5:00 pm
in. have you been to a watch party before? >> this is my first time. i can't imagine 12,000 people in here. >> i think it will be similar to some of the adonal foyle birthday parties in lafayette. >> come on, you told me you wouldn't tell. >> hopefully a little bit more under control than those lafayette scenes. we're going to tell you about the countdown clock, lower right hand corner of the screen. we're counting it down to abc's pregame coverage. boy, if my eyes were better, i could see. we're under 30 minutes right now before abc takes over to get into their coverage of game three. we're talking warriors. we're talking cavs. got to talk about our team, of the abc 7 news team. that is covering game three. and that is abc sechbz sports anchor mike shumann along with news reporter amy holly fooel, both live in cleveland and with me of course the warriors ambassador adonal foyle. let's get to the story lines heading into game three and the question for cleveland is, all right, home court has made such a big difference for them. they're 7-0 in the 2016 play
5:01 pm
xbrofs at home. what about the splash brothers? they've been kind of quiet so for in the nba finals. do steph and klay dominate? dao they take over in game three tonight? and kevin love he's out tonight because he's still in the concussion protocol. is it possible the cavs might be better thrill without him, former warrior will be be in the starting lineup tonight. the warriors know they'll see a d desperately cavs team. we've been talking about cleveland has to win this game to have my hope to catch the series. a virtual must-1 for the cavs. >> we know we're playing against a great team. they're coming home. they can change the momentum around just with one win. so we've got to be ready. >> i'm the leader of this team and we have other guys that are ready to step up. obviously it's a do or die game for us. can't afford to go down 3 hoif. >> we need to have that same mentality because for what's at stake, if we are able to go up 3-0, that is a great position to
5:02 pm
be in. >> obviously it's easy. we feel good about our sfs. we protected home court. won by a big margin. but we haven't played an away game yet. we haven't played in this building. we know how much better teams are when they get home. >> reporter: yeah, home can make a big big difference. golden state strangely 0-3 in game threes this postseason. the other streak that's working in it this game is the cavs 7-0 at home in the playoffs. which streak will continue tonight? >> i will have to say that the cavs' streak is going to continue. i think in part because when you look at this team, if this team, if the cleveland cavaliers have any pride in themselves, if they have any chance of competing in this series, they have to win this game. otherwise, the warriors will win this game in four or five. it will just be be a matter of formality at that time. >> wow. picking cleveland. can't wait to see what everybody says on twitter after that. my goodness. we'll give out his address in just a few minutes. >> oh, wow.
5:03 pm
wow! >> reporter: i know, i know. a little early in the day for shots fired. but the cavs, they're leaving draid monday green wide open because naturally they're obsessed with stopping the splash brothers steph and klay. they're distributing the ball it's sort of like a p pick your poison. the cavs are drinking the hem lock and dying. >> you have to feel a little bad because if you tell anybody you're going to come into the bar yarz and really limit klay and steph and you're good to lose by the most points in nba history finals history, you think people are nuts. i think that you know that's what is so amazing about cleveland. they're shell-shocked because they did everything they had to do and yesterday they are down 0-2. so it must be be frustrate forge them. but this is the thing. we have a great team in the sense that these guys know if one thing is not going, you go to the secondary thing or try to create opportunitiesor for the rest of the players. >> yeah. the cavs have lebron. i'm not sure their secondary or tertiary guys haven't shown up.
5:04 pm
they need to find somebody to deliver tonight. let's get to cleveland. we've got mike shumann standsing by with one of the gentlemen who will call the game. jeff van gundy. >> reporter: coach, game three has been tough for the warriors, 0-3 in the playoffs. they're a good road team but i think the story here tonight is cleveland. they have got to win this game. >> well, if they want to win the series they have to win tonight but i think golden state will play well. i think curry and thompson will lead the charge. i think green will be dominant defensively. and then i think a lot of it comes down to the others. can they make their shots or not? but for cleveland james has to be special. irving has to be special. and their defense must be be much better. >> reporter: without kevin love, what does that do to cleveland? >> in some ways defensively it can make them more versatile. but this was a tough matchup for him to score. like when they're trying to post him against draymond green tlashgs's a tough match jum. i'll be interested to see who
5:05 pm
they start in his place. >> reporter: you think the long athletic teams have given the warriors trouble. so channing pride and mauz dauf might be guys to give them just that. >> yet they're not even close to as athletic as oklahoma city. so the plan that may have been really good for oklahoma city and it was, it can't be replicated easily because they don't have the same athletes, the same lateral quickness, the same length. so it's going to be interesting to see who he starts. i think they'll play much much better, but listen, i think golden state can play much better as well. >> reporter: which is sort of scary, right? >> well, for cleveland it is. i'm not so sure for the golden state war yar fan it's is. >> reporter: lebron is caught between putting the team on his back and keeping everybody involved. is this a team where he just has to take over? >> looshk, first he needs to cu down on his turnovers. second thing i think it's look to score in advantageous situations.
5:06 pm
i think sometimes he's getting right to the rim thinking pass versus think score and let the defense dictate whether you pass the ball or not. i think he's going to have to be be great. that doesn't mean great shooting but it means efficient. it means opportunistic and making tough plays down the stretch. >> reporter: coach, we appreciate your time. enjoy the broadcast. >> absolutely, thank you so much. >> reporter: back to you guys. >> all right, shu, jeff and his brother grew up in martinez. keeping the broadcast in the bay area here. we're going to be tweeting all night about what's happening in cleveland on and off the court. tweet any of us. >> reporter: let's bring some
5:07 pm
sense into the program. we'll go back to san francisco with dan ashley and kristen sze. get us back on track, dan. >> we'll try, larry. adonal, thanks very much. good job, guys. a lot to get to here tonight. >> yes. abc 7 news reporter alyssa harrington is live outside oracle arena in oakland. >> but first let's go to amy hollyfield efield in cleveland. amy? >> reporter: it is a fun atmosphere in cleveland, i have to say. for the fans there's a live band out here at this fanfest. and look over here, fans are so devoted to their cavs they're even getting temporary tattoos. now, if you're starting to think maybe you'd like to come out for friday's game, we've got advice for you from fans who traveled from the bay area. they point out, you still have lots to time to make it. they're staying in cleveland about their beloved cavs but is it the blues? the team is down two games to nothing against the golden state warriors. >> it's kind of like the blues and inspiration, yeah, taixt. a mixture, yeah. a remix, yeah.
5:08 pm
>> reporter: you're not sure what mood everyone is in right now? >> you know, it's not over until the fat lady sing and she hasn't sung yet. >> reporter: there are war yars fans here in cleveland, some who decided at the last minute to catch a flight out of the bay area. >> no. i've always been a warriors fan so we had a bunch of friends that, you know, decided we wanted to go last minute so we're here. >> reporter: if you're thinking of coming to cleveland for friday's game, these guys say you should do it. >> i think it's a lot cheaper than oracle. it's a lot choop he tharn the warriors home games. i would say don't book tickets earlier. booking probably the day before would get you really good seats. >> reporter: be ready to face a lot of love for the cavs. this fan from san jose is even rooting for cleveland. >> probably safer for me to be here than in oakland rooting for lebron. >> reporter: he paid $1200 for his ticket. he says he's going to be right
5:09 pm
behind the warriors bench. and keep in mind tomorrow the sharks play just a couple of hours from here in pittsburgh so you can get two for one. we're hearing that's what the warriors executives are planning to do with their day off tomorrow. reporting live from cleveland, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> 1200 wouldn't get you behind the bench at oracle. >> not even close. amy, thanks. the army of warriors fans is growing by the minute. >> that's right. chris nguyen is live with fans in san jose. but more to get to. >> let's get to alyssa live outside oracle at the biggest watch party on record. alyssa? >> reporter: well, the gold carpet is out and fans are starting to trickle in. as we know, tickets for a home game are very expensive. you might spend runs or thousands of dollars for a seat. these watch parties are just 20 bucks and families tell me this gives them a chance to be part of the playoffs action without the price. >> it's game three of the nba finals and fans are feeling good. >> i know they're going to just taefr it up tonight so make
5:10 pm
lebron look shameful. >> the playoffs have been really crazy. iguodala playing good defense. curry doing his thing with thompson. i think we're going to win it in five. >> reporter: the hottest fashion statement of the moment warriors gear. terrence kelly says people have tried taking his finals hat off his head. >> this one everybody wants. my sister is trying to get it off my head because we're going to the watch party tonight. >> reporter: the warriors' success means ticket prices are skyrocketing. tonight fans can get into oracle for only 20 bucks. the team is hosting an away game watch party. >> when i heard it was just $20, i was like, so what the players aren't going to be there, but the hype is still going to be there, the excitement is still going to be there. >> reporter: this is what it looked like at the last viewing party, clear leaders, confetti and dubs nation out strong. stillble to turn oracle into roaracle. and you can see fans going through the metal detect rz. by the amount of people we're seeing come through, it almost
5:11 pm
feels like a home game. if you saw what it was like at the last watch party, it really is can feel like it, too. that's why so many people want to watch these games surrounded by other warriors fans. there are still tickets available for tonight's watch party, but game four is sold out. reporting live at oracle arena, abc 7 news. >> you thank you. >> stay here with just about 19 minutes left in our countdown to game three, we have a lot more to bring you here. >> that's right. this is a live look inside quicken loans arena in cleveland where the cavs have a reason to feel concerned. >> can cleveland get back on track, or will the warriors derail them again? we'll get analysis from espn insider mark spears. >> who wouldn't be excited to get a shirt signed by all the warriors? up next, meet the team's oldest fan who's ready for a repeat. >> stay with us as you look live in cleveland, the abc 7 news warriors pregame show is just getting started for you.
5:12 pm
5:13 pm
5:14 pm
who knows? who knows? i mean, i -- first two game threes we didn't have steph. that was kind of a big deal. last game three we got crushed by oklahoma city. so i don't have an answer. i just know that whatever happened a month ago or six weeks ago has nothing to do with what's 0 going to happen tonight. >> reporter: warriors coach steve kerr looking for an elusive win in a game three as we bring you back and look live in cleveland at the quicken loans arena where the cavs fan are desperate for a win, their team is desperate for a win. they need the win in game three, adonal. >> they do. >> reporter: the philosophy of coming in and outshoot the best team in nba history at knocking down threes, you can question that coming into the series. but now you're two games in, what do you do if you're tied? do you just say, we've got to go bic or go home?
5:15 pm
let's try to muscle the warriors like we did in last year's finals? >> it has to be go big or go home. one area that you think every team has something they can do well, rebounding, shot blocking, being big, intimidation. cleveland has nothing. they've been outmuscled, outmanned, outrebounded. you have to throw something dramatic at golden state. so i think they're going to try to go big tonight. i don't know if it's going to help. >> i don't know if they can do it in the whole game but maybe in spurts. one thing they'll have to do is knock down threes. the cavs are shooting 27% from three point range in this series so far. now, that's 16 points below their average in the playoffs. how much will just being at home help them feel comfortable? >> well, i think being at home is more than just sleeping in your own bed. i think for these guys it's going to be more about having those conversations about, you know, what do we need to do to kind of get back into this
5:16 pm
series? you see j.r. not taking open shots, lebron is refusing to take three point shots. they need to find the confidence. they need to find themselves. they seem out of sorts and sometimes going back home with your fans they can kind of calm you down a little bit. >> this is one of those games where i watched j.r. smith his nickname is swish, j.r. swish. we haven't seen a lot of swishes from j.r. so far. but he's the kind of guy back home he might be able to turn it to swish tonight, which could be a problem for the warriors. let's head back to cleveland and get more from shu. >> reporter: thanks, larry. we're joined now by marc spears, espn writer for the undefeated and game three has been kryptonite for the warriors, 0-3 in the postseason. i always said it's the toughest game to win, change of venue and home team fans. >> well, i think it typically is the toughest game to win and the series really doesn't start until a team wins on the road. but there's a lot of pressure off this warriors team i think because they beat them so bad.
5:17 pm
>> reporter: right. >> they beat them so bad twice. they dominated them twice. love won't be here so it's almost like they're playing with the house money. and the scary thing for cleveland is the warriors are actually to me a better team on the road. >> reporter: i think everybody was surprised at how poorly cleveland played in games one and two after watching them in the eastern conference playoffs. what do they have to do, especially with kevin love out here tonight, to take game three? >> i don't know if -- i usually have some fake answer or something to give. i don't know. >> reporter: lebron has to take over? >> he can't do it by himself. i mean, lebron is capable of having 50s, but they still could lose. if there is one thing i think they should do which maybe could bring some success is to play half court. try to just slow it down. >> be physical and slow it down. those are the kind of things that seem to get under the war yrz' skin a little built. but just because lebron scores 30 and kyrie scores 30, the warriors score 110 and who else on this team without a kevin
5:18 pm
love? i mean, we haven't seen j.r. smith show up yet. who's going to fill up that other void? i don't know that they have that person. >> well, they don't have the bench. their bench hasn't respond like they have during the season. >> but typically a bench will play better at home. >> reporter: right. >> you know, the other guys will play better at home. so i do think you'll see your better j.r. smith better shumpert, mauz gauf than say in oakland. but they're going to have to be a lot better. >> reporter: they're going to have to play a complete game to have a chance. if they don't get game three -- >> they may get the parade warmed up in oakland this weekend. i hear the plans are in motion. but it's still two wins away. the war yafz still have to win a game on the road. >> marc, we appreciate your time. back to you guys. >> i've got to tell you when marc spears admits that he's out of fake answers, you know you're in big trouble. when he's out of material.
5:19 pm
we love mrashg. he's fan tas tack ishgs oakland's own and san jose state's own. one more note on the watch party because there's still seats available tonight. it's 20 bucks. friday is completely sold out and they tell me there's people that actually scalped tickets to watch parties so they're going to get -- some people are going to pay $100 to come watch the big screen tv. >> why didn't you tell me about this before? >> reporter: like you need more revenue generating ideas, right? oh, there's no tickets because adonal foyle bought them all. >> i could have gotten a block. >> reporter: that's right. this place is going to be a sea of blue and gold, dan and kristen. just like a lot of places around the bay area. >> adonal isn't content to just get a few seats. he wants a whole section. >> reporter: no. he wants it all. >> maybe people are expecting to see fireworks, too. >> it's going to be fun. thanks, guys. you know, these days there's a lot of blue and gold. one place in particular is at sp 2 communal bar and restaurant in
5:20 pm
san jose. >> that's where chris nguyen is live tonight. >> reporter: thai hey there. don't let anyone tell you that the south bay isn't ready for some warriors ak tonight. we're live at sp 2 in downtown san jose. if you look behind me, you can see some of the crowd that's gathered right now for the game. and in about 30 minutes, this place is going to be packed as people get off of work and make their way down to san pedro square. there are so many options here for warriors fans tonight. we've got sp 2, there's blush on the market bar next door just to name a few. we spoke to a number of fans who explained why downtown san jose is it the place to be. >> it's just so great. it's amazing energy. the camaraderie and exciting. >> everyone is really pump here. it seems like you're at the arena at oracle here. i go to oracle all the time. know he what it that is like. >> we're all just really friendly with each other because we're big fans of the team. we support the team. we support each other. i think it's great. >> reporter: as you can see,
5:21 pm
there are still spaces for fans here at sp 2. now, over next door at san pedro square market and bar they've already set up extra seats and tables to accommodate the overflow crowd. so should be a pretty fun time out here downtown san jose tonight. live, chris nguyen, abc 7 news. back to you. >> fun, thanks chris. >> you remember sweetie the warriors oldest fan who revelled in the dubs' magical nba championship win last year? >> yeah. well, she like other fans is ready for a repeat. >> abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler has the story. >> reporter: at 106 years old, sweetie uses a wheelchair but is going strong. just like her warriors. >> the warriors are going to win. i know. >> reporter: the dub nation matriarch has been following the team for years. last season her devotion rated a shout-out from coach kerr. >> sweetie, if you're watching out there, congrats. >> oh, yes, i watched them.
5:22 pm
>> reporter: what do you fuss at them about? >> if they don't do what i want them to do. and i know they can't hear me. it's kind of stupid but i do it anyway. >> reporter: golden state's slogan is strength in numbers. her favorite is 23, draymond green. >> oh, i love to watch him. he has grace. >> reporter: the dedicated fan turns 107 years old sunday. a repeat of last year's championship would be the perfect present. so what's your message to the warriors tonight? >> do your best. >> reporter: in the east bay, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> all right, city hall in san francisco is showing its warriors pride. the team flag is flying high above the main entrance. >> and that flag shows the wind today. let's get a check on the weather and also the temperature for tonight's game in cleveland. >> let's go to sandhya patel. >> dan and kristen, i would call this a winning forecast in
5:23 pm
cleveland. take a look for yourselves. it is going to be mild when the warriors, of course, take on the cavs, winning for the warriors, 65 degrees and then by 11:00 p.m. eastern standard time 59 degrees it is going to be clear if you're at the watch party or heading over there at oracle arena, 66 degrees so quite comfortable here when you walk out later on this evening in the upper 50s. and a look at the accuweather seven day forecast, we'll go with mild the next couple of days inland, comfortable at the coast, cooler than average for the next two days, breezy pattern and then over the weekend as you look at that accuweather seven-day forecast we're warming it up for you. not too hot, though. warriors are going do be hot tonight, though, right? >> right, sandhya. thanks very much. can lebron james and the cleveland cavaliers dig themselves out of the hole they've created in these nba finals? >> that's the challenge. this is a live look at quicken loans arena. stay with us. more to come when we come back, our sports team weighs in with

>> reporter: welcome back to quicken loans arena. i'm mike shumann. of course, the game is it about 40 minute as way. time to make you're picks. i'm going to stay consistent. all year i've picked the game three road team to lose. i'm doing saimt. i think cleveland has to win the game. i'm going with the cav leefrz. >> don't hate on me. i'd like to see the series go more than four games. now, on the broadcast, you're going to see faces in the stands instead of thunder sticks. bill clinton, bernie sanders, george bush. it will be interesting to check it out during the broadcast. reporting live at quicken loans, don't hate on me, back to larry and adonal. >> reporter: i like the courage there, shu. i'm not sure about the mustache on -- is he a lyft driver now, too? who are you picking tonight? >> look, i think that if
5:27 pm
cleveland has any chance in this series, they have to win tonight so i'll pick cleveland tonight. >> reporter: am i the only one that's going to pick the warriors? i think lebron is going to go off. he's going to listen to what phil jackson said and turn into jordan, take over the game, be the superstar, and lebron his response is, well, that's not really what i do. he has to do that. if you're going to do it at all, right? >> do it all the way, right? >> reporter: the city of cleveland, by the way, has gone 52 years without a pro sports championship. they are so hungry. and so desperate. but it's not going to happen this year! lebron goes for 42 tonight, and the cavs lose adonal, write it down, 42. i'm often wrong. i'm often wrong. let's go back to wrap it up with dan and kristen. as we get ready for the watch party which is going to be fun. >> kristen wants it to be 53 years without a pro franchise
5:28 pm
win. >> reporter: it will be, don't we're, kristen. just decide where you want to be at the parade. that's all you've got to figure out. >> pick my spot now. >> we're going down with duct tape and lawn chairs tonight to mark a spot. >> and no one is hating on shu. he just wants it extended. >> just call being it like he seize it. >> abc's coverage of game three gets under way next here on abc 7. tip-off coming up soon, 6:00. >> that's followed by abc 7's "after the game." larry beal and mike shumann and adonal foyle. >> then jimmy kimmel live game night and we'll be on early with a one-hour edition of abc 7 news beginning at 10:30. hey, enjoy the ball game and go warriors. >> i'm looking at the countdown clock. 1:43. cannot wait. >> i'm dan ashley. appreciate your time. >> i'm kristen sze. stick around. abc's coverage of game three just moments away now.
