>> live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this father's day sunday, june 19th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, carolyn. good morning to you. sun was up at 5:38 and nothing but clear sky. here's live doppler 7hd. we will see light winds today. a quick warmup. a big ridge of high pressure overtaking much of the western third of the nation. that's why the clouds going up and over the ridge. and just above the surface we will have an offshore flow. here's sfo. the peninsula nice and clear, looking at upper 50s mountain view and oakland. 60 san jose.

61 in san francisco. and 50 at the coast. here's our sutro tower camera. look at that. yeah, not only sunny skies at our beaches, but some 60s and even 70s. so a look at 50 right now. santa rosa, napa, as well as fairfield. cooler morning out there for most. 56 concord. 55 livermore. and from emeryville right now you see it's sunny. we will see tons of sun with highs near 90 inland. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. we have developing news out of the east bay this morning. fire crews are keeping an eye out for hotspots after a three-alarm fire damaged three buildings in oakland. it started 7:15 last night on walnut street. that's near foothill boulevard. there was a fire in a nearby warehouse that spread quickly to buildings on foothill. a church and a realty office were burned. investigators are working to figure out how that fire started.

in contra costa county a two-alarm fire has destroyed a single-story home. this video is from contra costa fire. it happened around 10:00 last night on bay point on beach drive. no one was hurt, but the family dog has minor burns on his paws. the home is a total loss with $135,000 in damage. downed powerlines may have started the blaze, but the cause is still under investigation. the impact of that devastating five-alarm fire in san francisco will be felt for some time. flames spread through several buildings. while there are no serious injuries, more than three dozen people cannot return home. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian told us it took four hours to contain the fire. >> reporter: thick smoke hung over bernal heights for hours. as fire ripped through six buildings at mission and 29th streets. early indications are the fire started near the rear of cole's

hardware store. >> we do have products with chemicals, and we don't really know how it started. but unfortunately that might have helped spread it across the whole building. >> this was an aggressive fire. firefighters had a hard time with it. at one point firefighters had to get out of the building and fight it from the outside. >> within the hardware build we may be dealing with flammables. i believe the prevailing winds come outs of the west, flowing west to east, when the windows in the rear of the building broke, it added wind and oxygen to the fire that caused it to increase in intensity. >> the intense flames created so much smoke that a shelter in place area was issued for everyone within five blocks of the area. the owner of this restaurant watched the chaos around him. >> my biggest concern is the neighborhood and the people who live in the building, number one, and the safety of everybody around. >> so he opened up his kitchen

to firefighters and volunteers. because doing something made accepting this a little easier. down the street a man started sandbagging a neighbor's business. in this neighborhood every little bit helps. in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. and thankfully no one was seriously hurt. but what's next for those who lost their homes? abc7 news reporter sergio quintana spoke to some who are staying at a temporary shelter. >> reporter: as the fire raged in the distance, residents trickled into the park lot. kids, adults, seniors. all without a home and some in shock. >> what was it like leaving home? >> stressful, scary. >> i woke up to a fire alarm, and i thought maybe somebody was playing with it so i went out

to see what was going on and the fire department said get out! you can't go back in! >> and to see how much they can preserve as much of their life as possible against the mayor said he will work on helping them transition. >> housing is a huge crisis, an issue in how fires destroy. that's really my concern. >> the residents will have a temporary shelter for several nights. they will get timely updates whether they can retrieve their belongings, if any survive the fire. this is also the first fire since the new good samaritan ordinance. >> we need folks to step up and provide an affordable place. under the new law landlord can troy a home with the same rent control price residents lost in a fire for two years and then rent controls would be lifted for that landlord. >> in san francisco, abc7 news. we want to thank all of the viewers who sent in pictures and videos of the mission district fire. when you see news where you live, take a photo or video and share it with us, using the #abc7 news.

-- or of abc7now. we might show it on air or at abc7news.com. abc7 news was on mission street and firefighters delivered happy news to two men. they thought their two cats died in the fire and spent several hours look be for them. crews fouled the cats in a closed-off room shortly after 8:00 last night and reunited the pets with their owners. >> this was almost the worst day ever and it's now the best day ever. i'm going to take them to the vet to get them checked out. >> if you are looking for your pets, you can call san francisco animal control. you see the anybody on your screen. firefighters are making progress on several wildfires burning across the state. crews now have the 7800 sherpa fire 45% contained near santa barbara. they say strong winds that usually sweep down mountains in the area did not it materialize last night.

no homes have burned, but hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate. and in amador county a 210-acre wildfire is 85% contained. it destroyed three structures. crews expect full containment by this afternoon. and cal fire tweeted out these pictures of a nearly 240-acre wildfire burning in san bernardino county. the king fire is 8930% contained. it has damaged four structures. danville police arrested a man they believe broke into a school last night. a silent alarm alerted officers to the break-in just after 6:00 last night. officers say the man broke into the administration building. they found some vandalism. it's unclear if anything was stolen. turmoil in the oakland police department. the force had its third chief in nine days while a sex scandal swirls. abc7 news reporter leslie

brinkley has the story. >> it is embarrassing. >> reporter: city leaders are shaking their heads in disbelief over a growing sex scandal in the oakland police department. at least 14 officers may have had an inappropriate more are implicated. and another scandal involving the homicide sergeant for allowing his mistress to help write police reports. a clearly disgusted oakland mayor put a fourth person, city administrator, in charge for now. >> i'm here to run a police department, not a frat house. >> this city council member is ready to have federal regulators running opd. >> too many years with that negative behavior and now i'm supposed to accept it, pay your salary and continue to do that and violate my children and families? absolutely not. >> young people volunteering

scandals are a breach of trust. >> young people volunteering said the unfolding scandals are a breach of trust. >> i'm really sad about it. >> this outreach coordinator for sex trafficking victims is appalled. >> even if they approached them, then they may get accused of messing around. it's kind of weird right now. the position that the cops are in dealing with the prostitutes. >> not only will oakland have to recruit a new chief, but they will have to look long and hard at how they are recruiting police officers. i'm leslie brinkley, abc7 news. >> in pleasanton you can see where a car chase ended after a -- it stretched through several east bay communities yesterday. they said it hit several cars in fremont. it all started when police said a man hit several other cars in fremont. officers claim he tried to ram one of their vehicles before driving the wrong way along a freeway while trying to escape. new this morning the dali llama will visit sacramento for the first time for a special address to the state legislature.

[bells tolling] >> today marks one week since 49 lives were lost in the orlando nightclub shooting. the st. james cathedral church in downtown orlando remembered those victims. the bells rang 49 times at 2:02 this morning. that is the time the shooting began. each chime representing and honoring the people killed. family, friends, even total strangers said their final good -byes to some of the 49 people

murdered during last week's nightclub massacre. you are looking now at mourners packing a church to remember 21-year-old corey connell. he became a firefighter. and yesterday local first responders honored him and his family in a special way. >> corey is the kind. guy you want to work side by side with. the >> a traffic accident marred one funeral. deputies had hurt during a procession. the driver who hit the deputies' motorcycles appeared to be inpatient. san jose earthquakes played in the orlando last night. >> ladies and gentlemen, please

join us for a moment of silence for the 49 victims who lost their lives and 53 injured during last weekend's tragic event. >> players for the quake and orlando united stopped playing when the game reached the had 49th minute. fans also paused in silence for one minute. >> abc7 news was there at 16th and market streets when an artist, named deb, started creating a painting that will be auctioned off. she's friends with the owners of the lookout bar. >> i just wanted to do something to help. i was sickened and upset. i just felt ill. the lookout bar has already been really supportive to this horrible event. they were the first people i thought of that i asked if i could do this. >> deb is hoping to finish her

painting today. if you stop by the lookout bar, you can bid on her work. it is down to the wire for the warriors. as you know, they take on the cavaliers tonight in game seven of the nba finals. during yesterday's shootaround, the dubs seemed loose and prepared for what's to come tonight. golden state is hoping its historic season comes full circle by winning their second straight nba title. all-star klay thompson said the final practice was a chance for him to look back at how the team worked so hard to get to where they are today. >> i remember my rookie year i was reflecting on how we got 23 wins and the playoffs seemed like a distant reality. now to be a game away from the nba championship, i was just out there appreciating how hard it was to get here. >> if you are going to game seven at oracle arena, be sure to get there early. the a's are also playing at home today. their game starts at 1:05 this afternoon.

it was so painful, but i'm ready for the warriors to turn things around tonight >> yeah, look at you. what a trooper. surrounded by all those cavs fans. tonight is going to be the night. good morning, everyone. we are looking at a beautiful start to the day, the last day of spring. summer solstice is tomorrow. live doppler 7hd looking at the clear sky. we will have light winds out there. when we do have that sunshine, it is going to heat up quickly. we will be looking at temperatures today, well, well above average. a big dome of high pressure. the clouds go up and over that. and that is allowing for not only the heat-up, but the ridge, it will stick around throughout most of the week, allowing for hot temperatures inland, cool at the coast. a beautiful shot here. all the boats in the east bay. it's 58 oakland. mountain view a little warmer this morning. elsewhere most of you are cooler with the lower dewpoints, the dryer air mass. and from mt. tam, yes, in the north bay you dropped off into

the upper 40s earlier. 50s also in fairfield. 56 in concord. livermore, good morning to you. 55 degrees. santa rosa at 50. but, boy, another 30 degrees of warming today. it's going to be a really warm father's day for you out there. but to start out feels good here. warmer in palo alto and san jose. all week long flirting with 90 or so by tomorrow. then we will be looking at temperatures leveling off but still above average. much warmer for father's day today and warm to hot all week long. looks like that forecast is going to verify for our inland communities to stay pretty warm. in fact, by wednesday and thursday, some of the hottest days we will have seen in quite some time. here's the red, indicator of the very warm air mass for tomorrow, summer. but still we stay nice in san francisco. sausalito is 75 degrees. then by tuesday we are in the

upper 90s here. still pleasant along the coast. look at hayward, 84. it will be warm around the bay with 86 in petaluma. and then by wednesday not doing much with the heat. we are holding on to it inland. upper 80s in san jose. 80 redwood city. we will look for today to be on the warm side, around santa cruz at 82. elsewhere pleasant from bodega bee to ocean beach. mid-60s. and monterey 72 degrees. headed to the beach today, tomorrow, the next several days, very mild. looking at some warm weather in the south bay. average high about 80 today. and much of the warmest weather will come, say, wednesday. thursday for our inland communities. as we check out the rest of the bay area, 80s san mateo, 83 palo alto, 82 in oakland. 83 vallejo and 89 morgan hill. and over at oracle, upper 70s. it should cool off somewhat by 5:00. but it's going to be a beautiful

>> this afternoon the first family will leave yosemite valley, head back to washington, d.c. yesterday president obama renewed his call to fight that climate change during a visit to yosemite national park. the president and first lady met with a group of fourth graders there. this year marks the 100th anniversary of the national park system. president obama is not only urging americans to visit the parks, but to preserve these nats treasures, as well. >> the biggest challenge we will face is protecting this place and places like it from climate change. make no mistake, climate change is no longer just a threat, it's a reality. >> president obama also touted his administration's commitment to america's national parks. that includes protecting more than 265 million acres of public land and waterways. much more ahead on the abc the 7 sunday morning news. insults fly between donald trump and elizabeth warren on the campaign trail. and a startling encounter between a mother and a mountain lion when she finds her five-year-old son in

>> welcome back. happy father's day. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, carolyn. good morning. it's the last day of spring. it's beautiful out right now. we start out from emeryville where we have very sunny skies and temperatures today in just a few locations will be in the 70s. say berkeley, hercules, richmond, elsewhere probably well into the 80s. 61 in san francisco. 60 san jose. 57 morgan hill. 48 half moon bay. and here from the hills camera atop vollmer peak, this is where numbers will top out about 90 degrees today. 55 in livermore. 56 in concord with no fog, a light sea breeze and a slight offshore flow above the surface. we will see all of those warm numbers come into play. still comfortable at the coastline. in fact for the next several days the beach is the place to go. i'll have your forecast coming

up. >> thank you, lisa. tonight a sunset candlelight vigil will be held in orlando to remember the 49 people killed at pulse nights club one week ago today. some of the victims were laid to rest yesterday. lindsay has the latest. >> orlando, united in love. hundreds lining the streets outside the funeral of shooting victim. her mother spoke to abc news hours after the massacre. >> the last thing i told him was i loved him. >> the crowd facing down and drowning out a handful of anti-lgbt protesters. >> hate came to orlando and orlando countered with love. >> even the mayor brought to tears. she made him an honorary firefighter, a job he always dreamed of. new details about the killer's past. >> records show in 2007 omar

mateen was booted from a training session to become a prison guard. that was after he asked another recruit, if i were to bring a gun to school, would you tell anybody? from early on he displayed disturbing behavior. grade school and middle school records show he was disciplined 31 times for disrespectful behavior and insubordination. and new details about this gun shop own who are said he inquired about high end body armor and bulk ammo. the fbi was notified but couldn't do a meaningful follow-up since the store didn't have a name or any other information on the teen. abc news, orlando. ♪ a group of children raised money yesterday in berkeley for the victims in last week's

shooting. as you just heard, they played their violins and they made signs and posters honoring the victims. abc7 news was at pittsburgh city hall yesterday as police showed off some of the weapons and ammunition turned in by citizens in their gun buyback program. people could stun in the guns anonymously. contra costa county gave out target gift cards as payment. people got between 50 to $350, depending on the type of gun. now to the race to the white house. the presumptive republican nominee discussed gun laws on the campaign trail yesterday. he made stops in arizona. he said things may have been different if more people in the nightclub had been armed. >> if you had bullets going in the opposite direction, right at this animal who did this, you would have had a very, very

the clintons say they are over the moon with the new family addition. some scary moments for a family in colorado. a mountain lion attacked a five-year-old boy friday night. the boy's mother was physical able to remove the lion's paws from her son's face. she had minor injuries on her legs and head. the boy had scratches. wildlife officials say mountain lion sightings are becoming more common because of the human population intruding on their territory. still ahead, we go behind the scenes at emeryville's pixar to view the making of "dory the." and a look at a new character. sunny skies, and lisa said some places here will go into the 90s

the warriors and the cavs, tip off at oracle arena at 5:00 p.m. not only is the series even at 3-3, both teams have scored a total of 610 points in the first six games. here's rick quan. he has a preview of what's arguably the biggest game seven in nba history. good morning. warriors star steph curry said he will need to play his best game of the year, if not his career, for golden state to win their second straight nba championship. with lebron james on fire, the warriors also need andre iguodala on defense. he has been getting constant treatment for his bad back, and is expected to play tonight. the odds are in golden state favor. no team has come back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals. the warriors will be at home where they have lost only four times the entire season. >> of course, they will feel pressure, of course, there will be anxiety.

but how lucky are we to feel that pressure? you can play on a lottery team your whole career and make a bunch of money and watch playoffs every year. that sounds great. >> excited about it. i understand we've had two sub-par games and need to make a couple of adjustments. but we are capable of doing that. a resilient basketball team that is ready for this opportunity. >> former giant tim lincecum made his return to the majors on saturday. this time pitching against the a's in an angels uniform. throwing out the first pitch at the coliseum. members of the western conference champion, san jose sharks. lincicum looked good giving up one run on four hits over six innings. he struck out a pair. and just called up from the minors, oakland's andrew triggs threw three innings.

the angels broke it open with five in the sixth with the bases loaded traut bloops one to right. billy burns can't make the catch and two runs score. lincecum would get the victory, shane robinson helps him out by robbing jed lowry with a shoestring catch. 7-1, the final. how did timmy feel about his first major league start in almost a year? >> it feels like riding a bike again. you get into the rhythm of the game, and just read them and work from there. like i said, the anxiety went away after the first inning and kind of settled in. >> michael: wearing throwback unis, the giants stay hot at tampa bay. matt duffy ties it up in the second with the solo shot off matt mohr. san francisco pitcher albert suarez gave up three home runs but came with the bases empty. the no doubter makes it 3-1 reyes in the fourth. the giants again refuse to lose.

a huge dome of high pressure. you think it's hot here. the santa ana winds getting going in southern california. temperatures will be over 100 degrees in many spots of the southern part of the state. we have some cool areas. here's a live look outside. right by the water. you will see temperatures warmer than yesterday, but not as hot as, of course, they could be inland. we will look for numbers right now very comfortable. 58 morgan hill and mountain view, as well as oakland. 630 san jose. 61 san francisco. half moon bay checking in at 50 degrees. and from our east bay hills camera, very warm day but it's just going to get hotter as we go through the next several days. temperatures ranging from about 50 santa rosa, napa, and fairfield with 55 in livermore. 56 concord. novato, good morning to you. 54 degrees. and san jose it will be much warmer today. in fact, some areas, anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. i think the peninsula will be about 5 degrees warmer, but

afternoon highs just about 81 degrees in san jose and you will be in the upper 80s today. clear skies. much warmer for father's day today. and warm to hot inland. in fact, it looks now like wednesday and thursday will be the hottest day inland. but from point reyes to pacifica and stinson beach, high temperatures in the low 70s today. slightly cooler tomorrow and tuesday with sunny skies. and we will be around 80 for the next few days in santa cruz t should be very nice at our beaches. even though today the flow is slightly offshore. and at our coastline we will have the breeze. at the san mateo county fair it should be beautiful with numbers in the mid-to upper 70s throughout the afternoon. so it's going to be warm no matter how you look at it in the south bay today. 90 los gatos, 830 santa cruz, upper 80s morgan hill. and 87 in cupertino. on the peninsula, even though it's are a degrees warmer you
