is a big setback to the many groups working in oakland to help victims of sex trafficking. >> leslie brinkley is live with more on the real life impact. leslie? >> reporter: if you can imagine, it's really difficult for those who work with exploited sex trafficking victims. who do you tell them to trust if they can't trust the police? we caught up today with alameda county district attorney nancy o'malley. >> it really does rock the trust and confidence that a victim would have in the system and we're working very hard to make sure that we isolate those that have engaged in the sad behavior and for those -- and keep kids and other people safe. >> reporter: alameda county d.a. spoke out for the first time since last week when the sex scandal at opd blew up over allegations of contact with a teen prostitute. the charges they're looking at -- >> statutory rape. she was a minor. engaging in commercial sex with and paying for it.

one is color of authority. >> reporter: and the ongoing investigation is negatively outreach to sex trafficking victims to oakland and beyond. with the sex scandal, can victims on the street trust the police? >> no. ain't no way we can trust the police. that means i can't come to you in confidence and know that i'm safe. >> we can't get a -- they're going to exploit and be inappropriate with us. it's almost like sitting in that danger, that we're already in. the safest place to be. >> has the whole scandal with the oakland police department been undermined your efforts to help the victims of sex trafficking? >> definitely. we have to be really careful when we sit there and say, if you need help, law enforcement will help you. >> now advocacy groups are redoubling their efforts to reach out to teens in oakland and around the bay area. i'm leslie brinkley. >> we're pushing out the latest

>> they could smell the odor of alcohol and marijuana on the bus. so the kids all came off the bus. the bus driver was arrested and the kids then were turned over to their parents. >> police say the 33 teenagers were all between the ages of 15 and 17. officers discovered 30 different containers of hard liquor. they also claim the driver had illegal drugs and a weapon. he will likely face child endangerment charges. early this morning, another bus of underage drinkers at a private home. it started with a report of a loud party. the 22-year-old sister of the host answered the door and admitted that she knew teenagers were drinking alcohol. she was given a citation for violating social and accountability ordinance. that's a $750 fine. a small earthquake rattled the town of cob in lake county. it measured the quake at 3.4 in magnitude.

no injury or damage has been reported. you may remember cobb from last september when many homes were destroyed by the valley fire. there's sort of a -- over san francisco. it wasn't the typical summer fog. it was smog. our camera showed it hanging over the highest buildings in the city there and the view from the mt. tan cam wasn't any clearer. what's going on? let's get to meteorologist drew tuma with the latest. drew? >> you can blame high pressure. not only warming us up but putting a lid on our atmosphere. it trapped all the pollutants near the surface. that's why we had the smog this afternoon. look at the highs this afternoon. 99 in concord. 97 in fairfield. it is warm. san jose up to 90 degrees. oakland 82. 72 san francisco. santa rosa at 94 degrees for a high so far. still very warm inland and then 90s. lots of 70s around the bay. warm at 81. 86 novato. san francisco at 65 degrees. future tracker, the next couple of hours, by 9:00, we're still

rather warm inland. start to drop into the 50s along the coast. you do notice some coastal clouds will be developing. but once again tomorrow, it is warm and even hotter for the weekend. we'll have the numbers after the forecast coming up. drew, thanks very much. a memorial service for a fallen san jose police officer was both somber and up lifting at the same time. the american flag was raised as officers paid final respects to officer michael katherman. he expressed his love for his wife. supportive from day one. she had my back. she told me anything you need from me, i'm willing to do. >> abc 7 news reporter david louie has more on a man who lived a full life in his 34 years. he just loved being a police officer and particularly loved riding that motorcycle on the job. >> it is the peril that every officer faces, will he or she

return home at the end of a shift? then the bond that prompts this display of mourning. even if they didn't know officer michael katherman. sap center was filled with his academy classmates from 2005 who dubbed him the cat-man. there were friends along with his wife april and josh and jason, his two sons. eddie garcia, police chief, put in perspective the life of an officer who was dedicated to serving the community and supporting his family. >> mike, at 5'8"5'9", could actually dunk. he could do great impersonations. i understand that he did a great chris farley and a kermit the frog but i hear that his best was a retired sergeant kang lee. >> his father tom expressed how much his son loved putting on the police uniform because it allowed him to help others. >> mike was a passionate person. his passion for god, his passion

the mass shooting in orlando has san francisco city leaders considering action against gun makers. carolyn tyler is live from city hall to explain what's happening tonight. >> reporter: dan, people may be surprised to learn that san francisco's city pension fund has stock in gun companies. one supervisor says it's well beyond time to divest. outside san francisco city hall, a rainbow flag has been lowered in honor of the orlando shooting victims. inside, the supervisor introduced a proposal to hit the firearms companies where it hurts, in the wallet. >> we're preempted by federal and state law on this issue. we do what we can. >> farrell wants the board that handles the city employees pension fund to dump its investment in gun and ammo manufacturers. orbit tal atk, vista outdoors and sterm ruger and company.

it would be a symbolic gesture. the city's stake in the firearms industry is only $1 million in a $20 billion portfolio. retirement board member victor makris supports the move and says there's no financial risk. >> at the end of the day, we don't want to benefit from gun manufacturers. we don't need that profit. we could make money in other places in an honorable way. >> after the sandy hook shooting in 2012, no action was taken. supervisor farrell hopes attitudes have changed. >> it's important that we stand up and send a message. >> the supervisors will vote on his resolution next week. the retirement board next month. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. there appears to be movement by republicans on a compromised gun control measure before congress. the bill by republican senator susan collins would allow the

attorney general to block the sale of guns to people on the no fly list. the bill still faces an uphill battle. four gun control measures were defeated in congress yesterday and it infuriated president obama. in a tweet he wrote, gun violence requires more than moments of silence. >> it requires action. a giants pitcher is among a host of athletes who have allegedly been swindled out of $30 million by their investment advisers. according to federal investigators, jake peavy is one of those taken advantage of by an adviser who put money into a struggling online ticket business rather than a low-risk investment strategy instead. ash -- he's not been criminally charged. according to the s.e.c., he appealed athlete's christian faith. the era of atomic energy in california is coming to an end. they will close the diablo nuclear power plabt along the

central california coast by the year 2025. the utility reached an agreement with environmental groups to shut down the plant which became a target of controversy in the anti-nuclear power movement. located north of santa maria, it generates 9% of the state's energy. pg and e plans to use solar and green energy to replace it. tesla is acquiring energy company solar city in a stock deal worth $2.8 billion. tesla's elon musk is the chairman of both companies. the move by musk is seen as a way to consolidate his holdings and combine his green energy products. shares of solar city surged 24% in after-hours trading on this news. tesla shares are down nearly 7%. the rise of prescription drug prices is rampant, right? >> really is. >> what can you do? >> 7 on your side michael finney is here with tips and advice. >> these complaints are flooding into my office.

32 million people have gotten rate hikes according to a consumer reports survey. each long time generic drugs are seeing huge price increases. >> this woman suffers from rheumatoid arthritis. she's taken a generic drug available for almost two decades. >> i credit that drug with keeping from becoming crippled. which i'm sure i would be now. >> two years ago a three-month supply cost $32. last year it skyrocketed to $500 out of pocket. so she stopped taking the medication. >> i stopped the drug hoping that i wouldn't have a flare-up of my arthritis. what happened was that i was in such a bad state, it took a long time to get it back under control. >> consumer reports released an investigation of high drug prices and caesar lien's experience is not isolated.

as you look at antioch for the week ahead, we're staying in the 90s at least through friday and then temperatures, they just take off. over the weekend, we're going to 100 on saturday. 101 for both sunday and monday. then the numbers continue to climb. you see tuesday, 104 degrees. so the accuweather seven-day forecast shows you tomorrow, patchy morning fog on the coast. a little bit of relief inland on thursday. we drop to 90. that's relatively speaking. we're mainly sunny on friday and then temperatures for the other side of the weekend in the triple digits inland. even into the bay. we go into the mid-80s. it remains hot for sunday. for the festivities in the city of san francisco. monday, into tuesday, we're calling it intense heat around here. 106 inland. around the bay, many communities will go into the low 90s. even along the coast, we could have a few cities getting very close to 80 degrees. we talk about the heat building to the south, it's going to migrate into our neck of the woods on the weekend.
