making news in america this morning, nasty nicknames. the presidential candidates trading barbs about each other and who would be better at handling the economy. dueling speeches today mean the back and forth is set to continue. we're live with the details. wildfires in southern california are raging out of control. hundreds have been forced to leave their homes so far while animals are also in need of rescue. an arsenal of weapons found inside a distinctive-looking truck. who was inside and where did they say they were going? and it was a rough night for the men's u.s. soccer team. one of the world's greatest players lived up to his reputation and defeated the americans in the process.

made it to the halfway mark. good wednesday morning. we'll begin with the speeches in the race for the white house. donald trump, of course, and hillary clinton mincing no words. >> clinton ripped into trump on the economy warning that the country would plunge into a recession under his watch. but trump is poised to deliver a fiery speech of his own today and he got a little bit of a head start slamming clinton for her e-mail controversy and record on trade. good morning, lauren. >> reporter: you know, clinton calls him the king of debt. he calls her lying, crooked hillary and is even launching a website with that url and the candidates are not pulling punches when it comes to attacking each other's economic plans. in the race for president, the gloves are off and the economy is in focus. >> she has a bad temperament, she would do so badly with the economy. >> reporter: donald trump taking on hillary clinton in a sit-down with abc's david muir after she

blasted the presumptive gop nominee for 45 minutes in this ohio speech. calling him dangerous for the economy and taking aim at the billionaire businessman's business acumen. >> just like he shouldn't have his finger on the button, he shouldn't have his hands on our economy. [ cheers and applause ] >> he's written a lot of books about business. they all seem to end at chapter 11. >> reporter: trump responding. >> so what i've done is i've used brilliantly the laws of the country and not personally just corporate and if you look at people like myself that are at the highest levels of business they use many of -- many have done it many, many times. >> reporter: when it comes to campaign finance trump revealed around $3 million in may to clinton's 25.5 million. trump downplaying the significance. >> i'll be honest, i've never raised money before for this because i've never done it before. i think i'd be very good at it. as far as i'm concerned i'd be happy to continue to -- >> reporter: on the trail expect

the next round of this fight. clinton delivers another economic policy speech making the case she's better for handling it while trump is expected to make a speech attacking hillary and bill clinton. diane and kendis. >> the trump speech expected today in new york. abc's lauren lyster in washington, thank you. >> after reports show that the trump camp was lagging clinton by more than $40 million trump sent out his first fund-raising e-mail and he's prompting to match up to $2 million in contribution and as he told david muir there he's willing to fund his own general election campaign like he did in the primaries if necessary. >> now to california where two wildfires in the los angeles area are raging out of control. no structures destroyed so far in the san gabriel valley but offs fear it's just a matter of time. so hundreds of people have been ordered to evacuate. horses are also being evacuated. more than 160 people have been taken to or horses have been taken to fairgrounds in a steady stream of horse trailers.

>> everybody that transports horses has joined forces and is going above and beyond the call of duty to get them out of danger area. >> we are providing them with water so that they're comfortable and sheltered and anyway we can help we will do what we can. >> there are, however, other large wildfires in southern california as well as in nearby states, a brush fire north of phoenix was ignited by a car fire on interstate 17 and residents and campers in a recreational area in utah have been ordered to evacuate. planes had to be evacuated because of near-misses with drones. hurricane force winds uprooted trees and knocked down power lines in new jersey. it tossed around lawn furniture as well and rain and heavy hail joined that storm system and some streets flooded in resort communities and there was a tornado warning, as well when the storm damage occurred. the national weather service will investigate if a twister

touched down in breaking news from florida's gulf coast, the search is under way for a father and his three teenage children. the family was on its way from sarasota on their 29-foot sailboat sunday. they were last heard from off the coast of englewood. during the trip the man called his brother and said it was in six-foot seas. we are learning more about the shooter's movements the night of the orlando massacre. the gunman went to pulse two hours before the killings, left and then came back. investigators think he was checking the club's security. abc news also has learned that the shooter's wife saw him with what looked like a bag of guns before he left home for the last time. the gunman's father says he's been buried somewhere in florida. an indianapolis area toon aunder arrest accuseds of trying to join isis. he was born in the u.s. but the fbi says he was about to travel to new york and then fly on to morocco. officials say he had been expressing support for isis online for several years

including posting a photo of himself in front of an isis flag. he allegedly had also been searching online for information about explosives and potential targets. overnight u.s. officials say north korea fired two powerful midrange ballistic missiles and at least one of those launches failed. strategic command monitoring this in hawaii saying its system detected and tracked the missiles saying one did travel about 250 miles but fell apart shortly after its potential -- short of its potential range of nearly 2,200 miles. now, since this past april, north korea has launched six test missiles, five of them have failed. and millions of americans no doubt are hoping they're holding the winning ticket for the largest megamills jackpot in more that two years. $330 million. >> the winning number, 6, 13, 21, 4950 and the multiplier is 10. we won't keep you hanging. there was no winner at this time. your next chance coming friday

making the video was right behind. police say it actually was that video that allowed them to catch the man driving the first car after seeing the video posted online. they're still searching for the person who shot that video. and for the second time in a week a plane passenger has been arrested after groping a teenager. a flight made an unscheduled stop after a man try the to kiss a 16-year-old girl who was sleeping next to him. and last week this american airlines passenger was accused of groping a 13-year-old traveling alone. he is now charged with sexual assault. the faa issued its first formal rules for commercial drone use. now, starting in august businesses will be able to use drones weighing less than 55 pounds without special permission. but operators will have to keep drones within sight at all times so that means those anticipated delivery services by companies like amazon or google would be prohibited at that time. electric carmaker tesla wants to buy solarcity.

and if you're flying expect airport delays in chicago, detroit, and minneapolis. three people claiming to be on a rescue mission sparked fears of terrorism outside a major new york city tunnel. >> police say when officers stopped their truck, they found loaded firearms and lots of extra ammunition, as well. abc's gio benitez has the details. >> reporter: the arrest taking place during morning rush hour at one of new york city's busiest tunnels. this distinctive truck stopped by police for a cracked windshield but inside an arsenal of weapons found, seven guns including an ar-type semiautomatic rifle and a shotgun, body armor, knives, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, even a military-grade helmet. >> he had the driver exit the vehicle, and when the driver got out, he noticed the 45 caliber handgun on the driver's seat that the driver was sitting on. >> reporter: but early fears of a terror connection gave way to something else. according to police the three people in the truck said there's

a reason for it all. they were on their way to rescue a 16-year-old girl from a new york drug den. it turns out the driver, john cramsey, just lost his 20-year-old daughter to a suspected heroin overdose according to a medical examiner. cramsey who owns a gun range in pennsylvania alluded to his plans to rescue the 16-year-old on facebook telling one of his friends, quote, how about a road trip to new york to do an extraction? saving a 16-year-old girl is priceless. and now cramsey and those two other passengers have been charged with illegal gun possession, and in another bizarre twist police say they found the girl cramsey was looking for. she told them, i don't need to be rescued. police are still investigating. gio benitez, abc news, new york. and just south of san diego a woman has been arrested accused of taking a car from a gas station with two young children inside. the kids' father left them in the car unattended with the engine still running when he went inside to buy an

energy drink. the woman was lurking near the car for a few minutes and then just got in and pulled away as the father tried to chase her down. police caught up with her within minutes. the children were unharmed. a u.s. congressman has been convicted of racketeering fraud as well as money laundering. representative chaka fattah from pennsylvania was at the center of a scheme to pay back an illegal million dollar campaign contribution using federal grants and nonprofit funds. the philadelphia democrat will be sentenced in october. prosecutors have pledged to seek jail time but did not say how much. and out of cleveland where presumably not a lot of work or anything else is going to get done because just about everyone is planning to be at the victory parade to celebrate the cavaliers' nba championship. hundreds of thousands of fans are expected along the parade route and at a rally that will follow the parade as well. and today is the last day of the first round of the european soccer championship, as well. >> yes. but let's call it a copa
