>> announcer: live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> he will be remembered for all his works in kmart and his philanthropy. >> reflecting on the loss of a legend. muhammad ali. tonight, remembrances from coast to coast on the legacy the heavyweight boxing champion left on the sport and on society. good evening, i'm eric thomas. it's been a day of mourning for the boxing champion and civil rights activisactivist. today his family revealed that ali died of septic shock after a five day stay at an arizona hospital pt his wife and children were able to be at his bedside to say good-bye to the 74-year-old. they are bringing his body back to his childhood hometown of louisville, kentucky over the next couple of days. his funeral will be there on friday. he was a complex man who began

abc 7 news was in the mission district shortly after the crash this afternoon. witnesses say the girl was walking with her mother when she was hit. the motorcycle rider has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries. new at 11, officials had to cut this car apart. witnesses say one car broadsided another just before 6:00 this evening. one person died. paramedics rushed at least one other victim to a trauma center. highway patrol officers and alameda sheriff's deputies believe drunk driving might be a factor in tonight's tragedy. still to come on abc 7 news at 11 it's crunch time for candidates ahead of the california primary. where hillary clinton will be tomorrow. and the big name set to serenade fans before game two of the nba finals at oracle

nbc 7 sports brought to you by river rock casino. >> before we get to today's sports. i was born in louisville kentucky, and my grandmother's house was near the gym where a young men then known as cassius clay worked out. i was 12 years old when he won his medal in the olympics in 17. he would jog past our house every day and as he would pass we would run behind him like the pied piper yelling out cassius clay. this was a segregated city, so we were not allowed to play with our neighbors who were mostly black. here were white and black kids running together behind clay. even though he was only 17 years old he was onbringing together l as one.
