solano community college. sanders commented on the violence at yesterday's donald trump's rally in san jose. he told abc sechz news violence in any form is unacceptable. sanders is back in the bay area monday for a political rally and concert at san francisco's chrissy field. meantime, the democrat turned down an offer from a snoem sma county company to skydive into today's rally. nor cal skydiving had been talking to sanders' campaign about it. it came up after a staffer did a jump with nor cal yesterday. well, terrific work by firefighters in alameda county kept a brush fire from sfreding to nearby houses. fire broke out about 12:30 near black hawk country club in danville. crews had to deal with dry, hilly terrain and 100 degree temperatures. about 25 acres burned before the fire was contained. no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. well, we saw an aerial assault today on a small brush fire in the sierra foot hills.

it broke out about 12:40 this afternoon about five miles south of placerville in eldorado county. officials say the fire burned about 45 acres. no word of any damage to any structuresor or homes. the cause is under investigation. well, fire fighting is extra tough today given the record high temperatures the bay area is sfais facing. it's a hot day and we're even feeling it here in san francisco. let's get the latest from meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya, let's hope the winds aren't too fast. the winds aren't that fast it's a gentle breeze out here kristen and it's warm here in san francisco still. let's check out the highs so far, downtown oakland 85 degrees a new record for today. the previous record was 80 set back in 1981. look at how steamy it was inland, 101 fairfield, 95 san jose, 96 san rafael, 79 in san francisco, 97 in santa rosa but only in the mid60s in half moon bay. next 12 hours if you're stepping out, liver more you'll notice it's still hot at 6 clks, hour by hour forecast showing you the

the hot weather? you'll have to ask spencer or sandhya. >> it looks like we're going to have a little bit of a cooldown this weekend so we're definitely looking forward that. >> reporter: in antioch, abc 7 news. several officers were injured today taking a burglary suspect into custody during a five-hour standoff in san francisco's chinatown. the standoff ended shortly after officers fired a flash bang grenade na an apartment at pacific and powell this afternoon. abc 7 news was there as officers chased that suspect out of the building and into a nail salon next door. employees were rushed out as officers subdued the suspect. six officers suffered minor injuries in the scuffle. the suspect was reportedly not rurt, still first responders took him to the hospital as a precauti precaution. >> suspect went inside. he violently fought with officers. he was covered in glass. and resisting by biting and spitting. >> no one else was injured during the standoff and eventual arrest. abc 7 news was the first to

for assembly. >> announcer: walnut creek. burlingame. campbell. and all the bay area. this is abc 7 news. a union pacific train towing cars full of oil derailed in oregon's columbia river gorge today. it sparked a fire you can see that september a plume of black smoke high into the sky. the accident happened just after noon near the town of mohsier about 70 miles east of portland. and we're told it was in one of the eight train car that's derailed where the fire was. authorities closed a local highway and ordered people living within a half mile raid yaugs to e-jack wait. tonight one of the fremont officers shot wednesday is improving but the other officer is still in critical condition at san jose regional medical center. and crews meantime are starting

to clean up the scene where the suspect died. that's where abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington is live with new information. >> reporter: well, dan, that's the house where the suspect was found dead. it's now been fenced off and boarded up. he chose to hide there randomly and the couple who had been renting the place lost everything. now their friends are asking for help. this is what's left of the house on roberts avenue in fremont where wednesday a suspected gunman holed himself up for hours after shooting two police officers. today restoration crews boarded up. neighbors struggle to return to their normal routine. >> it was like a war zone around here with the bombs going off. it looked like bombs going off and the gunfire. so just really tired. i was up the whole time. >> reporter: police knocked down melissa hirschberger's fence during the search for shooter. she's worried the noise scared off the mother of these baby squirrels when she found

abandoned in their nest. the suspect shot off the lock of her neighbor's door to enter the house. luckily they weren't home. >> he could have very easily, you know, broken our door down and came into our house and we were there. we have an 18-month-old baby in the house. so we're just very thankful that he didn't choose our house. >> friends of the couple who were renting the nous-burned down home are raising money to give them a fresh start. the hardest part, they lost their dog huckleberry in the standoff. his doghouse still in the backyard. the suspect has a lengthy criminal history. at the time of the shooting he was wonted for meth possession and identity theft. abc sechbz news in free font. in san francisco six tourists are hurt after being attacked by crooks on the famous crooked street. it happened last night on lombard near leavenworth. the two robbers assaulted a man woman and took her cash and a .

camera. the victims were taken to the hospital. on wednesday, four people were robbed in two different incidents. police believe the same people are responsible for all of the attacks. police are trying to find a man accused of robbing two banks in the east bay this morning. this sir vails photo take a look is just from after 10:00 at the west america bank in livermore. here is a closer look now at the man. notice the white fabric around his neck. well, police in pleasanton think the same man covered his face with the fabric and robbed a bank about 45 minutes later. he gave the teller a note claiming he had a gun. police chased him in a silver or gray audi on to interstate 580 but they kauld off the chase when it became unl safe to continue. we're moving on. one lucky school in east oakland received a valuable gift from the nba and the warriors today. east oakland pride elementary was the recipient of the nba cares live learn and play zone. abc 7 news reporter lianyanne melendez is live outside the

livermore, 96 in santa rosa and here is a look at the fog which keeps you nice and cool at the coast right at the golden gate bridge. coastal fog expands overnight, a little coolerer this weekend. we're looking at near average range of temperatures for next week. our air quality is suffering, hazy conditions out there from our east bay hills camera. so another spare the air issued for tomorrow. poor air quality in our inland east bay for saturday. first thing tomorrow morning you're going to see some fog around to the usual spots, temperatures will begin in the low 50s to the mid 60s inland where you hang on to some of the heat. what's going to happen later on in the day is the fog that's around near the coast and the bay will still stick around near the afternoon hours and along the coastline. but we'll see those high clouds drifting in as well so we'll call it partly clowe cloudy and not as hot inland. so here are your temperatures. they're going down tomorrow. you might not notice it everywhere. 88 in the south bay and san jose, 92 gilroy, 86 sunnyvale,
