5:00 pm
before the tip-off of our coverage about 30 minutes from the coverage of dpaimgame four. let's look back at game three. not the results of what we were looking for, a 30-point blowout. steve kerr and the players said they didn't come out ready and with the right energy to seize the opportunity. the warriors are now 0-4 in game threes this postseason and this might have been their wake-up call. >> everything was great. we were doing great. boy what are the cavs going to do? are they going to get swept? you know, they're a great team. they win a game. now there's lineup changes and oh my god steph curry can't play well. what's klay going to do? when you go through the playoffs you understand that this is all part of it. >> i think we were extremely soft we got bullied, pinkuchked. any other work you can find for it. >> you're down 33-14 on the road in the finals you're not going to win many games and a team that has confidence. of the first six minutes of the game tomorrow is going to be important for you us to let them know we're here. >> >> reporter: all right, i
5:01 pm
bring in adonal foyle and coach called this team soft. i mean that alone should fire you up right? >> indeed. if that doesn't fire you up, i don't know what will. >> reporter: exactly. all right, steph curry he's already anuanced he's not going to play in the olympic thz summer. he's pretty beat-up. are we look forge a break jut game for him finally or is something actual live wrong? >> i think that's a bit of a mistake. i thought that when he played in the first two games, one of the things they did is they created for other people. he created for other people. klay created for other people. i think he's just got to get back to playing the game and if you can get shot, that is not the extent of who he is. he does so many other things in the flow. >> last year the warriors were down 2-un1 to the cavaliers. this year they're up to 2-1. is that 30-point blowout enough to get you fired up for game four? >> i think so. one thing this team has showed all year is this a team that when their backs are against the
5:02 pm
wall they play great. but it's also they take pride in how they play. i think the biggest thing is not that they shot 9 for 33 for the last game, but the fact that the energy wasn't there. they did not compete at the level that they are used to. i think they're going to be disappointed at them sxs and they're going to come out and show they have something to prove and they are going to prove they can play at a hirer level. >> how can you not be preparz for a game three when you're up 2-1 and you can bury a team. >> right. i think that's why we play the game. when it's a change of venue the routine you're out of the routine, ute of your dfrt zone. out of your element. and part of the game is you just are have to know you have a team that you are on the ropes and you know you have to take the team and now compete with them. they now believe they can win this next game. you considerhave to go in and break their will. it may take half the game or the 18 tire game. but you have to break them and really show that you are -- reassert you yourselves as the best team in the nba. >> cleveland definitely has
5:03 pm
their confidence back. andrew bogut, his time has diminished in every game. last year not much in the finals last year. do we see them going with a small lineup to start the game? >> this year i've noticed with steve kerr, he won't panic and he won't let anyone know he's panicking. he's going to go to his traditional lineup but i do dare say that everybody's going to be on a short leash tonight. which is if you're not giving him what he wants' goss's going to look for different combinations of things tonight and he's going to see what works. but you're not going to show your hand coming out of the gate. you're going to see what the guys give you during the course of the game. >> we'll have a lot more from adonal coming up along with espn's marc spears live at quicken loans arena. first wayne freedman is switching gears covering somer sports. he is live at quicken loans arena with a look at the cavs. wayne? >> reporter: thanks, mike. i know a little bit about sports. after two games the warriors had a commanding lead as they came to cleveland. the question was, will cleveland
5:04 pm
even win one game? then we know what happened on wednesday night during game three. lebron james and kyrie irving put the critics on notice, it was a blowout win frankly. another win top of the and the cavaliers will have the momentum. the series will be tied at 2-2. but they know they have a lot of work ahead of them. >> we can't afford to go down 3-1 and go into their building giving them confidence going back. it's a do or die game for us still. >> we have a better understanding of them and protecting home court is where we are right now and we understand that. >> just being physical and being aggressive i think in the first of the games in golden state they were definitely that. they were more physical and they were more aggressive than we were and we turned the tables on them. >> reporter: and one last note as we come back live with the warriors practicing behind the cavaliers at home in this postseason are undefeated. the question tonight is, will they remain undefeated? live in cleveland, wayne
5:05 pm
freedman, abc 7 news. >> reporter: all right, thanks a lot wayne. and make sure to check us out on twitter throughout the game. we'll be breaking down game four live. you can follow me of course adonal we'll answer your questions during the postgame show. larry biel usually with us. he's attending his daughter's high school gratd waigsduation tonight. tomorrow college graduation. he's making a late surge for father of the year. we'll be back but for now we'll go to the abc 7 newsroom. >> larry has double duty. here tonight for high school and then down south for college tomorrow. >> busy weekend. as you can see from the countdown clock on your screen we have just about 24 minutes to go until abc's game four cover ang begins. >> i'm getting excited. the warriors owner joe lake on and peter gub erlt did something really nice. they chartered a flight for
5:06 pm
roughly 120 full time employees to travel to cleveland to watch tonight's game. this is video provided by the warriors. as you can imagine, the workers were excited to get to the game to cheer on their dubs. >> and we are also in cleveland and we have a live team coverage on the fans both there and here. >> let's start with amy hollyfield with a look at how dubs fans are feeling about game four. amy? >> reporter: 11-year-old mia's jump shot may not be ready for the finals but she is confident her warriors are ready. >> steph and klay are just going to go off tonight and make all their shots. >> reporter: they sure didn't make their shots wednesday night. and the crowd likely played a role in that game. it was so loud even some cavs fans were impressed. >> and it was raisy. the most unbelievable atmosphere
5:07 pm
i've been part of. >> reporter: pride is at an all-time high right now in cleveland. sales at this t-shirt shop doubled after that win. >> after the two we were so bummed. we came back and crushed them and everyone was just super psyched. >> reporter: but mia is dressed for had her team, too. head to toe warriors. she's bringing her vocal chords to the game as well. >> i'm going to yell as loud as i can and cheer for them. >> reporter: they know they're going to have to yell loudly tonight, even cavs fans tell us they were impressed with how loud the crowd was during wednesday's game. they are ready to use this home court to their advantage. reporting live from cleveland amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy thanks. >> absolutely. now we'll go to abc 7 news reporter laura anthony live at oracle arena for tonight's big watch party. laura? >> reporter: hi there, ama. i am here at oracle arena. i was going to say quicken loans
5:08 pm
arena. that one will also be fum. so will this one. sold-out tonight, 19000 people here for a game that is 2500 miles away. among those watching here and all over the bay area, the warriors young fans. at the alameda boys and girls club basketball is in the air and on the floor among these kids who want to be like steph. doesn't he seem like a good guy off the court, too? >> yes. whenever they lose, he shows good spart sportsmanship. >> stephen curry has kids and he plays basketball, takes care of his kids and have a wife. >> reporter: who is better, lebronor or steph? >> steph curry definitely. >> reporter: why? >> because he has better handles and he shoots -- he's better at shooting. >> reporter: dujuan is just 7
5:09 pm
but he's well on his way when it comes to honing his skills and not just in the paint. how are your three point shots? >> good i made both of them. >> reporter: while they work on their own games these kids are also well aware of what the warriors need to do tonight against the cavs. who's going to win tonight? >> the warriors. >> reporter: by how much? >> 160-95 i guess. >> reporter: in alameda, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> and we want to see your fan photos during tonight's game. all you have to do is post them on facebook twitter or instagram and right there use the hash tag dubs on 7. >> take a look at the pictures warriors fans have already shared. we have some great shots. there is a lot of team spirit all across the bay area. very exciting series. great night again tonight. >> i love seeing all the little kids and all the animals as well. so cute. with it just about 20 minutes left in our countdown to
5:10 pm
game four we have a lot nor to go. >> we do. stay with us. can the dubs bounce back from that blowout loss the other night? espn senior nba writer marc spears weighs in on that question. and of course we check in with stans who are ready to watch the game on a big screen right outside of san francisco's city hall. >> stay right here with us. the abc 7 news warriors pregame show is just getting started. back in a second.
5:11 pm
5:12 pm
we've been through everything. this is a long season. we've seen everything. and anything. so we'll be prepared you know. we can be down 3-1 that's the thing. we can be you up. we can have a 73-win season. we can be told we're not good. we can be told we're the best. we've heard and seen everything. >> we're back at the official warriors watch party here at oracle arena and of course our
5:13 pm
beautiful set here supplied by our friends at espn as we count down to game four between the warriors and the cavaliers. but let's fake you out to quicken loans arena and of course you can see fans and players warming up before the game. joining us now marc spears senior writer at espn. marc thanks for join\ing us. you've been doing an online diary with draymond green. how does he expect the dubs to answer the blowout after game three? >> he said that he and his two fellow all-stars stephen curry and klay thompson have played, quote unquote, awful. let's see what happens tonight. look, it's the finals. they have to pick it un. steph has played better i think late in games because it seems like his knee is warming up late in games. klay i don't know where he's been. this is nt the game we saw in the previous series who was so heroic against okc. outside of a really good game two, draymond hasn't played that well either. i'm sure they want to go back to oracle where you're at up 3-1,
5:14 pm
get it over with and party in front of their own fans party and get that championship. but if they lose tonight it's certainly going to be a lot longer than that. we'll be back in cleveland. >>. >> reporter: well, their perimeter defense by cleveland has been unbelieve of believable pretty much shutting down steph and klay. what is it going to take to get the splash brothers going again? >> well they both said they need to be more aggressive. i think what that means is probably taking the ball to the basket more. this isn't the oklahoma city thunder as far as blocking shots. yes lebron is a shot blocking threat and thompson can be. but this a team they certainly can get lay ups on. i think they have to mix it up more. they can't just settle for the jumper and force theup perfect like they have a bunch of times of they don't have the length on them like they did against okc but cleveland is still bothersome. so look for them to take more midrange jumpers, taking it to the holes get more fouls, as i said, be more aggressive. >> kevin love supposedly available tonight for game four. how does that affect cleveland's
5:15 pm
chances to beat the warriors or do they start him again? do they sit him and bring him? what do you expect from kevin love tonight? >> i expect them to start him. but that doesn't mean you stick him in long. when you have a guy that is it struggling in the finals, you can't give them much rope. you have to take them out. so for them to say that cleveland won the previous game because kevin love didn't start i don't think it's because of that. i thought the warriors were just extremely flat from the beginning. never caught up. richard jefferson brings some energy that maybe love doesn't give them and some better defense. you but i think you've got to stick with what got you here. that lineup got them to the finals. how long they stick with it i don't know. but i would expect kevin love to start. >> marc we appreciate your time. i know you're a busy man. marc spears from the undefeated on espn. thank as lot marc. >> thank you. >> all right at most four games left in the series between the
5:16 pm
warriors and cavs. game five will bring the series back to oakland on monday. a win tonight and the warriors would have a chance to win it all on their home court. it would be nice to clinch it here. the only place to see all the games is here on abc 7. as i bring back adonal foyle, talking about kevin love. what dow do with him? you win a game without him. 'ace defenseive liability. what do you do with him? >> it's a tough call. you don't want to bench a player in the finals but what you do you say, okay we are going to take a look and see how well you perform with limited minutes. we're going to restrict that minutes and see what happens. i think that that's part of like what they're going to do they're going to take a look at him, give him some time out and see how he responds and put him on a short leash. if he doesn't play well you pull him. >> speaking of injuries, klay thompson with that thigh bruise those are tough. those charlie horses are tough. do you think that will affect him at all with his lift or no? >> i think at this point anything is it going to affect players in the game because it's like you never know the day
5:17 pm
after. sometimes an injury happens and it doesn't look as significant. then you go home and you lie down and then everything swell up. so you know i don't know what impact this is going to have. but every time somebody hits you it has the potential to be difficult. >> all right. a lot of people thought after the cavs went down 2-0 that you know the warriors were going to sweep. they're not in the finals. they breezed through the eastern conference playoffs. they were 12-2. lebron has brought the team back. what does he have to do to keep this a series? >> i think what they did the last game, they game out and played at a very high level. not only offensively but defensively they got all the 50/50 balls, rebounded they outrebounded the warriors. they limited their turnovers. they played close to the best game i think i've seen a team play against the warriors. they beat us in almost every statistical category. could they do that in the rest of the series? i don't think so. but i think they have to play at that level going into this game
5:18 pm
tonight. >> so you don't think the injuries have started to catch up with the splash brothers, between steph's knee and klay's thigh? >> you know, the one thing i learned from being a professional sportsman, the only lesson i learned is that when it comes to yourinjuries they never heal during the season. they always get healed during the off-season when you're not playing. so everybody in the nba has injuries that they're dealing with throughout the course of the year, and it's a question of managing it. it's never a question of curing or healing. it doesn't get healed during the season. so i'm sure a lot of these guys are beaten up a little bit but it's everybody at this point in the season. you probably don't hear it a lot because nobody wants to tell you that they're hurt. rfrmgts right. >> but almost every guy has an injury of some kind. i'm sure steph curry he's not feeling great because when your knees get hurt during the course of a playoff where uf play arguably one of the most amazing series we have ever seen and then coming back and you now have to play a team for the
5:19 pm
championship, it's difficult. so they're going to be injured and they're going to be hurt throughout the course of the year. >> reporter: this is where the warriors bench comes in. >> that's why we always say, you know, the strength in numbers we play at a very high level. we need to see the bench come in and do a great job. they have done that all year. so it's not a surprise. the question is could they do it tonight and give the dubs a chance to win here in game sfooi? >> speaking of which, we'll have our pricks coming up. for now, we'll go back to the abc 7 news studio with dan and ama. >> shu, adonal, thanks so much. >> while the warriors and cavs are going head to head in the nba times let's look at the matchup between the two cities. >> it's interesting actually. the capacity of oracle arena is slightly smaller than quicken loans arena. there are about 1,000 more seats in cleveland. >> oakland has more people and is growing while cleveland's population is shrinking. that's according to the latest census numbers. >> there's no comparison when it comes to home values, no surprise. a home in oakland is worth nearly six times what a similar home is worth in cleveland.
5:20 pm
>> and as you can see from the countdown clock on can your screen, we have just about ten minutes more until abc's game four coverage begins. >> san francisco is getting in on the game watching action with a big screen setup in front of city hall. >> yes. that is where we find abc 7 news reporter leslie brinkley to show us the setup. hi leslie. >> reporter: hi there. it's exciting down here. this is dub nation in san francisco, and this is what it looks like. thousands are expected here for a game watch put on bit mayor and the city's parks and rec department. >> this is actually like the first time going to a game partry request like thispart ry like this. you see the liveliness of the crowd. everybody is cheering. >> reporter: these three amigos were the first to plant their camp chairs front and center at 3:00. this is really warriors ground complete with food trucks and a family friendly rule. no alcohol allowed here at civic center plaza. officers told me they'll pour it
5:21 pm
out if you bring it. plenty of basketball-themed games to warm up for the big event. that of course is the game at 6:00. this is the first time the city has ever hosted an event like this for a warriors game. they've done it for soccer. they've done it for giants baseball. tonight it's the warriors. thousands expected here and of course city hall will be lit up as will point tower and sfo in warriors colors so it should be be quite a sight to behold. live at civic center plaza leslie brinkley. >> it's about time right? >> really. >> the question is what will the weather be be like for that outdoor watch party? >> we turn to abc 7 news meteorologist andy pa sandhya patel. >> let's look at the forecast for the watch party. we're looking at a mix of sun and high clouds. it will be breezy. 56 at 8:30. i would pack a light jacket with you. if you take ache look at what's happening at oracle arena as
5:22 pm
fans line up before they head in it will be nice there 65 there mild 62 by 8:30 when the sun is getting ready to set. accuweather sep seven day forecast warmer for saturday 90s inland, sunday warm inland still but not as warm. mild at the coast and then a much cooler pattern next week. but tomorrow temperatures are rebounding like our warriors will tonight, we believe right? >> we sermcertainly do. >> thanks so much. for the first time ever, all 23 warriors basketball camp summer sessions sold out before the first one even started. >> the warriors sent us some video from camp in oakley. you're looking at it here. $400 four-day camp includes workouts drills and individual coaching and some warriors players also help out including steph curry and draymond green. >> about 4,000 kids will take nart the camps this summer. i did six straight jeers of basketball camp. a great experience. i know the kids will have finance. but will the warriors win
5:23 pm
tonight? that's the big question. >> shu and adonal will be back with predictions for tonight's game in just a moment. >> stay with us as the countdown to game four continues. just about seven minutes until

5:25 pm
all right our countdown clock shows exclusive abc coverage of game four between the warriors and cavs now about five minutes away as we take a live look at quicken loans arena in cleveland. all righter, adonal, time for our predictions. we both picked cleveland in game three and the haters on twitter just blew up. so we were right. why don't i -- >> i didn't want to be right. >> why don't i start with game four. we're supposed to in the nba finals win at home. i think cleveland refound their confidence after being blown out in the first two games so i say cleveland will take this game at home again and this series will
5:26 pm
come back tied at 2-2 and we'll be down to a three-game series. i'm pulling for the warriors to win, but i have a feeling cleveland is going to take it in cleveland. what about you? >> i said this is going to go down to the wire like somewhere in the fourth quarter steph is going to have an opportunity to win the game at the buzzer. and the warriors is going to win. take that to the bank! >> reporter: that would be great because they come back here and could clinch it monday. >> there you go. >> wouldn't you rather see them win it here at oracle? >> yeah! absolutely. >> reporter: we were very lonely last year in cleveland when this happened. that will do it. of course we'll be back for "after the game" adonal and i will enjoy the watch party with 18000 to 19,000 fans. and i hope you enjoy the game exclusively here on abc 7. let's go back to the newsroom. dan and ama should be a great game and we'll be see how it plays out. >> going to be fun. going to be really a blast where you are. adobl, shu, thank you so much. >> abc's coverage of game four gets under way next right here
