nation for sentencing brock turner to six months for sexual assault. >> he is due to be released in september. >> vick slee live with the story. >> the judge has been criticized by victims' advocacy groups after sentencing the former stanford swimmer, brock turner. he is running unopposed for reelection but after that, he may have to deal with yet another election. protect survivors, not rapists. the digital bill board was up on the westbound side of the san mateo bridge. a message to drivers that santa clara county superior court judge should be removed from office. the sign put up by a group called ultra violet. they submitted a million signatures to the commission on judicial performance demanding his removal from the bench after he gave former stanford swimmer,

brock turner a six-month sentence that the group considers too lenient. >> we believe that this is not a problem of the law being inadequate. we believe it's a problem of the judge being inadequate. >> reporter: michelle ghallager is fighting the judge on another front, using the ballot box to recall him. >> we're going to collect 70,000 or 80,000 signatures and will submit them probably in june and get it certified. >> reporter: the group has begun raising money for that campaign. they hope there will be generous donors. supporters say removing him takes away a junl's judicial independence. the county public defender believes it was not lenient because turner will have to

father but will remember the fun mes together. there were tense moments at an east bay military base after someone reported seeing an intruder. the base was put on lock down. a building search began at one point, authorities used a drone to search the base. officers from multiple areas responded. >> we responded like it was an active shooter with resources you'd respond with an active shooter and thankfully, we're beginning to slowly unfound this. >> the lock down was lifted five hours later. about 800 army employees and families live at the base. santa cruz residents are accused of molesting a preschool age girl and taking video of it. police say the 27-year-old was a

friend of the girl's family. thursday, the mother found the video and confronted richardson and took the video to a friend's house to call police. police say richl yardson stole the video from the car and drove away. police say he confessed to molesting the little girl. >> traffic returning to normal on the san mateo bridge. you can see cars from our live camera now. hoursing aquo it was a different story. it's not a good day to be stuck in traffic. air quality is worse inland and in the santa clara valley. in the east bay hills, air quality is expected to improve. temperatures are going to get hotter by the weekend.

hundreds of people are watching and waiting and flames draw closer to their homes. what began as two separate fires yesterday have now merged into one big fire called san gabriel complex fire. bars had ha phillips from our sister station as the update. >> reporter: massive flames feasting on bone-dry brush that hasn't burned in decades. >> the sun moves over and heats up, it's making an alignment. and so we're seeing torching going on. >> crews are worried about the wind shifting when the sun goes down. >> flames going up. that is what i'm concerned about. >> pushing flames just feet from homes in duarte.

>> it got down the hill here. it was -- flames were so high. so fierce. >> crews fear the same will happen overnight. >> it's still real dry. and we have winds tonight, changing direction. >> the two fires torched 5400 acres. crews have no containment on this fire and are working to change that with a massive aerial assault and dozens of firefighters on the ground. >> they're working hard and the heat, and it's steep. >> reporter: crews have to hike up through the bottom and those flames are going to take time

orlando nightclub shooting one san francisco supervisor is calling for the city to make a symbolic gesture on the issue of gun control. >> his idea is for the city to get out of investments in the firearms industry. >> it's been talked about before, but san francisco supervisor mark farrell believes now is the time to act. >> congress continues to be incapable of doing anything. i want to make sure we're doing everything possible. >> farrell wants the board that handles the pension fund to dump the investment in gun manufacturers. the city's stake is $1 million

abc news reports airline tickets were purchased a day before the aorlando attacks for mateen, his wife, noor salman and their son for a flight to the bay area next month to visit salman's family in rodeo. it's unclear who bought the tickets. u.s. attorney general was in orlando and says the justice department is trying to determine whether more could have been done to prevent the attacks. >> we're going back and looking at our contacts with him to determine what, if anything we could have done better. >> this attack had been on the cast of
