this comes as the fbi investigates reports that mateen had been a regular at the nightclub and had used a gay dating app or more than one. >> and a gofundme campaign for the victims has now topped more than $3 million. >> we have team coverage of the shootings in orlando tonight. >> let's begin with abc 7 news reporter katie march zul low who is live for us there tonight. katie? rnchtsz dan, ama, two best friends who were at pulse that night are sharing their story from the hospital here where you can see the memorial continues to grow and people continue to visit. one of the men was shot multiple times, the details of their experience so unbelievable it's almost hard to understand exactly what they went through. angel kol loan and jason convict zoelz were saying good-bye and wrapping up what had been a great night out. thet didn't know terror was about to unfold. >> out of nowhere we just hear a big shotgun. >> reporter: angel was shot three times in the leg and fell to the ground.

>> i couldn't walk out on him. i all i could do was lay down there while everyone was running on top of me. >> reporter: his best friend running for his life had no idea. >> i just thought angel was behind me the whole time. i just -- i was too scared to look back rfrnl. >> reporter: he had every reason to be terrified. omar mateen wasn't finished with his victims. angel lying there realized mateen was shooting the bodies on the ground. >> i look over and he shoots the girl next to me. i'm just there laying down thinking, i'm next. i'm dead. >> reporter: angel says mateen did shoot him two more times, missing his head hitting him in the hand and hip. a police officer ultimately dragged him out of the club to an blanls. angel was one of 44 victims taken to orlando regional medical center that night. >> we quickly got about five patients and that was a lot for us. and we thought maybe that was going to be it. and then they started lining up in the hallway. >> reporter: the trawl ma surgeon described it as surreal but only those who were there know the horror firsthand. >> if you guys saw what we saw

inside that club, your life would change forever and i know mine has. >> reporter:s you heard ama and dan reports that the shooter had been a frequent patron at pulse, but jason gonzalez says he never saw him there. now after the fact he does not recognize his picture. live in orlando, katie marzulo, abc 7 news. well, the debate on limiting access to guns took center stage in sacramento today. six bills passed a hurdle on their way to becoming laws. >> they're among 11 bills aimed at placing greater restrictions on gun owners and buyers in california. supporters believe shootings prove california's current laws aren't working. but backers of the second amendment want lawmakers to take a different approach. >> the focus on the gun is misplaced focus. we should be focusing on the perpetrator, the criminal who is willing to commit this kind of an act. >> you'll get a chance to vote on a gun control ballot in

november. the oakland a's are having their second annual pride night this evening, a previously planned event but of course following the orlando event, the team decided to make some changes. >> lyanne melendez is live from the oakland coliseum with more on the event this evening. >> reporter: this is one of those ceremonies well planned that will no doubt touch so many hearts, dan. now, today all around the bay area showed their own unique way of honoring the victims in orlando. the pregame ceremony was meant to be a celebration of the local lgbtq community. but now the oakland a's pride night instead will be a time to honor the orlando victims. >> now it's all of us joining together in support of this community. >> reporter: there will be no first pitch. instead, a ball will be placed ceremoniously on the mound. part of the proceeds from today's game will be donated to three bay area charities, aids project of the east bay, our

space and rainbow community center. in san francisco's cast tree district, people continue to show their solidarity with orlando by showing up at this memorial. the puerto rican flag is on display reminding everyone that so many of the victims were originally from that caribbean island. >> this is how people are expressing their love and their compassion for the people in orlando. they don't have no another way of doing it. >> reporter: for jessica yule, donating blood today was a way to respond to a crisis which can happen anywhere and anytime. >> if there's something more i could do, i would want to do that. i think now is a good -- it's important to take action and not just talk about things. >> reporter: since 9/11, every time there is a tragedy, more people tend to donate. >> just remember that it's the blood that's available that helps victims. >> reporter: coincidentally, june 14th is world blood donor day. well, did you know that your

blood type could determine which sort of donation is best for you to make whether that's a conventional whole blood donation or maybe a plate pleat donation? we have a quick video on seven things to know about donating blood on our abc 7 news facebook page. check that out when you have time. today a former santa clara county jail inmate accused correctional deputies of threatening him and beating him while he was in custody. julian vasquez says the attack happened in september of last year. a month after another inmate at the main jail was beaten to death. vasquez spoke to reporters at his attorney's office today saying he was intimidated by jail guard that's attacked without reason or cause. >> then the paramedics came and the paramedics, i just remember the paramedics sayingor, we've got to take him to the hospital. my head wouldn't stop bleeding. >> vasquez is now suing county for damages. the county sheriff's office hasn't returned our call forz comment. coming you on abc 7 news at 6,

melanie woodrow reports on a proposal to move a key investigator of inmate deaths out from under control of the sheriff. meantime, a sex scandal involving oakland police widened today to include other agencies in the east bay including richmond police. this follows an 18-year-old woman saying she had sex with more than 25 officers from several agencies some when she was under age. that woman is the daughter of an oakland pleiss dispatcher. three oakland officers remain on leave because of the scandal. two others resigned from the force altogether. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony will have more in a live report for you coming up at 6:00. new details and fallout following the sexual assault sentence handed to former stanford swimmer brock turner. >> the turner case has led prosecutors in santa clara county to file ail motion to disqualify the judge from an upcoming sexual assault trial. vic lee broke that story first on abc 7 news and is live in palo alto with the late details.

vic in. >> reporter: well, abc 7 news has learned that judge aaron persky was taken off that sexual assault case this morning when the santa clara county district attorney took a rare step filing a motion to remove the judge from that case. they said -- and this is a statement from the d.a.'s office -- we lack confidence that judge persky can fairly participate in this upcoming hearing in which a male nurse sexually assaulted an anest asized female parent. on another front today, a judge in the brock turner case expressed his outrage by writing the judge a letter. i was a juror in the brock turner trial. the first words in his letter to judge aaron persky, a letter he also sent to the "palo alto weekly." he wrote, i was absolutely shocked and appalled at the judge's leniency. a six month sentence he gave former stanford swimmer brock turner for a sexual assault

conviction. report a reporter spoke with the juror after she received the letter. >> you felt kp compelled to speak out about this. and wanted to do so in a way that would send awe strong message to the judge. >> reporter: the juror with who wants to remain anonymous recently became a citizen. >> his first time serving on a jury, disappointed with the process and the outcome. >> reporter: the juror wrote, the sentence made a mockery of the whole trial. the punishment does not fit the crime and justice has not been served. his parting words, shame on you. judge persky has yet to respond to the outrage which has taken social media by storm. he's up for reelection but is unopposed to his name did not appear on last week' balance lost. he advances to the election in november. buff now a group called girl cult is gathering signatures to recall the judge at the ballot box. organizer shelby jones. >> it was so cut and dried it

seems, that whole case. and the outcome was insulting. >> reporter: 500 people have already rsvp'd for the launch event tomorrow at the star line social club in oakland. vic lee, abc 7 news. today san jose city officials agreed to spend more than $100 million over the next decade to clean up polluted city creeks and fix miles of leaky underground pipes. the agreement settles a major lawsuit from bay area environmental groups that sued the city. bay keeper claimed san jose was violated the federal clean water act by not doing enough to clean up pollution from its water ways. mayor sam liccardo says the city needs to find a way to cover the costs which means possibly more taxes and fees. just ahead, safe straights. a simple tool helped find this stolen ambulance. can it now reduce san francisco traffic deaths to zero? while the were yarz are

taxpayers money. identify fraud and most importantly loureduce collision. san francisco has almost 8,000 vehicles in the city-owned fleet. now the vast majority will be equipped with black boxes, gps devices. >> it really sends a consciousness to these drivers to say, hey, by the way, we will know what you're doing. we will know where you're going. we will know how fast you're going. >> reporter: supervisor norman yee the main sponsor of the measure says the city spends nearly $77 million a year in settlements for traffic claims. every year approximately 30 people die on the streets of san francisco and another 200 are injured. >> crashes are not accidents. they are predictable and preventable and we know that we have tools in the tool box to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place. >> reporter: the blax bck boxese already in hubs of city vehicles, evening, helping to

quickly track the fire department ambulance that was stolen and crashed on treasure island last week. city administrator naomi kelly is in charge of the fleet. >> the data will also help us in, how do we need to improve our training? what neighborhoods do we see more accidents happening in? is there something with the design of the streets? is it something with we've noticed the design of a car? >> reporter: law enforcement vehicles will be exempt. in san francisco, abc 7 news. a 16-year-old boy charged with the sexual assault and murder of an 8-year-old santa cruz girl will be tried as an adult. adrian gonzalez needed not guilty in the killing of mady middleton at the tannery arts center housing complex last july. he was 15 years old at the time. the trial will not begin until february of next year. if convicted, he could face life in prison. tomorrow the fbi is expected to announce a major reward for the arrest of a serial killer. he's responsible for at least a

dozen murders and 45 rapes during the '70s and '80s. here is a sketch of this killer nicknamed the ormgal night stalker. his crimes stretched throughout the state from the jaemt area all the way to southern california. he targeted homes in contra costa county as well. tomorrow the fbi is expected to release new sketches of the suspect. the founder of one of san francisco's most iconic coffee shops has died. giovanni giota opened the kcafe in north beach in 1956. he's credited with having the sfifrt espresso coffee house in san francisco. over the decades the place has stayed a local hangout and music venue. >> it would become a hangout for everyone. it was always as my dad would say welcoming to everyone. >> the cafe attracted director frances ford cope a la who wrote

part of the godfather there. the funeral will be tomorrow. he was 96 years old. well, while the warriors are on the road in cleveland, their proposed arena is inching forward. today supervisors aprofed the final passage of nearly $6 million for design and transportation projects, connected to the arena. the 18,000 seat venue is slated to open in time for the 2019-2020 season. opponents of the arena, however, will be in court this friday to challenge the environmental impact reporten the project. that could ultimately delay construction ever the arena. right now the golden state war yrz are on their way to cleveland for game six of the nba finals on thursday. the team boarded their chartered flight at oakland airport this afternoon. this is individuvideo sent out team. the warriors will land at cleveland 7:00 our time. and if you want to see game six at oracle arena and the watch party, you're probably out of luck. >> the $20 ticket went on sale

clouds. here are your temperatures. from our san jose camera, you're also seeing a mix of sun and high clouds, upper 70s in santa rosa. in the low 70s concord, livermore down to xw66 degrees. mt. tam cam showing you the filtered sunshine, below normal temperatures tomorrow, a chance of showers on thursday and it's heating up sunday through tuesday. tomorrow morning when you get going, it is going to be cool. especially in our north bay valleys where temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 40s. most other areas 50s. it will start out pretty clear other than the high clouds which will be with you us for the afternoon hours. temperatures a lot like today but inland areas you'll dromm a few more degrees. upper 50s to the low 70s, 61 in san francisco, 66 in san rafael, oakland 66, 68 in livermore. when you thought it was all over, no, we're bringing in the storm impact scale.

it's not quite over yet ux know we've been using it all winter and during the spring to talk about the storms rank them from 1 to 5 to help you prepare. 1 is a light storm, 5 a severe wurn. thursday's similar is a 1, scattered showers expected, a light system. less than a quarter of an inch for most areas. here is a look at your hour by hour time line. clouds at midnight on thursday, we go into the early morning thursday 5:00 a.m. time period, there will be a few showers developing in the north bay. 7:00 a.m. some light to moderate showers, not ohm in the north by but along the coast as well. 9:00 a.m. the foej us is primarily in the north bay. we go into 10:00 a.m., they're scattered and moving to the south. for of the afternoon hours we'll keep in a few more showers and then things will wind down. as far as rainfall totals, i'll be honest with you, some areas will get nothing like the south bay. it looks like there's going to be no rain there. but up to a quarter of an inch in santa rosa. saturday things are really going to change up. it warms up 80s inland 60s coast, sunday for father's day it's going to get hot inland.
