aftershocks ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 magnitude. the 5.2 was felt in a number of counties in southern california. these 15 million people live in that area. it hit about 110 miles southeast of where we are right now and one of the reasons so many people felt it, it was very shallow quake, only about a half mile deep. check out the cars rocking up and down in that parking garage. residents in los angeles reported feeling windows shaking, buildings rolling in waves. not exactly what tony hawk said. he tweeted earthquake. felt like a bus hit our house. tweets from other residents included that earthquake was terrifying, felt like a train coming into my bedroom. there was that 6.1 quake in nicarag nicaragua. is this the big one? experts tell us probably not. that big one is forecasts for

the san andreas fault and this happened in the san javindo fault. now to the race for the white house and president obama getting behind hillary clinton making it clear he will do everything he can to help her defeat donald trump and abc's jon karl has the latest from the white house. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, amy. well, now that hillary clinton has clinched the democratic nomination, president obama is finally backing her campaign and he's encouraging all democrats including bernie sanders to get in her corner. >> i'm with her. i'm fired up and i cannot wait to get out there and campaign for hillary. >> reporter: in a splashy video endorsement, president obama said his former 2008 rival is ready for the oval office. even more ready than he was eight years ago. >> in fact, i don't think there's ever been someone so qualified to hold this office. >> reporter: the president

heaped praise on clinton for her work as secretary of state. >> from the decision we made in the situation room to get bin laden to our pursuit of diplomacy in capitals around the world i've seen her judgment, toughness and commitment to our values up close. >> reporter: donald trump responded on twitter, obama just endorsed crooked hillary. he wants four more years of obama but nobody else does. the clinton campaign fired back tweeting "delete your account." that's now the single most retweeted message of hillary clinton's campaign. trump jabbed back, how long did it take your staff of 823 people to think that up and where are your 33,000 e-mails that you deleted? clinton now has another ally in her fight against trump. picking up the endorsement of senator elizabeth warren last night. >> donald trump is a loud, nasty thin-skinned fraud who has never

risked anything for anyone and who serves no one but himself. [ cheers and applause ] ♪ >> reporter: meanwhile, bernie sanders is still in the race, last night rallying the faithful in washington, d.c. but after meeting at the white house with president obama, sanders sounds like he too may soon be ready to join forces with clinton. >> i look forward to meeting with her in the near future to see how we can work together to defeat donald trump. >> reporter: officials here at the white house and aides out at the clinton campaign say that president obama will be out on the campaign for hillary clinton repeatedly over the coming months, michelle obama, the first lady, will also be out there. it all starts on wednesday, george, when president obama will be campaigning with hillary in green bay, wisconsin. >> jon karl, thanks very much. we turn to my interview with house speaker paul ryan. he has called donald trump's attack of a federal judge a textbook definition of racism but continues to support the gop nominee who's called out critics like ryan for political

correctness. that's where we began. >> this is something that needed to be condemned. that comment is beyond the pale. that's not political correctness suggesting someone can't do their job because of their race or ethnicity. that's not a politically incorrect thing to do. that's just a wrong thing to say and i hope that he gets that. i believe he walked this comment back so i think -- >> have you spoken to him about it? >> i have and explained exactly what i thought about that comment. i said it publicly and privately. look, we want to offer the country a clear and compelling choice so that we can earn a mandate from the nation to fix our country's problems and those kind of comments get in the way of that kind of dialogue we need to have. >> they get in the way and it's not the first time. you said in explaining why you're standing by your endorsement of mr. trump what matters more to you more than anything are our core principles but what core principle is more important to the party of lincoln than standing up against racism. >> that's why i did it and spoke out against it. it won't be the last time if

this continues. hopefully this won't continue. hopefully the campaign will move in a better direction so it can be one we can all be proud of, but here's the point. we got two choices, hillary clinton, donald trump. a republican presidency, a democratic presidency. seven out of ten americans believe that the country is going in the wrong direction. we agree with that. so we're offering the country an alternative and when you're the republican president to work with to put that together -- >> does that president have the temperament to be commander in chief? >> i can't speak for had is stage presence but in private it's much better than what you see on stage. >> you're confident he could be an effective commander in chief. >> i certainly believe he's better than hillary clinton. these are the choices we have and here's the question i ask do i believe these principles and policies have a better chance of making the law with donald trump than hillary clinton? absolutely. i do believe that. >> even if that president then espouses values that you don't share? >> i don't know that he believes that in his heart.

i don't know what's in his heart but i do think, hope and believe that he's going to improve the tenor of the campaign, the tone and the kind of campaign that he's going to run. i believe we need to be inspirational, aspirational and inclusive and that to me is what the country is hungry for. >> that's not the campaign that donald trump has been running. >> it's not and i hope that it gets there. >> and we'll have more from ryan sunday on "this week" along with bernie sanders and trump campaign manager paul manafort. >> we have even more now on the race for the white house. a new batch of clinton e-mails out this morning raising questions about a donor to the clinton foundation and how he ended up on a government intelligence advisory board. abc's brian ross is here with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, amy. the newly released state department e-mails being made public here this morning reveal how under secretary of state she hillary clinton a major donor was pent on a sensitive government security advisory board even though he had no

known experience in the air. international security advisory board includes some of the country's most prominent people on nuclear strategy, all with top secret clearances. but in 2011, the clinton state department also added this man, rajiv fernando, a commodities broker with no known connection to the national security world. >> i'd like to invite to the stage raj fernando. >> reporter: what he was known for before and after was raising and giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to democratic campaigns and as much as $250,000 to the clinton foundation. >> abc news, do you have a second to talk? >> reporter: when we approached him at the democratic convention -- >> how did you get appointed to that board? can you talk about that? >> how do you know my name? he became upset and we were threatened with arrest. >> you'll be arrested. >> i'll be arrested. for asking questions of this man? >> but now the new set of state department e-mails obtained

after a lawsuit brought by citizens united reveals the role of clinton's chief of staff cheryl mills in appointing the big donor with a senior career official using the shorthand "s" is a common reference to secretary clinton. the true answer is simply that s staff cheryl mills added him. raj was not on the list sent to s. he was added at their insistence. >> i don't know who will be giving money. >> reporter: at her confirmation hearing she vowed donors would not get special treatment. >> it will not be in the atmosphere. >> reporter: it shows when abc began asking questions about the appointment of fernando in 2011, top clinton aide cheryl mills asked the press officer to stall for 24 hours. the very next day fernando submitted his resignation from the prestigious board. the clinton campaign declined to comment on our story and the state department said it's not unusual for the secretary's chief of staff to play a role.

as for fernando he has continued to raise big dollars for the clinton campaign and has given more than a million dollars to the clinton foundation, in fact he'll be one of her superdelegates. >> there is another new report about hillary's e-mails on the front page of "the wall street journal" linking them to some potentially sensitive messages about drone strikes oversea. >> that's right. "the wall street journal" is reporting the ongoing fbi investigation is focusing on these messages sent by american diplomats in pakistan about pending drone attacks which ended up on her personal e-mail server. but the journal says the messages were vaguely worded and did not use the term cia or drone. abc news has not been able to independently confirm the general's report, amy. >> brian, thanks so much. >> secretary clinton still waiting to be interviewed by the fbi on that. we move to the growing backlash over the six-month sentence for the stanford swimmer convicted of sexual assault. vice president biden has weighed in with an impassioned letter to the victim and eva pilgrim has the details.

>> reporter: the uproar over the senate sparking a national conversation on sexual violence. the victim's own words revealing and very personal striking a cord with people of all walks of life including the vice president. this morning, the stanford sexual assault case even drawing in the vice president. i do not know your name, joe biden wrote thursday but your words are forever seared on my soul biden heading those to the anonymous survivor in response to the letter she wrote and read out loud to her attacker in court. biden writes, you will never be defined by what the defendant's father callously termed 20 minutes of action. his son will be. former stanford swimmer brock turner who faced 14 years in prison for sexual assault but was sentenced to just six months and is expected to serve only half that time behind bar, that sentence stoking the vice president and the nation's outrage. while the justice system has spoken in your particular case, the nation is not satisfied.

and the judge who handed down that sentence, aaron persky, the subject of a mounting backlash. abc affiliate kgo learning that about a dozen jurors were dismissed from jury duty wednesday after refusing to serve in persky's court. >> more than a million people have now signed a petition calling for the removal of that judge. amy. >> all right, thank you so much. eva. now to that deadly plane crash in houston. three family members killed when the aircraft crashed in a parking lot after an air traffic controller tried to help the pilot safely land. abc's david kerley has more now from reagan national airport. david, good morning to you. >> reporter: a tragic loss of family over an eight-minute period three separate attempts to land safely. the plane with a parachute slammed into a store parking lot. >> all of a sudden it just, shhh, right down. >> reporter: without the life-saving chute deployed all three on board killed. our houston station quoting saying dana gray, an oklahoma

second degree. >> reporter: after a judge threw out the charges abc news has learned that alexandria is on her way to utica to attend her twin's funeral. anastasia died after their ford explorer plunged 200 feet off this rocky cliff with alexandria at the wheel. at a preliminary hearing wednesday prosecutors argued she accelerated. never even attempting to brake during the ordeal using the vehicle's black box as evidence. >> that speed gradually increased over the five-second period to the time of air bag deployment. >> reporter: an eyewitness testifying he saw them arguing violently in the car moments before the crash with the woman in the passenger seat pulling the hair of the woman in the driver's seat. a statement corroborated by the autopsy report. >> is it true that they recovered hair clumps from anastasia duval's hands?

>> it wasn't clumps but, yes, sir. >> reporter: duval's attorney arguing there was no crime. >> this was a tragic accident. it was not a homicide. >> reporter: the 37-year-old seen here with her attorney after the ruling in an orange jail suit and her arm in a sling. not the yoga gear she's used to. >> feel the outer rim of your back foot. >> reporter: but her legal woes may be far from over. representatives from the prosecutor's office telling abc news they are considering all options at this point. we believe that a crime has been committed. for "good morning america," kayna whitworth, abc news, los angeles. >> okay, let's talk about it with dan abrams and nancy grace. dan, you were definitive and said this is not a murder case. the judge agreed. >> look, there was no evidence that this was an intentional murder. i kept saying maybe there's something else out there that we don't know about. maybe something will come out in this preliminary hearing which will tell us, oh, this is why they're charging her with intentionally trying to kill her sister.

all they had was that she appeared to have accelerated and didn't brake. that's not enough for an intentional murder charge and i say bravo to the judge because it almost never happens that a judge throws out a case this early in the process. >> bravo to the judge, nancy? >> well, i have never seen dan abrams as happy as he is this morning because the judge agreed with him but it ain't over yet, all right. number one, the prosecution may very well take this to a grand jury and i think we're going to see the baby sliced down the middle. i think there is going to be a felony charge against her regardless of what a judge says. i think that it will probably be either starting with a murder two charge and then giving all the alternatives that dan has accurately laid out. you've got voluntary manslaughter, negligent homicide one, two and three degrees. but i'd like to point out something that i learned just recently.

an eyewitness told us last night on our program on hln that they, it's a boy scout leader and a whole troop of boy scout leaders see the driver, see the driver alexandria fighting with the sister and then the car is in park and they're fighting, she turns off the hazard lights, puts the car drive and floors it. it is totally thelma and louise. i'm just telling you that's what they saw and that is intentional. >> no, no, but that may be reckless driving. that may be negligent homicide but the notion that she's hitting the gas because she wants to kill her sister and go over the cliff with her is a super long shot, nancy, america -- >> what you said day one. you said murder, suicide. look, nobody is here speaking for the dead victim this morning. i am and i think this is wrong and another thing the judge said is that she didn't know there was a cliff.

elementary kids fight. now, in your experience covering politics where you have a lot of experience have you ever seen a campaign fight get this vicious so soon? >> oh, michael, this vicious? trust me, it's going to get a lot worse. you are looking at the two most unpopular major party presumptive nominees in the history of presidential polling. this will get a lot nastier and vicious. there is an old expression that with newspaper publishers, you don't pick a fight with somebody who buys ink by the barrel. well, when it comes to tweeting, donald trump buys it by the barrel. he has 32,000 tweets over the course of his twitter account. that is five tweets for every one sent by hillary clinton. this one by hillary clinton, though, got 400,000 almost retweets already double-edge sword, michael. most of those, many of them at least are people taunting hillary for deleting her e-mails. >> so but he came back and fired

back pretty strong against her for that word "delete" speaking about her private e-mail account. do you think it's a good idea to get into a twitter war with someone like donald trump who is notorious as you say for really getting his opponents online? >> well, it's dangerous but hillary clinton is increasingly echoing his tactic, taunting, trolling him and it's not just hillary clinton, you see elizabeth warren doing the same thing. they've decided it's worked very well for donald trump to get attention, they're going to give it a shot clearly. >> we always tell our kids stay off -- don't do anything online. >> don't do what the presidential candidates are doing, kids. >> all right, jon, thank you. in tonight's game four of the nba finals, going to be watching that, the warriors are up 2-1 against the cavs but some are wondering what's going on with two-time mvp steph curry. the three-time nba champion and espn analyst is here with us, bruce bowen. bruce, how are you doing, my friend. >> i'm good. how are you doing, brother? >> i'm doing great.

a lot think that teenagers can't get it. they can get it and do get it. one of the symptoms of endometriosis is severe menstrual cramps. that's common in teenagers. that in and of itself is undertreated and underdiagnosed. the gold standard to treat painful periods, ibuprofen and low dose birth control pills. studies have shown that in teenagers who do not have their pain relieved with both of those two treatments, over 50% of them will have endometriosis diagnosed and surgery, important to make that diagnosis. >> are you saying the low -- the birth control can actually help? >> it's one of the treatments for endometriosis. so it's important to get ahead of this before ten years goes by and it can do more damage. >> so many kids or young ladies have big -- you know, big deep cramps. are you saying go to a doctor. don't self-diagnose. >> 100% see an adolescent gynecologist because, again, it's 2016. these should be treated.
