it's drawn outrage across country. good evening. >> brock turner is in the santa clara county jail, set to be released on september 2, meaning he'd only serve three months. we have team coverage live in stanford with a look at the national attention this case is getting. david? >> this is a major development going on here. a major drive to get the judge recalled. this seems to under score the belief that the judge needs to be held accountable for a controversial sentence. and jurors seem to be saying the judge a message of disapproval. the multiple petition campaigns have amassed a million signatures and those behind them will deliver them tomorrow to the state commission on judicial performance. they want the judge removed after giving former stanford swimmer, brock turner, a six month sentence for sexual

assault. court documents say he was intoxicated and the victim, passed out. >> the judge is concerned more concerned about his future than the future of the woman he was convicted of raping. >> vice president biden wrote an open letter to brock turner's victim, quote, doi not know your name, but i know that a lot of people failed you that terrible january night and in the months that followed. peninsula congress woman jackie speier brought up the case in congress. >> turner will probably serve three months. why? because the judge said longer sentence would have a quote, severe impact, unkwoelt, on turner. a severe impact. what a travesty. >> the judge received death threats and yesterday, several perspective jurors asked to be excused because they didn't want to serve in his court. david louie, abc7 news.

brock turner came to stanford from a small city in ohio and abc7 news went there today. >> fewer than 10,000 people call oakwood home. >> amy hollyfield spent the day seeing the places where turner grew up. >> reporter: we're in oakwood, ohio the community that raised convicted rapist brock turner who doesn't want to talk about him. also, his fajer doesn't want to talk. dan turner was on his cell phone today, the man who had been criticized told us he wasn't interested when he realized who we were and shut the down. neighbors say the turners haven't lived on the street for long, one neighbor says his heart goes out to the victim. >> i think it's inexcusable. >> turner received a six month sentence for a sexual assault of a woman. the light sentence sparked

national outrage and horrified some in the small community of oakwood, where turner grew up. >> as a resident of oakwood, kind of ashamed. this represents oakwood, nationally. it's embarrassing. >> reporter: before he left for stanford, he was a three-time all american swimmer at oakwood high school. school is out for the summer but offices are still open. the superintendent told us he did not want to talk about turner on camera. he would let a written statement stand saying the district does not share the view of a guidance counsellor who wrote a letter on behalf of the convicted rapist to the court. the guidance councillor since apologized, saying of course he shall be held accountable. i pray for those affect by the this horrible event. others are facing a backlash. local drummer leslie rasmussen

testified as a character witness for turner and now, her band's gigs are being cancelled across the country. this small opportunity is dealing with what happened to one of its own. in oakwood, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> this case has drawn national attention and sparked several recall petitions. the judge is running unopposed in november. at 6:00 a high school wrestling coach is now in jail on charges he committed lewd acts with a teen-aged girl last month. he is the wrestling coach at independence high school and coaches a summer wrestling club. the victim is reportedly a 14-year-old member of the club.

police want help finding the emthat stole a boy's puppy from him at gun point. take a look at maya, a three month old german sheperd. police say her 14 year old was taking him for a walk. the men got away with his dog. if you have information call san leandro police. take a look at new video this evening of a grass fire that spread to two homes in antioch this afternoon. it broke out just before 4:00. three smaller buildings were damaged in addition to two homes. no one was hurt. >> california's new right to die law is in effect tonight. however, terminally ill patients must meet a strict list of requirements to end their lives. leslie, you've been speaking to

people affected by this law. >> reporter: kaiser permanente says they will offer end of life medication but will not require doctors to participate to those with less than six months to live will have a new choice to make when it comes with how to die. >> we all have a beginning, middle and end. >> brittany maynard opened up the conversation. in 2014, faced with a brain tumor she moved from alamo to orring owe orring in order to die with dignity. >> within five minutes of taking the medication, brittany fell asleep. very peacefully. and within 30 minutes her breathing slowed to the point where she passed away. >> in order to be prescribed the end of life medication, you have to be terminally ill, be able to sign documents, meet doctors and be able to self administer the law. the patient's right action fund

abc7 news is learning about a high profile murder case in hillsborough. >> yes. we're learning what led to the arrest of the victim's ex-girlfriend and two others. >> he three people have been arrested, charged with the murder of keith green, li's ex-boyfriend and father of their two young children. his body was found in a field with a single gunshot wound to the neck.

a week and a half later, may 20th, sheriff deputies went to this apartment building in burlingame and arrested olivier adella, li's trainer. a s.w.a.t. team raided this mansion and arrested li and bayat. several sources tell us after investigators identified green's body, they began looking at li and bayat. their prob led them to adella who ran a limo business. investigators found he sold his mercedes shortly after green went missing. they checked the car. sources say by using luminol, they found blood traces in the trunk that turned out to be green's. they found evidence that led them to believe adella was a flight risk. they took him into custody. a former fbi agent now in private security believes the arrest yielded critical information. >> there is a likelihood when

you're talking about a life sentence or a long sentence that somebody will talk. >> reporter: now, armed with a search warrant, the s.w.a.t. team went into li's home. they took her and bayat into custody. >> they knew what they were looking for. >> reporter: sources tell us investigators believe green was killed in the garage or another apartment where li lived during her separation from green. vic lee, abc7 news. a woman accused of stealing an ambulance and crashing it on treasure island pleaded not guilty today. the 37-year-old is charged with two felonies and police say they led police on a chase onto the bay bridge. the ambulance crashed on the off ramp and got caught, delaying traffic two hours.

this morning, bart's board of directors decided to place a $3.5 billion bond on the november ballot that aims to fix a lot of breakdowns in a 44-year-old transit system. >> things like electrical system has been a big part of the recent breakdowns. that is a focus of the bond. the train contoll is another one. >> the bond would increase taxes by up to $55 a year in san francisco, alameda and contra costa counties. right now, 308 votes separate candidates in a contested south bay congressional race between mike honda and ro cana. cana holds on to a narrow lead. both candidates have secured spots on the november ballot. president obama endorsed
