good morning, america. hillary clinton makes history. clinching the democratic nomination for president, winning the support of delegates who will make her the first female nominee of a major party. >> we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment. >> bernie sanders fighting back saying it's not over yet as six more states get ready to vote today. state of emergency. tropical storm colin making landfall overnight. florida towns now under water as nearly a foot of rain leads to flash floods. the storm bearing down on the carolinas. massive outrage over the college swimmer sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting a young woman behind

withdrew from the race and endorsed barack obama. we all remember that and today, a much different story. >> not quite over yet. still a lot of states yet to vote today. clinton still in a bruising battle with bernie sanders. he says he'll keep fighting her all the way to the convention. as i said six states go to the polls today. let's take a look at hillary clinton and bernie sanders supporters. there they are in new jersey. they're getting ready to vote today and abc's cecilia vega is in los angeles, california, voting, as well with the latest. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: good morning. hillary clinton wasn't planning on making this history overnight. this came after a fresh count of superdelegates. in fact, her big party is planned for tonight in new york, in fact, adding to all this drama bernie sanders is refusing to accept these results. overnight, hillary clinton securing enough delegates to clinch the democratic nomination. making history as the first woman in the country to become the presumptive nominee of a major political party. >> we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment but we are still have work to do, don't we?

>> reporter: clinton winning enough commitments from superdelegates to push her to the number needed for the nomination and it came early. six states vote today. clinton reminding voters that she still needs their support. >> we're going to fight hard for every single vote, especially right here in california! [ cheers and applause ] >> reporter: bernie sanders, his family right there by his side in san francisco, defiant, saying he can convince superdelegates those democratic party leaders who have committed to supporting clinton so switch their allegiance and vote for him. >> we're going to go into that convention with enormous momentum. [ cheers and applause ] >> thank you. >> reporter: but that is a nearly impossible task. sanders would need to flip more than half of clinton's superdelegates to his side. >> thank you so much. are you having a good time? mexican or not. i do great with the mexicans and provide jobs. president obama telling aides he is eager to get out on the campaign trail campaigning against trump. we know his endorsement of hillary clinton could come very soon. robin, we also know that bernie sanders is soon to be headed back to vermont after voting today to assess his campaign. >> all right, cecilia, thank you. jon karl will join us with more. jon, hillary clinton says she's on the brick of history but, as we've been saying and heard from cecilia, bernie sanders, he's not calling it quits and many are wondering why he's staying in. whether he really has a chance here, jon. >> reporter: if you look at the numbers, hillary clinton does have it wrapped up. you need 2,383 delegates to win the democratic nomination. that is precisely the number she has. but, but, but there's a lot of voting going on today. you have six states voting -- new jersey in the east, south dakota, north dakota, the biggest delegate prize of all, california -- all told, over 900 delegates at stake today. and if you look at her

clinching, it includes those so-called superdelegates and as the sanders campaign will tell you they don't actually vote until the convention itself. but if you take out the superdelegates, this is without any superdelegates, hillary clinton still has a big lead over bernie sanders, in fact, if you take out the superdelegates to overtake hillary clinton with a lead, sanders would need to win all six states today by an average of 40 points. >> and on the republican side there, jon, of course, no real challenge there with donald trump. but he is poised to make history, as well. >> reporter: absolutely. in fact, if you look at the total votes he already has take a look at this, robin, donald trump before a single vote is cast has more votes in a republican primary than any other candidate in history. more than both bush, more than mccain, more than romney and ronald reagan and more states today, he hopes to add at least a couple more million to that total. really quite an achievement. >> that's right and six states today, d.c. coming up. so with the exception of d.c.

that will be the last. >> yeah. >> what's going to happen between now and the conventions next month? >> reporter: we'll certainly see a lot of back and forth between hillary clinton and donald trump. but they both have two major projects they have to do. planning tear conventions, donald trump is planning what he says will be the greatest show on earth. hillary clinton needs to find a role for bernie sanders and then, of course, robin, enter now starting right now the veepstakes. who do each of them choose as their running mate? >> everyone eager so hear that. george. >> thanks, robin. we are joined now by the democrats' leader in the house nancy pelosi. madam leader, thank you for joining us this morning. you see the numbers and hillary clinton has clinched the nomination. neither you or president obama have endorsed yet. are you prepared now to embrace hillary clinton as your party's nominee? >> i'm a voter in california and i have voted for hillary clinton for president of the united states and proud to endorse her for that position. but i hasten to say that it's not over till it's over.

californians haven't voted. nor have others in five states so, while the nomination may be there in the numbers in terms of superdelegates, i didn't endorse yet because i am a superdelegate and i think that the matter should be determined by the voters in the state. >> as you know, bernie sanders has said no matter what happens tonight he's going to try to flip the superdelegates between now and the convention in order to get the nomination. his argument is that he can do better in the fall against donald trump. what do you make of that? >> well, let's see what happens. i think he's also said let's see what happens tonight and we'll go from there. bernie knows better than anyone what's on the line in the election and that we at some point have to unify as we go forward. he wants to influence the platform. i think that's fine. >> but if he keeps on going does it hurt the party? >> well, i think that he'll go forward in a way that will be constructive to the party because as you know i've been involved a long time as have you

and i've never seen such a polarized situation where the republican party is so divided itself, they can't even pass their own budget, much less anything where we can find a compromise between the parties which is our responsibility. >> you were the first female speaker of the house. >> yes. >> what does it mean to have the first female nominee for a pay jar party? >> let me say of hillary clinton, it's wonderful that she's a woman. it's fabulous that we would have a woman president and i believe that she will walk into that oval office one of the best prepared people to do so in our country's history, however, it's because she is the best, not because she's a woman, however, having said that, pretty exciting and i can say, having been elected -- chosen as speaker in congress the response from the public is so wonderful that you've broken another -- i say marble ceiling in the congress. you've been there. you know it's a very male-dominated place. >> it was a big moment when you became speaker, no question

about that. now, everyone is looking ahead to the next steps some people saying two is even better than one. elizabeth warren joining hillary clinton on the ticket. >> we've had two men over and over again for hundreds of years. i think that two women, whoever they may be, that would be fabulous, as well but hillary clinton will choose the person that she feels most comfortable with. >> madam leader, thanks for your time this morning. >> my pleasure. thank you. >> robin. we move on from politics to the latest on tropical storm colin, bearing down on the carolinas this morning after pounding florida with torrential rain, flash flooding overnight. abc's gio benitez is in charleston, south carolina, with latest. good morning, gio. >> reporter: good morning to you. just take a look around me. local flooding all across the southeast from florida all the way up to the carolinas. and you said it, florida, the sunshine state hit hardest overnight. overnight, tropical storm colin making landfall. winds battering the coastline and drivers who braved the storm.

in florida, the governor declaring a state of emergency in 34 counties. that's half the state. >> we have notified our national guard and we have the potential to activate 6,000 national guard members around the state. >> reporter: the sunshine skyway bridge shut down, visibility so poor officials did not want drivers at risk. storm surge along with more than 10 inches of rain falling causing many communities to flood. this morning much of cedar key underwater. >> the wind is what is causing the trouble. it's pushing the waves up and over. >> i want to untie it from the boat. >> reporter: conditions so rough in the gulf of mexico boats getting washed up on shore. this man using a kayak to get around his st. pete neighborhood. in jacksonville, this home surveillance video capturing the moments a possible tornado struck. >> thank god nobody was hurt. >> reporter: many families spent the day racing to fill sandbags. 50-mile-per-hour winds bringing

down trees, damaging these homes near tampa. and back out here live in charleston, south carolina, as they deal with some of this flooding we can tell you tropical storm colin will be moving up the coast. it'll be entirely out of the area by this afternoon, robin. >> all right, gio, thank you. we turn to ginger for more on that causing all kinds of problems. >> even once colin is gone, there's still moisture feeding up and that's exactly where we're starting. brand-new video out of tampa, florida. that is what your commute looks like in many places. so many folks writing saying, we have 4 to 7 inches and, remember, this is the flash flooding that was coming with that feeder band so the moisture that is pulling up not even associated directly with the center of colin, which is off the coast of south carolina, that thing moving northeast bringing a lot of rain this morning to the outer banks. but, look, at 10:00 a.m., as gio

was implying, everything is off and still get a lot of moisture behind it in central florida, 3 to 5 inches and could see ponding on roadway, doesn't mean it's over even though it goes out to sea. a lot more coming up. >> thank you, ginger. we move on now to the latest on muhammad ali. doctors revealing new details about his battle with parkinson's as we learn more about is his memorial friday and remember him with pictures like with his daughter laila in 1978. linsey davis has details. >> reporter: we knew him as the man who thrilled and chilled and handcuffed lightning and threw thunder in jail. but this morning, his twin daughters say that was just part of the show and they described their father as a sensitive man with a huge heart. moving portraits this morning of the boxing legend, fists raised displaying his signature pose in march, mere months before his death. ever the fighter, we see shadow of the man who once floated and stung. his greatest strength, his true capacity to persevere, taking on a 32-year fight against a debilitating disease with a hint

of a smile. while ali once estimated he had taken 29,000 punches to the head, current scientific evidence suggests his head injuries were not a major factor in his parkinson's disease. >> muhammad appeared to have very typical parkinson's disease. the only real difference is his young age of onset which atypical. >> reporter: not only did his doctors not hear him blame boxing, his children didn't either. >> he felt personally he did not get parkinson's from boxing. >> reporter: they said ali never felt sorry for himself. >> he never said why me? that could be encouraging for some other parkinson's patients. he just really had this huge heart. >> reporter: that side of the legendary boxer will be on display when the people's champion is laid to rest in his hometown of louisville, kentucky, with a traditional muslim funeral on thursday and

an interfaith service on friday. >> i ain't got to be what nobody else want me to be. >> reporter: among the pallbearers, actor will smith who famously portrayed him in the movie "ali." and friday's service is open to the public with seating for more than 15,000 guests, among them, bill clinton, bryant gumbel and billy crystal among them. ali worked ten years to make sure the service was exactly how he wanted it to be and inclusive of everyone. >> as it should be. >> means it's going to be some show. amy has the breaking stories. details coming in about a bombing in central istanbul that happened today. the target was a bus carrying police officers. a car packed with explosives blew up as that bus passed by killing at least 11 people and injuring dozens of others. several recent attacks in istanbul have been blamed on isis and kurdish rebels. there was no immediate claim of responsibility for today's bombing. back here at home, the

education secretary said there's a systemic failure in the nation's schools. there is a new report that shows african-american students are nearly four times more likely to be suspended from school than their white classmates. and that trend begins in preschool. the report also found one in ten school students is chronically absent missing at least three weeks a year. investigators are looking into this deadly crash at the baja 500 race in mexico. look at that. a truck missed a turn and killed a boy from california who was standing there in the crowd. two drivers were killed in other accidents during that same race. and breaking overnight, professional fighter and internet sensation kimbo slice has died. his real name was kevin ferguson was taken to a florida hospital and later died, just 42 years old. no word on the cause. a spokesman calls him one of the best mixed martial artists ever his personality transcended the sport.

authorities in nevada released a new mugshot of o.j. simpson part of a routine updating of prison records serving a 33-year sentence for armed robbery and he's up for parole next year. uber is making some changes to appease drivers. one of those changes is going to cost you if you're late, the ride-sharing service will charge you a late fee it you keep your driver waiting two minutes. rating will vary from city. ruh-roh. this looks like it could end badly. a black panther creeping up on a man at a wildlife sanctuary stalking him coming closer, ready to pounce and then, you think he's attacking but it turns out they're pals. the man in the video runs the sanctuary and he actually helped rescue the panther, did not see that kissing scene coming. >> ah. >> did not think that was going to be the ending. >> i thought there was glass i thought. okay, there is an enclosure. why would someone video and not

it's 7:23. good morning. i'm reggie aqui. outrage continues to grow over the sentencing of brock turner. he's that ex-stanford swimmer convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman on campus. more than a quarter million people have now signed a petition to recall a judge aaron persky, three times more than yesterday morning. his sentence was six months in jail. let's go over to sue hall for a look at your morning commute. a lot of slow traffic still out there this tuesday morning. a couple of problem spots. this motorcycle has been out there for quite some time. a solid line of traffic into the bay bridge.

of him. these finals right now. but we'll begin with that growing outrageous over the star college swimmer sentenced to six months in jail after his conviction for sexual assault. critics slamming the sentence as too lenient and comments from the swimmer's father are adding fuel to the fire and matt gutman has all the latest. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning. the crime was bad enough, that swimmer was found beside his unconscious victim by a dumpster. now he tried to flee, but two good samaritans tracked him down and in sentencing his father lamenting that his son's life is ruined because of 20 minutes of action and now anger is turning towards the judge also. this morning, public outcry is mounting at the judge who sentenced former star swimmer brock turner to only six months in jail for a drunken sexual assault outside a stanford university campus party. a removed judge aaron persky petition already garnering

250,000 signatures. the district attorney telling me they had expected a much harsher sentence. how many years had you been asking for? >> i wrote a very lengthy brief and i asked for six years in prison. >> reporter: but the judge ruling that a prison sentence would have a severe impact on brock. outrage mounting also at this letter turner's father submitting it to the court at sentencing begging for leniency for his son writing, the guilty verdict and its many consequences would be a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action. but it's another statement read at sentencing that is having a wider impact now, the victim's directed at the man who assaulted her. among her words, i read something that i will never forgive. i read that according to him, i liked it. those 12 pages read on tv. >> majority of the statement i would like to address the defendant directly. you don't know me but you know me. he said i thought i liked it

because i rubbed his back. a back rub. >> it is one of the most eloquent and articulate letters i have ever read. i don't think anything like it has ever been written. >> reporter: reading the statement in court turner's victim said that hours after the assault, "i wanted to take off my body like a jacket and leave it at the hospital with everything else." millions clicking on her letter online. during the sentencing turner said that he could barely live with himself having inflicted pain on another person. but the d.a. tells me he has not once apologized for the assault itself. with good behavior he could be out of jail within three months, george. >> okay, matt, thanks very much. let's talk about this now with nancy grace, the hots of "nancy grace" on hln. nancy, thanks for joining us. the judge said he was just following the recommendation of the county probation department known in the past for being respected, fair, was a sex crimes prosecutor but, boy, he's now facing this recall effort. how do you explain all this? >> you know what, there is no

logical explanation for what he did. this judge, aaron persky, i believe should be removed because not only did he ignore the state and their request for six years behind bars and i want to correct something i heard earlier. when the passersby, two guys went by on bicycles, they looked over at the perpetrator, and he is a perpetrator, a jury found him guilty on three felony sex attacks on this girl, he wasn't beside her at that moment. he was on top of her. and she was naked from about the bra down. on the ground on the dirt, the pine straw by a dumpster. he wasn't just standing there. he was on her. they pulled back. he jumps up and runs. he knew he had done something horribly wrong. now, not only did the judge ignore the state recommendation and i don't say the judge has to

always agree with the state, but this is the law in that jurisdiction. the california assembly said these felonies are punishable up to ten years each, 10 to 14 years. he ignored the assembly which is us, the people. he ignored a jury that sat there and heard the evidence and returned these verdicts. and in my mind the most important, the crime victim, he ignored her. i've dealt with so many rape victims and i can't tell you what it takes to go through what they go through. and to have it just dismissed. this guy is going to probably do three months in county jail. really? it's absurd. >> her statement has been a manifesto for so many. really never heard anything like that before. >> you know, that letter that she wrote was so powerful, especially when she said to all the crime victims out there when you are lonely, when you are sad, when you feel like nobody

believes you, i am with you on those and i said i can speak from my own experience. crime victims suffer, not just during the crime but on and on and on, especially rape victims. and for the father, the father, i know he loves his son but to call a sex assault down on the ground by a dumpster, to call it action, his son got some action. i mean that really shed light on it and another scary aspect, this may never have come to light if the father had not written that letter. the letter goes on to say now my son won't eat his favorite pretzels and rib eye steak. really? >> we're going to have to end it there. thanks very much. >> also very disturbing. now to more of our exclusive interview with bobby brown whose new book "every little step: my story" reveals new details about his rise to fame and often-rocky relationship with his ex-wife whitney houston. i want to show you a picture, wedding day. >> yeah.

>> when you see this picture, what do you see? >> happiness. i think we're both happy. i was deeply in love with her and, you know, for the rest of my life i think i will have that feeling towards her because she was that one person that knew me, that one person that had no judgment. >> you broke tradition a little bit and saw her before the wedding. >> uh-huh. well, that was the first time i had actually saw her do drugs. >> cocaine. >> yes, ma'am. >> bobby says, in his upcoming book, he says that he found his bride-to-be hunched over a bureau snorting a line of coke. he says she offered him a hit but he didn't indulge at that moment. what went through your mind when you saw that? >> she wasn't that. you know what i'm saying. the drugs wasn't her. she did drugs but it -- drugs didn't do her. she knew how to handle herself.

i would say it comes down to two things. is the evidence relevant, i think in this case it would be and then really the crux of it is going to be how reliable this kind of evidence would be. >> alex, police say the wife is a suspect. she has denied killing her husband. and as we talk about the parrot possibly testimony being brought into evidence, you as a defense attorney, how would you counter that? >> is there a tv in the house? that kind of phraseology is often seen on television. is it potentially mimicking television? i'd like to know the science behind how parrots mimic. how reliable it is and is it potentially being taken out of context or from some other place. the timing of it and things such as that. >> there's a reason why they call it parroting. i mean it's like a recording. very interesting, alex. >> thank you, alex. we're going to move now on to nba superstar steph curry's big announcement revealing he is

skipping the upcoming olympic games in rio citing several factors, including recent injuries are contributing to his decision. espn's brad daugherty is going to join us now live. always good to see you, my man, brad. let's talk about steph. >> good morning. >> good morning to you now. he is saying and we know he's had injuries especially this season and he's saying that and other factors. what do you make of the other factors, brad? >> well, i think it's pretty obvious. the zika virus scare has a lot of athletes considering their participation in the olympics and whether or not they're going to go forward. you can't blame someone if they decide to step aside because of the uncertainty of the virus, so, i think that is the other that we're hearing a lot of the athletes mention when they're contemplating participating. >> now, any backlash at all for steph curry on this? i know there is a lot of disappointment out there for sure. >> there is a lot of disappointment because he's the best player in the country and the best player possibly the world and want to see him play but i'm sure there will be some backlash but at the end of the

day his health, his family and his career are the most important things and, you know, steph has gone through a myriad of injuries with his right ankle. he's had surgery back in 2010 and torn ligaments and sprained his right mcl in his right knee during the first round of the nba playoffs. the nba playoffs if you go to the finals and again this year, it's ten months long so he only has two months to recover before the season is under way again he needs that rest. but, with the zika concerns, i think that's very legitimate and i know people want to try to stay away from that and sidestep it if you're an athlete and worked your entire life to get to this point but, when you have more than 150 doctor, scientists, ethicists writing letters to dr. margaret chan, director of the world health organization, that's something to take very seriously. >> our dr. richard besser has been talking about that, as well. and no doubt that steph's injuries are a legitimate concern and a legitimate factor

and chris paul, there are other all-stars saying they're not going to rio, brad. >> yeah, i think everyone looks at what happened to paul george, the power forward who plays for indiana, who had the horrific knee injury during the games a couple of years ago and it derailed his career. he's bounced back and become a legitimate superstar again, but you have to take this into consideration when you're talking about your career, your health and your family. >> and the family. all right, thanks, brad. >> all right, thanks, brad. next up, a maryland man named tim connor waging a war against the traffic app waze after he says it rerouted cars through his tiny residential street at all hours of the day. we have mr. wonderful, kevin o'leary, here from "shark tank" joining us now. kevin, tim said he tried to fight back saying there was a traffic jam or a roadblock for an accident on his street but obviously they caught on pretty quickly that it wasn't true. those wazers know what they're doing. what's the best way for a little guy to take on a big company

like waze to try and keep his street quiet again? >> doing exactly what he did. waze is basically a giant social network that uses motion in your cell phones to determine where traffic is. and of course, roads, all of us in america pay taxes to have them and open to the public. what this fellow has done is try to game the system and put bad data into the map and make people think there was an accident on his street. it doesn't work because clearly the system has algorithms and catches that fraud which is basically what it is. it is a form of fraud but if you want to fight the big guy and if you really want to take on a giant app like waze which, by the way is owned by google, it's inside all google maps this is ubiquitous globally almost, social media is how you do battle today against big companies. you and i are talking about this now because it went viral. in the end, though, i think this benefits waze more than anybody else.

now to amy with the morning rundown. the big story this morning, hillary clinton beginning the final day of the primary season as the presumptive democratic nominee. as voters in six states from california to new jersey head to the polls, clinton has made history, clinching enough delegates for the nomination and abc's cecilia vega has more for us. cecilia, good morning. amy, good morning. hillary clinton securing enough delegates overnight to clinch her party's nomination and this is history in the making. she becomes the first woman in the country to become the presumptive presidential nominee of a major political party. the news came after a count of superdelegates. those party leaders who are pledging their support to clinton. among them, former house speaker nancy pelosi. telling george she's now endorsing clinton. >> i'm a voter in california and i have voted for hillary clinton for president of the united states and proud to endorse her for that position. but i hasten to say that it's not over till it's over, californians haven't voted nor have others in five states.

we are tracking this breaking news right now. sky 7 hd just arrived overhead, maybe in the last seven minutes or so. this is above treasure island. this is where police just arrested someone that they say stole that ambulance. as we zoom in you can still see the smoke coming out of that torched cab right now. it's not clear what started this fire, but this is what we do now. it started around 8:00 a.m. police say the suspect took the ambulance during a medical emergency in san francisco and then led them on a chase to t s treasure island. of course we're going to keep tracking this for you. we're sending out tweets. let's get a check with sue hall. is this impacting traffic at all? you bet it is. the treasure island off ramp off of the bay bridge has been shut down due to police activity.
