and that breaking news is in oakland tonight. there is a huge shakeup in the oakland police department involving police chief steve wentz. >> let's talk to melissa harrington. >> reporter: sources tell abc 7 that chief wentz submitted his resignation under pressure. now no reason was given, and he has been the chief for two years, as well as a 19-year veteran of the police department. he has been criticized for the handling of an underage sex scandal. now we have more from the county president. saying the appointment of the chief is the administration's call, but i am saddened to learn of his departure. at this point we learned a deputy chief would be taking over as interim chief and we'll have more details at a news conference tomorrow. reporting live in oakland, melissa harrington, abc 7 news. thank you, we'll have more

on abc 7 news bay area. and i'm ama dietz. tonight, we learned new information about the partying path of the former stanford student convicted of sexual assault. >> brock turner's six-month sentence for the sexual assault sparked outrage. more from the santa clara county jail. >> reporter: from documents we learned another woman at the party identified brock turner the aggressive guy when police showed her the lineup. she said she had to get away from turner after he grabbed her waist. the judge sentenced brock to six months for the sexual assault at stanford because of his age and lack of criminal record. but the prosecution's full sentencing memo obtained by abc

7 news showed he harassed other women, showing he was also aggressive with another female at another fraternity party at another location. the evidence showed that he lied to the judge, had routinely engaged in smoking marijuana and had experimented with other drugs, specifically, acid. it is information the judge had had before him when he sentenced him. others are demanding action. >> that the judge step down, or that we move forward and call on all women in this valley to align with us in asking for his resignation. >> reporter: nearly a million people appear to have joined the recall effort. advocacy groups say they have collected those signatures and will deliver them to the judicial review. >> the judge should be more concerned about his future than the future of the woman that he

was convicted of raping. >> reporter: turner was convicted of three felonies, who sexually assaulting the woman who was unconscious behind a dumpster on campus. the case has thrust the small community where brock turner grew up in unwanted spotlight. abc 7 traveled there to get reaction. we went to his family's new home in bellbrook, ohio, and knocked on the door. his father declined to speak wind. none of the neighbors wanted to speak as well. others are horrified by the details coming up. >> as a resident of oakwood, kind of a shame. this embarrasses us nationally. >> and anyone supporting turner is facing a back lash, his high school superintendent didn't want to go on the record with us. and others supporting his character say her band is losing gigs because of the back lash.

stay in touch with us, download the mobile app for free. in the east bay today, police announced they have now rescued three teenage girls from what they call a sex trafficking operation, the girls are 14, 15 and 16. the rescue operation happened when somebody reported a girl was being kidnapped. police say they're now safe. >> our investigators are working with the families to determine or time lines, how long the girls had been gone with their extensive time period. or was it a short period. >> investigators arrested a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman for the crimes. police suspect there may be more victims involved in this operation. new tonight, a wrestling coach at independence high school in san jose hasñi been arrested and charged with committing lewd acts with a child. 34-year-old mark alquisa was arrested in san jose without incident. police say the incident happened

in the last month and involved a 14-year-old girl who was a member of his summer wrestling club. also new tonight, san leandro police are searching for the armed gunman who stole a puppy. this german shepherd puppy named maya was stolen from her owner. there was surveillance video that actually showed the crime as it happened. look closely at this security camera footage, a grainy image of a teenager walking on dayton avenue with this new german shepherd puppy, maya, a car pulls up, the man demands the dog but the 14-year-old refused, a second man was bolder. >> the second man came apartmrm with a gun and the kid feared for his safety. >> the car takes off, the teen, then seen walking home without his dog to call police.

>> the neighbors are stunned. they say that this is supposed to be a safe place for dog walkers and kids. >> my kids walk back and forth here to practice all the time. i won't let them walk by themselves, that is for sure. >> the motive for the robbery is not known, the most important thing we do is get the dog back as soon as possible. we get maya back to the boy that she really belongs to. >> police have only a vague description of the thieves. the camera got a better look at the car, a light colored sedan, call police if you have information to reunited this boy with his dog. and tonight, silicon valley is remembering a man who helped put it on the map. thomas perkins was one of the founding fathers of venture capital investment and young ñi start-up companies. in 1972, he created one company,

tomorrow. and meteorologist sandy patel has more. >> let's check out live doppler 7 hd right now. you will notice changes on the way. low clouds, very patchy right now. the marine layer is not as extensive as it has been in the last several days. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. you can clearly see san francisco. the financial district. and so this is just signaling a change that is coming over the next few days. a few clouds in the morning, we're looking at breezy and below normal temperature again tomorrow afternoon, a normal pattern is setting up for the upcoming weekend. i think the computer model is overdoing the clouds here, there will be a few clouds, patchy low clouds, for most of you, you will start out with lots of clear skies. temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s when you get going. and then those clouds at 5:00

a.m. that are around will thin out. many of the communities seeing the sunshine. and you will notice just a few high clouds passing through, filtering the sun. overall it will be a brighter day, and definitely going to be another breezy afternoon for your friday. so temperature-wise, 64 in san francisco tomorrow. 61 in half moon bay. we'll get you up to the low 70s for san raphael. 69 in oakland, 77 santa rosa, get out towards the inland valleys and it will be a mild sunny day. 79 in concord, livermore, fairfield, 74 in palo alto, 70 degrees in santa cruz. these temperatures are not where they should be for this time of year. but look at it this way, you save on the ac bill, not for long though as you look at the temperature trend for livermore. average high tomorrow, many cities will run below normal. and then as we head towards the weekend it warms up, temperatures going back down again. tuesday through thursday, there is a reason for it. another area of low pressure

just like the one we're dealing with now keeping us cooler than average. will pass through northern california, so that is on thursday you will notice that that is bringing the showers to northern california here in the bay area we're just expecting a deeper marine layer, cooler air, and below average temperatures for that time. so that will keep our fire danger down obviously for the time being. now, we take a look at the giants forecast tomorrow. they take on the dodgers, it will be breezy at at&t park, but pleasant, sun will be shining early on. and then clear skies at night. 59 agree 7:15, dropping down to six, because of the cool breeze you may need a sweatshihirt. a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast. we'll go with the temperatures in the low 80s tomorrow, warming up for the weekend, mid-60s to the low 90s for the weekend. as far as the range, so it will look like a summer spread there. and then temperatures do start to fall on monday, mid-80s for the warmest locations, getting
